In this sequel to episode 8, the Bo-Hosts continue celebrating the 38th Anniversary of Van Halen's multi-platinum sophomore album, OU812, and make it all about Mikey! Fans know this album is heavily criticized for it's lack of low end, so the Bo-Hosts go beyond the bass to discuss Michael Anthony's soaring, high tenor harmonies! We all know Mikey's vocal contributions were integral to the VH sound, but is OU812 his greatest? Do his harmonies make OU812 a more "summery" listening experience than 5150? Could OU812 be elevated in it's stature with a better track listing? To find out, crack open a Sammy libation of choice and keep the DeLorean's controls set to 1988 and buckle up for an episode so big it needed a sequel!"What is understood...NEED be discussed"Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100085582159917Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thebogusotisshow/?hl=enX:https://x.com/BogusOtisShowYouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@TheBogusOtisShowTik Tok:https://www.tiktok.com/@thebogusotisshowConnect with the Bo-Hosts:bogusotisshow@gmail.com
In this episode, the Bo-Hosts celebrate the 38th Anniversary of Van Halen's multi-platinum sophomore album, OU812. Released on May 24, 1988, OU812 (pronounced "Oh You Ate One Too") debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was the Sammy Hagar-fronted band's second consecutive studio album to hit the top spot. The classic, but equally controversial album (due to it's lack of low-end Michael Anthony), spawned four Top-40 singles, including the smash hit "When It's Love". But after 38 years, the Bo-hosts revisit the album's overlooked cookers, such as "AFU", "Source of Infection" and "Black and Blue", to discuss why they should be re-appraised, their VH rankings and their sonic-siblings!So crack open a Sammy libation of choice, set the DeLorean's controls for the sun-drenched days of 1988 and join the Bo-Hosts for an episode so big it needed to be split in half! EPISODE #125 - One of the most important people in making Van Halen a successful band was engineer/producer Donn Landee. He served as an engineer on the first six VH albums with David Lee Roth and as an engineer/producer on “5150” and “OU812” during the Sammy Hagar years. Landee was also responsible for building Eddie Van Halen's home studio, 5150. The impact he had on Van Halen was immeasurable. Additionally, he worked alongside producer Ted Templeman on other famous acts like the Doobie Brothers, Little Feat, Nicolette Larson and many others. In tribute, the Daves do a deep dive interview with author Greg Renoff who had conducted several interviews with Landee for his books ("Van Halen Rising" and "Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music") and an extensive story for Tape Op magazine. A fun Van Halen News segment and colorful mailbag session completes this May episode.Download the podcast for free on Spreaker, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Google podcasts, Amazon Music, Podvine or iTunes. On the 75th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom & Zeus welcome back special guest, Podcaster, Comic, Musician and Shout It Out Loudcast Hall Of Famer, Izzy Presley to review the 1986 hard rock landscape changing album "5150" from Van Halen. Van Halen was coming off their diamond selling album, 1984, when the band and legendary frontman David Lee Roth split. Van Halen was known of course for their Guitar God founder Eddie Van Halen. His brother, drummer Alex Van Halen and his legendary snare was still there as was underrated bassist Michael Anthony and his incredible backing vocals. So the band recruited the Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar to replace Diamond Dave. Sammy was already a well established rock star who can sing, write songs and even play guitar. 5150 was Van Halen's seventh album and made it to #1 on Billboard album charts and eventually went 6X platinum. This was Van Halen's first number one album. This album was different than the previous DLR albums with a more polished and pop oriented sound that translated into more accessible music. This is the beginning of the so-called Van Hagar era. This was the Patreon pick and as usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. So tune in to find out if "Do you like Van Halen?" On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen, we're diving into the latest developments surrounding a potential new Van Halen album — and why Sammy Hagar is feeling left out. Alex Van Halen is reportedly working on a project built from unreleased jam session recordings he and his brother Eddie Van Halen created at 5150 Studios. The music itself isn't newly recorded — but it would be brand-new to fans. So far, there's no indication that Hagar — or former bassist Michael Anthony — is actively involved in shaping or finishing the material. While some tracks could potentially feature vocals from past sessions, very little is confirmed about the album's direction, timeline, or even whether it will officially be released. Speaking recently on the Rock of Nations podcast, Hagar and Anthony both said they'd gladly participate in any way that could help complete the record — but they haven't been invited. And reading between the lines, it doesn't sound like that invitation is coming. Hagar admitted he's disappointed. He acknowledged that Alex has every right to move forward however he chooses, but made it clear that being excluded from something carrying the Van Halen name stings — especially when key members are still here and willing to contribute. From what's been reported, the project could feature performances from Alex, Eddie, and possibly Wolfgang Van Halen, who has been central to preserving and honoring his father's musical legacy. If vocals are needed, Wolfgang could potentially step in — or the material may remain instrumental. At this point, the biggest question remains: will fans get a fully realized, high-quality Van Halen release — or something that feels unfinished? One thing seems clear: if this album does arrive, it likely won't include new contributions from Sammy Hagar. And that's where the tension lies. "Exclusively Van Halen" is your ultimate destination for all things Van Halen. From deep dives into the band's legendary history to giveaways and gear showcases, we celebrate one of the greatest rock bands of all time — every week.

On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen, we dive into a major development surrounding a possible new Van Halen album — and now Michael Anthony has weighed in. After Alex Van Halen surprised fans by announcing he was working with Steve Lukather on unreleased Van Halen material, speculation has been swirling. Although Lukather initially insisted he'd never “play a guitar note on a VH song,” it was later confirmed the two are indeed collaborating on archival Van Halen demos recorded before Eddie Van Halen passed away. According to Alex, the band had nearly completed an album before Eddie's death. Lukather's role? Helping assemble and finish the material. At one point, Paul Rodgers of Bad Company was even approached to handle vocals — but Rodgers declined, saying he's currently in an “acoustic, zen phase” of life. Now Michael Anthony has shared his perspective — and it's a powerful one. Speaking to WNCX (via Ultimate Classic Rock), Anthony suggested the most fitting tribute would be to finish the project as a fully instrumental record — a pure nod to Eddie's genius. In his view, bringing in a new singer would shift the focus away from what truly matters: the unreleased guitar work Eddie left behind. Anthony believes the spotlight should remain squarely on Eddie's playing — not on launching a new era or reinventing the band. There's still no official release date, but Alex and Lukather are reportedly continuing work on the material. In 2024, Alex released “Unfinished,” the final piece he worked on with his brother — and now fans are waiting to see what comes next. Stay tuned. "Exclusively Van Halen" is your ultimate destination for all things Van Halen. From deep dives into the band's legendary history to giveaways and gear showcases, we celebrate one of the greatest rock bands of all time — every week.
Believe it or not, the Van Halen 5150 album turns 40 at the end of March! To celebrate, the guys are dropping a deluxe version of it on March 27th. According to the press release, The deluxe edition not only contains a remastered version of the album, but also more than 90 minutes of previously unreleased recordings from their August 27th, 1986 concert at the New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New Haven, Connecticut; a selection of rare seven-inch single edits; and extended 12-inch versions. There's also a Blu-ray containing a high-definition upgrade of the video of that show, which was previously released as Live Without a Net, plus promo videos for “Dreams” and “Why Can't This Be Love.” The collection will also be available on vinyl and digitally.Michael was cool enough to hop on to discuss this time period of the band, and lots more. Did he know Sammy Hagar before he joined VH? Did he feel like, at certain times, it was the brothers (Eddie and Alex) vs. him and Sammy? Did he have any input into bringing Sammy in? How do I get a Jack Daniels endorsement? These are the important questions Michael answered, and lots more. You can see him, along with Sammy, when they play Pine Knob on June 19th, a day before his birthday. February looks a little different this year… because we are letting men take the mic.To kick off our February Men's Series, we are joined by actor, producer, veteran and content creator Mike Bless aka Michael Anthony. This conversation dives deep into dating, emotional healing, masculinity and the realities of modern relationships from a male perspective. We talk about how men process heartbreak, the role of honesty in dating, why communication looks different for men, and the idea that many men heal quietly instead of publicly. Mike opens up about accountability, emotional vulnerability, dating expectations and the importance of being honest about intentions early.Of course, we also get into power dynamics in relationships, monogamy vs honesty, the Atlanta dating scene, men wearing purses (yes, we went there), and why giving space in early dating might actually be healthy. This episode kicks off a full month of real conversations with men about love, growth, healing and relationships — and we are listening.Cocktail of the Week: The Leading ManIngredients2 oz bourbon 1 oz blood orange juice ½ oz simple or honey syrup 2 dashes Angostura bitters Orange peel garnishInstructionsAdd bourbon, blood orange juice, syrup and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.Stir for about 20–25 seconds until well chilled.Strain over a large ice cube in a rocks glass.Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink and drop it in.Sip, stare dramatically into the distance, and pretend you're the main character.

EPISODE #121 - Before “Van Halen 3” was released, Loud Dave did an interview with the King - Edward Van Halen in December of 1997. At the time, the band was in the process of pulling “That's Why I Love You” off the album and adding “Josephina.” EVH was hyped on the record, but he still dug into a lot of the past. January 18, 1984 marks a historic moment in Van Halen history, celebrating two major milestones in the band's legendary career. On this day, Van Halen kicked off the “1984” World Tour at the Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum in Florida, launching one of the biggest and most elaborate tours of their career. At the same time, their groundbreaking album 1984—released earlier that month—was already dominating radio and record stores, fueled by massive hits like “Jump.” Why This Date Matters:
On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen on Johnny Beane TV, we break down BIG news from Sammy Hagar as he expands his Best Of All Worlds Tour, promising fans a true “deep dive into the Van Halen years.”
1984 (stylized in Roman numerals as MCMLXXXIV) is the sixth studio album by American rock band Van Halen, released on January 9, 1984.[2] It was the last Van Halen studio album until A Different Kind of Truth (2012) to feature lead singer David Lee Roth, who left the band in 1985 following creative differences. This is the final full-length album to feature all four original members (Van Halen brothers, Roth, and Michael Anthony), although they reunited briefly in 2000 to start work on what would much later become 2012's A Different Kind of Truth.[3] Roth returned in 2007, but Eddie's son Wolfgang replaced Anthony in 2006.[2] 1984 and Van Halen's debut are Van Halen's best-selling albums, each having sold more than 10 million copies in the United States.[4] 1984 was well received by music critics. Rolling Stone ranked the album number 81 on its list of the 100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s. It reached number two on the Billboard 200 and remained there for five weeks, kept off the top spot by Michael Jackson's Thriller, on which guitarist Eddie Van Halen made a guest performance. 1984 produced four singles, including "Jump", Van Halen's only number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100; the top-20 hits "Panama" and "I'll Wait"; and the MTV favorite "Hot for Teacher". The album was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1999, signifying ten million shipped copies in the U.S. 1984 track listing Side one No. Title Length 1. Musical Journey Through the Final Week of December: This Week in Music History As the calendar year draws to a close, the week of December 22nd through December 28th stands as a powerful reminder that music history never sleeps—not even during the holidays. In this captivating episode of “This Week in Music History,” hosts Buzz Knight and Harry Jacobs take listeners on an extraordinary journey through decades of musical milestones, tragic losses, and triumphant achievements that have shaped the soundtrack of our lives. The conversation opens with a poignant reflection on the end of another year of exploring music’s rich tapestry. Buzz muses on how, despite covering similar calendar dates year after year, they continue to uncover new stories and perspectives. “When you think about it, you would think, well, if you do it year after year, you’re going to be talking about the same things,” Buzz observes. “And the truth is, we continue to uncover new and different things.” This sentiment perfectly captures the infinite depth of music history and the endless stories waiting to be told. The Clash’s Revolutionary Voice Falls Silent December 22nd marks the anniversary of one of punk rock’s most devastating losses—the death of Joe Strummer in 2002. Born John Meller, the Clash frontman passed away from pneumonia at a time when his influence on music and culture was still reverberating through generations of artists. The Clash represented more than just a band; they were a political and social force that challenged conventions and inspired countless musicians to use their platform for more than entertainment. Strummer’s legacy as a voice for the disenfranchised and his commitment to authentic, passionate rock and roll continues to inspire artists today. A Candle in the Wind That Lost Its Luster The hosts touch on Elton John’s iconic “Candle in the Wind,” originally written about Marilyn Monroe in 1967. While the song initially resonated as a beautiful tribute, its later reworking for Princess Diana’s funeral created what Buzz describes as “overkill.” The constant repetition following Diana’s tragic death in 1997 caused the song to lose some of its original emotional impact for many listeners. This phenomenon speaks to how even the most beautiful pieces of music can become dulled through overexposure, demonstrating the delicate balance between honoring memory and respecting the power of restraint. Cheap Trick’s Complex Family Dynamics A fascinating deep dive into the internal dynamics of Cheap Trick reveals the complicated nature of band relationships and business structures. Rick Nielsen, the legendary guitar player known for his collection of hundreds of guitars—including his famous five-neck Hamer guitar—represents the performative and creative heart of Cheap Trick. The band’s 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction marked a peak moment, but beneath the surface lay complex tensions. The departure of bassist Bunny Carlos and the subsequent addition of Rick Nielsen’s son, Dax, initially appeared to follow the pattern of other famous rock family transitions, like Michael Anthony’s replacement by Wolfgang Van Halen in Van Halen. However, the reality proved far more nuanced. Buzz’s research uncovered ongoing strife within the band, though Carlos remains part of the Cheap Trick corporation—a business structure similar to Journey’s arrangement with Steve Perry. This setup ensures that founding members maintain ownership stakes even when they’re no longer actively touring, though it can also create lasting tension and legal complications. The hosts explore the darker side of band politics, touching on stories of sabotage and ego clashes. There are tales of Journey band members allegedly pulling on Steve Perry’s microphone cord during performances to make him trip—petty acts of revenge that reveal the intense pressures and personalities at play in successful rock bands. Yet they also note that time can heal wounds, pointing to Perry and Neal Schon’s apparently warm relationship at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, despite whatever conflicts may have existed in their past. The Therapeutic Approach: A New Model for Band Longevity In a refreshing counterpoint to tales of band dysfunction, Buzz shares insights from his conversation with The Head and the Heart on his “Music Saved Me” podcast. This indie pop alternative band has taken an innovative approach to managing interpersonal relationships: group therapy. Band members openly discuss how they’ve used professional counseling to navigate the challenges of creative collaboration, life on the road, and the inevitable conflicts that arise when passionate artists work together for years. This revelation prompts fascinating speculation about how many legendary bands might have avoided breakups, lawsuits, and lasting bitterness if they’d embraced therapy earlier. The deeply personal nature of musical creation—leaving your heart exposed in every performance, every recording—makes these relationships particularly vulnerable to conflict. As Harry notes, “even if it’s a drummer or a bass player, it’s still your piece of that performance of that song you left your heart out there.” The music exists forever as a testament to that vulnerability, creating permanent emotional stakes that can intensify disagreements and hurt feelings. Joe Cocker: A Voice That Couldn’t Be Contained The passing of Joe Cocker at age 70 in 2014 brings reflection on an artist whose expressive, explosive performances made him unforgettable. While 70 might not seem particularly old from our current vantage point—as Buzz and Harry, approaching 60 and 70 respectively, can attest—Cocker’s hard-living lifestyle took its toll. His performances were legendary, inspiring John Belushi’s spot-on “Saturday Night Live” impersonation that Cocker himself found hilarious. Cocker’s career highlights include his cover of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends,” which became the theme for the television series “The Wonder Years,” and “Up Where We Belong,” his duet with Jennifer Warnes from the film “An Officer and a Gentleman.” The latter song became inextricably linked with that powerful film starring Richard Gere and Lou Gossett Jr., whose portrayal of a drill instructor was genuinely frightening and contributed to one of cinema’s most memorable moments—Gere’s character’s desperate declaration: “I got nowhere else to go.” Eddie Vedder: The Humble Superstar December 23rd celebrates the birthday of Eddie Vedder, born in 1964, whose appreciation for musical history and those who came before him sets him apart in an industry often dominated by ego. The hosts draw parallels to Dave Grohl, noting how both artists exhibit genuine humility and respect for their influences. Vedder’s collaborations with Neil Young, particularly their version of “Rockin’ in the Free World,” helped establish his credibility beyond Pearl Jam circles, while his passionate renditions of The Who’s classics—especially “Love, Reign o’er Me”—have become legendary in their own right. Vedder’s versatility shines through in his cover work, from The Waiting by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to The English Beat’s “Save It for Later,” featured in the television series “The Bear.” His interpretation of Tom Petty’s “Room at the Top” particularly resonates, described as “so beautiful” in its delicate handling of Petty’s original composition. The discussion of “The Bear” opens a tangent about the show’s exceptional soundtrack curation, featuring all Tom Petty covers including a barn-burning version of “Runnin’ Down the Dream” by Larkin Poe. Despite Pearl Jam’s reputation for deep cuts and extensive catalogs—which might intimidate casual fans—the hosts acknowledge being captivated whenever they hear Vedder sing anything. His voice and interpretive skills transcend the barrier of familiarity, making even unknown material compelling. The Unsung Guitar Legends of Country Music The conversation shifts to Glen Campbell, whose passing on December 24th prompts reflection on his extraordinary but often underappreciated guitar skills. Campbell represents a generation of country musicians whose technical prowess gets overshadowed by genre stereotypes. Like Roy Clark, Campbell could do virtually anything on guitar, yet many people don’t associate country music with virtuoso instrumentalists. Campbell’s session work tells the story of his versatility—he played on albums by The Monkees, The Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, and soundtracks for Elvis films and Phil Spector productions. This breadth demonstrates how the Nashville studio system produced some of the most skilled musicians in any genre, even if they didn’t always receive recognition outside country music circles. The discussion of Campbell also touches on Brian Wilson’s 1964 breakdown, a tragic moment that had long-lasting consequences for the Beach Boys and Wilson himself. The psychological damage inflicted by Wilson’s abusive father Murry Wilson—compared to Joe Jackson’s treatment of his children—demonstrates how family trauma can derail even the most talented artists. Brian’s struggles with touring and performing were just the beginning of severe mental health challenges that would plague him throughout his career. The Police: Reunion Done Right In 2007, The Police earned recognition as the year’s highest-grossing tour, thirty years after the band’s inception and 24-25 years after their previous collaboration. The reunion tour, which Buzz witnessed in Las Vegas, comprised over 150 shows worldwide and generated nearly $400 million—not a bad payday for a comeback. This success demonstrated the enduring appeal of Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland’s unique blend of rock, reggae, and new wave, proving that some artistic chemistry remains potent even after decades apart.Support the show: https://takinawalk.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Just when you thought you knew the Matrix, Michael Anthony Alberta joins me to discuss his book, Encrypted Reality: Interpreting History's Patterns. What if history was not a linear timeline but a complex forgery filled with edits and distortions? And this narrative was created by a covert intelligence network that used the printing press and cryptographic systems to spread fabricated accounts and maintain control over knowledge. The network manipulated psychology, tapping into the bicameral mind—where early humans followed commands perceived as divine. Let's follow the patterns of a single polymathic operative, the architect behind this design, who influenced empires across continents and fields.
