In this Bible Study we we look at the final of the offerings in the opening chapters of Leviticus, the Guilt or Restitution offering. This offering is unique to the others in that it requires restitution be made to the offended party and an additional penalty be paid for the sin (whatever it was). This has application for us today, as we ask the Lord if there are wrongs we have done in our past that we need to make right.Outline:02:03 - reading of Leviticus 5.14-6.705:20 - Lev 5.15 - “Guilt Offering” (NIV). In this Bible study, we focus on Revelation 3.14-22. This is a message from Jesus to the church of Laodicea. Laodicea was one of seven churches in Asia Minor (modern-day western Turkey) to which Jesus had the Apostle John write a letter. The church in Laodicea thought they were rich and successful, when in God's eyes, they were weak and spiritually useless. Laodicea was judging itself on the world's standard, not God's. Leviticus 05.1-13 Bible Study - Sin Offering (Part 2)In this Bible study, we look at the 2nd half of the Sin Offering as outlined in Leviticus 5.1-13. The Israelites were required to perform a “sin offering” if they failed to do something that was required, such as failing to give a testimony, dealing properly with ritual uncleanness, or fulfilling an oath. We also look at the “sin offering” as the “purification offering” asking why a woman who just gave birth would be required to give a “sin offering?” A key verse in this passage is Leviticus 5.5 in which the text tells us that confession is key to the process. OUTLINE:01:45 - What is Iron Sheep Ministries? 07:04 - Outline of the talk: 5.1-6 Failure to do something that was required: - v1 - Failure to give testimony, which could prevent justice from being carried out. - v2-3 - Failure to deal properly with ritual uncleanness, which could lead to the Lord's tabernacle being defiled.- v4 - Failure to fulfill an oath, which would result in the Lord's name being profaned. In any of the above. ONCE they realized their guilt there were two things they had to do.- v5 - Confess their sin- v6 - bring an offering to the Tabernacle so the priest could make atonement for them.5.7-13 - Three possible offerings, adjusted according to the economic situation of the person bringing the offering. EVERYONE has the opportunity to make a sacrifice, no matter how poor they were. 08:42 - Leviticus 5.1-1312:02 - Lev 5.1 - public charge to testify - it was considered a sin to see something and not say something. 14:25 - Lev 5.2-3 - “ceremonially unclean” - we see unclean as being related to public health or hygiene. A better way to think of a ceremony unclean vs clean is adequately prepared for worship.Rev 7.141 John 1.722:45 - purification offeringWORD STUDY: Ḥaṭṭā'āṯ חַטָּאָת (hea-taw-aw) - “sin, sin offering, purification from sins of ceremonial uncleanness.”Occurs 294x in KJV, 82x in Lev, 32x in Lev 4-5:13Lev 5.2-3Lev 12.1-8Luke 2.22-2430:29 - Lev 5.4 OathsMat 5.33-3732:50 - Lev 5.5 - confess - 35:55 - why is confession important? When you realize your guilt, the very first step, you must go through is to confess your sin before the Lord. He already knows what you did! But if you refuse to acknowledge your sin, then there is no room for the Holy Spirit to work in you. The Lord's discipline is a good thing. The sin offering (also known as the purification offering) is covered in Leviticus chapter 4 as well as the first thirteen verses of chapter 5. In this study, we will look at the first portion, as outlined in Leviticus chapter 4. The sin offering was an offering required when an individual (or group) had sinned unintentionally. The offering atoned for the sin and cleansed them from unrighteousness. What is the application for this for us today? In this Bible study, we unpack Leviticus chapter three and the Fellowship Offering (also known as the peace offering). The Fellowship Offering was designed to be a thanksgiving offering made in friendship and peace with the Lord. The offering was a cow, goat or sheep (male or female) shared between; God, the priests, and the offerer. While we no longer need to sacrifice animals to say thanks to God there is a lesson to be learned here.Outline: 01:24 - “Fellowship Offering” word study - šelem, שֶׁלֶם - “Peace offering, requital, sacrifice for alliance or friendship. voluntary sacrifice of thanks.” “Shalom” - The root of this word is the same that is used for Shalom. First use, Exo 20.24. Lev 23.15-2104:00 - Leviticus 3 reading06:57 - Lev 3.1-6, “herd” Lev 3.6-16 “flock.” Herd = cows, bulls. Flock = sheep or goats. Notice that V7-11 specifies a lamb (within the flock category) and V12-16 is goats (within the flock category).08.12 - Lev 3.1, 6 - “Male or female” - unique to the offerings this far - could offer a female animal for the fellowship offering.08:35 - Lev 3.1, 6 - “without defect” - similar to Lev 1:3&10 - burnt offering. Lev 22.21-25 - the animal could be deformed or stunted.10:30 - Lev 3.2, 8, 13 - “lay your hand on the head of the offering.” Same as Lev 1.2,8,13. This is your animal, you own it, you are sacrificing it, you are giving it up, you are taking ownership of the sacrifice. Rather then atonement for your sins, you are doing it in thanksgiving and honor to God. “I know you will provide, I want to share this with you”12:00 - Lev 3.2, 8, 13 - “Splash the blood against the sides of the altar” Same as Lev 1.5,11,15. Lev 17.14 - the life of a creature is its blood. The blood on the Altar was yet another reminder that a valuable animal gave up its life. This is important. This is sacred14:07 - Lev 3.7-11 - lamb and V12-16 Goat within the same family. Compare: 7-12,8-13,9-14. The only real difference v9 - the entire fat tail of the lamb - sheep in Malawi 15:44 - Sheep versus goats in Malawi. Sheep have tails and look like dogs.17:39 - A pleasing aroma to the Lord18:20 - Lev 3.17 - A lasting ordinance for generations to come - you must not eat any fat or any blood? Wycliffe's Bible was done by hand. It is a word-for-word translation of the Latin Vulgate. Wycliffe was heavily criticized by the Church of Rome as well as the Church of England because he taught that salvation was only available through the suffering of Christ, not through the power of the church. Wycliffe was called “The Morning Star of the Reformation.” In 1415, John Wycliffe was condemned as a heretic and in 1428 (44 years after Wycliffe's death) the Bishop of England ordered Wycliffe's remains exhumed and burned and the ashes thrown into the river.22:31 - Gutenberg Bible (1455) 1450 - Johann Gutenberg invented the Gutenberg press23:18 - The Protestant Reformation. In this lecture, Bible teacher Dave Bigler (founder of Iron Sheep Ministries) does a basic overview of the history of our New Testament text. From the spreading of the early Gospel by word of mouth, the writing down of our New Testament text on papyrus to the formation of the New Testament Canon of scripture. All this and more is covered in this one hour lecture.Outline:01:38 - What are the top arguments against the validity of the Bible?03:06 - We live in a culture of doubt. 03:49 - Overview of part 1 and part 2 of this lecture series. 04:44 - Knowledge is our greatest strength amidst a culture of doubt.Jude 10; Rom 12.2; Prov 15.14; Prov 23.12; Prov 1:7Own your knowledge, if you don't know, find out. God, through the Holy Spirit, inspired the original human author who put pen to paper (quill to papyrus). THAT original also known as the “autograph,” THAT was without error. We do not have any of the original “autographs.” We have copies, that is where Textual criticism comes in. But let me be clear from the start; in all my research, all my schooling, all my studies; as much as I can be sure of anything, I am sure that this is God's perfect word for us today. In this Bible Study, we go verse by verse through Leviticus chapter 2. We unpack the multiple types of prepared Grain offerings instructed by God for the Israelites to make. We also take a deep look at Leaven / Yeast in the Bible as well as why salt was always to be included in the grain offering. Finally, as always, we conclude with an application of this text for our lives today. Join us as we dig deep into scripture!Outline: 03:28 - Background explanation05:25 - “Grain Offering” - Hebrew word study - Minḥâ מִנְחָה (gift), (offering) - it is a gift to the Lord.Gen 32-33 - we see Jacob reunited with his brother Esau Gen 43.11 - gifts for Joseph in Egypt. Same word. 07:03 - A portion was burned on the altar - the rest went to the priest for their food. 1 Cor 9.13-14, Deut 25.410:14 - support the work of Iron Sheep Ministries - Mail your gift to 4300 Route 50, Suite 105, Saratoga Springs NY 12866Or give online at -www.ironsheep.org/donate11:38 - Grain Offerings were often offered with other sacrifices Lev 9.4“grain offering” occurs 93x in NIV - 29x Lev, 44x Num. (21x Num 28-29). Those two chapters summarize offerings to be made daily, weekly, monthly, and at annual festivals (Passover, Day of Atonement, Festival of Weeks, etc). 13:08 - 5 different types of grain offerings in Lev 2Lev 2.1-3 - 1 - uncooked - includes incense (niv) - KJV, AMP, CSB, ESV - “Frankincense”13:57 - What is Frankincense? It is a dried resin from the Boswellia tree (native to the Sinai peninsula). It is a key ingredient in incense. Used throughout the ancient Near East as part of burnt sacrifices. Mat 2.11 it was a gift brought from the Magi, which symbolized Jesus' future sacrifice he would become on the altar for our atonement of sin.15:47 - Lev 2.4 - 2 baked in an oven - thin or thick loaves Lev 2.5-6 - 3 cooked on a griddleLev 2.7 - 4 cooked in a pan16:14 - Lev 2.11-12- no yeast (leaven) or honey? 16:46 - Topical look at Yeast (leaven) in the Bible. “Yeast” occurs 57 times in the NIV; 10 in the New Testament and 47 in the Old Testament. In OT yeast is always literal and related to cooking in bread.Gen 19.3 - Lot makes bread without yeastExo 12-13 - God's instructions on the Passover meal. They had no time to let the yeast rise. Deu 16:3.Lev 7.13 & Lev 23.17 - both are instances of bread made with yeast. In the New Testament, yeast is always figurative, sometimes good and sometimes bad.Matt 13.33, & Luke 13.20-21, yeast represents the Kingdom of HeavenMatt 16.5-12; (Mrk 8.14-21) yeast represents sin, specifically hypocrisy (Luke 12.1)Gal 5.9 - yeast is false teaching 1 Cor 5.6-7 - yeast is sin, malice & wickedness28:02 - Lev 2.13 - what is the “salt of the covenant of your God” Salt is a preservative and a flavor enhancer. Salt was added to all the offerings as a reminder that the offerings were a preservative of the covenant. Salt is also a picture of how we are to be as Christians. Read Matthew 5.13, where Jesus calls us to be the Salt of the Earth.31:15 - Lev 2.14-16 - Firstfruits - What are first fruits? 1 Cor 15.19-2134:17 - Conclusion and Application. 1 Thes 5.16-18; John 6.29-35. In this study, Bible teacher Dave Bigler (Iron Sheep Ministries), covers Leviticus 1.2-17. This includes a close look at the Burnt Offering, what it was, how it was performed, and why. Interesting subjects covered are the foundation for the term “scapegoat” as well as “holocaust.” Outline:01:33 - Leviticus 1.1-903:02 - Historical, cultural context of the text, who is the author and who is the audience?05:36 - What is a burnt offering?Gen 4.4 - Abel's offering MAY have been a burnt offering - not sureGen 8.18-21 - Noah and his family come out of the ark onto dry land, “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.”Gen 22.2, “Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” - God provided a ram.Ex 10.24-29, Moses pleads with Pharaoh to let the Israelites go into the wilderness “to make burnt offerings to the Lord.” 12:06 - A Malawian perspective on owning a goat. Hear from Pastor Edwin Thera in Malawi Africa on the value of a goat to a person living in a rural African village. 14:51 - Lev 1.3 - A male without defect. The goat was to be without fault. Mal 1.6-14 has harsh words from God for those trying to cheat God.16:40 - Jesus is our perfect sacrifice.1 Pet 1.18-19 tells us that Jesus is a lamb without blemish of defect.2 Cor 5.21 tells us that Jesus had no sin and was sacrificed for us. 18:07 - Lev 1.4 - “Lay Your Hand on its head; an atonement for you”19:09 - where does the term scapegoat come from?Leviticus Chapter 16 is all about the Day of Atonement, aka Yom Kippur. The high priest makes sacrifices for the nation of Israel; 1 Bull, 2 goats, and a ram. The bull is offered for Aaron's own family & household. One goat is sacrificed as a sin offering (Lev 4) and the ram is sacrificed as a burnt offering. The second goat had all the sins of the people put on it and sent into the wilderness. Jesus is our scapegoat! Read Isa 53.6, Rev. 13.8 and Heb 10.10.22:00 - Lev 1.5 - “Splash the blood against the sides of the altar.” Lev 17.14 - the life of a creature is its blood22:40 - Lev 1.9 - “burn all of it on the altar” - a burnt offering was fully consumed by the fire. None of it was saved, or used for food by the priests, it was 100% a sacrifice to the Lord 23:01 - Where does the term Holocaust come from? It is a Greek word “sacrifice by fire” - an offering completely burned by fire. The word was appropriately chosen to describe the mass murder of +6mil Jewish people under the Nazi regime in Europe from 1941-45. Before that, it was another term for the Israelite burnt offering, the holocaust offering.23:42 - Jesus is our burnt offering, he was fully consumed, and he gave up everything for us. His entire life, from beginning to end. Read John 10.14-1824:23 - what is the protoevangelium?25:43 - Lev 1.9 - An aroma pleasing to the Lord. Read Ephesians 5:228:10 - Lev 1.10-13 - “From the flock”29:30 - Lev 1.14-17 - From the birds33:43 - Conclusions and application
In this first in our series going verse by verse through the book of Leviticus, we look at the historical and cultural context of the book of Leviticus. We ask, who was the author, who was the original intended audience and what was the significance of the text to them? Then we ask how this text applies to us today. Ultimately, we ask why should we even study such a strange text that seems so irrelevant for us today. We dig into all this and more in this introduction to the book of Leviticus. Outline: 02:12 - Introduction - The Book of Leviticus is about holiness - being set apart Be Holy for I am holy” - Lev 11.44; 11.45; 19.2; 20.7; 20.26; 21.8. 04:16 - Background of Leviticus Author: The Holy Spirit - Leviticus contains more direct speech by God than any other book of the Bible. This is a recording provided by Adirondack Christian Fellowship of Dave's guest teaching on Psalm 102. Given at ACF on Sunday September 15th, 2024. Theme: Bring your Burdens This is one of the Penitential Psalms, which is a psalm in which the author shows a penitent heart, they confess their brokenness, their sin, and their need for God's forgiveness. Psalms 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143 are all categorized as penitent psalms. Psalm 51 as you may recall is King David's lament after being caught in his sin with Bathsheba & Uriah the hitite. This is also a Messianic psalm, and I will show you why. There are three segments to this psalm: Vv 1-11 - Personal Lament Vv 12-22 - Future hope Vv 23-28 - Eternal God Psalm 102.1-11 What do you think this writer is going through? What is his distress? Terminal cancer - June of 2023 - Steve Beck. Glioblastoma Depression. Psalm 42.3 says, “My tears have been my food day and night” The Sorrow of Unrepentant, un delt-with Sin. Psalm 102.12-22 Future hope What a turn in the text. We go from a lament in total pain and anguish to a Parise., “You Lord sit enthroned forever, your renown endures through all generations.” CONTEXT Whenever we study the Bible we must always ask about the context; WHO wrote this, WHO did they write it to? WHEN was it written? WHERE was it written from and where was it written to? Once we know these things we will be better informed to ask the Holy Spirt WHAT we are supposed to do with this information and HOW we can apply it to our lives. What is ZION? 2 Sam 5.7; Psalm 2:6; 48:2, 11-12 & 132:13; Jer 31.6; Isa 40.9; Jer 31.12; Zec 9.13 Psalm 102:13,16,21 In the midst of this poets personal lament of anguish to the Lord he calls out and says, “I am going through this pain, but you rule soverough over all, our beloved Jerusalem has fallen, and its people in Exile, but you are in charge and you will see it rebuilt, both its walls and its people.” V18, “Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.” The nation of Israel is proof of God's existence No other people group in the world's history has been whipped out, destroyed, and come back. A language gone extinct and then come back. The Israelites are God's people and a study of the prophecies in the Bible in conjunction with world history is the closest actual proof we can have of God's existence. Moving on… Psalm 102.23-28 - Eternal God V23-24 - a return to a personal lament - “he broke my strength, he cut short my days.” and a plee - “do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days.” A personal cry out followed by an acknowledgment of who God is, he is the eternal creator that will go on forever. This world is going to end, but you are not. We see here a prophetic message of what the future holds for our earth. Isa 34:4 Mat 24:35 2Pe 3:7-10 How is this a Messianic Psalm? Heb1.10-12 Heb 1.1-2; Heb 13.8 Concluding Psalm 102 Psalm 55.22 - “Cast your burden on the Lord and he shall sustain you.” --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ironsheep/support
In this final Bible Study in Exodus, we see the Tabernacle erected, anointed, and consecrated. We then see the Glory of the Lord fill the Tabernacle (the Lord has come to abide with his people as promised in Ex 6.6-8). We take a deep dive into“the cloud” and the “Glory of the Lord” seeing how both play out throughout scripture. As we wrap up the book of Exodus we see God's ever-present narrative, woven throughout the Bible, of a loving God reuniting his creation to himself. Outline: 00:57 - Overview of Exodus 40 02:15 - Exodus 40.1-33 - the setting up of all the elements of the Tabernacle along with their anointing and consecration. 06:25 - Exodus 40.2 - “First day of the first month” - v17 adds “the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month in the 2nd year.” From this, we learn that they are entering the 2nd year of their desert time. Ex 12.2 is the description of Passover. Ex 12.10 we learn that it was to take place on the 10th day of the 1st month. (So they would be celebrating Passover 9 days after consecrating the Tabernacle. We also learn from Ex 19.1 that it took less than 6 months to build and put together all the elements of the Tabernacle. 08:21 - Exodus 40.9-16 - Anoint and consecrate the Tabernacle. “Aniont” occurs 10x in Exodus (5x in Ex 40). Māšaḥ (maw-shakh') מָשַׁח. “To smear, spread liquid, to consecrate.” Ex 30.22-33 gives us the recipe for the anointing oil. “Consecrate” occurs 16x in Exodus (4x in Ex 40). qāḏaš (Kaw-Dash) קָדַשׁ. “To consecrate, sanctify, prepare, dedicate, to be set apart.” 10:07 - Exodus 40.16 - “As the Lord Commanded” - 8x in Ex 40, and 10x in Ex 39 10:50 - Exodus 33 - The Tabernacle is fully set up. “And so Moses finished the work.” v33 12:59 - Exodus 40.34-38, the Glory of the Lord fills the Tabernacle 13:45 - “The cloud” - 49x in 44 verses. Occurs 11 times in Exodus and 14 times in Num as the text documents Israel's wanderings in the desert. The pillar of cloud was a guide for Israel. Another awesome instance of the Cloud of God can be found in the New Testament, the transfiguration. Matt 17, Mark 9, and Luke 9 document the story of Jesus, Peter, James, and John on a mountaintop. Jesus is praying and he is transformed into pure light before them, then they see Moses and Elijah standing with him. Then a cloud comes and covers all of them and Luke 9.35 tells us that “a voice came from the cloud saying, ‘this is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.'” 17:57 - The “Glory of the Lord” in the Bible. It occurs 36 times in the NIV; 6 in Exodus; In 1 Kings ch 6-8 and 2 Chronicles ch 3-7. Ezekiel 8-11 is the retelling of a vision that Ezekiel had that was a warning for the Israelites in exile in Babylon; it tells of the Glory of the Lord leaving the temple due to Israel's idolatry. Eze 8.1, 4, 6; 9.3, 9; 10.4, 18-19; 11.23; 43.1-5. We see the Glory of the Lord return to earth in Luke 2.8-11 as well as in John 1.1, 14. No longer is the Glory in the temple, it is in Christ, walking amongst us! 31:49 - Final point. The Tabernacle and Temple were where God dwelt with his people. Where does he dwell today? Ex 6.6-8, Ex 40.34, 2 Chr 7.1-3, 1 Cor 3.16 and 6.19. 35:37 - conclusion. Looking at Ephesians 4.29-5.2 Dave asks the question "what does it mean to grieve the Holy Spirit?" In what way do our actions bring sorrow, distress and/or sadness to our Lord? Dave uses the illustration of three children who are bickering and arguing over trivial, inconsequential things while unbeknownst to them they are surrounded by God's amazing beauty and provision. We are the same. Dave also digs deep into the question of the forgiveness that God calls for us to have for one another. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of? Do you need to forgive someone who does not deserve your forgiveness or has not earned it? Have you earned (or do you deserve) God's forgiveness? In the same way that God forgave you (in Christ Jesus), you two ought to show forgiveness to others. Dave Bigler (founder Iron Sheep Ministries) was asked to guest preach, on behalf of Renew Prayer Network https://www.renewalprayer.net, at Grace Chapel in Clifton Park, New York on Sunday, September 1st. In this teaching, Dave goes through Ephesians 4.29-5.2 covering the following text: "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." In this study, we see God reiterate the importance of keeping the Sabbath. We see the Israelites volunteer the materials needed to build the Tabernacle, all provided by God (as foretold in Genesis). And we see all the skilled workers called forward, including Bezalel and Oholiab. This brings us into our final segment of the book of Exodus, as we see the Tabernacle built and blessed by God. Outline: 00:31 - Review and outline 01:49 - Exodus 35.1-3 Sabbath Regulations reviewed. Verses: Ex 16.23; Gen 2.3; Ex 20.8-11; Ex 31:12-18; Ex 35.1-3 Important NT passages regarding the Sabbath: Mrk 2.27; Col 2.16; Rom 14.5-6; Gal 2.15-16 12:27 - Exodus 35.4-9 - A call to bring the elements. A repeat of Ex 25.1-7 - A command given by the Lord for the people to give. Question: Where did this wealth come from? Where did Israel get the gold, silver, bronze, yarn, fine linen and animal skins? From the Egyptians: Gen 15.13-14; Ex 11.1-3; Ex 12.35; Psa 105.37 16:51 - Exodus 35.10-29 - A call for skilled workers This is a listing of all the elements that were explained in Ex 25-30. 19:51 - What is a wave offering? Verse 22: All items were brought as a WAVE offering. We are not 100% sure exactly what a wave offering was, other than that it was clearly something that was lifted and presented to the Lord as an offering to the Lord. The term is seen 21x in Ex, Lv, and Num. (5x Ex, 10x Lev, 6x Num). 20:54 - What was a “freewill offering?” - First mention at Ex 35.29, Deut 12.5-7; Psa 54.6; Lev ch 22 & 23; 2 Cor 9.7. 25:42 - Exodus 35:30-36.2 Bezalel, Oholiab & every skilled worker, a repeat of Ex 31.1-6 28:54 - Exodus 36:3-7 - God Provides. The builders of the Tabernacle had so much that they had to tell people to stop giving. This was an abundance out of God's provision (foretold in Gen 15.13-14, told of in Ex 11.1-3 and seen in Ex 12.35). As Psa 105.37, “God brought Israel out of Egypt laden w/ Silver and Gold.” APPLICATION: Phil 4.19; Matt 6.19-34 34:12 - Recap & closing thoughts Support Iron Sheep Ministries: https://Ironsheep.org/donate Listen to the podcast: https://anchor.fm/ironsheep Contact Dave & the ISM team: info@ironsheep.org Be notified of each new teaching, join the email list: http://eepurl.com/g-2zAD --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ironsheep/support
In this Bible study, we wrap up our three-part series looking at Israel's fall into Idolatry in Exodus 32 followed by a look at Moses' relationship with the Lord. God tested Moses by offering to create a new nation through him (Ex 32.10), but Moses selflessly pleaded with the Lord and offered himself as an atonement for their sin (Ex 32.31-32). In Exodus 33 and 34 we see a back-and-forth conversation between God and Moses which ends with God's renewing of the covenant promises started in Exodus 19. We also see an amazing declaration of God's name and his character in Ex 34:6-7 which Dave spends a good deal of time discussing in this Bible study. Outline: 01:28 - Recap 05:16 - Exodus 34.1-4 07:44 - Exodus 34.5-7 - God's Glory and His name. This is a declaration that is foundational to all Jewish and Christian theology. Moses repeats these words in Numbers 14 (at Kadesh-Barna). Num 14.18; Neh 9.9-21; Jona 4.1-4, Psa 86.15; Psa 103.6-18; Rom 2.1-6; 2 Pet 3.9; Rom 3.23; 1 Jhn 4.9-10; Rom 10.9-10; Rev 3.20 27:40 - Generational Sin 29:46 - Exodus 34.8-9 - Moses pleads again for his people 30:29 - Exodus 34.10-11 - God renews his covenant. 32:31 - Exodus 34.12-28 - God reminds them of specific (important) details of the covenant. 45:25 - Fasting - Moses fasted 40 days and 40 nights without bread or water. Matt 6 Study on Matthew 6 (Fasting): https://youtu.be/mqqtXApiPVs?si=e1ZjMxKlhZi4-Tzd&t=1874 47:18 - Exodus 34.29-35 - Moses radiates the glory and love of the Lord. Mat 17.1-13; Psa 34.5; 2 Cor 3.7-18 Wiersbe said it well, “when a child of God, looks into the Word of God and sees the Son of God, he (or she) is transformed by the Spirit of God into the image of God for the glory of God.” God renewed his promise and showed Moses a glimpse of His Glory. God forgave the sins of the nation and Moses returned to the people with the stone tablets. This is a longer then usual study which covers some major topics including God's book of Life, the wrath and judgment of God and how both point to Christ. We also talk about Moses being tested by God, about Israel falling back on their old ways of idolatry, and about Anthropopathism (what the heck is that)??? In this Bible Study, we look at Exodus 29 and the consecration process of the Hebrew High Priest, Aaron (and his sons). We look at the different elements of the ordination process. The study includes a look at what a sin offering is, as well as a burnt offering and a wave offering. Ultimately we see the point of not only the high priest, the Tabernacle, the book of Exodus, and the entire Bible is God's clear desire, (and provision) to dwell with His people. Outline: 06:00 - introduction 01:26 - Elements of the consecration process found in Exodus 29 and Leviticus 8 The priests were washed (Ex 29.4 & Lev 8.6) The priests were clothed (Ex 29.5-6,8-9. 29-30 & Lev 8.7-9, 13) The priests were anointed (Ex 29.7, 21 & Lev 8.10-12, 30) The priests were forgiven (Ex 29.10-14) The priests were completely dedicated to God (Ex 29.15-18 & Lev 8.18-21) The priests were marked by the blood (Ex 29.19-22 & Lev 8.22-24) The priests were fed (Ex 29.22-28, 31-34 & Lev 8.25-29) The priests charged to minister daily (Ex 29.38-46) 02:58 - Consecration: Blue letter Bible: Millu מִלֻּא. What does the Bible say about Slavery? This week we look at Exodus 21:1-11 which holds the ordinances for the Israelites on how to deal with their Hebrew slaves (Jews that were slaves within the Jewish camp). To better understand what the Bible has to say on the subject we additionally look at Leviticus 25:39-43 and Deuteronomy 15:12-18. The Bible does not institute nor condone slavery, it was a common practice of all people groups in Moses' day as well as in Jesus' day. In this study, we look at what Jesus has to say to us in how we treat one another and how we ought to serve Him, as a bondslave, a slave by choice. The Bible is not a political book, it tells God's people how they ought to interact with each other and with Him. That call is clear, regardless of our station in life, we are to put God first in everything and lift up everyone around us higher than ourselves. Slave or free we are to work for everyone as working for the Lord, and lift others above ourselves.
