Discipleship. It's a fundamental, core, calling of God in Scripture. What does it mean? Let's go back to God's creating the heavens and the earth, and all living things for a starting point. God created human beings unique among all of his creatures. Human beings were created in the image of God. What does this mean? Foundationally, it means we were made for a relationship with God! To love God as God loves us. And we were created to grow in our relationship with our Creator. I guess you can call it a growth in discipleship - knowing God, loving God, living in a good relationship with God.

An exposition of 1 Timothy 1:15–17 in which Paul sets forth the gospel he was entrusted to proclaim, grounding it in his own conversion as the chief of sinners. The sermon traces how Paul's personal experience of mercy is not incidental but paradigmatic — a pattern of longsuffering grace intended to instruct and assure all who will believe on Christ for everlasting life. Main points: - the faithful saying: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners - Paul's testimony as the chief of sinners who obtained mercy - the doxology: the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God Scripture references: - 1 Timothy 1:1-20

Pastor Bobby Schuller teaches on the concept of sacraments and sacramental acts, exploring three powerful ways believers experience the true presence of God: Scripture, worship, and Holy Communion. VISION + VALUES VISION: As You Go, God Through You.MATTHEW 28:17–20 ISV When they saw him, they worshipped him, though some had doubts. Then Jesus approached them and told them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, as you go, disciple people in all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I've commanded you. And remember, I am with you each and every day until the end of the age.”AS YOU GO: The movement of the believer. The Mission Happens in Everyday Life. Your daily path is your divine assignment.Disciples Are Sent, Not Stationary. The gospel travels at the speed of a willing life.Obedience Begins With the Next Step. God reveals the road to those who take the step.GOD THROUGH YOU: The Authority and Presence of JesusThe Mission Flows From His Authority. The power of the mission is not in the messenger, but in the King who sent him.His Presence Is Our Confidence. When Jesus is with you, you are never outmatched by your assignment. We Are Vessels, Not the Source. God doesn't look for perfect or gifted people, He looks for available ones.As you go in everyday obedience, God moves through your life to reach people, reveal His presence, and release His power.VALUES: How we live out the vision and missionPRESENCE: We host God's glory in every moment.PRAYER: We move at the speed of His voice.PROCLAMATION: We boldly make Jesus known.PEOPLE: We build authentic community.POWER: We expect God to Move.OUR UNIQUE EXPRESSIONWhy sometimes our church feels too much for one person and not enough for another.AVL City Church is the bridge between Word and Spirit. This is by design.John 4:23-24 NASB But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. We live in a world where some people are all about the Word of God: Scripture, doctrine, order, theology, clarity. Or what we can call the head. And some people are all about the Spirit of God: power, passion, presence, encounters, movement. Or what we can call the heart. Both are essential. Both are biblical. Both are life-giving.But here's the challenge: how to get both at the same time and in the same space. Some feel fed by teaching but overwhelmed by Spirit. Some are ignited by Spirit but confused by teaching. And that's where we live. That's our tension. That's our calling. One person may say: “This is too spiritual.”Another may say: “This is not spiritual enough.”Both are seeing truth, just from different lenses. Our role is to hold the balance without compromising either. So what does that mean practically? Our expression, the way we worship, teach, pray, and lead, is intentionally designed to:1. Honor Scripture: because truth matters. The Word is our foundation.2. Honor the Spirit: because God is alive and moving today. Presence matters. This is the tension God calls us to hold: it can feel uncomfortable, but it is necessary.Jesus says the Father seeks “true worshipers” — fully alive, fully informed, fully surrendered. So if it sometimes feels too much or not enough, remember: that's the bridge we're building. That's our expression. That's the tension we've chosen because we're pursuing the fullness of God in a way that honors both His Word and His Spirit. We want to reawaken the hunger. We want to ask “Did heaven move?” not “Was it good?”People will keep returning where God is not only explained but also experienced. We bring our plan and also our surrender. We build the Altar and wait for the FireWhen we embrace it together, when we hold it in faith and unity, we become the church God intended, a place that disciples, empowers, and moves in both revelation and power.Jesus invites us to activity “Come and See” and “As you go, Make Disciples”.

Send a textWhat if safety isn't the absence of storms but the presence you stand within? We dive into Psalm 91 to explore assurance that holds when life breaks, trading superstition for a sturdy practice of dwelling with God. Rather than running to a dusty spiritual first aid kit, we talk about making the secret place your daily address—so when crisis hits, you're already home.Through this podcast we unpack why biblical protection means presence, not immunity, and how the language of refuge and fortress reorients fear. We trace how believers have leaned on Psalm 91 during seasons of plague and upheaval, and why that history helps us read it with both realism and hope. You'll hear practical rhythms for living near to God—Scripture habits, worship that steadies attention, short and honest prayers—that build resilience before the wind rises. We connect the dots to Philippians' joy in hardship, Job's trust amid loss, and John's clear-eyed love for Jesus, showing how the wider witness of Scripture reinforces a life anchored in Christ. We also share a personal story from Cyclone Tracy's aftermath to illustrate how people respond differently to the same storm and why proximity to God shapes recovery. The through-line is simple and strong: you are going through the valley, not setting up camp there. Hidden with Christ, held by his hand, and sealed by the Spirit, you can face arrows by day and terrors by night without surrendering your peace. If this conversation steadies you, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs courage, and leave a review to help others find it. Highlights Life is a sacred gift intentionally created by God Scripture calls believers to actively choose life over death Every person is made in the image of God and has inherent value Our words have the power to influence life or destruction Biblical truth affirms life from the womb to the grave God’s design for humanity does not change with culture Christians are called to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves Do you want to listen ad-free? Full Transcript Below: Why Life Is Sacred By Lynette Kittle Bible Reading: “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” - Deuteronomy 30:19 Why are so many people choosing death over life these days? If asked, many individuals might disagree, not realizing what they are doing. Still, when we consider our culture’s views on the sacredness of life, we see the reality that individuals are choosing abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, suicide, and more. Because death is a popular choice for so many people, it’s more important than ever for us to speak out and help lead others to choose life over death. As Christians, we recognize that those who reject Jesus are choosing death, rather than receiving the life God gives us. A Day Set to Choose Life Every January since January 22, 1984, many Christians observe Sanctity of Life Day, a day set aside to commemorate God’s priceless and sacred gift of life. The United States' 40th President, Ronald Reagan, first issued the national proclamation setting aside a day to honor life and remember the millions of lives ended through abortion. It’s a day to remember those who can’t speak for themselves, committing to pray for and protect their life at every age and stage. Proverbs 31:8 urges us to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” Like Deuteronomy 30:19 urges, we, who are believers in Jesus Christ, are daily called to choose life over death, to believe that life is sacred. So, how do we put this into action daily? By choosing life through the words we speak, write, and communicate about it to ourselves, friends, family, community, and the world at large. Speaking Influential Words As Proverbs 18:21 reminds us, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Whether we realize it or not, the words we choose to speak and write influence those who hear and read our words. Because they do, it’s vitally important, a matter of life and death, that we celebrate and support life for those around us. Choosing God’s Truth God describes the very beginning of humankind, of their sacredness of being made in His image, as Genesis 1:27 describes, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” Christians who replace biblical truth with other ideologies are choosing creator-less options, calling God a liar, along with removing the need for a Savior and devaluing life. But as believers in Jesus Christ, we are called to embrace and cherish the sacredness of life, of the truth of being formed in the image of our amazing Creator, who breathed His breath of life into us. There should be no doubt in our hearts and minds about who created us, the One who formed us with His own hands and has called us priceless in His sight. As Genesis 2:7 explains, God is very clear about where humans began and by whose hand. “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” Sanctity of Life Remains Nothing changes God’s truth about life and the sacredness of it, despite the world’s efforts to promote abortion, assisted suicide, and selecting and euthanizing those who have physical and mental issues and disabilities, various illnesses, and the elderly. God’s plan for each individual is life, as Psalm 139:16 describes: “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.” Men and women, from the womb to the grave, are God’s glorious, sacred creations. As Psalm 8:4-6 describes, “What is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that You care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of Your hands; You put everything under their feet.” Intersecting Faith & Life: How are we speaking about life? Are we sharing with others the sacredness of it? Send us a textThe Healing SelfThe Redeemed Self | Part 4Senior Pastor Keith StewartOctober 12, 2025In last week's message, we saw how each of us is marked by the image of God that bestows on us a value, worth and dignity that should be denied us by no one. This Sunday, we're going to see how God rescues us from the discard pile of life to make something truly beautiful out of each of us. This message is all about stepping into the freedom of knowing we are loved by God. You don't want to miss this message.________Discussion Questions 1. Where do you notice “masquerade” in your life (outside-in pressure to perform) versus “metamorphosis” (inside-out renewal)? What would cooperating with transformation look like this week? 2. Which part of the redemption arc most encourages you today—bought, brought out, or set free—and why? 3. How has your current image of God (especially His goodness) been shaped by past wounds, and how might meditating on Jesus begin to reshape it? 4. “You move toward what you focus on.” What have you been fixating on lately, and what three signs of God's goodness can you name from the past few days? 5. What is one practical step this week to cooperate with metamorphosis (e.g., Scripture meditation on Jesus, reframing a lie about God, or a concrete act of obedience)? 6. Jesus said those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be “filled.” What practical step could increase your hunger for God—Scripture meditation, silence, confession, or an act of obedience—and how will you start?

In the spiritual journey of every believer, the sustenance provided by God's Word is both essential and transformative. Matthew 4:4 emphasizes not just the importance but the necessity of living by "every word that comes from the mouth of God." This scripture is pivotal in understanding the dynamic nature of how God communicates with us, distinguishing between 'logos,' often seen as the general Word of God, and 'rhema,' which signifies a specific, timely word meant for a particular situation. Our springboard for today's discussion is: "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." - Matthew 4:4, NIVThe distinction between logos and rhema can significantly impact how we perceive and respond to God's guidance. Logos refers to the broader, enduring word of God—Scripture as a whole—that educates, corrects, and builds us up in faith. Rhema, however, serves as a direct, often spontaneous revelation, tailored to guide us through immediate circumstances or decisions. While both are equally true and essential, rhema acts as the immediate application of logos to our daily lives, providing specific direction and encouragement when we need it most.Understanding this distinction can prevent confusion and provide clarity in decision-making. For example, the Bible teaches both about waiting on God's timing and taking bold steps of faith. A rhema word will clarify which of these principles applies in a given moment, guiding us precisely when and how to act.Steps That You Can Take:* Immerse Yourself in the Word (Logos):* Regularly engage in Bible study to understand the depth and breadth of Scripture.* Use a daily reading plan to systematically absorb the logos, enhancing your ability to discern God's voice.* Cultivate Sensitivity to Rhema:* During prayer and meditation, pay attention to any scripture or biblical principle that stands out or resonates deeply with your current situation.* Journal these insights to track how they align with your life events, fostering a habit of listening for God's timely word.* Seek Confirmation and Counsel:* When you believe you've received a rhema word, seek confirmation through further prayer, continued reading of Scripture, and counsel from mature Christians.* This triangulation helps ensure that the direction you perceive as divinely inspired aligns with God's character and the totality of Scripture. Conclusion: Living on every word from God means actively engaging with both logos and rhema. It requires a commitment to study, a heart open to receiving direct communication, and a community that supports and confirms your understanding. As believers, our spiritual nourishment comes not just from the static reading of God's Word but from our dynamic interaction with it through the Holy Spirit.A Question of the Day: How can you better position yourself to receive and recognize the rhema words God has for you in your current life situations?Let's Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word, which lights my path and feeds my soul. Help me to not only study Your logos but also be attentive to the rhema You speak into my daily life. Teach me to recognize and respond to Your voice with obedience and faith. Equip me to live by every word that proceeds from Your mouth, trusting that Your guidance is perfect and timely. In Jesus' Name, Amen.Thank you for joining today's session of "The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast." Remember, God's voice is not just to be heard but to be followed. Today Daily Devotional

Like a bird that flees its nest is anyone who flees from home. — Proverbs 27:8 For several years, birds have built nests on or near our home. One year we watched robins hatch on the ledge outside our kitchen window. The mother robin could see us through the glass, and at first she was wary of every move we made. But she grew used to our presence, and we could watch how she tended her young. The nest, for them, was a safe place, warm and protected from predators until the chicks were ready to fly. In a similar way, we need churches and families to serve as spiritual homes, protecting us and providing for our needs so that we can be prepared to face the world God has given us to live and work in. Unfortunately, we sometimes try to go our own way before we are ready. We make foolish choices in friendships, and we may get into trouble with the law. We rush intimacy and find ourselves in a romantic relationship before we are ready. We imagine that we are spiritually mature, not needing Christian community, but then we find (too late) that we are unprepared for moral challenges that the world can throw at us. Home is a place to cultivate the habits that bring us close to God: Scripture reading, prayer, mutual accountability, and confession of sin. We all need the protection and provision of Christ. Let's not take for granted the gift of a spiritual home. Savior God, you long to gather your children as a hen gathers her young under her wings (Luke 13:34). Guide us to value your care and the gift of a spiritual home. Amen.

God Shows Up In Our Stories, Especially at Christmas: Danica McKellar & Matt Rawle

Whether you've been a Christian your whole life because you were raised in the faith, or you're just curious about what Christianity is all about, there are many ways we can come to know God, sometimes when we're not even looking for Him. In the Bible, the prophet Isaiah tells us in Romans 10:20 that “[God] is found by those who did not seek [Him], [He] became manifest to those who did not ask for [Him].” As we all enjoy our favorite stories of Christmas this year, and as Christians celebrate the birth of Christ, everyone can pause and reflect on the ways God might show up in our lives and look forward to new ways we might uncover His goodness in the coming year as well.  Actress Danica McKellar always felt a tug at her heart that there was something out there she hadn't quite uncovered yet. Not long ago, when her friend and fellow actress Candace Cameron Bure sent her a Bible, the switch flipped and she came to the realization that it had been God tugging at her heart all along. Now, she's embarked on a new-found journey of faith and is eagerly anticipating this Christmas season with a new lease on life. Author and pastor Matt Rawle loves digging deep into our culture to find traces of God in places we'd least expect. He's uncovered themes in beloved Christmas classics like The Grinch and has found joy and a new understanding of God and the way He presents Himself in the world.   Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Always Jesus Listens Past interview: Mark Lowry Upcoming interview: Harris Faulkner Romans 10:20 NIV   Danica McKellar  Candace Cameron Bure The Wonder Years Christmas at the Drive-In Great American Family Channel Carlos Whittaker   Matt Rawle Duke Divinity School How The Grinch Stole Christmas United Methodist Church Asbury United Methodist Church John the Baptist Advent Christmas The Nutcracker www.mattrawle.com The Heart That Grew Three Sizes The Redemption of Scrooge The Gift of the Nutcracker Jesus Revealed Interview Quotes: “Jesus is something that I wanted my whole life, or had my whole life and just didn't realize it.” - Danica Mckellar “Of utmost importance is not the religion, it's the relationship. And that is precious to me. And it's a journey of discovery.” - Danica McKellar “I can let go and let God. I can find that peace that surpasses understanding, because I know it doesn't matter what's going on in this world now that I have this connection to True Peace." - Danica McKellar "You know that childhood joy when you see how excited they are for Christmas? This year there's a whole new layer for me. It's the actual meaning behind the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ." - Danica McKellar “We don't always use culture beneficially, but culture in and of itself certainly isn't bad, but it can, I think, powerfully communicate to us who God is." - Matt Rawle “If we believe The Incarnation [of God in the form of Jesus] to be true, then culture is a vehicle through which we can discern God…Scripture says that God created all things through Christ and God was pleased to reconcile all things through Christ. Therefore, there is a hint of God in everything.” - Matt Rawle “Jesus taught using pop cultural references of the time. Of course, we're 2,000 years removed from that, so they don't seem to be so popular in terms of pop culture today. But in Jesus's time, they absolutely were.” - Matt Rawle “Christmas in particular is a great time to explore that intersection between culture and our shared lives together in spreading the gospel.” - Matt Rawle ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel!
