The sacred Harams (S1) The sacred haram had an effect even on the noble prophets (a.s): When the messenger ﷺ reached Hudaybeeyah to perform the umrah, his camel stopped. “She has been made to stop by The One Who caused the elephant to stop! The haram (I.e. Makkah) is heavy upon her, and heavy upon me”. The noble prophet and ancient grandfather of our messenger ﷺ, Ismaaeel (a.s) once complained to Allah ﷻ about the heat of Makkah. Allah ﷻ revealed: “I will open a door of paradise in your grave, which will blow cool air onto you until Qiyamah”. Ibn Abaas رضي الله عنه: “Whoever bears the heat of Makkah for 1 hour, Allah ﷻ keeps him away from the hellfire the distance of 70 autumns”. Makkah being a desert is a mercy: were it to be a beautiful oasis, people would travel ignorantly for reasons other than pilgrimage! Our beloved messenger ﷺ in the auspicious Makkan days would align the Kabah to masjid al aqsa, the original Kiblah. He would do this by standing between the Yemeni corner and the black stone! Ismaaeel (a.s) and his beloved mother (r.a) are buried in the al-Hijr. (Hateem area near the Kabah).

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh!Today is the 27th of Rajab, a date that is significant in the Islamic history. It is the date that Rasulullah went on a miraculous journey called al-Isra' wal Mi'raj. To commemorate that, today's post will be free for all.Welcome to Day 27 of the BeQuranic 2025 Challenge! Today, we reflect on ayah 27 of Surah Al-Mulk. But before we begin, let's take a moment to acknowledge the date: 27th of Rajab. This is the day traditionally believed to mark the miraculous journey of Isra' wal Mi'raj—a powerful reminder of prayer as our direct connection to Allah.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. The miraculous journey of Isra' wal Mi'raj came at a critical moment in Rasulullah ﷺ's life, during the Year of Sorrow (Aam al-Huzn). He had recently lost two of his strongest pillars of support:• Sayyidatuna Khadijah (RA): His beloved wife, confidante, and the first believer in his mission. She was the emotional bedrock of his life and da'wah.• Abu Talib: His uncle, protector, and shield against the Quraysh's physical harm and assassination attempts. The Prophet ﷺ faced mounting hostility in Mecca, rejection in Ta'if, and what seemed like a roadblock in his mission. At this juncture, Allah provided spiritual solace through this miraculous journey. The Gift of Salah: A Timeless ConnectionAmong the most significant outcomes of Mi'raj was the direct gift of Salah—five daily prayers—given by Allah without the mediation of Jibreel. Unlike other obligations that came through revelation on earth, Salah was delivered during this divine meeting, emphasizing its centrality in our faith.Salah as a SolutionRasulullah ﷺ faced external challenges—opposition, rejection, and grief—yet Allah provided him with an internal solution. Instead of armies or material aid, Allah gave him a direct means of communication: prayer.• Salah is our daily mi'raj, a spiritual ascent that allows us to connect directly with Allah, no matter where we are or what we face.• It teaches us that when life becomes overwhelming, the first step is to turn inward, strengthen our connection with Allah, and seek His guidance through prayer. The AyahAllah says:فَلَمَّا رَأَوۡهُ زُلۡفَةٗ سِيٓـَٔتۡ وُجُوهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَقِيلَ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ“But when they see it approaching, the faces of the disbelievers will turn gloomy, and it will be said, ‘This is what you used to call for!'”Context and MeaningThis ayah concludes the conversation between the Quraysh and Rasulullah ﷺ, where they mockingly questioned the Day of Judgment:“When is this promise (of Qiyamah), if you are truthful?”Allah responds by describing the scene when Qiyamah is finally upon them:1. “When they see it approaching…”• The disbelievers will see the terrifying signs of Qiyamah drawing near.2. “…the faces of the disbelievers will turn gloomy.”• Their mockery and arrogance will be replaced with dread and despair.3. “…and it will be said: ‘This is what you used to call for!'”• They will be reminded of their own mockery, but at that moment, belief or regret will have no value.Lessons from the Ayah1. Faith Before It's Too Late• Allah gave us intellect, hearing, and sight to reflect on His signs and embrace faith before we see Jahannam with our eyes.• Waiting until death or the Day of Judgment to believe is too late.2. Life Is a Test of Trust• The test isn't in seeing and believing but in trusting Allah's guidance and preparing for the unseen reality.3. Mockery Reveals Arrogance• The Quraysh mocked the Prophet ﷺ, but their arrogance blinded them from the truth.• In life, dismissing reminders or belittling the deen often stems from the same arrogance.Connecting to Isra' wal Mi'rajThe 27th of Rajab reminds us of the gift of Salah—a direct line to Allah. What's fascinating is that at a time when Rasulullah ﷺ faced immense external challenges (the Year of Sorrow), Allah gave him a spiritual tool rather than an immediate worldly solution.• Prayer is Our Mi'raj: Salah elevates us spiritually, just as the Mi'raj elevated Rasulullah ﷺ.• Internal Solutions for External Problems: Fixing our internal connection with Allah strengthens us to face life's challenges.Practical Takeaways1. Evaluate Your Salah• Are you praying all five daily prayers? If not, make this your priority.• If you're praying, focus on praying on time and improving your khushu' (concentration).2. Turn to Allah Immediately• Don't delay repentance or self-improvement. If you struggle with a sin or weakness, start addressing it today.3. Strengthen Relationships• Life is short. If there's friction with family or loved ones, mend those relationships before it's too late.Final ThoughtThis ayah is a stark reminder: Don't wait until Qiyamah to believe or change. The time to act is now.As we reflect on the lessons from Isra' wal Mi'raj, let's remember the incredible gift of Salah and ensure it's central in our lives. Pray, reflect, and improve.Jazakum Allahu Khairan for joining me today. See you tomorrow, inshaAllah! Wassalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. This is a public episode. Today, we dive into ayah 25 of Surah Al-Mulk, continuing this incredible journey of reflection, tajweed, and connection with Allah's words. Let's get started!BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. After all the proofs and reminders—Allah's creation, His control over provision, and the promise of resurrection—they push back with skepticism:“When will this Day of Judgment happen, if what you're saying is true?”Let's unpack this further:1. The Quraysh's DoubtsThe Quraysh already believed in Allah as the Creator, but their struggle was with the concept of accountability. They couldn't accept the idea that there would be a Day of Reckoning where they would answer for their actions. For them, life was about power, wealth, and control. The idea of resurrection threatened their dominance, so instead of reflecting, they ridiculed.2. The Deeper Problem—ArroganceThis wasn't just a question of curiosity. It was arrogance. They mocked the idea of Qiyamah, not because they were seeking the truth, but because they were trying to dismiss it.This reminds us: Denial of the truth often stems from arrogance, not ignorance.

Today is Thursday the 12th of Muharram, 1446 Hijrah. Yesterday I read a very disturbing news coming from Oman that a masjid in Oman was being bombed and took the lives of nine people. Apparently according to the news report, Daesh or IS claimed responsibility for the bombing and the masjid is said to belong to a Shia community in Oman and they were observing the mourning of the day of Ashura when the bombing happened. Now this is very sad because this is against the teaching of Islam. We need to look beyond sectarian divisions within the Islamic Ummah. Rasul salallahu alayhi wa sallam said,من صلى صلاتنا واستقبل قبلتنا وأكل ذبيحتنا فذلك المسلم“Those who pray our prayers and face our Qibla and eat from our slaughter, that is a Muslim that is under the protection of Allah and under the protection of Rasul salallahu alayhi wa sallam.”So this barbaric act of killing innocent lives, taking innocent lives just because of sectarian differences is haram. This is a great sin.Now are Shia Muslims? The answer according to this hadith is absolutely clear. Yes they are Muslims. We differ in certain things with them. I'm a Sunni, I'm a Shafi'i Sunni in terms of my theology. I grew up and learning Sunni creed from the Ash'ari school of Aqeedah, Shafi'i school of law and Ghazali school of Tasawwuf.Yet it doesn't mean that I would call our Shi'i brothers and sisters Kafir. We disagree. I disagree strongly with many of their teachings, with the way they view the Sahaba but that doesn't make them Kafir. That doesn't exclude them from the fold of Islam. Rasul salallahu alayhi wa sallam gave us this clear criteria. They pray like we pray. Look at the way our Shia brothers and sisters pray. Yes there may be some minor differences and those minor differences fall within Fiqh differences but by and large it's the same prayers and they face the same Qibla. It's not like they face some other places. It's not like they face Karbala in prayers. They face Masjid al-Haram. They face the Kaaba like you and I, like the rest of the Ummah and they eat from our slaughter. That makes them a Muslim. That makes them fall under the protection of Allah and the protection of Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam.IS you did this. You're going to answer before Allah and Rasul salallahu alayhi wa sallam in Yawm al-Qiyamah. So we have to rise beyond these petty differences. We can disagree but there are matters bigger concern, matters of bigger concerns to the Ummah that we will need to unite. For instance the matter of Palestine. The matter of Palestine we are one Ummah and we see realistically in the world today politically the only countries that are taking real actions beyond words, beyond rhetoric are the Shi'i countries. We see what the Houthi in Yemen are doing and the impact they have on the economy of Israel. Now just because they do that doesn't mean that we condone, we acknowledge their teachings as the correct teaching. We can defer yet they are still Muslims. We can strongly disagree yet they are still Muslims. We believe that they are Muslims but their teachings in some matters within Islam is wrong. We can sit down and discuss academically with regards to this matter but it should never lead to bloodshed. It should never lead to death.May Allah have mercy upon those who were killed at this Masjid in Oman. My condolences to the people of Oman. Oman is a peaceful country. People of Oman are beautiful souls, very peaceful, peace loving people. May Allah protect all of you and Allah bless Oman and her people. May Allah shower mercy upon those souls that have departed and may Allah destroy IS, may Allah destroy Daesh. Get full access to Be Quranic at bequranic.substack.com/subscribe
Living The Legacy: Explaining The Day of Qiyamah to our Children Ustadha Maseeha Saloojee by Radio Islam
How to navigate through the slew of projections on the future of Israel, Jewish and Christian speculative eschatology, and the definitive Islamic indicators on the signs of Qiyamah relating to Bayt al-Maqdis.
At-Takwīr (Arabic: التكوير, literally "The Turning Into a Sphere") is the eighty-first chapter (sura) of the Qur'an, with 29 verses (ayat). It tells about signs of the coming of the day of judgement. Some of these signs include the following: (a) When the sun is covered in darkness (solar eclipse), (b) When the stars fall, (c) And when the mountains vanish (blown away), (d) When the camels big with young are abandoned. (e) And when the wild beasts are herded together (f) And when the seas rise, (g) And when the souls are sorted, (h) And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked, (i) For what crime she was killed? (j) And when the books [records of deeds] are open, (k) And when the sky is torn away, (l) And when Hell is set ablaze, (m) And when Paradise draws near, (n) Then every Soul shall know what it has done. Summary 1-14 The terrible signs of the judgment-day 15-25 Oaths that the Quran is the word of Allah, and that Muhammad is neither a madman nor deluded by the devil 26-29 The Quran an admonition to all men [1] Hadith Whoever wants to see the Qiyamah with his/her eyes should read the verses of at-Takwir, al-Infitar and al-Inshiqaq.” [2][3] Imam Ahmad recorded from Ibn Umar that Muhammad said: “Whoever wishes to look at the Day of Resurrection, as if he is seeing it with this eye, then let him recite: ‘When the sun Kuwwirat'(At-Takwir) and ‘When the heaven is cleft sunder (Al-Infitar) and ‘When the heaven is split asunder.(Al-Inshiqaq)'”[4][5][6] It was narrated that Umar ibn Horayth said: "I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) reciting: 'When the sun is wound round.' in fajr. (at-Takwir (81:1)) "[7] Sahabah reported[8] that Muhammad used to recite surahs An-Naba (78) and Al-Mursalat (77) in one rak'ah, and surahs Ad-Dukhan (44) and At-Takwir (81) in one rak'ah.[9][10]
An-Nāziʻāt (النازعات, "Those Who Pull Out", in reference to "the angels who tear out the souls of the wicked") is the seventy-ninth sura of the Qur'an, with 46 ayat. Its name derived from the word wan-nazi‘at with which it opens. The root (n-z-‘) roughly means "to yank out with great force",[2] although it can also mean "to yearn for" or "to yearn after" Summary 1-3 Oaths by the angels of death that there will be a resurrection and judgment-day 4 The preceding narration about the angels tasked in the following verse of 5.[4] The angels with various roles and missions perform their tasks by descending from the sky.[4] Muhammad ibn al-Uthaymeen said the tasks which angels done cannot be done by normal humans.[4] 5 The angels has roles that each of them assigned with certain tasks, such as Israfil, blowing horn of Qiyamah,[5][Notes 1] and Michael, who has been tasked to manage the dews, rains and growing plants, and Maalik, who are tasked to guard the hell while punishing the sinners.[8] 6-7 Oaths by the messengers of death that there will be a resurrection and judgment-day 8-14 Infidels shall be restored to life notwithstanding their unbelief 15-26 The story of Moses and his mission to Pharaoh 27-33 The Creator can raise the dead 34-41 The righteous and the wicked in judgment, their various condition 42-46 No one knows the time of judgment, but whenever it comes it will be soon for the infidels [9]
Al-Jinn[1] (Arabic: الجن, “The Jinn”) is the 72nd chapter (sūrah) of the Quran with 28 verses (āyāt). The name as well as the topic of this chapter is jinn. Similar to angels, the jinn are beings invisible to the naked human eye. In the Quran, it is stated in that humans are created from the earth and jinn from smokeless fire. Summary 1-2 Certain of the genii converted to Islam by hearing the Quran [4][5]3-7 The folly of men and genii in ascribing offspring to God8-9 Genii prying into heavenly secrets are driven away with fiery darts10-14 Different classes of genii, some Muslims and others infidels15-18 Believing genii rewarded in Paradise, the unbelievers punished in hell19 The genii pressed upon Muhammad to hear the Quran20-24 Muhammad can only publish what hath been revealed to him25-26 The judgments of God shall overtake the unbelievers27-28 God revealeth his secrets to his apostles only Exegesis 2 Jinn recant their belief in false gods[edit] In the second verse the jinn recant their belief in false gods and venerate Muhammad for his monotheism. The jinn apologize for their past blasphemy and criticize mankind for either neglecting them or encouraging their disbelief. 7 Islamic Judgement Day, Qiyamah The Judgement in verse 7, and the punishment in verse 25, are both references to the Islamic Judgement Day, Qiyamah. 20-22 Monotheism among the Jinn is reaffirmed Verses 20-22 are especially important as Monotheism (tawhid) among the Jinn is reaffirmed and the inescapable wrath of God is emphasized. 25-28 Qiyamah is known only to God Verses 25-28 establish that Qiyamah is known only to God, and that God takes into account all the deeds of a man when judging him.
