Supreme Court will hear challenge to Colorado conversion therapy banAxios, By Avery Lotz, on Mar 10, 2025https://www.axios.com/2025/03/10/supreme-court-conversion-therapy-challengeIn Colorado, a legal challenge is underway against a state ban on gender conversion therapy for minors. The case centers on Christian counselor Kaylee Charles, who argues that the state's prohibition of conversion therapy infringes on her free speech rights. The law, House Bill 19-1129, which came into effect in 2019, was designed to protect minors from potentially harmful practices that aim to change an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity. The case raises the question of whether this ban is a form of forced religious indoctrination or a necessary measure to protect vulnerable children.AJ and Infidel 64 discussed the issue, with AJ expressing the view that conversion therapy is not about free speech, as counselors are free to discuss various topics but should not force clients to conform to specific beliefs. Infidel emphasized the harm caused by conversion therapy, likening it to other forms of medical malpractice. Both agreed that such therapy is rooted in religious ideologies, and it's crucial to consider the potential harm to children, particularly when families pressure minors into undergoing conversion therapy.AJ highlighted that conversion therapy is banned in some states but remains legal in others, underscoring the need for broader protections. Infidel and AJ both pointed out that conversion therapy is primarily associated with religious organizations and driven by conservative ideologies that often reject the validity of LGBTQ+ identities. Infidel further criticized the conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court, expressing concern that their stance on issues like same-sex marriage and LGBTQ+ rights could jeopardize the progress made in protecting these communities.Infidel concluded by emphasizing the scientific consensus against conversion therapy, which has been shown to harm LGBTQ+ youth and increase mental health risks, including suicide. Both agreed that conversion therapy should be banned and that the focus should be on supporting LGBTQ+ individuals' identities to promote their well-being.The Non-Prophets, Episode 24.12.1 featuring Jimmy Jr., AJ, and Infidel64.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN BY BRINGING BACK THE CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE OF EARLY AMERICA: GEORGE WHITEFIELD
WE WILL BE SPENDING MOST OF 2025 ON THE DOCTRINE OF ORIGINAL SIN NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF ITS IMPORTANCE VERTICALLY SPEAKING, THAT IS SALVATION, BUT ALSO HORIZONTALLY SPEAKING, THAT IS THE MORAL WELL BEING OF AMERICA, AND THUS THE PRESERVANCE OF AMERICA. ORIGINAL SIN IS INEXTRICABLY TIED,NOT ONLY OUR PERSONAL SALVATION, BUT THE PRESERVATION OF AMERICA,BEING THE LAND OF HAPPINESS AND FREEDOM, AND NOT GOING THE WAY OF ROME. JONATHON EDWARD'S TREATISE ENTITLED ‘THE GREAT CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE OF ORIGINAL SIN DEFENDED' WAS WRITTEN TO COUNTER DR. TAYLOR'S WORK DENYING THE INNATENESS OF ORIGINAL SIN. JONATHON EDWARDS WRITINGS ARE ABOVE MANY OF OUR HEADS AND THUS HARD TO UNDERSTAND, BUT IT IS GOOD FOR US AMERICANS TO ATTEMPT TO LISTEN ABOVE OUR HEADS THAT WE MIGHT GROW. WE MUST PUSH OURSELVES TO UNDERSTAND THE DIFFICULT THAT WHEN WE RETREAT BACK WHAT USED TO BE HARD IS NOW EASY. SO LET PUSH OURSELVES TO LISTEN TO PICK UP AN IDEA OR SO IN EACH MESSAGE EVEN IF MUCH OF IT WAS OVER OUR HEADS, THAT IS HOW WE GROW. JONATHON EDWARDS WRITES MICROSCOPICALLY AND THUS WE HAVE TO DO THE TELESCOPIC ON OUR OWN. THE FOLLOWING IS WHAT IS BEING READ AT THE END OF THIS MESSAGE. TO SHOW HOW DEEP JONATHON EDWARDS IS, ATTEMPT TO READ IT AND SEE IF YOU CAN SEE HOW IT APPLIES TO ORIGINAL SIN, HOW ORIGINAL SIN, WARPS OUR REASONING AND THUS OUR TEMPORAL NEEDS OVERRIDE OUR ETERNAL NEEDS. THIS WILL GIVE YOU AN IDEA HOW CAREFULLY YOU MUST LISTEN IN ORDER TO GET AN UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT HE IS PROVING. These things are often mentioned in Scripture as Evi|dences of extreme Folly and Stupidity, wherein Men act as great Enemies to themselves, as tho' they loved their own Ruin; And how can these things be accounted for, but by supposing a most WRETCHED Depravity of Na|ture? Why otherwise should not Men be as wise for themselves in spiritual and eternal Things…If any should say, 'Tis true, if Men gave full Credit to what they are told concerning eternal Things, and these appeared to 'em as real and certain Things, it would be an Evidence of a sort of Madness in them, that they shew no greater Regard to 'em in Practice: But there is Rea|son to think, this is not the Case; the Things of another World, being unseen things, appear to Men as things of a very doubtful Nature, In ANSWER, I would observe, agreeable to what has been cited from Mr. Locke, Though eternal things were considered in their bare Possibility, if Men acted rationally, they would infinitely outweigh all temporal Things in their Influence on their Hearts. And I would also ob|serve, that the supposing eternal Things not to be fully believed, at least by them who enjoy the Light of the Gospel, does not weaken, but rather strengthen the Argu|ment for the Depravity of Nature. For the eternal World being what God had chiefly in View in the Cre|ation of Men, and the Things of this World being made to be wholly subordinate to the other, Man's State here being only a State of Probation, Preparation & Progression, with respect to the future State, and so eternal Things being in Effect Men's All, their whole Concern: to un|derstand and know which, it chiefly was, that they had Un|derstandingdescriptionPAGE 62given 'em; and it concerning them infinitely more to know the Truth of eternal Things than any other, as all that are not Infidels will own; Therefore, we may undoubtedly conclude, that if Men have not Respect to 'em as real and certain Things, it cannot be for Want of sufficient Evidence of their Truth, to induce 'em so to regard them; especially as to them that live under that Light, which God has appointed as the most proper Ex|hibition of the Nature and Evidence of these Things: But it must be from a dreadful Stupidity of Mind, oc|casioning a sottish Insensibility of their Truth and Im|portance, when manifested by the clearest Evidence.

This past Friday Kash Patel was sworn in as the director of the FBI. In a trend that has picked up steam, Director Patel took his oath of office not on the Bible, but on the Bhagavad Gita, a Hindu scripture. While we're big fans of Kash Patel cleaning house of the corruption that the FBI has come to embody, what exactly does it say for the future of our still majority Christian nation when our representatives and office holders pledge their allegiance to these United States under the witness of demon gods? Can a house divided stand? Now to be clear, the Constitution states in Article 6 that “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” And unfortunately, the founders, for the most part, literally meant that. Thomas Jefferson, for example, celebrated an amendment in a bill to protect all religions in Virginia that explicitly removed the name of Jesus Christ and wrote that the legislators were intent on protecting “the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and Infidel of every denomination” from any type of discrimination. Expanded religious freedoms like this at the state level prior to ratification of the Constitution in 1788 paved the way for the vague, secular language of our constitution that we know today. So what do we do with this? Perhaps at the time, coming out of intense religious persecution, insistence on complete religious freedom was necessary to stave off the unholy union of church authority wielding the power of the state. But today, with religious pluralism and the decline of the West, what was perhaps once necessary to protect against overzealousness, is now a roadblock. Kash delightedly declared at CPAC that the American Dream is for everyone. But is it? Does the prosperity and opportunities of America belong to the world with all her various cultures and religions? Or should America be for Americans and for unapologetic exaltation of the supremacy of the Christ and the Christian Faith? This episode is brought to you by our premier sponsors, Armored Republic and Reece Fund, as well as our Patreon members and donors. French prosecutors demand 20-year sentence for ex-husband in Pelicot mass rape case France24, By NEWS WIRES, on 25/11/2024https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20241125-court-moves-to-sentencing-in-french-mass-rape-trialThe case of Dominique Piqueux, currently on trial in France, has horrified the public with its sheer magnitude and depravity. Over a decade, Piqueux allegedly sedated his wife, Gisèle, enabling other men—whom he recruited online—to rape her while he documented the abuse through photos and videos. A total of 72 men reportedly responded to his invitations, with 50 facing trial alongside him. Gisèle bravely refused a closed trial, earning applause and support for shedding light on the widespread, systematic abuse. This trial has sparked a critical dialogue in France, particularly about the diverse profiles of the accused and whether they reflect broader societal tendencies. While some attribute abusive behavior to childhood trauma and psychological predispositions, others caution against using such explanations as justifications. The defense strategies employed—ranging from denial to claims of consent through the husband—highlight the disturbing complexity and persistent misconceptions about consent and rape. The case has also underscored the importance of societal education on these issues. In particular, it reveals how cultural understandings of consent, such as the need for explicit and enthusiastic agreement, may differ internationally. In France, as in other parts of the world, this trial may serve as a critical turning point in how rape and systemic abuse are understood, addressed, and prosecuted. Advocates hope it will inspire better rape laws and a more profound societal reckoning with these crimes. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.50.4 featuring Infidel 64, Cindy Plaza, AJ and RobBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
Nativity scene controversy: Local atheist says church's new display takes it too FarKGAN, By Nick El Hajj, on November 28, 2024 https://cbs2iowa.com/news/local/nativity-scene-controversy-local-atheist-says-churchs-new-display-takes-it-too-farSolid Rock Bible Church in Iowa added an unusual twist to its nativity scene this year, including King Herod as a character and labeling him an atheist. This provocative choice ties non-belief to the infamous biblical ruler who allegedly ordered the massacre of infants in an attempt to kill baby Jesus. The story of Herod's massacre, however, appears in only one gospel—Matthew—and lacks historical evidence. The church's exaggerated depiction of Herod, complete with fangs, raises questions about its motives and the broader implications of demonizing atheists. Cindy reflects on the entrenched American stereotype that atheists lack morality, a misconception rooted in religious beliefs. She contrasts this with Europe, where atheists do not face such widespread prejudice. Cindy also notes that while the nativity scene's exaggerations are offensive, they are ultimately harmless due to their placement on private property. She humorously suggests that the church should fully embrace its theatrical tendencies by adding characters like Bugs Bunny to the scene. AJ highlights the irony of the display, pointing out that the Bible itself recounts God ordering the killing of babies in Egypt. He critiques the lack of historical corroboration for Herod's alleged massacre, arguing that the display relies solely on the Bible's narrative. AJ also emphasizes the issue of religious displays in public spaces, firmly opposing taxpayer-funded religious symbolism. He defends efforts to remove unconstitutional displays, arguing that such actions protect the principle of freedom of religion for all citizens. Rob finds the theatrical nativity scene amusing but critiques its demonization of atheists. He contrasts this with the Satanic Temple's Baphomet statues, which aim to normalize rather than vilify. Rob notes that while the church's exaggerations are laughable, they reveal a deeper intent to perpetuate harmful stereotypes about atheists. He dismisses concerns about a resurgence of satanic panic, suggesting that the rise of non-religious Americans makes such widespread moral panics unlikely. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.50.3 featuring Infidel 64, Cindy Plaza, AJ and RobBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
This Michigan lawmaker wants to 'Make Gay Marriage Illegal Again'Raw Story, By David Badash, The New Civil Rights Movement, on December 3, 2024https://www.rawstory.com/this-michigan-lawmaker-wants-to-make-gay-marriage-illegal-again/Josh Schriver, a Michigan state representative, is advocating for a regressive agenda by attempting to outlaw same-sex marriage in the state. Claiming to be Michigan's "most conservative" representative, his efforts reflect a performative stance rather than a genuine political strategy, as even his own staff resigned en masse following his controversial proposals. Public backlash aligns with national statistics showing 69% of Americans opposing such a ban, highlighting Schriver's miscalculation of societal and political support. His rhetoric extends beyond marriage equality, targeting transgender rights, reproductive health, and gender-affirming care, all under the guise of personal moral convictions often rooted in conservative religious beliefs. The discussion highlighted how personal beliefs, particularly religious ones, can dangerously influence political decisions. Cindy argued that such stances stem from a combination of entitlement and a superiority complex, as politicians like Schriver actively seek to revoke rights already established for over a decade. She also emphasized the broader consequences of normalized bigotry, drawing parallels to the aftermath of Trump's election in 2016, which emboldened similar hate-filled rhetoric. AJ expanded on this, stressing that religious dogma must remain separate from public service, as imposing these beliefs erodes individual freedoms. Yet, Rob countered that while such compartmentalization is ideal, it's often unrealistic given how deeply religious convictions shape moral worldviews. He proposed that societal education and early prevention are critical to avoiding these regressive ideologies in governance. The panel concluded by discussing the alarming potential for these backward policies to erode societal norms and legal rights. Schriver's actions represent a broader, dangerous trend of using fear and hatred against marginalized groups as a political tool, exacerbating divisions and rolling back decades of progress. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.50.2 featuring Infidel 64, Cindy Plaza, AJ and RobBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
Buc-ee's Is The Sickness At The Heart Of AmericaJalopnik, By Bradley Brownell, on November 28, 2024https://jalopnik.com/buc-ees-is-the-sickness-at-the-heart-of-america-1851683139This lively panel discussion dives into the phenomenon of Buc-ee's, the larger-than-life Texas-based gas station and convenience store chain that has captured the American imagination. The conversation unpacks Buc-ee's appeal, its critique of consumer excess, and its broader cultural implications. AJ kicks things off by describing Buc-ee's as a satirical reflection of overconsumption in America, with its over-the-top offerings ranging from sugary snacks to obscure gadgets, pointing out its immense profitability and attraction despite its indulgent nature.Rob draws a compelling parallel between Buc-ee's and religious cathedrals, positing that the chain symbolizes modern American values of convenience and consumption, becoming a quasi-monument to consumer culture. Cindy, offering an outsider's European perspective, contrasts the car-centric uniformity of American cities with Europe's history-rich, pedestrian-friendly urban planning. She sees Buc-ee's as emblematic of a uniquely American approach to architecture and lifestyle. The panelists ultimately agree that Buc-ee's represents an intersection of cultural identity, consumerism, and convenience, raising questions about how such spaces reflect societal values and the future of urban landscapes. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.50.1 featuring Infidel 64, Cindy Plaza, AJ and RobBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Do you think that children born by IVF are human beings?Christian Post, By Carl R. Trueman, on November 20, 2024https://www.christianpost.com/voices/do-you-think-that-children-born-by-ivf-are-human-beings.htmlIn this conversation, the panelists discuss Dr. Carl R. Truman's controversial views on IVF and surrogacy, particularly his assertion that children born via these methods may not be fully human. Truman argues that because IVF involves discarding fertilized eggs, it commodifies human life. The panelists criticize his stance, highlighting his attempt to equate embryos with fully developed humans as misleading and morally manipulative. They also accuse Truman of using emotional appeals to push his agenda, specifically to control women's reproductive choices, while dismissing the genuine struggles of couples facing infertility. The discussion touches on ethical concerns surrounding reproductive technologies and the hypocrisy in arguments about commodification, particularly when applied to adoption, which also involves significant financial transactions. The panelists emphasize the need for a more empathetic and scientific approach to these issues, separate from religious and ideological constraints. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.48.4 featuring Infidel 64, Stephen Harder, AJ and Scott DickieBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
5 things to know about Linda McMahon, Trump's pick for Education secretaryThe Hill, By Lexi Lonas Cochran, on November 19, 2024https://thehill.com/homenews/education/4999123-5-things-to-know-about-linda-mcmahon-trumps-pick-for-education-secretary/Linda McMahon, best known as the former WWE CEO and head of the Small Business Administration under the Trump administration, has been nominated for the role of Secretary of Education. However, her nomination has sparked widespread criticism due to her lack of experience in education. Critics are particularly alarmed by her support for charter schools, voucher systems, and the privatization of education, which could divert essential public funds to private institutions and further undermine public education. Additionally, her close ties to the America First Policy Institute raise concerns about an agenda aimed at dismantling the Department of Education and rolling back programs that promote equity and inclusion. Many argue that this nomination represents a larger trend in politics where ideological agendas and corporate interests take precedence over the genuine needs of students, teachers, and public schools, potentially jeopardizing the future of American education. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.48.3 featuring Infidel 64, Stephen Harder, AJ and Scott DickieBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
Texas board advances plan to allow Bible material in elementary school lessonsAP News, By NADIA LATHAN, on November 19, 2024https://apnews.com/article/texas-public-school-religion-bible-curriculum-education-0585dc0a1ecb04b6cf426cce08af7543?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3REIwbmlXgDNlXTd2WxcHy75rw35yw30X-oCLJQNUKHhAEwG9CYrng9Lc_aem_liKM2LWPsYK_WvcyYSuFRQThis segment delves into the controversial approval of a textbook in Texas that heavily integrates Christian teachings into public school curricula, particularly targeting kindergarten through fifth grade. Although labeled as "optional," the curriculum incentivizes schools with additional funding, creating a financial pressure for adoption. The panelists criticize the curriculum for promoting indoctrination, violating the separation of church and state, and presenting myths as facts. AJ highlights its explicit biblical focus, noting repeated references to the "Christian Bible" and the Good Samaritan story, while pointing out how historical art, such as da Vinci's "Last Supper," is reframed as religious education. Scott discusses the First Amendment implications, arguing that this curriculum prioritizes Christianity over other beliefs and undermines secular education. Stephen and others emphasize how this approach erodes trust in educators, dilutes evidence-based learning, and perpetuates harmful power dynamics, setting a dangerous precedent for religious influence in public institutions. They express concern over the alienation of non-Christian students and the broader societal implications, likening this strategy to historical examples of propaganda and scapegoating. The conversation ends with a fiery critique of the larger motivations behind blending religion with education, linking it to control over marginalized communities and reinforcing existing power structures. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.48.2 featuring Infidel 64, Stephen Harder, AJ and Scott DickieBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Muslim brothers beat Christian convert to death in Uganda A Christian teacher at an Islamic school in eastern Uganda, who had just converted from Islam on October 4th at an Christian evangelistic crusade, was subsequently murdered on October 21st, reports The Christian Post. Wanjala Hamidu, age 32, was a teacher at Swidiki Islamic School in Nankoma. When his brothers learned about his conversion, they confronted him at the school, demanding that he renounce Christ. After Hamidu refused, they beat him to death, yelling, “Infidel, infidel, shame, shame to our family!” His mother stood nearby shouting for help, but no one dared to defy the Muslim brothers. In Matthew 10:32, Jesus said, "Whoever acknowledges Me before others, I will also acknowledge before My Father in Heaven.” New York judge grants Trump request to file motion to dismiss charges Last Friday, Judge Juan Merchan granted President-elect Trump's request to file a motion to dismiss the charges in the hush money case and removed the sentencing date for the president-elect from the schedule, reports Fox News. Trump tapped Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence among others Speaking of Trump, he's made more cabinet picks, reports The Epoch Times. He picked former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard to be the Director of National Intelligence, North Dakota's Governor Doug Burgum to lead the Department of the Interior, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security, former Rep. Doug Collins to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Rep. Elise Stefanik to be U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Will Elon Musk buy MSNBC? Comcast's corporate reorganization will move cable news channels CNBC and MSNBC, along with other TV brands, into a new company tentatively named SpinCo, sparking speculation about their future, reports Newsweek. Wall Street Mav tweeted, “Comcast is putting MSNBC up for sale. CNN just announced massive layoffs [are] coming. Maybe the new owners will figure out that lying non-stop to your audience is a lousy business model.” On Friday, Donald Trump Jr. jokingly suggested that Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the world's richest man and a Trump surrogate, buy the liberal network, calling it the "funniest idea." Musk tweeted, “How much does it cost?” Babies conceived in rape should be protected from abortion too Imagine for a moment, watching repeated news stories where people say that a person like you shouldn't exist. Imagine hearing, over and over again, that you should be dead. Imagine someone telling you on TV or in real life that you should have been aborted. That's been Ryan Bomberger's experience nearly his whole life. In an attention-getting new 60-second video, he shares his testimony and challenges those who do not object to abortion in the case of rape to rethink their position. BOMBERGER: “Some say that I should have been aborted. I am the 1% that's used 100% of the time to justify abortion. You see, my birth mom was a victim of the violence of rape. But I'm so grateful that she didn't make me a victim of the violence of abortion. “You know who else is grateful? My two incredible parents who adopted 10 of their 13 children, and my amazing wife and four kiddos, two of whom were also adopted. Triumph can rise from tragedy. “My birth mom's courage proved that to be true. She was stronger than abortion, and her resilience will have beautiful reverberations for generations. “My name is Ryan Bomberger. I was conceived in rape, but adopted in love.” Powerful words indeed. Did you know that Frederick Douglass, the famed former slave and abolitionist, was also conceived in rape? Proverbs 31:8 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” Including those conceived in rape. Minnesota hospital apologizes for serving free Chick-fil-A sandwiches Staffers at a Minnesota hospital got triggered by a free Chick-fil-A sandwich. St. Mary's Medical Center treated staff to complimentary chicken sandwiches as a way to thank them for their hard work. It turns out some of those staff members were also perpetually-offended snowflakes. In an email to medical staff that was exclusively obtained by The Daily Wire, Tammy Kritzer, senior vice president at Essentia Health, wrote, “We have received feedback from some colleagues who were concerned or offended by this occurrence, and we value colleagues feeling comfortable expressing their reservations.” Instead of telling the offended staffers to eat their free meal and relax, the hospital apologized. Kritzer wrote, “We would like to thank our colleagues who had the courage to speak up to widen our lens of inclusivity.” Daily Wire reports that staffers came down with a raging case of woke indigestion because Chick-fil-A is owned by a Christian family who follows the teachings of the Bible. They also accused the privately-owned company of donating money to “anti-gay” hate groups like the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Christian talk show host Todd Starnes wrote, “For the record, there's no evidence that Chick-fil-A has ever discriminated against a member of the LGBTQIA community. It is their pleasure to feed everyone chicken.” Anniversary of Jackie Robinson named Major League Baseball's MVP in 1949 And finally, a week ago Monday, November 18th, was the anniversary of the date in 1949 when Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers was named the National League's Most Valuable Player. He was the first African-American man to play major-league baseball, having broken baseball's color line in 1947 as Rookie of the Year. Robinson led the Brooklyn Dodgers to six league championships and one World Series victory. Amazingly, he stole home plate 19 times while many players never steal home plate once. ANNOUNCER #1: “The fans will never forget the sight of Jackie Robinson preparing for the plate on his daring steal.” ANNOUNCER #2: “Here comes Robinson trying to steal home. He's safe!” ANNOUNCER #3: “The Yankee pitcher appears upset.” Robinson's presence was controversial in racially segregated Florida. He was not allowed to stay with his white teammates at the team hotel, and instead lodged at the home of Joe and Dufferin Harris, a politically active African-American couple. Then, in October 1959, Robinson entered the Greenville Municipal Airport's whites-only waiting room. Airport police asked Robinson to leave, but he refused. At a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People speech in Greenville, South Carolina, Robinson urged "complete freedom" and encouraged black citizens to vote and to protest their second-class citizenship. The following January, approximately 1,000 people marched on New Year's Day to the airport, which was desegregated shortly thereafter. Most importantly, Jackie Robinson's Christian faith sustained him through his career. As he told one reporter about his nightly practice of kneeling by his bedside to pray, “It's the best way to get closer to God,” adding with a smile, “and a hard-hit groundball.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Monday, November 25th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Joel Webbon Insists It's Not Racist To Prefer A White Doctor Over A Black DoctorAngry White Men, By , on August 23, 2024https://angrywhitemen.org/2024/08/23/joel-webbon-insists-its-not-racist-to-prefer-a-white-doctor-over-a-black-doctor/ The idea that race could be a determining factor for medical competency is both misleading and absurd. The suggestion that doctors of color might be given a "special pass" through diversity initiatives ignores the years of rigorous education, exams, and clinical training they must undergo, just like their white peers. This misguided belief perpetuates the notion that minority professionals are inherently less capable, as if their qualifications are somehow diluted by their race. The flawed logic goes further by implying that choosing a doctor based on skin color is more rational than selecting one based on actual medical credentials and expertise. This reductive thinking undermines the integrity of affirmative action, which aims to level the playing field, not lower the bar. Moreover, this view dismisses the hard work and achievements of minority doctors who have earned their place in the medical field through sheer merit. Despite the uproar from certain groups who believe they are being left out, the reality is that affirmative action does not hand out "free passes." These doctors still have to meet the same rigorous standards as anyone else. The false perception that race alone grants unearned advantages only fuels resentment and division. In fact, it's a gross oversimplification to assume that affirmative action compromises quality; it simply ensures more equitable access to opportunities that were historically unavailable to minorities.Furthermore, this kind of thinking is not just a misunderstanding—it's a form of modern-day racism, disguised as concern for fairness. The idea that a doctor's competence is tied to their ethnicity rather than their abilities is not only offensive but dangerous. It promotes a distorted view that undermines public confidence in healthcare, especially in diverse communities. While it's understandable to want a doctor you're comfortable with, basing that comfort on race alone reflects deep-seated prejudice.Interestingly, the same people who criticize affirmative action often overlook the systemic biases that have long favored white professionals. Historical exclusion from education and employment opportunities has left many minorities on the margins, and affirmative action seeks to correct this imbalance. To suggest that affirmative action is a handout is to ignore the very real barriers that have been erected against minority communities. The assumption that doctors of color are less qualified because of such policies is a harmful stereotype that reinforces racial hierarchies. The double standard in these arguments becomes even more evident when people make exceptions for certain minority groups. Claiming that one might prefer an Asian doctor over a Black one, for example, exposes the inconsistency in their reasoning. It's not about qualifications; it's about deep-rooted biases. This selective reasoning underscores how racism persists under the guise of personal preference or rational decision-making.The broader issue is how racism gets redefined to fit the narrative of those who don't want to see themselves as racist. They argue that their concerns aren't about race, but about quality. Yet, when race is the sole factor in deciding a professional's competence, the discrimination becomes clear. Even worse, some may try to justify this by claiming that racism isn't condemned in the Bible, which further highlights how deeply embedded these biases can be in both cultural and religious institutions. At the heart of this debate is the need for systemic change. Racism in healthcare, education, and employment is not new, and efforts to combat it through policies like affirmative action are crucial. However, those policies alone cannot change hearts and minds. It requires an honest acknowledgment of the biases that still pervade these systems and a commitment to treating people as individuals, not as representatives of their race. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.37.4 featuring Infidel 64, AJ, Damien H and Aaron JensenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Tennessee family's lawsuit says video long kept from them shows police force, not drugs, killed sonhttps://apnews.com/article/lethal-restraint-police-tennessee-austin-hunter-turner-ca8b91c2f3dc9584094c6fc835d49deb AP News, By jeff Martin, on August 16, 2024Why did more than 1,000 people die after police subdued them with force that isn't meant to kill?AP News by john Seewer on March 28, 2024A recent investigation led by the Associated Press, the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism at the University of Maryland, Arizona State University, and Frontline PBS has uncovered that over a thousand individuals have died in encounters with police involving non-lethal force. This extensive report highlights systemic issues within law enforcement, including inadequate training, insufficient data transparency, and the pervasive "blue wall of silence" that obstructs accountability. The investigation reveals a troubling pattern where the use of force, even when deemed non-lethal, often leads to fatal outcomes, emphasizing the urgent need for reform. The discussion raises critical questions about whether certain personality types are drawn to policing roles that might not suit their temperament. Some argue that policing attracts individuals who seek power and control, potentially leading to abusive behavior. This view suggests that a careful selection process and improved training are essential to ensure that those who enter the profession are fit for its demands. The conversation also touches on the broader issue of community policing versus an adversarial approach, especially in the context of the war on drugs, which has exacerbated the us-versus-them mentality in law enforcement. The investigation revealed that out of the thousand deaths studied, only 28 police officers faced charges, and fewer than 200 cases resulted in settlements. This statistic underscores a significant issue: holding officers accountable is often hindered by political sensitivities and systemic resistance. For example, the case of a 23-year-old man who died after being placed in a prone position by police officers, despite having a history of seizures, illustrates how inadequate training and improper handling can lead to preventable deaths. The delay in disclosing the true cause of death to the victim's family further compounds the issue. In the debate over policing, there is a middle ground between the "defund the police" movement and the "back the blue" stance. While acknowledging the need for effective law enforcement, the conversation also highlights the necessity of reforming police practices. The experience from Victoria, Australia, where a royal commission led to significant changes in police procedures, serves as a model for how transparency and accountability can reduce incidents of excessive force. The role of body cameras in policing is another focal point. Recording police interactions provides transparency and can prevent misconduct, but it also offers a clearer view of the dangerous situations officers face. The panel discussion emphasizes that while body cameras can help protect both civilians and officers, they are not a panacea. Instead, they are a tool that, when combined with proper training and oversight, can contribute to more effective policing.Ultimately, the conversation points to a need for a balanced approach to policing, one that includes proper training, accountability, and a reassessment of resource allocation. The discussion suggests that while some level of defunding or restructuring might be necessary, it is crucial to ensure that resources are redirected to areas that support effective and fair law enforcement. This includes investing in training for handling mental health crises and reconsidering the militarization of police forces. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.37.3 featuring Infidel 64, AJ, Damien H and Aaron JensenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
Stand to Reason, By Greg Koukl, on August 1, 2024https://www.str.org/w/it-s-time-to-forget-faith-In this discussion, Greg Koukl proposes a redefinition of "faith" to better align with rational and evidence-based thinking. Koukl suggests that faith should be understood as "confident convictions based on good reasons" rather than as mere belief without evidence. His goal is to reshape the perception of faith, framing it as a position supported by logical and rational foundations. This redefinition aims to counter the common criticism that faith is irrational or unsupported by evidence. The panel's reactions to Koukl's argument reflect a range of perspectives. Damian criticizes Koukl's approach by arguing that renaming faith does not address the underlying issue of evidence. He suggests that believers often shift the conversation away from substantial evidence to unrelated topics, such as evolutionary theory or cosmology, to avoid engaging with the core issue of evidence supporting their beliefs.Aaron adds to the critique by questioning Koukl's "three pillars" of active trust: reliable evidence, reliable witnesses, and convincing proofs. He argues that historical evidence supporting Christianity is often lacking and inconsistent, challenging the adequacy of these pillars in substantiating faith claims. Aaron's position highlights the difficulty of relying on these pillars when the evidence is not robust or comprehensive.AJ also questions the efficacy of Koukl's redefinition. He sees it as a superficial rebranding that does not solve the deeper issue of insufficient evidence. AJ argues that changing the definition of faith does not address the fundamental problems of evidence and reason that believers face. He raises concerns about why believers resist the term "faith" if it truly reflects their belief process and whether the redefinition genuinely addresses the criticisms of faith. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.37.2 featuring Infidel 64, AJ, Damien H and Aaron JensenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
El Paso mom won't get damages for unexpected pregnancy after believing her tubes were tiedKERA News, By Toluwani Osibamowo, on May 10, 2024https://www.keranews.org/health-wellness/2024-05-10/el-paso-mother-medical-negligence-texas-supreme-courtTexas GOP Wants a Horrifying Punishment for Abortion, IVF PatientsThe New Republic by Ellie Quinlan Houghtaling on April 1, 2024The discussion today highlights two major issues in Texas regarding women's health. The first story is about Gel Vasco, a woman who was unaware her tubes had not been tied despite paying for the procedure. She was refused compensation for her unexpected pregnancy, receiving only a $400 refund. The second story stems from a leaked meeting with the organization Abolish Abortion Texas, where the group's director, Paul Brown, outlined plans to classify abortion and the destruction of IVF embryos as murder, potentially punishable by the death penalty. This signals a return to more regressive views on women's health, akin to laws from the 1800s. These stories, discussed in articles from Kira News and New Republic, reflect a clear bias against pregnant women in Texas, where women's lives seem to be secondary to those of their unborn children.Justice Rebecca Huddle ruled that a healthy child is not an "injury" and refused compensation for Vasco's pregnancy, suggesting that carrying a healthy baby to term cannot be considered a harmful event. However, one panelist pointed out that pregnancy comes with significant physical strain, risk, and even accelerated cellular aging, which contradicts the notion that it causes no harm. Despite these realities, the Texas Supreme Court's stance reflects a broader dismissal of the health and autonomy of women in the state's healthcare system. As the discussion unfolded, it became clear that the state's policies are increasingly forcing women into situations where they must prioritize the life of the unborn over their own. Panelists critiqued Texas' punitive stance, particularly toward women and doctors, and noted the hypocrisy of the state's claim to value life, while advocating for the death penalty in cases of abortion. This ongoing conflict between women's rights and state control over their bodies leaves many in Texas in a precarious and often dangerous position. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.37.1 featuring Infidel 64, AJ, Damien H and Aaron JensenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

The Supreme Court upholds a gun control law intended to protect domestic violence victimsAP NEWS, By Mark Sherman, on June 21, 2024https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-guns-domestic-violence-d63ee828e51911cc5e5a01780820f224In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court upheld a federal gun control law designed to protect victims of domestic violence. The ruling, decided 8 to 1, reinforced the 1994 ban on firearms for individuals under restraining orders, reversing a prior decision by the New Orleans Federal Appeals Court. This ruling highlights the ongoing battle between gun rights and victim protection. The case, reported by Mark Sherman from AP News, emphasizes the court's stance on maintaining safety for those at risk of domestic violence.Clarence Thomas stood alone in dissent, continuing his trend of opposing gun control measures. His predictable stance raises questions about his broader judicial philosophy and its implications for public safety. Despite the law's intent to protect potential victims, the dissent points to a deeper debate about the balance between constitutional rights and preventative measures.Jason, reflecting on his experience as a gun owner in Texas, voiced concerns about the implications of restraining orders on gun rights. He highlighted the variability in the standards for obtaining such orders and the potential for misuse. This perspective underscores the tension between protecting individual rights and ensuring community safety. The discussion also delved into broader issues of gun control and public safety. Infidel, while acknowledging the necessity of some gun regulations, pointed out the complex dynamics at play, including the role of the drug war in militarizing police forces and escalating gun violence. The conversation revealed the intricate layers of the gun debate, from legal principles to societal impacts.Phoebe, bringing a perspective from outside the US, questioned the American obsession with firearms. She drew comparisons to countries like the UK and Australia, where strict gun control has led to significantly lower rates of gun violence. This international viewpoint highlighted the potential benefits of more stringent gun regulations. The dialogue also touched on the role of restraining orders in protecting victims while considering the potential for bias and misuse. Jason and Infidel both recognized the challenges in ensuring fair and effective implementation of these orders. The conversation underscored the need for a nuanced approach to gun control, one that balances individual rights with public safety.Overall, the Supreme Court's ruling marks a significant moment in the ongoing debate over gun control and domestic violence. It reaffirms the importance of protecting victims while highlighting the complex interplay of legal, social, and cultural factors in the American gun debate.#SupremeCourt #DomesticViolence #ClarenceThomasThe Non-Prophets, Episode 23.27.1 featuring Phoebe Rose, Infidel64, and Jason Friedman.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with author and activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali. They discuss the subversion of the West, how the pursuit of truth has become the ownership of it, the corruptive nature of the oppressor/oppressed power narrative, the importance of Christian ideals, and why a push for restoration is more necessary than ever before. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a Fellow at the Hoover Institute at Stanford University, a Senior Fellow with the Future of Diplomacy Project at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at The Harvard Kennedy School, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and the bestselling author of “Infidel” (2007) and “Heretic: Why Islam Needs a Reformation Now” (2015). Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, Hirsi Ali strove to live as a devout Muslim during her early life, but in 1992, fled to the Netherlands to escape a forced marriage. She became a citizen and went on to study at the University of Leiden. From 2003 to 2006, Hirsi Ali served as an elected member of the Dutch parliament and then moved to the U.S., where she founded the AHA Foundation to protect and defend the rights of women from harmful traditional practices. In 2024, Hirsi Ali founded Restorationbulletin.com, where she explores the forces of subversion plaguing Western society. - Links - For Ayaan Hirsi Ali: On X https://twitter.com/Ayaan?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor Restoration Bulletin https://www.restorationbulletin.com/
Ayaan Hirsi Ali is the author of several books—including the 2006 autobiography Infidel—as well as a fellow at the Hoover Institution She runs a foundation focused on human rights and, yes, she has a Substack. But Ayaan comes from a very different world from most of the people who inhabit our think tanks and ivory towers. Unlike those of us in the West who grew up with everything, Ayaan grew up in Somalia with. . . nothing. No liberty, no rule of law, no system of representative government, no pluralism, and no toleration for difference. Ayaan knows what it is like to live without those ideals, which is why she also has a particular instinct for when they are under attack. And that is exactly what she sees happening—all over the West. Today, you'll hear Ayaan read the epochal essay she published this morning in The Free Press. She explains how subversion—the act of undermining a country from within—works gradually and sometimes invisibly, but can ultimately explode and destroy a society. And she argues that what's at stake in our inability to see the threat plainly is nothing less than the preservation of our way of life. What do assisted dying, assisted suicide and euthanasia mean and what is the law?BBC.com, By BBC News, on March 24, 2024https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-47158287Assisted dying, a deeply sensitive and contentious topic, has been gaining attention as several regions in the UK consider legal changes that would allow terminally ill individuals to end their lives with medical assistance. This issue is complex, varying significantly across different regions. Cindy, hailing from a country where euthanasia is legal, explores the experiences of other nations that have legalized such practices, aiming to glean lessons applicable to the US context. The terminology in this discussion is crucial. Words like "assisted dying," "assisted suicide," and "euthanasia" must be clearly defined to ensure meaningful debate and legislative clarity. As Cindy notes, living in a country with legal euthanasia offers unique insights. In Belgium, where euthanasia has been legal since 2003, strict safeguards are in place. The process requires convincing two independent doctors, with at least a month between the request and the procedure. This thorough approach has led to a societal acceptance and normalization of the practice, demonstrating that well-structured laws can provide compassionate options without leading to misuse. One significant point raised is the importance of bodily autonomy and the right to choose how one's life ends. This choice is often about regaining a sense of control lost to terminal illness. It allows individuals to avoid prolonged suffering and make decisions surrounded by loved ones, rather than in isolation. This aspect of control and dignity is a cornerstone of the argument for legalizing assisted dying. However, there are valid concerns about the impact of such legislation on vulnerable populations, such as those with disabilities or mental illness. Infidel highlights the need for stringent safeguards to ensure that individuals are making informed, voluntary decisions. Research indicates that some individuals requesting assisted death may have psychiatric symptoms affecting their competence, underscoring the necessity for thorough evaluations and oversight beyond just a primary physician's approval.Kelley emphasizes the importance of public discussions about assisted dying to alleviate the guilt and shock often experienced by those left behind. Open conversations can help loved ones understand and accept the decisions of those suffering, reducing the emotional burden and promoting a more compassionate societal view on the matter.Reflecting on personal experiences with terminally ill loved ones, Cindy and Kelley discuss the profound impact of suffering and the desire for a dignified end. They argue that stigma around assisted dying prevents necessary conversations and compassionate solutions. In countries like Belgium, where euthanasia is integrated into healthcare, there is less resistance and more acceptance of this practice as a compassionate choice. As the debate continues in the US, it is evident that any potential legislation would need to be carefully crafted with robust safeguards to protect vulnerable individuals while respecting personal autonomy. The goal would be to provide a compassionate, dignified option for those facing unbearable suffering, similar to the successful model seen in Belgium.Ultimately, while the US may not be fully ready for widespread acceptance of assisted dying, it is a conversation that needs to be had. Public understanding, legislative clarity, and compassionate discourse are essential steps toward addressing the ethical, emotional, and practical dimensions of this complex issue. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.21.4 featuring Cynthia McDonald, Infidel64, Cindy Plaza and Kelley LaughlinBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Arizona GOP lawmaker lashes out at 'god-haters' who criticized abortion ban prayerFriendly Atheist, By Hemant Mehta, on Apr 11, 2024https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/arizona-gop-lawmaker-lashes-out-atIn a recent ruling by the Arizona State Supreme Court, the state reverted to a Civil War-era law banning almost all abortions except in cases where the mother's life is at risk. This decision has ignited controversy, particularly due to the involvement of certain state senators who held a prayer circle, speaking in tongues on the Senate floor. This religious intrusion into government affairs has sparked outrage, with critics like Helen and Jason expressing frustration over the use of religious beliefs to shape policy, especially regarding women's reproductive rights.Senator Anthony Kern's leadership in the prayer circle has drawn criticism, particularly his labeling of dissenters as "God haters." This rhetoric echoes sentiments of persecution, deflecting from the real issue at hand: the erosion of reproductive rights and the intertwining of religion with governance. Infidel and Helen have raised concerns about the implications of such rhetoric, fearing its potential consequences for marginalized groups, including LGBTQ individuals. The decision to uphold such restrictive laws and the rhetoric used to defend them highlight deeper issues within the political landscape, where personal beliefs are wielded as tools of control. Infidel emphasizes the historical context, likening the situation to pre-Civil War ideologies, while Helen underscores the dangerous precedent of mixing religion with lawmaking. In the face of these challenges, there's a call to action for the current generation to push back against regressive policies and uphold the principles of democracy and secular governance. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.16.4 featuring Cynthia McDonald, Infidel64, Jason Friedman and Helen GreeneBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Infidel and the panel explored various theories, ranging from Masonic plots to bizarre beliefs about sacrifices at the Temple in Israel. The discussion highlighted how these theories intersect with religious fundamentalism, mental health issues, and the psychology of belief.Jason shared insights from a study linking belief in fake news to delusionality, dogmatism, and religious fundamentalism. He emphasized the role of skepticism in combating the tendency to believe in falsehoods, especially among those entrenched in fundamentalist ideologies. Helen discussed the psychological aspects of belief, noting how patterns and confirmation bias contribute to entrenched worldviews.Infidel provided a real-life example of the tragic consequences of extreme beliefs, citing the case of an influencer who fatally stabbed her partner and endangered her children due to apocalyptic fears tied to the eclipse. The panel underscored the dangers of unchecked beliefs leading to harmful actions, especially in the absence of adequate mental health support. The conversation also touched on how some exploit natural phenomena like eclipses to push political agendas or foster fear and control. They dissected the social conditioning that primes individuals to accept apocalyptic narratives and authoritarian messages, highlighting the pervasive influence of religious and political ideologies in shaping beliefs and behaviors.Ultimately, the discussion emphasized the need for critical thinking, skepticism, and mental health awareness to navigate the complex interplay of belief systems, social conditioning, and psychological factors. It underscored the importance of addressing underlying issues such as mental health disparities and religious fundamentalism to mitigate the harmful effects of conspiracy theories and extreme beliefs. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.16.1 featuring Cynthia McDonald, Infidel64, Jason Friedman and Helen Greene
Richard Dawkins says Christianity is "fundamentally decent," but Islam "is not"The Friendly Atheist, By Hemant Mehta , on April 2, 2024https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/richard-dawkins-says-christianity?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=oa4eg&triedRedirect=true In this segment, the discussion revolves around a recent statement made by Richard Dawkins, a renowned evolutionary biologist and atheist, regarding his views on Christianity and Islam. Deevers aims to impose his Christian nationalist beliefs through legislation, advocating for the criminalization of activities such as viewing porn, having abortions, and even sexting. He envisions a society where the government is a tool to enforce God's will, dividing it between Christian and satanic forces. The discussion delves into the invasive nature of Deevers' proposals, questioning the morality and feasibility of enforcing such strict regulations. There's criticism of his anti-women policies, including criminalizing abortion and eliminating no-fault divorce, which are seen as regressive and oppressive. Moreover, his radical views are seen as a threat to democracy, with experts warning about the dangers of Christian nationalism. The conversation also explores the potential hypocrisy of figures like Deevers, who preach against certain behaviors while possibly engaging in them privately. There's a broader discussion about the dangers of religious extremism and its implications for society, particularly in terms of eroding democratic values and infringing on individual rights.Overall, the dialogue reflects deep concern about the rise of extremist ideologies and the potential consequences for democratic societies. Each of the Apostle Paul's letters to different first-century churches contains robust explanations of complex theological concepts, such as justification, sanctification, the connection between faith and works, and the role of Jewish law after Christ. In more than a few places, however, Paul drops punchy and simple statements such as, “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). That's straightforward. Or how about this one: “If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (1 Timothy 5:8). That's pretty clear, too. Obviously, these statements have clear implications for husbands and fathers who abandon their spouses or children, or who fail to do what is necessary to provide for them. Today, these would also seem to indict those who pressure women into aborting a child they fathered; or those who, through IVF, create multiple embryos only to abandon some of them in freezers; or those who pressure aging parents into physician-assisted suicide. The implications of Paul's blunt and powerful statement about the responsibilities we have to those who depend on us are vast. For example, I recently asked a Colson Fellow who has taught personal finance for years at a Christian college how he integrates worldview into that class. His answer was simple: stewardship. And, then he quoted Paul's clear, pithy statement about who is worse than an infidel. Few words better encapsulate what it means to be created in the image of God than stewardship. Human beings were created by God to steward the world He made. He charged our first parents with tending His garden. Though Sin made that task more difficult, it hasn't altered His original command to His image bearers to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.” In fact, this was how He intended for us to rule benevolently and wisely over all the works of God's hands. It is in this concept of stewardship that we find the key to understanding Paul's blunt statement. It's also in this concept that the task of caring for this world is even possible, as finite people with finite resources and maybe a few hungry mouths to feed at home. Genesis tells us that Adam and Eve's home was a garden that God planted for them “in the east.” This was more than a sacred flower bed. It was a sanctuary, a meeting place between God and man, and the embryonic form of the garden city that is described as complete in Revelation. The first man and woman weren't supposed to sit idly around in this garden. They were given work to do, work that would eventually involve the entire world. As theologian G.K. Beale explains, “Adam and his progeny were to expand Eden's borders until they circumscribed the earth so God's glory would thus be reflected throughout the whole world through his image-bearers.” In other words, God gave humans a starting point, a home base, a focal point where their responsibilities as stewards began. They could not start with the whole world, or they never would have started. This is still true today. No matter our roles, responsibilities, or calling, we are most responsible for the people, things, and places closest to us. This principle is often called “subsidiarity” and is the basis of sound thinking on family, finances, economics, government, and much more. The reason a person who fails to care for the members of his household is “worse than an unbeliever” is that these are the people closest to him, to whom he is most responsible. As my friend pointed out, the heart of what it means to be a good manager of family finances, a good steward of church resources, a responsible leader for a Christian college, or a good city, state, or nation is to enable care for those closest. Proximity directs priority. If true, subsidiarity means that the progressive strategies for child-rearing, welfare, healthcare, and other issues that abstract responsibility back to “society” are dangerously backward. The duties in these areas lie primarily with those closest to the needs. The concepts of stewardship and proximity also mean that leading people into a mess and then abandoning them is wrong, and reflects unbelief. This would apply to parents who create and abandon excess embryos (or “donate” their gametes), as well as to Christian colleges that sell teenagers enormous amounts of debt, have them marry each other, and then send them off to be youth pastors. It's not good stewardship, and to paraphrase Paul, potentially leaves these Christian young people in infidel territory. Ultimately, this comes back to what St. Augustine called “rightly ordered loves.” It's as impossible to love all people, all families, and all nations as it was for Adam to tend the whole Earth by himself. Love in the abstract is not actually love. We must love and care for particular people in particular places, and according to one of Paul's least difficult-to-understand teachings, those closest to us should be top priority.
