464-New Year Disciplines for Confidence and Faith

How do you plan to step into this year with confidence and faith? The new year often brings a whirlwind of resolutions and lofty goals. Perhaps you've felt that familiar pull—“I'm going to do more of this,” “I'll cut back on that,” or “This year, I'll completely turn things around.” But maybe that's not where you are right now. Maybe, instead of a burst of motivation, you feel unmotivated, stuck, or unsure. What if what you're missing isn't motivation, but faith? Faith that God is with you. Faith that He has a plan. Faith that, in Him, you can walk with a new sense of purpose. Faith is confidence. And if you feel like you're lacking confidence, let this be an invitation to lean into Him. Here are a few ways to grow in confidence this year—because as your confidence in God grows, so does your faith.   1. Make Time for Intentional Moments with the Lord Husbands, as spiritual leaders of your home, you're called to guide—not perfectly, but faithfully. Start small. Read a Bible verse to your children before bed, or take a moment to pray with your family. When you open your Bible, ask God to speak to your heart: “Lord, what do You want me to learn? Reveal Yourself to me.” These simple steps will deepen your relationship with God, building faith and intimacy with Him.   2. Embrace Risks with Courage Wives, stepping into the unknown—whether in your marriage or personal growth—can feel daunting. But just as thrill-seekers find exhilaration in challenges like skydiving or bungee jumping, there's a unique joy in stepping out in faith, even in intimate parts of your marriage. Confidence begins with trust—both in God and in the one He's placed by your side.   3. Be Useful for God's Kingdom In Revelation 3, we're reminded that God desires us to be useful—not lukewarm. Whether it's the hot water for cleansing or cold water for refreshing, each has purpose. Empty nesters, your wisdom and experience are invaluable. There's a generation that needs your guidance and your prayers. Step boldly into the role God has for you.   4. Trust in His Faithfulness No matter what you face, trust that God is working for your good. His love is steadfast, His discipline is kind, and His plans are perfect. Even in moments of waiting or trial, you can have confidence that He will see you through.     5. Look to Biblical Role Models Scripture is filled with examples of faith under pressure. Think of Mordecai's courage, Esther's boldness, Peter's willingness to step out onto the waves, and Paul's unwavering hope even in chains. Their lives remind us that faith often requires action—and that God uses those who trust Him to do extraordinary things.   This year, don't wait for the perfect moment to begin. Take a step, even a small one, toward the place you feel God is calling you. A moving ship is easier to steer than one that's standing still. We're here for you, cheering you on and praying for God to fill you with confidence—confidence that will not only transform your life but ripple out to bless your family, your community, and the Kingdom. God delights in you. Let this truth guide you as you step boldly into what He has prepared for you this year. God bless you!   Love,    Belah & Team   PS - If you want to grow in discipleship and transform your relationship with God (and in turn your marriage), we would love to chat with you: delightym.com/cc PPS - Here is a testimonial from a recent graduate: "I have grown in my time with God, my intense desire to understand the Word and trust God.  I have also grown in my openness and vulnerability with my wife, I was honestly intimidated by having open conversations with her about how I felt."

Hope with God... with Andrew and Wendy Palau

Where do the good things in your life come from? You may think that the good things in your life happened as a result of your hard work and dedication. Or through the kindness of others, but there's so much more to the story. There's someone who sees you and He knows you, and He loves you. Someone who has a good plan and purpose for your life. You know, it is God. The Bible says, Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. Your life and the blessings you've experienced are not a coincidence. God is the source of all good things and He is drawing you to Himself. You can ask Him today to make Himself known to you. Just say, “God, I want You to be the Lord of my life. Reveal Yourself to me. Help me to know You. Thank You. In Jesus name, Amen.” Remember, there is always hope with God. This is Andrew Palau. Hey everyone, Matthew Adams here. There's a profound depth in our relationship with God, where His secrets transition to revelations. It's like peeling back the layers of an onion, revealing layer after layer of the divine truth. What's the catch? A relentless pursuit of His voice.Scripture:"The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law." — DEUTERONOMY 29:29, NIVGod's realm of secrets is vast and infinite, but He doesn't keep everything concealed. His nature is to reveal and to engage, to show and to guide. As believers, we are on this continuum where the unknown gradually becomes known, the more we immerse ourselves in His presence.Point 1: The Progression of RevelationOur journey with God isn't stagnant. As you walk and talk with Him, you'll uncover fresh revelations about His character and will. He gradually shares these revelations, not to overwhelm but to enrich our understanding. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). The extent of our pursuit of God's voice often correlates with the degree of revelation we experience. It's not a transaction; it's a relationship. The hungrier you are for His voice, the more He fills your spiritual appetite.Point 3: There's Always More to ExploreThe beauty of our relationship with God is its infinite depth. Well, hello there! Welcome to the podcast! As mentioned in episode #158, we're taking a brief break from the Every Book A Promise series so that we can look at a passage that the Lord put on my heart to share with you. A couple of weeks ago I covered this passage on my other podcast (The Prayer Podcast with Jan L. Burt) and I mentioned on that show that I'd be sharing about Luke chapter 12 and Matthew chapter 24 over here on The Burt (Not Ernie) Show.  This has been in the works for a bit, and I say that in order to *hopefully* prevent anyone from thinking that this content is to make a point or is in response to or directed at any one person in particular. IT ISN'T. I promise. Now that that's out of the way and there's no reason to wonder if this is a pointy stick being jibbed and jabbed at someone, let's get down to it!   This podcast is now playing on the Edifi app. This is episode number 159.   Luke 12:35-56 (read aloud in the NLT) 35 “Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. 37 The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! 38 He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn.[d] But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready. 39 “Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into. 40 You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” 41 Peter asked, “Lord, is that illustration just for us or for everyone?” 42 And the Lord replied, “A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. 43 If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. 44 I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. 45 But what if the servant thinks, ‘My master won't be back for a while,' and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? 46 The master will return unannounced and unexpected, and he will cut the servant in pieces and banish him with the unfaithful. 47 “And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn't prepared and doesn't carry out those instructions, will be severely punished. 48 But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required. Jesus Causes Division 49 “I have come to set the world on fire, and I wish it were already burning! 50 I have a terrible baptism of suffering ahead of me, and I am under a heavy burden until it is accomplished. 51 Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to divide people against each other! 52 From now on families will be split apart, three in favor of me, and two against—or two in favor and three against. 53  ‘Father will be divided against son     and son against father; mother against daughter     and daughter against mother; and mother-in-law against daughter-in-law     and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.'[e]” 54 Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, “When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.' And you are right. 55 When the south wind blows, you say, ‘Today will be a scorcher.' And it is. 56 You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you don't know how to interpret the present times.   In the NLT, the header for verses 35-48 reads “Be Ready for the Lord's Coming” and in the Amplified it reads “Be In Readiness”. Be in readiness. Live in a state of perpetual readiness. Now, this is no easy task, no small order we find here.    Be dressed and ready for service. Keep your lamps burning. The oil often referenced in the Bible refers to the Holy Spirit. Be so filled with the Spirit of the Living God, be much with the Lord to put it very frankly, because that Holy Spirit oil is what will keep your lamp burning. No oil? No fire in the lamp. And if the lamp is not lit and burning, then we are not obeying the Lord Jesus and His command to us here in Luke chapter 12. If you do not spend time, and ample time, in the Word of God and with Him in prayer and thanksgiving (not talking about a Bible reading checklist here, but a personal relationship with the One who loved you enough to die for you). Talk with Him all day long, make a conversation with Him the thing you are doing as you drift off to sleep, pray and listen first thing when you awaken. Be dressed for service, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. You'd be paying attention, have certain things at the ready that the master would want upon his return, and if it were from a wedding feast, it would likely be a late return. Nonetheless, you'd be ready with what would please the master, ready to do your assigned tasks. That's how active waiting should take place. Though the hour seems late, don't slumber and don't slack off. Stay dressed for service and be so much with the Lord, filled with His Spirit, that when He returns you are ready and waiting, and in your readied state of waiting you will be doing the things the Lord has called you to be doing.  What are those things for you? Probably not exactly what they are in my life. For example, my children are all adults now, so I do not have the same daily child-rearing things to do that I had to do earlier in my life. This isn't a one-size-fits-all, but rather that solid relationship with your Father so that you know just what it is He wants you to be doing in this season.    This is how you will be ready to open the door and let Him in the moment He arrives and knocks. Be alert to the times and seasons in which we live. Eyes on Israel - very prudent to pay attention to what is happening in Israel in these last days. And you know, there are so many people in ministry who are talking frankly about the soon return of Jesus, I cannot think of a time this has ever been the case to this extreme. Where we see Matthew 24 coming to pass in all its varied aspects, and have church leaders who are not what could be considered out there on the fringe, stating openly that this is it, we are in the final hours. Children, even toddlers, are having dreams about Jesus and His return and there is a widening gap between those who are in the Church, who profess Jesus as Lord, this widening gap where some believe these are the last days and at any time we truly could (and I believe, will) see the beginning of the 7 year tribulation begin, a treaty that involves Israel that will be a 7 year promise type of treaty, and that's the kick off of the final 7 years, that's the book of Daniel and also Paul in both his letters to the Thessalonian church. We're almost there, folks. And yet there is a large (too large!) number of professing believers who are not in belief about this very subject. They say it's coming, but not now, later on down the road, there's more time…and really to be fair, if they don't search out the information about specifically Israel and things like looking at the number of earthquakes happening around the world, or looking into the state of the Euphrates River right now, and line this all up with the Bible, if they don't know what's going on, that would for sure contribute to not thinking we are so close. And often the one single verse, not the whole counsel of the Word of God, but one single verse that Jesus spoke, is their reasoning behind not believing this is the season of His return. Of course, that verse is that no man knows the hour or the day of the return of the Son of God. That's a true verse, 100% true. But if we take it in context, and read all of what Jesus says in this passage in Matthew 24, all His words here regarding the end times, we would find that He is actually calling us to be ready because He will come at an hour when you do not expect it. He gives signs in this chapter to know that His return is very near, and Jesus said that when you see all these things, the end is near, even at the door. That's verse 33 of Matthew 24.   I'm doing this episode of this podcast, and also of my original podcast The Burt (Not Ernie) Show about this topic, the signs of the times and the return of the King of kings, because the Lord put it on my heart to do so. To share on this. Right now. Without delay. To make short work of my obedience to what He called me to do.    In spite of those who don't want to hear it, who don't think it's time just quite yet.  But it is time. And I hope you do hear. Things are advancing. That seven year treaty will be signed soon. As it says in Luke 12, when He comes He will reward the servants who are ready. If you knew exactly when a burglar was coming, you would not permit a break in. A servant who knows what the master wants but isn't prepared and doesn't carry out those instructions will be severely punished. But what if the servant thinks, “My master won't be back for a while,”...the master will return unannounced and unexpected and will cut the servant in pieces and banish him with the unfaithful. These are the words Jesus spoke about being ready for His coming. So please, be ready. Be dressed for service. Keep your lamp burning. Be ready and waiting for His return and there will be a reward for you. It will be unexpected…so do your utmost to expect the unexpected. You must be ready all the time, it says in verse 40. Again, I use the word please…be ready all the time, starting at this time, this very moment, right now, today. Get ready, be ready, stay ready. The King is coming soon.   Lord, lead us as we serve You wholeheartedly in these last days. Show us how to pay attention to the signs of the times, the signs that mark Your soon return, and help us live ready and attentively, but not in fear or giving way to despair. Keep our eyes fixed on You, remind us of all You've promised, and keep us as the apple of Your eye as we are dressed for service, picking up our cross daily and following You, keeping our lamps burning, waiting for Your return. Save all who will come to You, Lord, and do not delay. Bring about a great end times harvest and move in the hearts and minds of men and women and children all over the world. Show us what we need to know, and by the same power that raised Jesus from the grave, enable us to do the things You want us to be doing at this moment in time. We still must go to work each day, and we want to do that for Your glory and Your honor, so lead us in doing our work well, as unto the Lord, even while we remain aware and watchful. May we be a blessing to those around us in the daily tasks we must do, and remind us to pray with boldness and great faith for the people in our lives who have needs, and who do not know You as their own Lord and Savior. May be remain dressed and ready for service continually, and never doubt in the dark what You have told us in the light. And Lord, work in the lives of Your people in Israel. Reveal Yourself to them as their Messiah. Come quickly, Lord Jesus, and save and rescue as many as possible in the days remaining before Your return. Amen.   Thanks for joining me for this special episode of The Burt (Not Ernie) Show. And I hope to see you back here for Part Two in episode number 160!

If you appreciate this work, consider supporting it - https://www.patreon.com/seekgodtogether Today we will read the first part of Psalm 14:1 which says, The fool says in his heart, “God does not exist.” No one wants to be a fool. Typically we think of a fool as someone unwise, gullible, easily duped, or silly. According to this definition of a fool however, there are many brilliant, accomplished, educated fools. But let's face it, none of us has seen God. We don't hear an audible response when we pray. We see the almost unfathomable suffering of humanity and ask, how could a good God allow this? People can almost be forgiven their disbelief. Perhaps you, like me, take God seriously, believe in Him, but still on occasion, or even often, need to re-up your faith in Him. I would like to offer you a simple exercise as you guide your own mind through the question of His existence. It goes like this… There is a universe. Everyone can agree on that. And philosophically there are only 4 possible ways that it got here. First, it could have appeared out of nothing. Truly nothing. Not a cosmic vacuum, not antimatter, not powerful laws of physics in the ether, nothing nothing. There was nothing and then there was everything. Does this work for you? It doesn't for me. Second, it could have always existed in some state. There is a problem with this. If the universe, which is subject to laws, had to pass through an infinite amount of time, or infinite number of steps to get where we are now, we'd never get to where we are now. Does that twist your mind? It does mine. And it is not a satisfactory explanation. Third, this is all an illusion. This seems silly on its face. But even if it were plausible, we all have minds to process the illusion. So it's not completely an illusion. There is something. Lastly, a being that is not subject to the laws of the universe created it out of His own power. This seems the most plausible explanation by far. You may question, doubt, challenge, or second guess your belief in God. But rest assured, it is by far the most plausible belief you can have. “God, You are still a mystery. And I haven't even seen the smallest glimpse. But I believe in You. Reveal Yourself to me more.”

If you appreciate this work, consider supporting it - https://www.patreon.com/seekgodtogether Today we will read from first Samuel. The prophet Samuel is just a boy in the house of the Lord with the priest Eli. Twice now Samuel has been awakened by the Lord. The prompting was apparently familiar enough that the boy mistook the Lord for Eli. 1 Samuel 3:7-9 says “Now Samuel had not yet experienced the Lord, because the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. Once again, for the third time, the Lord called Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am; you called me.' Then Eli understood that the Lord was calling the boy. He told Samuel, ‘Go and lie down. If He calls you, say, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening”; So Samuel went and lay down in his place.'” Have you ever been awakened in the middle of the night with the sense that it was something “Other” that was waking you? What did you think it was? Perhaps something you ate. And that may be true. But perhaps it was more. Samuel heard from God in the middle of the night - and you may as well. And when He does, there is only one response. “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening”. Samuel had not yet “experienced” the Lord, because the word had not been revealed to Him. The word of the Lord is anything the Lord reveals. And Samuel was now experiencing God. It is wondrous to think that God might even awaken You - perhaps tonight - and allow you to experience Him. And when He does, get up, fall to your knees, and simply respond. “God, I won't presume upon You - but I do want to experience You. More than anything I want to experience You. How You move is a mystery. But would You awaken me? Reveal Yourself to me. Tell me Your secrets.”

If you appreciate this work, consider supporting it - https://www.patreon.com/seekgodtogether Today we will read 2 Samuel 6:14. This verse simply says “David was dancing with all his might before the Lord wearing a linen ephod.” This is a strange and fascinating story because of what is happening, what happened before, and what happens after.  King David's men were bringing the Ark of the Covenant (the mystical presence of God among the people) back to Israel. A servant named Uzzah reached out and touched the Ark to steady it. Yet his gesture was not received well. God's anger burned and killed Uzzah. And consequently David's anger burned seemingly against God. The anger caused him to fear God more. And then later, David is dancing, mightily. He's not holding back. Wearing a linen ephod. Who knows what that looked like, and why it matters. But it's there. Later in the day the king meets up with his wife Michael. She chastises him for his lack of dignity. For his extravagant worship that seemed beneath a king. David doubled down and promised to give it even more energy next time. For Michael's part, she was unable to conceive and reproduce because of this. This story is strange, and there are many others like it. Remember we don't approach scripture to answer every question, but rather we receive it from God. God is different than you think or I think. He is more energetic, more involved, more strange, more holy, better…yes far better than we could imagine. King David was far from perfect, as we are. And yet He was a man after God's heart. We like him, would do well to consider the harsh realities we see, the strangeness we perceive, and respond with true feeling, and extravagant response in our spirits and our bodies. Perhaps this isn't how we'd naturally assume God to be, or our response. But it may be more true to His essence, and ours. “God, sometimes You scare me. You always thrill me. But You are worth the pursuit. I'll give even more to celebrate You and to know You. Reveal Yourself.”

Neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives everyone life and breath and all things. From one man He has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where thy live. He did this so they might seek God, and perhaps they might reach out and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. For in Him we live and move and exist…God now commands all people everywhere to repent, because He has set a day when He is going to judge the world in righteousness by the Man He has appointed. He has provided proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.' When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to ridicule him.” Have you ever wondered why life is the way it is, why human power dynamics are such as they are, why you seem to get just a few short years to figure things out then you die, why there's suffering, why God seems distant… Paul tells you, but will you believe him? In this pithy statement, Paul summarizes The Human Condition. Let's walk through it together. There is a God who is creative and has made everything you see and don't see. And while He Himself is immaterial and needs nothing, it is in Him that you and I have the energy of life. And He created a mechanism whereby you arrived on the scene. Trace it back far enough and you get to one man (or in other manuscripts - one blood). We are related then somehow. But there's more, we have appointed times, a start and a finish, and appointed boundaries - limits. You, as jarring as it is to admit, have limitations imposed by the Great Creator. But why? Paul's answer - so that you'd reach out and seek God. But He's not far. He's close, but He requires of you to seek. Your limits, your humanity, your experience with others, this life and breath, is all so that you'd reach out to the great uncreated Creator who is waiting for you. And in Paul's thinking, this is the essence of repentance. But there's even a limit to this paradigm. At some point, God will intervene and bring about righteous judgment. And He has opted to do so by proxy. He will judge via the God-man Jesus Himself. And how can you know that this is so? God has proven it by raising Jesus from the dead. Perhaps there are days when this seems too fanciful or mythical. Certainly Paul's listeners thought so. Some ridiculed him. Have you ever thought, “If only I lived closer to the time of Christ I'd believe easier?” Perhaps you wouldn't. Perhaps I wouldn't. Things are no different now. You and I are here - alive - thinking - and we must choose as everyone must whether to ridicule, or to repent and seek God. That is why you are of course. And it's okay to revisit this line of thinking daily if necessary. This scripture is here for that reason and this time is here for you to seek God. God I believe. I don't know it all, not by a long shot, but I believe You and I seek You. Reveal Yourself to me now.

Have you ever felt safer behind a mask, or emboldened by wearing one? We definitely have, and that's ok! Self discovery can occur by donning masks, or by lifting them, and can affect how we show up in the world.  Masks can free and liberate, or can confine and hide, like a barrier to connection.  It all depends on how we use masks as a tool, rather than a permanent facade or shield to remain unseen.  Exploring who you are as a person might first start by donning a persona, as a means of self expression, to ultimately connect what's on the surface to what's authentically inside us.

Tell me Your secrets.” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Reveal Yourself.” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

I ask You to lead us into Your perfect truth and help us to be the family You intend us to be.  Just as your word has revealed, "when men slept, the enemy sowed tares", therefore Lord, please uproot every envy, evil thoughts, seed of discord and evil plans planted by the enemy in our family. Lord, help us to be a blessing to one another and to others. Reveal Yourself to us and let us come into agreement with You. Lead us in Your ways. Grant us compassionate hearts, fill us with Your love that does not keep records of wrong, and bring joy to our hearts when we think of one another. Bring Your perfect peace and unity into our family. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
