KCCC Season 005, Episode 02 Look to call something a Alien ripoff is ridiculous because the basic plot of Alien (monster kills the crew of a ship) was used in probably half a dozen movies before it, watch It! Terror From Beyond Space and see what i'm talking about. Besides that though it's the literal plot of the section of Dracula this movie is based on, so the people saying this are criticizing a 2023 based on 1897 novel for copying a 1979 film that's writer admited to stealing ideas from everyone, notably a film from 1958. This converstation only leads to art dying in a ditch somewhere, so just have fun watching a new spin on something you liked first four times. QE or QT? The impact of these hangover expressions from another era is only now becoming apparent. Christopher Mahon of Columbia Threadneedle talks to Jonathan and Neil about how the Bank of England bought government stocks and sold them back at a loss. One example:paying £101 (QE) and later selling it for £28 (QT). The cost of this insane behaviour to the taxpayer? Probably over £115 billion (that's billion).Secure your tickets to our live event in Edinburgh – on the life and times of Fred 'the Shred' Goodwin – by clicking here. This week, your favorite ex-puppeteers tackle the foam-rubber fiasco known as Mac and Me—the 1988 E.T. knockoff so brazen, it makes you wonder if anyone at the studio had actually seen E.T. (or sobriety). We dig into the wobbly alien puppetry, the animatronics that look like they were powered by a car battery on its last legs, and of course, that infamous McDonald's dance sequence that plays like a fever dream sponsored by fries. Along the way, we'll explore how this cult catastrophe came to be, how an iconic creature studio could produce such a disastrous puppet, and why Paul Rudd has spent decades keeping it alive on Conan. It's part roast, part puppet autopsy, and part ode to the kind of movie that's so bad, it somehow becomes immortal.Because sometimes puppets inspire wonder… and sometimes they inspire lawsuits.Join the discussion on our discord! https://discord.gg/JDtWJrhPF6Follow us on twitter @PMoNPodcast and on Instagram and Threads @puppetmastersofnoneFind out more about the puppet masters on our website: https://puppetmastersofnone.wixsite.com/puppetmastersofnoneOriginal Music Composed by Taetro. @Taetro https://www.taetro.com/Send us a text

Singer-actor Earl Washington turns out to be a triple threat when he takes up carving wood blocks to make ends meet while hustling to make a life as an entertainer in Los Angeles. But just like any other artist, his wood carvings need a good origin story, so Earl creates a new identity, a made-up grandfather, and begins selling his blocks on eBay as historical relics rather than his own creations. What Earl doesn't account for is the number of times people will try to take him down, including a collector named Doug, who does his research, calls the FBI, and gets justice for the trail of deceived collectors Earl has left in his wake.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more!
