Tune in as Jessica and Saunya (Opinionated Lushes) rejoin Arthur to review and recap The Marvels, the sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel (and a few other pieces of the ever-growing MCU). The multiple factors that led to this becoming a box office bomb, the real-life cases to which the Kree's colonialist and imperialist regime can be compared (*cough cough* Israel and the U.S.), and Kamala Khan being an authentically and lovably cringey teenager comprise just a few of the talking points that the hosts dive into today. Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, Zawe Ashton, Samuel L. Jackson, Park Seo-joon, Gary Lewis, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, Leila Farzad, Abraham Popoola, Lashana Lynch, Tessa Thompson, and Daniel Ings. On the newest episode of Comics and Chronic the guys discuss MCU movie The Marvels directed by Nia DaCosta and starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani and Samuel L. Jackson. But first did Jake like Blue Beetle more? Is Kamala the best character in this? What gives Teyonah Parris her strength? Was the action good? Was Marvel forcing diversity into this film? Was the recent South Park accurate? What did we think of the musical planet? Was Valkyrie's cameo a waste? How was the end credits scene with Beast? Do we want to see even more comic accurate Bryan Singer X-Men? Are we getting the animated X-Men in the MCU? Do we like X-Men more than Avengers? Are the Avengers cooler as stand alone characters than as a team? Who wins in a fight between Homelander, Omni Man, and Superman? Did White elitism hold back The Marvels? Why does Marvel always fuck up the costume design? Does the idea of watching What If..? Season 2 make us sleepy babies? Between this and Blue Beetle which family did we like more? Which family is a wartime family? Does this movie reinforce Anthony's Young Avengers theory? Does Kelsey “Big Dick” Grammer make a good Beast? Was this the shot of adrenaline the MCU needs? Was this movie legitimately funny? Does Booms respect women? Do we know what ladies want? Find out this and more on the newest episode of Comics and Chronic! Higher, higher, higher, baybeeee! The Taste Buds review the first two episodes of Invincible season 2, plus The Marvels, and so much more, on an all-new Superhero Show Show! The Superhero Show Show #507Invincible Season 2 vs The MarvelsOn an all-new, all-different episode of The Superhero Show Show, the Taste Buds are weighing in on Invincible season 2, while also talking themselves off of the "MCU is dead" ledge and convince each other that The Marvels isn't that bad. What's Going On Invincible Season 2?The first episode of the new season of Invincible had a lot of heavy lifting to do, with what's left of the Grayson family picking up the pieces after the betrayal of Nolan, aka Omni-Man. The second one doesn't forgo all of that, but it does remind viewers that the show can also be one of the funniest superhero satires of all time, relaying more on creativity and character than fourth wall breaking and snark. Is Invincible Season 2 As Good As Season 1?Hard to tell so far, but we're off to a good start. The Taste Buds help each other remember what happened in the first season (thanks "previously on's!"), pick out their favorite funny moments, and slobber over the subtle voice work being done here, particularly by Sandra Oh.What Else Do They Talk About Besides Invincible Season 2?Then, Ryan and Mike went to see The Marvels this week, and they might have been the only ones. They attempt to put the speed bumps the MCU is going through aside and discuss the quality of the film, which is nowhere near as bad as anyone has heard. However, it is probably time for the content-factory approach, with the fix-it-in-post attitude, to go by the wayside. It's probably also time to stop not putting Iman Vellani in everything they make. All of that, plus a quick Fear the Walking Dead update, and so much more!TV EPISODES AND FILMS DISCUSSED:FEAR THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 8, EPISODE 10Watch Fear the Walking Dead on AMC+Madison makes a discovery that could lead her to the answers she seeks. For more about this episode of Fear the Walking Dead, check out this episode of The Talking Dead!INVINCIBLE SEASON 2, EPISODE 2Watch Invincible on Amazon PrimeIt's summer break for Mark and his friends, but supervillains don't take a vacation. There's one department the Marvel Cinematic Universe is especially consistent in -- casting. And that's in large part due to the brilliant eye of longtime franchise casting director Sarah Finn. She's been with the series since 2008's Iron Man and has been sending careers soaring ever since. One of her latest A+ finds? The effervescent star of Ms. Marvel and now The Marvels, Iman Vellani. There is no better fit for the role of Kamala Khan than Vellani. As an extremely passionate Marvel fan herself, she has effortlessly infused Kamala with an infectious enthusiasm for everything Avengers. Yes, she did experience quite the evolution in Ms. Marvel after discovering she's a superpowered individual herself, but she still has a lot of growing to do while facing her biggest test yet in Nia DaCosta's The Marvels where Kamala is challenged to hold her own alongside two wildly powerful MCU forces, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. With The Marvels now in theaters nationwide and with SAG-AFTRA reaching a tentative deal with the AMPTP, Vellani was able to join us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to revisit her journey scoring the role of her dreams and how Kamala's evolved since. "The Marvels," a 2023 American superhero film from Marvel Studios serves as the sequel to "Captain Marvel" (2019) and a continuation of the miniseries "Ms. Marvel" (2022). Directed by Nia DaCosta, who co-wrote the screenplay with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik, the film features Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, portrayed by Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani, respectively. The plot revolves around these characters teaming up as they begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers.A notable feature of the film is its mid-credits scene, where Monica Rambeau awakens in a parallel universe and is greeted by an alternate version of her mother, Maria, and the mutant scientist Hank McCoy. This scene sets the stage for future developments in the MCU and hints at the expansion of the universe with the inclusion of mutants.Discussion on this film involves in-depth conversation on the plot, character arcs, and post-credit scenes. The character dynamics, particularly the unique team-up and character-swapping mechanism, offer a fresh take on superhero team-ups. The film's connection to the broader MCU narrative, especially with its mid-credits scene, makes it a pivotal piece in the ongoing sagaThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5939723/advertisement

The new movie The Marvels is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's breezier outings, full of energy and jokes and zappy light powers. Brie Larson returns as Captain Marvel, and sees her teaming up with newer characters, Monica Rambeau (played by Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani). They must team up when their powers become entangled and cause them to switch places whenever they try to use them.
Directed by Nia DaCosta and starring Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, and Samuel L. Jackson, "The Marvels" really took us by surprise. The film is a fun, action packed yet breezy entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one that we can't wait to revisit. "The Marvels" is fun trash. It's entertaining, goofy, and the opposite of serious, but it's well below normal Marvel expectations. With a weak story, weak plot, and a forgettable villain this movie serves to fill the gaps rather than stand on its own. Brie Larson's Carol Danvers is supposed to be the draw, but newcomer Iman Vellani's performance saves this film from being a flat, heartless mess. Not so sure about going higher and further, but at slightly over 90 minutes, at least THE MARVELS goes faster! Iman Vellani and Goose are the stars here, but an undercooked main plot and maybe the worst villain the MCU has had yet sink this thrown together mixed bag despite it being a refreshingly diverse female-led superhero flick.
