A slow weave of some of the past year's Field Recordings, from a child playing in the snow to a brass band playing Christmas carols in the street. Father and daughter build a snowman in the backyard, Copenhagen, Denmark on 2nd January 2025 – by Joyce de Badts Cracking the ice underfoot over a frozen puddle, Low Bentham, North Yorkshire, UK in early January 2025 – by Charlotte Petts Ice on Queen's Park Pond, Glasgow, Scotland in January 2025 – by Katie Revell “Recorded using a contact microphone at Queen's Park pond on the Southside of Glasgow, during a cold snap in January. The pond had frozen over (which doesn't happen often), and people were walking and skating on it. One person asked if I was measuring the thickness of the ice. I handed my headphones round a group of kids, and it was fun to watch their reactions to the sci-fi noises…” Snow slowly melting from a bridge next to Ribblehead viaduct, North Yorkshire, UK in early January 2025 – by Charlotte Petts Listening to the river flow as the snow melts into the water from the fields nearby,  River Wenning, Bentham, North Yorkshire, UK in early January 2025 – by Charlotte Petts Tawny Owls voicing the starry dark, the foot of Dartmoor, UK at 5am on 3rd January 2025 – by Kirsteen McNish “I stood on the doorstep to look at the stars because of the ice bright visibility and heard them calling to each other.” Primal scream atop Bernal Hill, San Francisco, USA on 20th January 2025 at 9am – by Kristina Loring “A group of organizers had distributed flyers in our neighborhood for a timely cathartic moment atop the large mountain park that overlooks the city of San Francisco and the bay. It was organized to coincide with the swearing-in of the newest conservative American regime on Inauguration day. But one's rage can't be limited to whoever is in the presidential office. We scream for a litany of injustices—an endless list that cannot be exhausted here. Many rages filled my lungs that day and escaped my mouth in an inarticulate howl. Beneath the rage was a yearning for: Justice for Palestinians everywhere. Justice for trans folks everywhere. Justice for refugees everywhere.” Dead leaves on a silver birch, Stanton Moor, Derbyshire, UK on 5th February 2025 – by Rose de Larrabeiti “I took myself to Derbyshire for a few days in early February. I walked up to Stanton Moor with my dog Rosie (not named by me!) looking for a Bronze Age stone circle called the Nine Ladies. Nearby were silver birches with their dead brown leaves rustling in the wind.” Babble of Ta Ta Creek spring, British Columbia, Canada in early February 2025 – by PJ Howe “Here is a little recording of our local spring. We hiked through 2ft of snow in the -10 temps to the head of our local creek. Due to the deep cold we are in, the ice formations around the spring are spectacular. The quiet babble of the creek makes this such a special place.” Geothermal mud pools in Rotorua, Aotearoa (New Zealand) on 8th February 2025 – by Will Coley Woodpecker in back garden, south-east London, UK on 14th February 2025 – by Cesar Gimeno Lavin “This morning I was delighted to find that, after quite a few months, this woodpecker has returned! Back to the very same tree. I love how the sound echoes around the garden.” ‘Silence' in Doubtful Sound, Aotearoa (New Zealand) on 15th February 2025 – by Will Coley Steam train arriving and then departing, Haworth, West Yorkshire, UK on 17th February 2025 – by Cesar Gimeno Lavin Walking in the dry, squeaky-crunchy snow on Elm Street in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada on 22nd February 2025 – by Laura Nerenberg “The snow was delightfully squeaky and I took every chance I could to stomp around…” The last performance of the world's largest pipe organ, Philadelphia, USA on 22nd March 2025 – by Alex Lewis “Thousands of people gathered on Saturday, March 22nd at Macy's in Philadelphia, PA to hear the last performances of the Wanamaker Organ – possibly the world's largest pipe organ – as the department store marked its final weekend in business. This is an excerpt from the final recital by John Wanamaker Grand Court Organist Peter Richard Conte. My wife gave this piece the unofficial title: ‘an elegy for in-person shopping'.” Squeaky frogs, Watcarrick, near Eskdalemuir, Scotland on 25th March 2025 – by Geoff McQueen ‘Hands Off' March, New York, USA on Saturday 5th April 2025 – by Jon Moskowitz Nightingales at Knepp, Sussex, UK in April 2025 – by Charlotte Petts “…from my camp out at the Knepp estate last week – managed to creep up pretty close to a nightingale singing in the shrubby hedgerows. It started late in the night after I'd gone to bed, and had already stopped by morning. When I woke up there was the shock of a white, white world and a few inches on the ground. I got lost in the stillness of the day, and watched little heaps tumble from branches when a breeze rattled through.”

Episode 12 sees us size up our first Cuban sandwich at Papi’s Kitchen in Soho. We walk past this stall on Rupert Street almost every day and the smells, coupled with the lengthy queues, piqued our interest. Owned by the charismatic Cleb Mendonca, this place has only been up and running for a matter of months but comfortably outshines the competition at ‘Street Food Union Market’ with its mouth watering Cuban concoctions. This guy has worked hard to perfect his recipe (he legit cycles across London every day to pick up fresh bread) so we were excited to put his signature ‘El Cubano’ to the test! Hey hey peeps! Except for mother nature playing havoc with the weather here in London, it has been a real good start to '13' with the two club nites in February and March @ the Apothecary. A massive thank you to all you guys who were involved who made it happen. You know who you are ;-) So now what's next? Decided to concentrate on the DJSWORK website/search engine and get the house music out there this summer. Who better to start it off with the house flava than with the sound of this Dj. 'Dzieki' Norbert for taking the time to do this podcast and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do!! Catch your healthy dose of non stop house music podcasts on https://www.facebook.com/groups/djswork and the sister page https://www.facebook.com/pages/DJSWORK/169643933054634. If you like any of the tracks, support the artist and buy the track. This podcast is for promotional use only. Luv the house, luv DJSWORK!! Chi 'Matinales' N (House music lover) DJSWORK (London) ON THE DECKS WITH NORBERT MIKLINSKI: 1. So how and when did you start djing? It’s been a long way and actually it didn’t start with djing in mind, but with sharing my love to dance music and playing my tapes & cds at home parties. At that time in Poland (where I come from) dance/house music was underestimated, rock, metal and polish rock was a main stream and it was a quite a challenge to bring new genre to people. At the end it was appreciated! Later on, my music fascination naturally evolved into the desire to dj. I decided to move to London and give it a try. I taught myself and thanks to Dj Alessandro Londra I had my first night at Rupert Street bar:-) 2. What style of house would you say you play if you can? Friend of mine called it diverse & eclectic, I would say it’s funky/disco/tech-house, literally aimed at a mixture of audiences & tastes. 3.Who were/are your influences when it comes to house music? I can easily say late 80’s and early 90’s music is in my roots and not just pure dance, house or disco but pop and rock as well. Listening to my podcast you can find Queen, Kate Bush or Bon Jovi sampled among others. Besides, I grew up on Bristol sounds like Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack but possibly the biggest influence made was Faithless, Kosheen and Prodigy. I can’t forget about Air, Daft Punk, Royksopp or Chemical Brothers. My godfather of house is Fatboy Slim followed by Tom Novy and Jam & Spoon. Nowadays Chris Lake is huge and on London scene Hoxton Whores and Sharp Boys! 4. Has it always been house music for you? Yes it has. I caught the bug probably form the first time I heard Black Box “Ride on Time” and Technotronic “Pump Up the Jam”. My all time classics! 5. Do you produce tracks and if not when are you going to Not yet but I plan to learn Ableton. I’ve course on my mind. 6. Where do you/have you played? So far I played in Fire (A:M, Gravity), Area (Onyx), Shadow Lounge/Lo-Profile (Gigolo) and Heaven, Ku Bar and MoS taking part in DJ competitions. 7. Ultimate Dj you would like to do a b2b with? Did I mention Hoxton Whores? I love their sound! 8. So your best gig to date? Probably my first international gig. Last year I played in Amsterdam at FunHouse - Animal Farm, little “sister” of infamous Rapido! I played a 4 hour set on the main floor facing more than 1,000 clubbers! It was an absolutely insane, unbelievable experience, almost unreal! 9. From a dj's standpoint, your ultimate venue? Ministry of Sound of course! I had a chance to play in their Loft during Movida Corona competition. I’d love to play in The Box or even more The 103. That would be absolutely massive! 10. Where do you see your music progressing in '13''. Probably it will progress more into tougher tech-house but still influenced by disco and 80/90 sound. That’s what I like! Look, it sounds a bit like MCV, which is where industry gatekeeper and this week’s superguest Michael French works. He’s editor-in-chief, no less: making him, literally, the man in charge of the games industry’s news. Marvel as we give him the customary OLL grilling, and manage to glean literally none of his secrets. Elsewhere it’s business as usual. We’ve features, chat, a joke (of sorts), music and no Ste: he’s drinking in a holiday camp once again. We secretly suspect he’s a Redcoat . And when we say “secretly” we now mean publicly. No Ste means horrific desk errors, due to a the schoolboy one of not actually numbering the tracks on the CD. Our Twitter Poll (@OneLifeLeft) encouraged us to leave the mistakes in. Blame the listeners, not the broadcasters. You know Chris Moyles records his shows a month in advance, don’t you? Hey, write us: We love your letters. But if that’s not enough, we sometimes reward those who take the time to correspond with free things – this week, we have PSP Minis D-Cube Planet and Circles as prizes, thanks to the kindness of developer GameShastra. And as we – or Michael – call it: these can soon be enjoyed on the PS3. It would have been another One Life Left EX-EX-EX-excusive if the podcast had been up on time. Next week: the team reunite, for our last show of the year. And most importantly, the last show before the OLL Christmas knees-up (December 18th, from 5:00pm, with a live show at 8:00pm. The Blue Posts, Rupert Street, Soho). It will be literally unbroadcastable: hear it while you can. See you soon. Lots of love Team@OneLifeLeft.com
