More specifically, in the current environment, in which secular authorities have already used their political power to shut down houses of worship all across the United States, when is it biblically permissible for the Christian to say, “Enough is enough” and act contra Caesar or against the State? This episode will provide clarity and meaningful answers. Our Scripture focus will be Romans 13:1-7.

Many adjectives can be used to describe the year that 2020 has been, but one that comes close to capturing the essence of it all is "disruptive." The world has been disrupted on many different levels and it would seem as if many different things are collapsing simultaneously. But, what if there was a big, central narrative that animated all the diverse and chaotic smaller narratives? What if I told you nearly 100 years ago, a man by the name of Antonio Gramsci developed an ideological strategy to essentially destroy Western civilization by going to war against biblical Christianity and replacing it with a Satanic false religion? What if I told you we are seeing that war play out before our very eyes and the only way to know and prepare for what's coming next is to know what the endgame is? This is an episode of WCSK that you cannot miss. Our Scripture focus will be Psalm 2. Link: https://mises.org/wire/antonio-gramsci-greatest-political-strategist-history

Jeff discusses an unexpected discovery that tied a specific gene to a genetic form of hearing loss. And Tina describes her investigations into ways to reverse sensorineural hearing loss—the most common type. What are the obstacles and possible solutions? Both talked with me at the 2019 ASHA Convention, where they presented at the Research Symposium on Hearing.   Then, we hear from Bob Hillman, recipient of the 2019 Alfred K. Kawana Award for Lifetime Achievement in Publications. We talk about the twist in his path that changed everything in his work with the voice and voice disorders.

Lawrence Hoskins, a UK citizen and former Alstom executive, was convicted last Friday on 11 of 12 counts for his role in a bribery scheme involving Indonesian officials. Hoskins conviction took years to secure because of jurisdictional challenges and appeals. Hoskins was originally indicted in 2013.   The jury deliberated for one day – a resounding victory for DOJ prosecutors. Hoskins' defense team launched an unusual defense, claiming that Hoskins did not act as an “agent of a domestic concern” because he was the principal who made all relevant decisions with regard to the bribery scheme. The jury's quick verdict reflects its rejection of such a technical defense. After a two-week trial, Hoskins was convicted of six counts of violating the FCPA, three counts of money laundering and two counts of conspiracy. The judge set a sentencing date in January 2020.   In this Episode, Michael Volkov reviews the Hoskins trial and verdict.

OFAC's new  Framework for Sanctions Compliance Programs is a game changer. When it comes to sanctions compliance programs, most companies are well behind the curve. OFAC's new framework raises the bar by creating a well-crafted framework for companies to assess their current program and then re-design important elements to meet OFAC's standards. To the extent that a company's sanctions compliance program operates as part of an overall ethics and compliance program (which it should), a company should already be well positioned in a number of areas that are generally applicable to all ethics and compliance programs. When it comes to some of the more specific sanctions risks, the definition of these sanctions' risks, and the prescriptive elements of OFAC's framework, that is where companies need to get to work and implement improvements.   In this Episode, Michael Volkov discusses important elements for organization's to assess and craft program improvements.

Donald Trump has nominated Betsy DeVos, a free-market, far-right Christian billionaire dedicated to privatizing public schools, to be his Secretary of Education. In her confirmation hearing, DeVos made it painfully clear that she has little understanding of public education aside from her dedication to destroying it. She is the heir to an auto parts fortune and her husband, Dick, is the heir to a fortune derived from the direct sales company Amway, which the FTC at one point decided was not a pyramid scheme. Interestingly, she is also the brother of Erik Prince, who founded the infamous mercenary army Blackwater has now, according to The Intercept, been quietly advising the Trump Administration. The couple, thanks to their money and relentless ideological drive, are heavy-duty power players in Michigan politics, where they have wreaked havoc on Detroit public schools. In many ways, this oligarch's nomination is the extreme and cartoonesque outcome of decades of bipartisan corporate-aligned policy that pushed charters and high stakes testing, and attacked the teachers unions that stood in their way. Today, we're joined by historian Diane Ravitch, one of the country's leading scholars of education policy and a vocal critic of corporate reform efforts that promote privatization and high-stakes testing as the solution to problems largely created by segregation, poverty and funding inequity. Amongst many other books, Ravitch is the author of “The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education.”

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer, `Sir,' said I, `or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore; But the fact is I was watching television when you came rapping, And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door, That I scarce was sure I heard you' - here I opened wide the door; - Michael Grade, and nothing more. Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token, And the only word there spoken was the whispered words, `Doctor Who No More!' This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, ` Doctor Who No More?' Merely this and nothing more.   Much I marvelled this ungainly felow hear discourse so plainly, Though its answer little meaning - little relevancy bore; For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being Ever yet was blessed with seeing Grade at his chamber door - Man or beast above the head of pertwee above his chamber door, With such vermance came his word again `Nevermore.' `Prophet!' said I, `thing of evil! - prophet still, if  BBC director or devil! – Whether tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore, Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted - On this home by horror haunted - tell me truly, I implore - Is there - is there no hope for my timelord? - tell me - tell me, I implore!' Laughed the Controler `Nevermore!' With just these words he few away.   And the BBC, never failing, still is sitting on the rights evermore, still is plotting scemeing, waiting a man, a  man to rap at my chamber door.   And This man, - lets call him Russel- his eyes a dreaming,  Dreaming of his common myth. And the New controller will hold promice, dreams of blue lamp-light flashing; And my soul rises from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Doctor Who – For ever more!
