Basically a Marina is a safe and secure place to keep a boat secured to a pontoon berth. They come in all shapes and sizes and can be found around coastal location and on inland waterways. The berthing fees costs vary depending on location, standards and services. What/Who is MDL (Marina Developments LTD)  The MDL team includes experienced and professionally qualified specialists in all facets of marina development and marina operations. As well as the UK base, MDL has offices in France, Italy and Spain with experienced representatives in each country. During the course of 45 years operating in the marina sector we have developed a complete in-house management and development resource that is not only self sufficient but broad in its experience and knowledge.  Freedom Berthing gives you even more freedom to explore any of the 18 marinas in our UK network stretching from Devon to Suffolk, plus over 130 European destinations in France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. Welcome to episode 2 of the Swim Wild podcast. This week I’m talking to Sarah, a very lovely, funny woman who very generously shares her time and experiences with me. Our conversation about wild swimming goes into many different subjects. But the thing that I come away thinking about, is how similar we are when we sign up to do an event. By the time this podcast goes live, she will have done the 10km Bwrlwm Bermo - Barmouth Hurly Burly, and I’ll have completed the 1.5km Aberdovey Swim. We met the weekend before, both contemplating having a week to go before our big event of the year. For Sarah, the 10km challenge will be the farthest she has ever swum – by a considerable distance. I’m utterly in awe at the thought of completing such a distance. For me, more comfortable swimming in lakes, the Aberdovey swim will pose new and unknown challenges – not in terms of distance, as I’ll comfortably swim a mile each week in the local lake, but through the unpredictability of the weather and the effect of the tide. I don’t do a lot of sea swimming, I understand the water less, feel more nervous about its power and overall less in control. When we talked about our respective events, neither of us knew the detail. We had the big picture – date, place, time. But neither of us had studied the details. For me, it’s the detail that can psyche me out. If I’d read too much about what the weather had been like on the same weekend in previous years, or how strong the currents and tides were, I wouldn’t have felt more prepared, I’d have felt more scared. Sarah seemed to have the same psychology. Her approach was, “I’ve been working on the distance. On the day I’ll just turn up and do it.” She wasn’t even sure which way up the estuary she would be swimming. I admire this brave and crazy approach. I equally admire people who study the detail and use that to give them confidence. I’ve done quite a few events this year, and am starting to think I’ll do less next year. Not less swimming. Never less swimming. But less events. Less mass starts. Less event swimming hats. Less medals. Some events have pushed me to swim in places I might not venture into. Others take me to places that may otherwise lay undiscovered – it’s Killary Fjord next week! Others test your stamina due to the distance or temperature, or presence of jellyfish. But next year, I’m wondering if I can summon up these tests into a calendar of events that only involve myself and a couple of friends. We could design our own t-shirt and hat and medal and tick them off as we go – finding the things that will push each of us to discover new places, experience more joy and face personal demons. That’s what I’ll mainly be Googling this week! Places we mention Capernwray diving centre, Burgh Island, Salcombe, The Pilchard Inn, USwim Boundary Park, Holmes Chapel, Great North Swim, Windermere, Hatchmere, Bala – Llyn Tegid, The Quarry near Delamere, Coniston, Cumbria, Alderford lake, Pickmere Events we mention Epic events, Bwrlwm Bermo - Barmouth Hurly Burly, Salford Quays polar swim, Aberdovey Swim, Big Welsh Swim, Great North Swim, Windermere Groups we mention #ChesterFrosties, Outdoor Swimming Society Other stuff Robson Green wild swimming adventure, Swim Trek, Brownlee Brothers, Raynaud’s, OW swim coaching qualification

In this episode of Informed Choice Radio, Martin talks about what happens when your defined benefit pension scheme goes bust. There is also a roundup of the latest personal finance news and an update from the world of Informed Choice. What happens when your pension scheme goes bust? Retail giant BHS going into liquidation is clearly bad news for its 11,000 employees, but what about the 20,000 members of its pension scheme? There are around 6,000 defined benefit pension schemes in the UK. The majority of these are in deficit, which means they don’t have enough assets to cover their liabilities. The latest estimates suggest it would cost £571m to fully cover the BHS Pension Scheme liabilities, using insurance or a buyout. That money simply isn’t there, so what happens to members of the BHS Pension Scheme? There is a lifeboat scheme in the UK, it’s called the Pension Protection Fund. This was established to pay compensation to members of eligible defined benefit pension schemes, when there is a qualifying insolvency event in relation to the employer and where there are insufficient assets in the pension scheme to cover Pension Protection Fund levels of compensation. In this episode of Informed Choice Radio, Martin explains how the Pension Protection Fund works, who pays for it and what level of compensation the members of bust pension schemes might expect to receive. Personal finance news update -The most expensive seaside town in the UK is Sandbanks in Dorset, closely followed by Salcombe in Devon. -Older investors appear to be holding their nerve ahead of the EU Referendum, with almost three quarters not changing their investment strategy since the vote was announced. -The final design for the new £5 bank note has been revealed, before it enters circulation on 13th September. -Bond giant Pimco has warned that a "radical" political party taking power in the eurozone could tear the bloc apart. -Department store giant BHS is going into liquidation, after attempts to find a buyer for the stores failed. -A vote to leave the European Union could result in a 10% fall in the value of the FTSE 100 index during the next year. Clare Balding joins Gordon and Caroline Luff and their son, Sam, to walk a section of the South West Coastal Path from Hope Cove to Salcombe. This is thought to be one of the most beautiful stretches of the 630 mile long distance footpath where kestrels and peregrine falcons can be seen flying above the cliffs and seals can sometimes be seen down below. The walk is one that Gordon and Caroline have done several times but, after surviving breast cancer in 2001, Caroline then faced agonising back pain resulting in spinal surgery in 2010. Throughout both her treatment for cancer and surgery on her back, Caroline was determined to continue with the walking that she loves. The last time Gordon and Caroline walked from Hope Cove to Salcombe ended in tears with Caroline convinced that she would never walk again. Along with their son Sam, Clare joins Gordon and Caroline as they return to the aptly named Hope Cove to walk the route to Salcombe, something that Caroline can now do pain-free. And when the group reach Soar Mill Cove, nobody can resist taking off their walking boots and running into the sea for a paddle. Presenter: Clare Balding Producer: Helen Chetwynd.
