Those visiting Clare's waterways this weekend are being reminded that many drowning victims don't even intend to get into water. This May Bank Holiday, Water Safety Ireland, the Coast Guard, and the RNLI are collectively urging the public to prioritise safety both during water activities and when walking near waterways. Research shows that 36% of people don't know what to do if they get into trouble in the water. Clarecastle-based Chairperson of Water Safety Ireland Clare McGrath has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons that extreme caution should be observed when walking along cliff edges and river banks.

The bosses of an air show being held in Thanet has told the KentOnline Podcast there's no truth to the rumour it could have to be called off because of road closures. If the Manston International Air Show is to go ahead in 2025, it would mean major roads around the event would have to be shut – a move that could cause gridlock during the summer holidays. Also in today's podcast, a Nando's restaurant which claimed to have closed for “some DIY” was actually pest-proofing to help solve its “mouse activity” problem.Bosses were given a two star hygiene rating after the rodents were spotted by inspectors. Terrified neighbours say children “dicing with death” after climbing on roofs and into windows at an abandoned care home in Deal. The site is set for redevelopment but police have been called to reports of groups of youths accessing the derelict site. The head chef of a restaurant in Kent has told the Podcast what it's like to lose a Michelin star. You can hear from Graham Garrett, chef at The West House in Biddenden, on what it was like to lose the accolade after holding it for 16 consecutive years. And, charity volunteers have been left stunned after Home Bargains bosses would not allow a Father Christmas fundraiser to be set up in a Kent store.RNLI organisers had arranged for their Santa to collect donations from shoppers and dish out goodie bags to children – only for volunteers to be turned away on the day.

Tá sé aontaithe ag ceannairí domhanda roimhe seo, go ndéanfar iarracht gan téamh domhanda a ligeann os cionn 1.5 céim Celsius níos teo faoi dheireadh na chéid, ach sáraíodh an teorainn sin cheana féin i mbliana. An cumadóir Johnny Duhan é an té a báthadh i nGaillimh inniu. Johnny Duhan, the well-known songwriter, is the man who drowned this morning after swimming at Head Beach in Bearna, County Galway. Is é Johnny Duhan, an cumadóir amhrán aitheanta, an fear a báthadh ar maidin tar éis sul ag snámh ag Trá na gCeannn i mBearna, Contae na Gaillimhe. The most popular song he composed was 'The Voyage', a well-known song which was covered by Christy Moore and had an album around it. ‘The Voyage' é an t-amhrán ba mhó tóir dár chum sé, amhrán aitheanta a chas Christy Moore agus a chuir album timpeall air. Johnny Duhan is originally from Limerick but settled in Bearna a few years ago. As Luimneach ó dhúchas do Johnny Duhan ach chuir sé faoi i mBearna roinnt blianta ó shin. He is survived by his wife Maureen, their five children, grandchildren and other relatives. Maireann a bhean chéile Maureen, a gcúigear páistí, garchlann agus gaolta eile. An extensive search began off the coast of Galway when he did not return home after his usual morning swim. Thosaigh cuardach cuimsitheach amach ó chósta na Gaillimhe nuair nár fhill sé abhaile tar éis dó dul ag snámh ar maidin, mar ba ghnách dó. It was not long after that that it came to light that another person, a woman in her thirties, was also missing from Head Beach. Níorbh fhada ina dhiaidh sin gur tháinig sé chun solais go raibh duine eile, bean sna tríochadaí, ar iarraidh freisin ar Thrá na gCeann. The emergency services were called when she did not arrive at work as expected. Cuireadh fios ar na seirbhísí éigeandála nuair nár tháinig sí ag an obair mar a raibh súil leí. The search was carried out by the Coast Guard, the RNLI and Civil Defense teams. Chuaigh an Garda Cósta, an RNLI agus buíonta den Chosaint Sibhialta i mbun an chuardaigh. Local people and some small boats came to help in the search, by land and by sea. Tháinig daoine áitiúla agus roinnt bád beag i gcabhair ar an gcuardach, ar thír agus ar muir. A body was found in the water this afternoon near Cuan Roisín between Bearna and Bóthar na Trá, some time west of the city. Thángthas ar chorp san uisce tráthnóna gar do Chuan Roisín idir Bhearna agus Bhóthar na Trá, tamall siar ón gcathair. It is an unusual incident for two people who did not know each other to be missing from the same place, and Gardaí are trying to understand how the events of the morning unfolded.. Eachtra neamhghnáthach é beirt nach raibh aithne ar a chéile bheith ar iarraidh ón láthair chéanna, agus tá Gardaí ag iarraidh a thuiscint cé mar a thit imeachtaí na maidne amach.. It was calm weather and a calm sea in the morning, but the fog of the day hindered the search. Aimsir chiúin agus farraige chalm a bhí ann ar maidin, ach chuir ceo an lae as don chuardach. The search for the woman had to be suspended at nightfall, but will begin again at sunrise. B'éigean an cuardach don bhean a chur ar fionraí le titim na hoíche, ach tosófar ina bhun arís le héirí na gréine. One of the biggest open water swimming clubs in the country will be celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.  From an initial membership of just three, Atlantic Masters Swimming Club has over 100 members and has achieved so much in the past 10 years from at least 100 crossings of Galway Bay to the big Channel Swims like the English and North Channel. It has also raised a vast amount of money for various charities including Cancer Care West, RNLI, OMCSU plus many more. To celebrate this achievement, the club will hold an exceptional anniversary night out in the Ardiluan Hotel on November 16th with a 3 course meal, wine reception and some very special guests. Fergal Madden and Christina Hyland joined John Mulligan in the studio on Saturday Sport.

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

Some friends went boating in the English Channel, hoping the forecast for stormy weather would change. But the winds rose and the waves became choppy, threatening the safety of their vessel, so they radioed for help to the RNLI (the Royal National Lifeboat Institution). After some tense moments, they spotted their rescuers in the distance and realized with relief they’d soon be safe. As my friend reflected gratefully afterward, “Whether or not people ignore the rules of the sea, the RNLI still comes to the rescue.” As he recounted the story, I thought about how Jesus leads God’s search-and-rescue mission. He came to Earth to become a man, living as one of us. Through His death and resurrection, He provided us with a rescue plan when our sin and disobedience separated us from God. This truth is emphasized by Paul, when writing to the church at Galatia: “The Lord Jesus Christ . . . gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age” (Galatians 1:4). Paul reminded the Galatians of the gift of new life they received through Jesus’s death so that they would honor God day by day. Jesus, our rescuer, willingly died to save us from being lost. Because He did, we have life in the kingdom of God, and in gratitude we can share the life-saving news with those in our community.

Joe's just back from a trip to the Isle of White where he over-ate and also had quite a few compliments from the locals about The Cockfields. Being a big supporter of the RNLI, he also took the opportunity to visit their station in Bembridge and tells David about watching one of the boats launch. Then for some reason, David remembers that David Walliams has swam the English Channel and so they want to find someone who's done that too, to ask them what it's like. Talk then inevitably turns to moving to the Isle of White and also, who gets the ball rolling on discussions about stuff like that with their wives. They then consider loads of other locations across the UK as possibilities to relocate to - so much so that it soon develops into a ‘yes or no' game show. Furious residents say their estate near Ashford still smells like “rotten eggs” - despite a water company spending £4.3 million upgrading a nearby sewage works. Some say the foul stench still stops them from opening windows in the summer, while others even have to stop their children from playing outside. Also in today's podcast, a cash-strapped garden centre is set for a £3 million overhaul complete with a larger restaurant in a bid to attract more customers. The owner says he's struggling to make a profit at the “outdated” site in Folkestone. A shopper says she was left “disgusted” after discovering something that looked like an animal's poo in her salad. She had almost finished her lunch, which she had bought from Sainsbury's when she noticed the odd lump.A teenager and a “frightened” seven-year-old girl had to be rescued after they were found a mile offshore on a paddleboard. The RNLI was called out to Minster on Sheppey over the weekend. And in football it was another weekend to remember for Gillingham who are now sitting top of the League Two table. You can hear from boss Mark Bonner on the important the point from their nil-all draw.

In this episode of 5 O'Clock Apron Podcast Claire cooks with RNLI lifeguard Gavin Philpotts. The podcast is recorded in the sand dunes above Sennen Beach, just below the lifeguard hut. With the sun shining bright and the lifeguard's radios in bleeping distance, Claire and Gavin carve a space to cook with a lifeguard rescue board as their work surface. Claire arrives with some mackerel bought that morning in Newlyn and the pair get busy preparing a tabbouleh to go alongside, Gavin also contributes some roasted beets which he brought from home that morning. With the iconic 90's TV series Baywatch as Claire's reference for all things lifeguard, coupled with the countless lifeguards Claire and her family spot on Cornish beaches each summer, meeting and cooking alongside Gavin was a real highlight.
