RNLI Urging Clare Beach Goers To Observe Extreme Caution In The Water This Week

The RNLI is urging Clare people heading to waterways for this week's hot spell to observe extreme caution to prevent the risk of drownings. Crowds have been flocking to this county's coastal areas since the early hours of this morning, as temperatures are expected to exceed 28 degrees. 80 people lost their lives in drowning incidents nationwide last year and authorities are today urging members of the public to swim within their depth at lifeguarded locations to reduce incidents. Those heading to bathing spots for the fine weather are also being urged not to consume alcohol prior to entering the water, always have a means of communication available, to never leave children unsupervised and to seek local knowledge about the area when going for a swim in a new location. Kilrush RNLI Helmsman and PRO Charlie Glynn says that if you see a friend in difficulty in the water, throw them a floatation device and talk to them to keep them calm, but to avoid going in after them, as it can lead to further casualties. Among the locations, thronged with crowds today is Cappagh Pier in Kilrush. During the Pandemic, Imelda Bourke and Hilary O'Donovan co-founded the 'Mermaids & Buoys' group and have been going for daily social swims since. Imelda says there's nothing better in the fine weather. Temperatures are expected to exceed 28 degrees in parts of the county today, while a yellow weather warning for high temperatures remains in effect until Friday morning. These women at Cappagh Pier have been telling there favourite thing to do when the sun comes out.

Visuals: https://getbehindthebillboard.com/episode-111-btb-x-woo-conference-part-2 Recorded live at the WOO Congress 2026 in London just a fortnight ago, this is the second of our special Behind the Billboard episodes - and this time we're on the Global OOH, Innovation & Creativity track. Hugh and Dan….. Well…. Mainly Dan as Hugh had run away to catch a train…. grab short, sharp conversations with a stellar line-up of out-of-home leaders from around the world: Elizabeth McIntyre, CEO of OMA Australia; Ben Milne, CEO APAC at Billups; Nick Bell, UK MD at Billups; Jaime Byrdak, CEO North America at Billups; Jay Young, MD of Grand Visual; Sarah Parkes, Managing Partner, International at Talon; Danielle Austin of Evolve OOH; James Harrison from MPN part of Dubai Holdings; and Simon Wall, CEO of Glynt Group in South Africa. Phew… what a list… what a monster session. Across the episode we explore where OOH is heading now: smarter creative, better data, creative mapping, AI, sustainable infrastructure, mobile media, and the enduring power of a brilliantly simple poster in the right place. There are stories behind work for Google Maps, RNLI's Float To Live, Nike Running and the NYC Marathon, Selleys, Jolt, Out There, Ad Free Zones, IFS.ai and Tractor Media's school-powering billboards. It's a fast-moving global tour of the medium we love: from Australia to Dubai, South Africa to North America, and back to the streets of London. Along the way, our guests pick their favourite billboards, share what excites them about the future, and remind us that when out-of-home is at its best, it's public, useful, unmissable and impossible to ignore. In true Behind the Billboard style, there are a few rabbit holes, plenty of billboard nerdery, and a healthy amount of love for the people pushing the medium forward. Thanks to WOO for having us, to all our brilliant guests for giving up their time in the middle of congress chaos, and to everyone who still believes the humble billboard has plenty of magic left in it. Thanks again to our usual suspects and supporters, and for this one especially the team at WOO.

Pamela Deasy was in her early 40s, working full time and volunteering with the RNLI, when fatigue started dragging her back into bed in the middle of the day. Her bloods were clear. She was told it was perimenopause, then depression. Months passed before a kinesiologist, of all people, pointed at her pancreas — and within days she was in a Cork hospital being told she had a tumour. In this episode, Pamela sits down with Laura to walk through what happened next: the chemotherapy that made her legs turn to jelly, the five and a half weeks of daily radiotherapy that put her on her back in hospital, and the Whipple surgery that took out the head of her pancreas, part of her stomach, part of her intestine, her gallbladder and her spleen. Then the slower, quieter battle that came after — the seven and a half stone she lost, the survivor guilt nobody warned her about, the Survive and Thrive programme that helped her step back into the world, and the small camping toilet she now keeps in her car because that is the honest reality of life after Whipple surgery.Pamela also shares why she co-founded Pancreatic Cancer Ireland, what the signs of pancreatic cancer actually look like, and why "listen to your gut and keep going back" might be the most important sentence you hear this week.

Over the coming weeks, I'll share a few compilations. We'll start with moments that hit me hard. The Factory Next Door might be about manufacturing, but it's also a love letter to people making things in our communities; people who have stories to share. In this compilation, we begin on the Isle of Wight, at the RNLI's factory making inflatable lifeboats (Ep. 23). Who would have thought the name of a boat would leave me choked up? In Ep. 37 when I sat down with Merry from Border Oak to ask why she does what she does, her love for her dad caught me completely off-guard. Finally, we have a clip from Ep. 46. If you want to manufacture things in Britain, your company must show extraordinary resilience – but when I started my chat with Naomi from lingerie company Edge o Beyond, I had no idea about the personal resilience she'd brought to her brand. Breathe Pictures Photography Podcast: Documentaries and Interviews

This week's edition is guest-focused. Paul Berriff OBE, has lived a life few could imagine. A filmmaker and photographer whose work spans more than 180 prime-time documentaries, he has survived a helicopter crash, escaped a sinking ship in a North Sea storm, crawled from the wreckage of a downed aircraft, and lived through the collapse of both towers on September 11 while filming inside the disaster zone. His tape from that day remains one of the most important visual records of the south tower falling. Before film came photography. In the 1960s, Paul made remarkably natural portraits of The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, long before fame turned them into myth. Later, with what he called a "clockwork camera," he moved into observational documentary and eventually built his own production company. Alongside all this, he trained as a firefighter and helped carry out more than 850 RNLI sea rescues. The conversation moved differently from how I imagined it might. Two major stories emerged. One is his account of filming inside the World Trade Center as the towers came down, surviving when the buildings collapsed around him. The other is the story of a rescue by helicopter in brutal conditions, a moment when a second narrow escape became part of his history. I'll also share a little more about the craft of photogravure that we'll be exploring on the new Scottish retreat in June. There's a reminder of this month's assignment, the last one of the year, before we shift our focus to THE ONE in December. From ice baths to open-water swims, cold water therapy has become a wellness trend, but what does the science actually say? To find out, Gabby speaks with one of the world's leading experts in extreme physiology: Professor Mike Tipton. During their conversation, Professor Tipton explains the body's physiological responses to cold water — including the critical cold shock response — and explores the potential mental health benefits of cold water therapy. They discuss breathwork, safety considerations, and the current scientific understanding of the risks and rewards of this increasingly popular practice. Throughout the discussion, Professor Tipton emphasizes the importance of a balanced view, noting the anecdotal nature of many claims and the need for further research. Whether listeners are curious about ice baths, cold plunges, or wild swimming, this episode offers a clear, evidence-based look at why cold water therapy has captured so much attention. By the end, Gabby and Professor Tipton leave listeners with practical insights and thoughtful guidance on how to approach cold water immersion safely and effectively. Professor Tipton has worked at the Universities of London, Surrey, and Portsmouth. He is a visiting professor at King's College London and SETU Waterford in Ireland. From 1996 to 2004, he served as Consultant Head of the Environmental Medicine Division at the Institute of Naval Medicine. He has published over 850 scientific books, papers, reports, and abstracts on drowning, thermoregulation, environmental and occupational physiology, and survival at sea. He was a Trustee/Director of Surf Lifesaving GB and is currently a member of the Council of the RNLI, as well as a Consultant to the RNLI's Medical Director. Maybe her past didn't have to define her future. This year she decided to go all in, chasing the World Record a World Record. Riding 7,732 kilometers around the edge of Britain would take structure, discipline, and belief. And in the process, the effort itself became a form of healing. In this episode, Molly shares the story behind the ride, how she rebuilt her relationship with trying, how her crew carried her through the hardest days, and how raising money for the RNLI gave the effort meaning beyond herself.Topics include:Circumnavigating mainland Britain by bikeSetting a world record and what it really takesHealing through structure and sustained effortLetting go of fear and redefining failureThe difference between a self-supported and supported effortFundraising for the RNLI and riding with purposeAnd yes… the dot-watching catGet your Detours stickersIf you're keen to give Albion cycling clothing a go, use DETOURS15 at checkout for 15% off your order.Follow Molly's adventures on Instagram: @mollyweaver94 Follow Mel on Instagram: @melwwebbFollow Detours on Instagram: @detourscyclingFollow Albion on Instagram: @albion.cyclingIf you love this show please consider pledging your support to sustain producing this show: https://buymeacoffee.com/detourspodcast

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

Some friends went boating in the English Channel, hoping the forecast for stormy weather would change. But the winds rose and the waves became choppy, threatening the safety of their vessel, so they radioed for help to the RNLI (the Royal National Lifeboat Institution). After some tense moments, they spotted their rescuers in the distance and realized with relief they’d soon be safe. As my friend reflected gratefully afterward, “Whether or not people ignore the rules of the sea, the RNLI still comes to the rescue.” As he recounted the story, I thought about how Jesus leads God’s search-and-rescue mission. He came to Earth to become a man, living as one of us. Through His death and resurrection, He provided us with a rescue plan when our sin and disobedience separated us from God. This truth is emphasized by Paul, when writing to the church at Galatia: “The Lord Jesus Christ . . . gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age” (Galatians 1:4). Paul reminded the Galatians of the gift of new life they received through Jesus’s death so that they would honor God day by day. Jesus, our rescuer, willingly died to save us from being lost. Because He did, we have life in the kingdom of God, and in gratitude we can share the life-saving news with those in our community.
