In this episode, Dr. Karen Brodman, a seasoned gynecologist, discusses the complexities of menopause, hormone therapy, and the importance of addressing women's health issues. She emphasizes the need for personalized care and the impact of lifestyle changes on menopause symptoms. From her own personal journey through menopause, Barb has developed a program that is progressive. It's not a meal plan, it's not a training plan. After years managing corporate business transformations, I left that world to follow my true passion: helping women transform their health and confidence.Over a decade ago, menopause nearly broke me. I endured 32 unrecognised symptoms—crippling brain fog, relentless hot flushes, anxiety, unexpected weight gain and exhaustion. I was misdiagnosed repeatedly and sent on a frustrating and expensive wild goose chase that drained me emotionally and financially. I felt confused, overwhelmed, and completely alone. But from that chaos, I found clarity and purpose. I turned my struggle into strength and built a program to support women just like me. My 4-week program is designed to help women lose weight, keep it off, and feel like themselves again—without the fads, fluff, or false promises.I also created the FREE Menopause Assistant—a smart, AI-powered tool built specifically for Australian women. It's grounded in science, follows national menopause guidelines, and only includes TGA-approved products. Menopause is something that every woman will have to contend with - and nowadays, women spend 40% or more of their lives following the transition. You'd think that something that's so common would be better understood. Unfortunately, there are still an enormous number of misconceptions about menopause - what it is, what to expect, how to treat it and more.Today's guest is Ingrid Harm-Ernandes, a physical therapist with more than 40 years of clinical experience, here to dispel some of those misconceptions and help women have a more comfortable, confident journey through menopause and beyond. She's currently co-director and mentor for the Women's Health Physical Therapy Residency Program at Duke University and a member of the Medical Advisory Committee of the National Menopause Foundation. In this episode, Tracey and Kelsey discuss these three anonymous questions:1) I'm a woman who has no problem having an orgasm on her own, but it happens rarely with my partner. I've told him how I want to be stimulated, but sex always feels like something that's done to satisfy his needs and mine are an afterthought. He knows I don't orgasm through intercourse, but still asks me every single time if I have. When I say no, he begrudgingly gives me oral sex or uses his fingers, but it's half-hearted because he's had his orgasm. I'm feeling increasingly resentful. How do I tackle this?2) My wife and I are in our late 60s, fit and healthy, and have been happily married for 40 years. Sex has always been a small part of our marriage, but it was adventurous and good. Since menopause, which she seemed to sail through, both sex and intimacy have disappeared. We talk about it now and then, but nothing happens. I don't necessarily want penetrative sex, I just miss holding her and showing her I love her rather than just saying it. I feel lonely.3) I'm a straight woman in my 30s and recently met an amazing guy. I ended it because of his smell. He doesn't smell bad, just like he has a different chemistry to me. My gut said not to go there. Am I right to pay attention to this? Is it something that you can work with or get past, and how?To have Tracey and Kelsey discuss YOUR secret sex question, enter it anonymously at https://bit.ly/3C4AelUWant a copy of Tracey's book, Great Sex Starts at 50? Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Anonymous: Hi Dr Cabral! I'm convinced I have lipedema. I haven't been to the Dr to confirm yet. My torso, arms & legs all feel like I have grainy/pebbly texture beneath the skin. My knees have a weird “fat pad” on the side. I listened to another show where you mentioned lipedema, & I thought you said you have been able to help people reverse it. All of my research says it's incurable, but can manage it and calm swelling and pain, but the nodular fat will not go away without lipo. My questions are: are you familiar with any other scenario where texture I feel on myself as I described is normal? Or is that pebbly feeling always lipedema? Have you actually seen people get rid of the nodular lipedema fat & heal completely? Or just reduce swelling, pain & normal fat?Diet advice for this condition? Thanks Anonymous: Dr C! Thank you for all you do! I am a 52 yr old post menopausal female, who is pretty healthy, dove into your supplements and detox about 1 yr now. Recently I had normal labs taken by my MD with the results of my alanine aminotransferase (SGPT), serum slighty elevated from last year (range 10-34, mine was 53, last year it was 35). Negative for hepatitis, not a drinker, cholesterol is good, weigh 110 at 5'2, Ultrasound also showed a healthy liver...could it be certain supplements? Thanks in advance! PS have done the 7 day detox 3x now and will do again in May Anonymous: Hey Dr Cabral....Love listening to you daily! Question ... how important is taking creatine if you are in menopause? Want to maintain healthy muscles whiles strength training but not really a fan about how I hear it may bloat you. Thanks for all you do! Anonymous: I recently completed my 2nd DNAge test, included in my HPH membership. I was shocked to receive the results indicating that based on my methylation value, l aged an additional 6 years in 8 months! I basically follow Dr. Cabral's lifestyle recommendations to the letter. I eat a primarily Mediterranean diet, detox 4 times a year, sauna, resistance and cardio train, prioritize sleep, PEMF mat, minimal to no alcohol, and practice meditation and mindfulness. Additionally, I do the Big 5 four times per year. The only 2 things I have changed in the time between tests is that I have eliminated a very low dose of estrogen and progesterone that I was prescribed for post menopausal symptoms and I have added cold plunge 3 times per week. I am 63 years old. Please advise. Emily: My partner 23 (M) has recently started experiencing debilitating anxiety. This is not normal for him and he has not experienced anxiety like this before or at all. He was sick this last month with a 104 degree fever and for a few weeks was experiencing skin sensitivity in certain spots. What would you recommend in helping navigate this new anxiety and help him start feeling “normal” again. Kay: Hi Dr. Cabral, Thanks so much for your great podcasts- I look forward to them every week. My question is: what are your thoughts on the use of testosterone to help post-menopausal women maintain muscle mass and bone health as well as hypoactive sexual desire disorder? My physician is recommending a small amount of a compounded formulation of testosterone to be injected in the subcutaneous skin layer every 10 days. Are there any less invasive and more natural ways to achieve the same benefits that you would recommend? I have heard that testosterone is a controlled substance and I am wondering if it could potentially cause side effects such as hair loss on the head and hair growth in unwanted areas. Thank you. If you're curious to explore natural approaches to support menopause health symptoms today's episode is for you. Our guest, Melinda McDougall, is a registered Medical Herbalist specialising in women's health and menopause. She combines the latest scientific research into botanical medicines with the traditional knowledge women have used for centuries to manage their health.Melinda shares a treasure trove of herbal information about how to improve sleep and brain function, reduce stress, and help your body to feel better, as well as how herbal medicine supported her own healing process with erratic and incredibly heavy cycles in the years running up to menopause. One of my favourite parts was when Melinda described how our brains get totally re-shaped and remolded during menopause, as we wake up from the fog of estrogen people-pleasing hormone, drop into a different way of seeing the world, and become less inclined to put everyone else first. We explore:A powerful ayurvedic herb that helps your body adapt to stress and is very supportive for insomnia and sleep disturbances, as well as herbal medicine for night sweats and hot flushes. A variety of useful herbs for mental focus and brain function, if you're experiencing brain fog, or feel like your brain isn't working like it used to, as well as herbs to support you through the intense rage that we can experience during menopause,How to use herbal medicine as a viable alternative to HRT or as a way to support your body alongside HRT, like adaptogenic herbs, and herbs that support gut and liver health and can help to reduce side effects like headaches, weight gain and breakthrough bleeding. ---Order our menopause book - Wise Power: Discover the Liberating Power of Menopause to Awaken Authority, Purpose and Belonging here: https://www.wisepowerbook.com---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. The number of women who are postmenopausal is increasing every year. By 2030, it's estimated that over a billion women around the world will be postmenopausal. That's exactly why in this video I'm going to be talking about menopause—both perimenopause and postmenopause. I believe this topic deserves way more attention, and I want to be part of educating women and being an advocate during the menopause transition, helping them make informed decisions for their health now and into the future. I'm Dr. Doni, host of How Humans Heal and Women's Health expert. I've been helping women with their health, including menopausal symptoms, for over 25 years. I recently completed two additional trainings in helping women through menopause, including a menopause boot camp taught by my mentor and instructor in Women's Health, Dr. Tori Hudson. I want to share information that should be within your reach to help you become better advocates for yourself and make informed decisions going forward. There's so much I want to teach you about menopause—more than I can cover in this one video. Today, I want to talk about the common symptoms and health issues for women to start thinking about and noticing in your bodies so you can understand the experience of menopause for yourself. Ep 73: In today's episode, we're diving deep into menopause — what it actually is, what's really happening in your body, and why the old advice of "eat less, move more" just doesn't cut it anymore. We unpack the most common symptoms women experience during perimenopause and postmenopause, and how changes in blood glucose regulation play a major role in how you feel day to day.We also talk about why adrenal health matters more than ever, the role of hormone replacement therapy, and how strategic walking, strength training, and smarter eating can completely shift your body composition — and your quality of life — after 40.If you've been feeling frustrated, exhausted, or confused about your body lately, this episode will empower you with the real science (and real solutions) you deserve.Time Stamps: (0:00) Introduction(2:11) Hardened Heart(14:17) What Happens During Pre & Post Menopause(18:43) Common Symptoms (21:16) Why Eat Less, Move More No Longer Works(25:29) Blood Glucose Spikes(28:47) Hormone Replacement Therapy(32:41) Adrenals and Menopause(34:03) Lowering Glucose Spikes(37:44) Walking & Weight Lifting(42:15) Body Composition Post Menopause JOIN our FREE PRIVATE FACEBOOK COMMUNITYSubmit your questions HEREGrey Space Podcast YouTubeGrey Space Podcast InstagramGrey Space Podcast TiktokFollow Coryn on Instagram and TikTok Follow Crysanne on Instagram *Disclaimer*Grey Space Podcast offers health, fitness, and nutritional information for educational purposes. Menopause Insights from a Nurse Coach-Suzanne Greiner BSN, RN, NC-BC Highlights“Yes, I'm going through perimenopause. And what do I want my perimenopause story to look like? Do I want to be a victim to going through this?Or do I want to be that victor? I went through perimenopause, and I was able to do this, and I was able to find solutions for my own health. And I think the kicker for me at that point in my perimenopausal journey was, I want this to be that when I'm 85 years old, and I look back on my life, this is the point that I chose for longevity of my life, versus a quick fix.So, every decision past, that point in time was, is this going to be helping my 85-year-old body to hike a mountain, or is it going to set me back? So those are the kinds of decisions of working with my future self. What does my future self-want me to do at this moment?” ~Suzanne Greiner BSN, RN, NC-BCAh-Ha MomentsIn mid-life, if you're lucky, you WILL go through the stages of menopause- perimenopause, menopause and post menopauseYou have choices and a voice as it relates to your health- and ALL aspects of your lifeImagine the life you want to life at 85 years old- ask yourself- is this a decision that will support me when I get to be 85?Let Them = Let Me…. When we enter the autumn of our menstruation years in our 40s and start to experience what many call perimenopause, we can easily think we should keep pushing through even though our bodies, minds and emotional landscape are transforming profoundly. (Alexandra and Sjanie, the co-founders or Red School call this phase the Quickening, or the autumn of our menstruating years). Our guest today specialises in helping women in midlife recover from burnout so they can rise stronger and thrive longer. Jolinda Johnson is the author of Resilience: 10 Ways to Recover from Burnout and Exhaustion, and works as a Life and Health Coach, as well as a Menopause Coaching Specialist. In today's conversation we explore the four phases of burnout; from feeling wired and tired, to health challenges to full-on exhaustion, all the way to an official burn out diagnosis and major life changes. Jolinda explains how tracking these phases offer us many opportunities for course correction before we find ourselves flat on our back. So this one is for you especially if you're in perimenopause, but it relevant to anyone experiencing burnout in any life phase. We explore:Jolinda's definition of burnout, which is chronic stress without recovery, is characterised by exhaustion, cynicism, and decreased capacity for your life roles. What menstrual cycles changes, as well as other health symptoms can show us about our current levels of burnout. Why we need to set better boundaries with ourselves, and how to do it. ---Receive our free video training: Love Your Cycle, Discover the Power of Menstrual Cycle Awareness to Revolutionise Your Life - www.redschool.net/love---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. When Amita Sharma hit her 40s, her body started betraying her—crippling fatigue, brain fog, and relentless hot flashes—but doctors told her she was "fine." Frustrated and desperate for answers, she turned to holistic medicine, unknowingly setting herself on a path to revolutionize women's health. Amita shares her eye-opening journey through perimenopause, the shocking gaps in medical knowledge, and how she's building a platform to give women affordable access to holistic care. If you've ever felt dismissed by doctors or struggled to make sense of your changing body, this episode is a must-listen. Guest Bio Amita is co-founder of NourishDoc, a global holistic wellness platform for women to manage their hormone transition from PMS to Postmenopause. Inspired by her perimenopausal journey and working in the high tech world, she felt unsupported and a need to bring the taboo topic of perimenopause at the workplace for an open discussion. In her experience of going through perimenopause, keeping it a secret added more stress to the perimenopause state. She is on a mission to make this taboo topic be part of DEI, health equity at work for women in their 40's who feel that they cannot discuss this with HR or their colleagues.Turning 40 and getting dismissed by doctorsFor years, Amita Sharma was a high-achieving professional balancing a demanding career in the tech industry with the responsibilities of motherhood. But as she entered her 40s, her body started sending distress signals—chronic fatigue, brain fog, erratic cycles, and mood swings—yet every doctor she saw insisted she was "normal." Frustrated and exhausted, Amita took matters into her own hands, diving deep into holistic medicine, Ayurveda, and functional health. What started as a personal journey to reclaim her vitality soon transformed into a mission to educate and empower other women. Now, through her platform, NourishDoc, Amita is revolutionizing access to credible, affordable, holistic health solutions for perimenopause and beyond. In This Episode, We Cover:
Women collectively “Catch Up” to men in their risk by age 60, largely because of the loss of estrogen. Based on studies from the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session (April 2024) and the American Heart Association (2013, 2023). Changes in blood pressure, cholesterol, and visceral belly fat all seem to be a part of the menopause transition for many women. Women spend 40% or more of their lives post-menopause, that's a health risk if left unchecked. Women who have an early menopause, have even more time in their lives in post menopause. Many women are advised or think about weight loss, stress reduction. Very few women think about heart health risk and muscle loss. Yet, to define cardiovascular fitness is to talk about VO2 max. VO2 max measures oxygen consumption capacity or liters of oxygen the body consumes during exercise, expressed in ml/kg/min. For every 1 liter of oxygen consumed roughly 5 kcals are burned. Two components of VO2: The delivery of oxygen The extraction of oxygen from the tissues Heart health CAN decline rapidly after menopause… All statistics are based on historically what's been true… and we sometimes forget that if we choose not to participate in the same habits of past generations we don't have to get the same results. If you lose muscle, you lose VO2. If you lose VO2, you die tired, younger, sicker and fatter. Replacing the overemphasis on cardiovascular exercise which seems to be the first go-to for women, trainers, and physicians alike, with an equal emphasis on muscle is the first step. BUT.. that negates the fact that.. muscle-building exercise improves blood sugar levels, increase strength, stamina, power to inspire and motivate greater activity Training Plan to Avoid Risk of Heart Disease Post Menopause We also train wrong for women in midlife. Highs and lows are best for women midlife. Moderate-intensity exercise, a go-to for many women since the 80s, is actually an energy drain. Instead of reducing stress, it spikes cortisol, making fat loss and recovery harder. High intensity to toleration during perimenopause, not all women tolerate when hormones are doing the greatest fluctuation. There's a dance between the muscle, heart, bone benefits and the adrenals/cortisol response that has to be done. Post menopause hormones have stabilized and a woman is likely to tolerate more high intensity- not longer but with greater frequency from say 2 times a week to up to 4. This will help overcome the loss of fast twitch muscle fibers lost more quickly with age and without fast or powerful movements. The significant boost of growth hormone and testosterone that occurs with true high intensity exercise provides mitigation of cortisol. Let's review this again. Moderate exercise can occur for 3 reasons: Intentionally you unknowingly are trying to hit moderate level exercise You attend boot camp type classes that never allow complete recovery. They feel hard and high intensity for long periods of time, but in actuality, you're not reaching your peak capacity. You start out going at a low level but you either push it because you feel good or you go longer because it feels good, both result in a cardiac drift into the “no benefits zone” of moderate intensity exercise. What's the answer? Your midlife workout formula should look like this: 80% Low Intensity (walking, recovery movement)

She challenges the idea that postmenopause is all about decline, instead seeing it as a transition into a new, thriving chapter.Stella shares some of the amazing stories of women she researched as part of her doctorate on post menopause, showing just how varied the experience can be—some women struggle, some breeze through, and most land somewhere in between. But society tends to focus on fear and loss, making ageing seem like something to dread. Instead, she encourages us to lean into change rather than fight it. Menopause can be tough, sure, but it's also a chance for growth, renewal, and empowerment. Our chat is a powerful reminder that menopause isn't the end—it's just the next phase of an ever-evolving life. There's a lot of talk about HRT and menopause right now—some of it incredibly helpful, but some of it creating confusion and even pressure. For years, HRT was viewed with skepticism, but now the conversation has swung the other way, making many women feel like they should take it—or risk missing out on essential health benefits. So, what's the truth? Should every woman take HRT? And if you're already on it, how can you make sure you're getting the most out of it before increasing doses or adding extra hormones like testosterone? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Claire Phipps, a menopause specialist and holistic doctor, to have a calm, practical, and balanced discussion about HRT. We cover: The real benefits of HRT—and when it might not be necessary Why menopause care should be about more than just medication How gut health, inflammation, weight management, and stress play a key role in midlife wellbeing Why one size fits all approaches don't work—and what to consider instead Whether you're in perimenopause, postmenopause, or simply want to be informed for the future, this episode will help you cut through the noise and find an approach that works for you. When we think about ageing well, we usually focus on eating right, staying active, and keeping up good habits. But what we don't always consider is how much our emotional health affects our physical health and therefore how well we age.The truth is, in today's fast-paced world, we have become increasingly disconnected from each other, from nature and from ourselves. This disconnect touches every aspect of our lives, affecting how we relate to one another, how we interact with our environment, and even how we care for ourselves. So if we want to make the most of our next chapter and live a happy healthy life, we need to make sure these vital connections are plugged in and thriving.Connection is the 'C' in my EMBRACE formula in my book LIFE AFTER MENOPAUSE. The book comes with a free downloadable workbook to help you implement your own action plan for your best life after menopause!Learn more here; https://happyhormonesforlife.com/life-after-menopause

We explore:The different cycles that Prune is tracking now post-menopause, and how our life force moves into different expressions of wisdom once we're no longer being held in monthly cycles. Dr. Sharon Malone's book is titled "Grown Woman Talk, Your Guide to Getting Healthy and Staying Healthy." This is a book isn't filled with stats, charts and graphs. It's a book about taking care of oneself and getting support from family, friends and doctors that take the time to recognize you, your symptoms and guide you in the correct direction until you get the answers that you need.Bertha, Dr. Malone's mother, was born in 1914 in rural Alabama. Sadly Bertha died when Dr. Malone, her youngest daughter, was twelve. Out of necessity, Bertha and close relatives had to self diagnose any and all illnesses. There wasn't really any medical services nearby. It was all based on collective knowledge from family members and maybe a midwife who could help out. It was her family, a few things in a medicine cabinet, home remedies, etc that worked when one of her children was sick. "There was so much of an "ancestral collective of knowledge" that Bertha had access to, that we don't have today," reflects Malone. My guest's mother, Bertha lost her mother when she was 14 and Bertha and her sixteen year old sister had three younger siblings to raise. It wasn't an easy childhood, but it didn't stop Bertha for instilling such a wealth knowledge in her own children. I highly recommend you read "Grown Woman Talk," to get the full impact of her mother's life and Dr. Malone's philosophies regarding health.Dr. Malone explains, "medicine is not the answer for everything, but there is also a place and time for it. Don't run to the doctor every time there's a sniffle." "She'd like to see the pendulum come back to the middle," regarding the health field.Bertha was a maid in officers quarters of the near by Military base because she had to work. Plus Bertha took care of the work around the house including the cooking, cleaning, etc.Bertha was confident and calm but there are so many stories that Dr. Malone doesn't know about. In the early 20th century Bertha was very practical and conscientious especially when it came to diet, health and "necessities. Dr. Malone lovingly shares stories of her mother, her work ethic and the moral grounding and how important it was. "I still hear her voice in my head. When I do things I either think of them as either this will make my mother proud or my mother would not be pleased with this particularly behavior."Dr. Malone only had twelve formative years with her mother, but she says "I learned enough about character and what was and wasn't important in life in that short time. Don't ever doubt the the value and importance of mothers and the effect they have on their children. In those few years, I had enough to be really influenced by her about what kind of woman i wanted to be and what kind of mother I wanted to be." Allison Kalsched a women's fitness specialist is one of the Co-Founders of NYMMNJ. She was so excited to share the "significance of the community of women" that came together to not only organize this first ever symposium but the respected presenters and the 250 women that came from near and far to this event.Allison has been working exclusively with women for about ten years on their fitness and health journey. "The story hasn't changed much, remarks Kalsched, since Dr. Malone's mother was born in the early part of the twentieth century, and everything she (Bertha) learned about women's health was through a symposium of women-the benefits of being surrounded by women and how we can help one another." NYMMNJ was put together by a group of women out of the necessity of getting the help they need for their midlife health and wellbeing. Most of these women had come to Allison for training and they've been through all life changes together.Allison concurs that women some times make things too complicated and tend to put our well being on the back burner. As women age we need to work on our bodies differently than when we were younger. Taking the time to see a doctor is important, but "we have to think about the woman's body as much more complicated and much more holistic." Fifty percent of the women who walk in Allison's door complain of frozen shoulder or plantar fasciitis, they are the most common complaints. Allison believes that mainly these issues of inflammation in joints are reactions to changes in our hormones " it's all connected." NOT YOUR MOTHER'S MENOPAUSE NJ:Not Your Mother's Menopause NJ is the creation of three Maplewood/South Orange based women who recognized a need for an event such as this. April L McKenzie started the popular Facebook group Perimenopause — It's for Real (now renamed Not Your Mother's Menopause NJ) when she became increasingly frustrated at her own personal experience with finding help for her perimenopausal symptoms. Since the group's founding in 2021, almost 800 women have shared their knowledge, resources and experiences. She has just been voted in as a board member of Let's Talk Menopause, a national nonprofit, where she will grow her involvement in women's health advocacy and menopause awareness.Stacey Futterman Tauriello is the founder of 5 Point Physical Therapy and a pelvic health specialist. After 28 years practicing pelvic health, Stacey (and her patients) were going through hormonal changes that affected their lifestyle in many ways. Allison Kalschedis a women's fitness specialist who has worked in the Maplewood area for over 10 years. As she and her clients have aged together, she became increasingly interested in how the menopause transition affects every system in a woman's body. She is currently studying to become a certified menopause coach. The three of us have come together to help our community forge a path through the information overload about the menopause transition. This event took place for the very first time on January 12, 2025! More information coming regarding a video of the day long event with all the presenters including Dr. Sharon Malone.DR.
