Today's Gospel instalment : 01/19/2025Sermon Title: Absent from the king's table Text: 1 Samul 201. The running battles between David and Saul continued, but for a gospel testimony.2. And Jonathan, the son of Saul the king of Israel also comes into the mix of the gospel testimony.3. Many for a lack of a gospel hermeneutic will seek to find if Saul and Jonathan were saved and in the process lose sight of what God was preaching.4. Saul, Jonathan and David were all gospel testimonies that wore different hats of the gospel.5. Since there is no single person who could fulfill all the gospel types, in the OT the testimonies were spread out among different people. And so you will see Saul carrying more than one type as God the Father and of the Law. 6. And we shall see this layering too with Jonathan and his relationship with David, which the untaught have horribly misconstrued to be a gay relationship with David. 7. But I did not learn Christ that way, Jonathan and David represent a developing gospel testimony that will continue to unfold in their story.8. So, we will explore the details. And typology is very fluid, but it must be GROUNDED IN NEW TESTAMENT GOSPEL TESTIMONY. IT MUST BE SUPPORTED WITH TRUTH AND REASON OF THE NEW TESTAMENT.And this is FREE!

Welcome back! On this episode we were joined by Paul Brace and Colin Samul. We discussed the strange Bledsoe case where Chris Bledsoe had several encounters with unknown entities. During his encounters, Chris was given an all too familiar message from the entities and was healed of physical ailments. Because of his encounters, Chris had dealings with the government and received backlash from his church. Chris's story has caused a lot of controversy and has created turmoil in his personal life. Chris continues to have encounters to this day with these strange beings. Paul and Colin walk us through his story and explain the similarities between not only his experiences, but so many others. They shed some light on the message that these entities bring and how it is all tied to the Bible and the gods of old. We want to thank Paul and Colin for coming on and sharing their outstanding knowledge with us and all of you! We enjoyed our conversation with them, learned a lot and look forward to doing more with them in the future! David taler ud fra: 2. Samul 9: 1-11 Es. 55: 1
Samul nori represents a modern percussion genre of four things - the changgo, buk, k'kwaenggwari , and ching. Originally known as p'ungmul and nongak this genre was transformed as dynamic as it entered concert spaces. Comprised of karak that dynamically shift weight and feel, this genre represents the balance of Yin and Yang and alignments with hohŭp, or the breath. Katherine In-Young Lee investigates the rhythmic form of Yŏngnam nongak and how a sectional rhythmic form might invite global encounters, breaking down cultural barriers, and performing a “unification of difference” that is central to peace. The episode features recordings from the Minnesota-based Shinparam.
"Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness…In his days the righteous will flourish, prosperity will abound till the moon is no more…May grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway” (Psalm 72:1,7,16). When Israel first asked for a king as recorded in 1 Samul 8, God warned her it would be a disaster. Samuel told Israel a human king would fleece her and the land. He would not bring shalom but establish an economy rooted in the machinery of warfare. This need for power would destroy humanity and the earth. Israel did not heed the warning. Saul was that kind of king; his reign dominated by war with an economy of destruction. Not much has changed. With an unsatiable hunger for more and for cheaper stuff, the worker and the earth are both defrauded. Since the world of power hides behind political bureaucrats and the machinery of the supply and demand economy behind international conglomerates, many feel powerless to initiate any change. And our imaginations are too numbed by mindless entertainment to dream any alternatives. Yet, during the reigns of David and Solomon battles ended and weapons were turned into tools of agriculture and industry. In response, Israel's worship leaders began dreaming about 'shalom'. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit the elements of shalom began to crystallize and put to music in Psalm 72. Somewhere along the way, the whole nation began to sing these words. A quick glance at our song selections, suggests that little of this vision has penetrated our spiritual imaginations. Our view of salvation tends to be limited to the individual soul. The New Testament suggests rather strongly that the shalom of this psalm is at the heart of the Kingdom of God as Jesus preached and practised it. If we profess to be followers of Jesus, we will desire to follow in his footsteps. Thus, this psalm will need to be allowed to penetrate and guide our prayers and worship. It is first and foremost a prayer for the king to be endowed by God with God's justice and righteousness. (We do well to offer this same prayer for our political leaders). When the king rules with justice the primary beneficiary is not himself or his close associates, nor the wealthy. No, it is the afflicted that benefit. Do you recall that Jesus continually hung out with the afflicted, healing their maladies? This irritated the powerful. Under a just king's rule, the afflicted would be cared for and the land and its people would flourish. Grain would even sway on the hilltops. Its notoriously difficult to get crops to grow on the hill tops because water doesn't stay up there, it flows down before the plants can get enough of it. Finally, when the king leads with justice, his reign and power will extend to the ends of the earth. All will benefit when God answers this prayer. As much as the Bible describes how wealthy Israel became during the reigns of David and Solomon, the wealth did not last nor bring shalom for all. In 2 Kings 2:1-12, David speaks his last words to Solomon. On the one hand David tells his son to follow the Lord, on the other, he encourages his son to give David's remaining enemies their due reward, vengeance. For us, the Psalm anticipates the return of Christ when He will reign supreme, and His justice will flourish in all of creation. No human king will ever be able to accomplish this grand vision. So, until that time this psalm needs to fill our imaginations. It needs to inspire our worship and prayers. When it informs our worship, it will also inform how we live. If our lives are not lived with a view to this vision, our worship is meaningless, empty, useless (see Isaiah 58).
While government leaders debate laws about human life, some U.S. leaders and military pilots wonder if they've seen extraterrestrial ships.

April 22, 2021 - Samul nori, the South Korean percussion genre with powerful rhythmic forms, has reached international popularity. First created in Seoul in 1978 by a quartet of musicians, samul nori (which translates simply into "four things play") is a neo-traditional musical repertory that has been performed on many international stages by professional ensembles and amateur musical enthusiasts around the world. Professor Katherine In-Young Lee explores the history and development of samul nori and its importance as a sonic and cultural symbol of South Korea. In this episode we visit some of the cenotes in Mexico. A Cenote is a natural pit or sinkhole. They are created when there is a collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater. Cenote Zací (Cenote Zaci) was a 10 minute walk from our hotel. This cenote is only half covered which allows tons of sunlight in. We even took turns diving off of a cliff into the water! We also visited the "Blue Cave" Cenote Xkeken (meaning "pig" in Mayan) and Cenote Samulá (Cenote Samula). They share a parking area and have passes that can be combined together. Back in the city center of Valladolid we hung out at Parque Principal Francisco Canton Rosado. We enjoyed delicious marquesitas, sat in the 2 seater benches, and enjoyed the view of the Church of Saint Servatius (Iglesia de San Servacio). We also saw the fountain of “La Mestiza” (mixed race woman). Then we figured out a way to visit Chichen Itza when it was not too busy in order to have this amazing ancient city almost completely to ourselves before the large crowds came in. Recently The Jerusalem Post published an article containing a claim that the governments of Israel and the United States are in regular contact with a "Galactic Federation" of extra terrestrials. On this episode we're asking (and answering) the question raised by the 2020 U.S. Military disclosures about UFO / UAP encounters: What if, in addition to all the weirdness already, 2020 gives us confirmation of extraterrestrial technology? Think that is outlandish? Give this New York Times article a read and pay special attention to Marco Rubio's comments: "No Longer in Shadows, Pentagon's U.F.O. Unit Will Make Some Findings Public: For over a decade, the program, now tucked inside the Office of Naval Intelligence, has discussed mysterious events in classified briefings." The name of the group is deceptively simple: Samul (“four objects”) + Nori (“folk entertainment”) = SamulNori. Nathan Hesselink‘s new book traces the transformations of this complex contemporary Korean drumming ensemble from its first concert in a cramped Seoul basement in 1978 through the 1990s, by which time they had become a prominent media presence in Korea and abroad. SamulNori: Contemporary Korean Drumming and the Rebirth of Itinerant Performance Culture (University of Chicago Press, 2012) introduces readers and listeners to the wider history of Korean percussion music. Hesselink locates the roots of SamulNori in itinerant performance culture in Korea, focusing in particular on the namsadang wandering minstrels and their acrobatics, puppetry, and other performing arts in what reads as a wonderful contribution to the broader history of movement and itinerancy in world history. (Fans of the film The King and the Clown [Wang ui namja, 2005] will recognize this category of namsadang performers!) A CD is included with the book, allowing readers to listen in on some of the major SamulNori works in Hesselink’s account. (My particular favorites were the songs produced by the collaboration between SamulNori and the Euro-American jazz quartet Red Sun.) Readers who are already acquainted with traditional Korean percussion will find much of interest in this history, and others will find a new world of music to explore. Enjoy!
