Paul Mann is the founder of Water Champions, an engineering and design firm specializing in the efficient and smart use of water. He joins Ted Flanigan to discuss how this came about, and what each of us can do to be water smart.During Covid, Paul and his wife experienced California drought and fires, and began to realize the enormous importance of water at home and worldwide. Fully half of the Earth's population lives in water-stressed areas, and given population growth, demand for water will grow by 20 - 30%. "Water shortage is imminent."Paul and Jenna Mann's story began at home, with an outdoor shower next to their hot tub. They rigged a system such that the shower's water came from captured rainwater, harvested in a large tank. The shower's drain was channeled into their three-level garden beds. These and other measures -- including leak detection systems and irrigation controllers -- cut their water use by a shocking 60 - 70%.They found that new technologies, like recirculating water shower systems, cut water and energy use while delivering more fulfilling showers. These systems collect and reuse water, they clean it, reheat it, and disinfect it with UV. Their discovery with basic practices and new technologies resulted with them wanting to share their experiences, pamphleting their neighbors, telling them about their success. This launched Water Champions.Today Water Champions provides consulting service for homes and businesses to help them use water efficiently... from the water source to its reuse, ultimately supporting end-uses such as drought-tolerant landscaping and permaculture. Paul and Jenna also created the Renova Academy which trains architects, designers, landscapers, homeowners, and others online. One need not give up the pool, Paul explained. Through smart water use, Water Champions helps people maintain quality lifestyles through a portfolio of water solutions.
Thomas Paul Mann is the cofounder of Raycast. I use Raycast every day as a replacement for Spotlight. For me, shortcuts are the most useful feature. I put curl requests I commonly use as well as random things like email snippets. It's a massive time saver and really well built.Raycast is a genuinely well built product so Thomas talks quality, getting feedback and how they ship features. We also talk about their unique YC experience and how they've been building AI into Raycast. This episode is brought to you by WorkOS. 31. Paul Mann: Turbo Cancer and Ivermectin Episode Description US intelligence analyst Paul Mann discusses his sudden onset of turbo cancer after taking his Covid-19 shot. He details his path to recovery, including taking Ivermectin. We talk about the first International Review Board approved and FLCCC promoted Ivermectin study for cancer patients presently being conducted. We also discuss why many vax-injured people can't face the reality of their injuries, and how people should respond if they are ever faced with coercive mandates again. To secure his federal job, Paul decided to take the Covid-19 shots after President Biden's mandates went into effect. Seven months later, in June 2022, Paul was diagnosed with stage-4 prostate cancer and began a very painful and bleak medical journey. After many rounds of chemo and radiation treatment, he was told there was no hope and was at one point given 3 weeks to live. Through a friend and Feds For Freedom member, Paul was put in touch with Dr. Kathleen Ruddy, a retired cancer doctor. At first, Dr. Ruddy merely provided moral support, but asked if he would consider using Ivermectin, as she had been researching its anti-cancer properties. After a couple months of utilizing Ivermectin, a few other alternative remedies, and changing his diet, Paul was in remission and remains so a year later. ANDY CROWE ● BILL YATES ● NICK WALKER ● DAVID GIBSON NICK WALKER: Welcome to Manage This, the podcast by project managers for project managers. It's a chance for us to get together every couple of weeks and have a conversation about what matters to you as a professional project manager. We'll cover subjects such as project management certification, doing the job of project management, and get inside the brains of some of the leaders in the industry and hear their stories. I'm your host, Nick Walker. And with me are our resident experts, Andy Crowe and Bill Yates. They are project managers who mentor other project managers and those working toward that title. Andy and Bill, a lot to look forward to today. Andy, we've had some amazing guests lately. ANDY CROWE: We really have. And I think today's going to continue that trend, Nick. We're excited to have Dave Gibson in the studio. NICK WALKER: Well, let's get right to our guest. I know we've got a lot to cover. David Gibson is the Vice President and Division Manager of McKean Defense Group in Washington, D.C. He guides, mentors, coaches, and develops program managers. His experience includes strategic planning, customer engagement, and business development, and much more. Among other projects, he was the program manager for the Pentagon's MRAP, M-R-A-P, the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected military vehicle. David, welcome to Manage This. DAVID GIBSON: Thank you. I'm glad to be here. NICK WALKER: We really are anxious to talk with you about this program that you were involved in. And even though it's been a while, it's such an involved program. It was a major part of your life; wasn't it. DAVID GIBSON: It was. It was a wonderful seven years. It was a hard seven years. But it was very rewarding, probably the highlight of a career. NICK WALKER: It's nice to see that you've come out on the other side intact. DAVID GIBSON: Thank you, thank you. NICK WALKER: So David, what was your role in this project, your specific portion? DAVID GIBSON: Yeah, so on a program like this, you know, obviously the government has the lead role; right? And the government, it's an inherently governmental contract. They're managing it. But I was on a team that was sort of a staff augmentation. There's areas we can help; there's areas where we can't help. You know, we can't commit the government to dollars. You know, so while I'm talking about the program today from an overall perspective, my role was on the contractor side, in support of the government's efforts. And when I started initially on the program, I was a project officer. I came up through the ranks. I became the deputy program manager and then eventually the program manager. I sat in the program manager, on the contractor side, seat for about five years of the seven. Or actually it was a little bit less than that. It was probably closer to four. And then on the government side, you know, the first government program manager was a gentleman named Paul Mann. Second one was Dave Hansen. And Dave and I came into the program manager, respective program manager positions about the same time. He was a couple months after I was. Such a rewarding experience to work with Dave. Dave was a huge inspiration to me. And, you know, we've continued to keep in touch. We're off doing our own things now. He's managing another Marine Corps program. I'm back working with the Navy at McKean Defense. And it's – but, you know, it's mutually supportive. NICK WALKER: Tell us a little bit about how this all started. Give us a little background. DAVID GIBSON: Okay. So if you remember back in 2006, that timeframe, U.S. forces were in Iraq and Afghanistan. And we would see on the nightly news the Humvees that were being destroyed by IEDs, and the service members that were dying or being disfigured because of it. BILL YATES: And, Dave, what's an IED? Just explain that. DAVID GIBSON: An IED is an improvised explosive device. ...

Paul Mann shares his knowledge on all things boatbuilding, from classic methods to hull shape to new materials. Find out what it takes to build a classic Carolina-style sportfishing boat. At just 25 years old, Paul Mann splashed his first custom sportfish, using the skills and know-how he picked up from some of the best-known Carolina boatbuilders of the day. That first boat, the Madd Hatter, was Paul's dream boat and he fished it as a charter captain. But once people saw the boat leading the pack through the treacherous inlets, interest grew. He began to focus on boatbuilding full time and 30-something years later. Thirty-plus years later, Paul has decided it's time to hang up his sanding block. He sits down with us to share some of his secrets and explain what makes a great hull.
