E394 – "Inner Voice: A Heartfelt Chat with Dr. Foojan Zeine." In this episode, Dr. Foojan Zeine chats with Sean McMann. Sean was recruited right out of college to work at one of the largest data firms, and he embarked on an eight-year journey from a new graduate to a consulting director. Privileged to see behind the curtain of some of the largest corporations today, he recognized the system was broken and quit at the height of his career, when working the least but making the most money he ever had, betting everything, including his money, reputation, and time, on trying to fix the problem of the corporate jungle. He shares his insights in his new book, Hacking the Corporate Jungle: How to Work Less, Make More and Actually Like Your Life. www.seanmcmann.com # 1 on the 20 Best California Mental Health Podcasts list by FeedSpot. https://podcasts.feedspot.com/california_mental_health_podcasts/ Check out my website: www.FoojanZeine.com, www.AwarenessIntegration.com, www.Foojan.com Summary Corporate Power and Societal Impact Sean McMahon, a former data firm consultant, discussed his views on the corporate world and its societal role. He expressed concerns about the inefficiency and power of large corporations, arguing that they prioritize profit over people and contribute to societal issues. Sean suggested that corporations need to shift their goals from profit above all else to something else, but hasn't yet figured out what that should be. He also mentioned his book, "Hacking the Corporate Jungle," which explores these ideas. Dr. and Sean discussed the potential for corporations to evolve and adapt to changing societal needs, the inefficiencies in corporate structures, and the need for a shift in focus toward a more human-centric approach. He proposed that with efficiency and time saved, individuals should focus on activities that make them feel alive and contribute to their mental health, highlighting the need for a more efficient structure that benefits all, not just a few. They also discussed the potential for individuals to create their businesses and the importance of understanding the value of time in maintaining mental and physical health. They discussed the importance of self-discovery, identity, and fulfillment in one's career. Dedicating one's life to a corporation can lead to unhappiness and a lack of creativity. Sean suggested that people allocate some of their peak creative hours to their corporation while using the rest for personal creativity and self-care. They discussed their journeys and the factors that have shaped their lives. Sean shared his experiences since quitting his job, including a period of depression and a journey to process trauma, which led him to find hope and excitement in his daily life despite the uncertainty of his future. Dr. then shared her experiences working in a sales role and discovering her identity. Dr. decided to leave the role after realizing it required her to become a "barracuda" to make more money. Instead, she became a therapist, created her own companies and nonprofits, and eventually developed her own models. Dr. discussed the challenges of growing a collaborative community, highlighting the difficulty of maintaining structure while allowing individuality and adaptability. Sean agreed, noting the contrast between hierarchical and network structures and the need to shift towards a more networked approach to problem-solving. Both emphasized the importance of human collaboration and adaptability in complex problems. Sean McMahon, author of "Hacking the Corporate Jungle," discussed the importance of listening to one's inner voice when feeling discontent in their job. He emphasized that it's about being grateful for the job and exploring the reasons behind dissatisfaction. Sean encouraged everyone to contact him if they wanted to discuss their concerns. Life. What is it? How did it start? Is it unique to Earth, rare or abundantly distributed throughout the universe? While biology has made great strides in the last two hundred years, these foundational questions remain almost as mysterious as ever. However, in the last three decades, astrobiology has emerged as an academic discipline focused on their resolution. Already we have seen progress, if not aliens. The success of the space telescope Kepler in discovering exoplanets may come to mind. Equally important is the work to understand how we can demarcate biological from abiotic patterns — when we can be sure something is a genuine biosignature (evidence of life) and not a biomorph (looks like life, but is the product of other processes). Our guest this week is Sean McMahon, a co-director of the UK Centre for Astrobiology. Sean takes us through the field in general and gives particularly thoughtful insights into these epistemological problems. He also cautions that we may need a certain psychological resilience in this quest: it may require generations of painstaking work to arrive at firm answers. Believe it or not, the Cincinnati Bearcats are just 66 days away from officially joining the Big 12. Alex is joined by Zach Fries, from the Fries Frame Podcast and PFF, and Sean McMahon, from iHeartMedia Cincinnati, for the latest on the biggest storylines surrounding the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football and men's basketball programs. Zach and Sean talk about how Emory Jones's previous stops in his college career have prepared him for this opportunity to be the Cincinnati Bearcats starting quarterback. There are a lot of things to like about C.J. Frederick committing to the University of Cincinnati. But one thing that stands out is the fact that he played with Kentucky and Iowa, two of the best conferences in the country. Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball was recently given the distinction of being "most underrated" of all time. Zach and Sean take the approach of maybe they're "properly rated" if not "underrated." Full Preterism is a Biblical eschatological viewpoint holding that all “end times” prophecy in the Bible was fulfilled in the 1st century, chiefly in the ministry of Christ and the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in AD 70. The doctrine is considered orthodox Christian, but could it contain and be contained in Gnostic thought? Could the Nag Hammadi library host Preterist ideology, or is it more symbolic? Let's find out as musician and Baptist minister Sean McMahon materializes at the Virtual Alexandria. Expect a broader conversation of Gnosticism and how it manifests in modern spirituality.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/aeon-byte-gnostic-radio/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
The McMahon family (Balzer Grain Carts) suffered a horrible loss that only made their family tighter. We recorded this before I got to spend some time with them at Farm Progress Show, Their story is inspiring.
Clean Water in Iowa Starts Here, wherever here is, and today it was near Radcliff on Heath Stolee's farm to check in on one of our first Clean Water Wednesday projects, his 16 acre CREP wetland that is now full. Sean McMahon with the Iowa Agricultural Water Alliance also dropped by to inform Bob and Andy of a big announcement, we have secured an additional $7 million dollars in funding from USDA-NRCS to expand wetland construction across Iowa. PLUS Doug Pooch from Wyffels provides our planting season update (or lack there-of given mother nature's lack of cooperation" AND the Three Big Things You Need to Know.
One of the challenges we face in the discussion about renewals is the frequent use of terminology that typically flies over the heads of members of the target audience. Someone passionate about changing that is Sean McMahon, the creator, producer, and host of the Renewable Energy SmartPod.We started the conversation by talking about one of those terms, “net zero,” which is not totally understood. Net zero does not mean “no carbon” (that's “decarbonization”) but rather carbon neutrality. Carbon can still be used, but it is either captured or mitigated. Sean pointed out that there's always a conversation about where we want to be in some distant future year, but there's no publishing of where we are now.We also discussed:The interesting dissonance between the largest wind-producing states and their expected political views on renewablesA move among battery manufacturers to red states, again, not ones that are politically thought of as aligned with renewablesSean's concerns about offshore wind, especially in relation to significant climatic events, like a Category 5 hurricane: Could such turbines survive in such a situation? You'll also hear Sean's advocacy for stopping the use of a term like “rate payers,” which is not particularly helpful, and replacing it with terms like consumer, or for more impact, voter. If you enjoyed today's show, please leave a 5-Star review.
