In this deeply honest and hope-filled conversation, Justin and Trisha Davis open up about their journey through love, ministry, and the real struggles that nearly tore their marriage apart—including infidelity and hidden personal battles. With vulnerability and wisdom, they share how counseling, truth-telling, and taking ownership became the turning points in their healing. Trisha shares what it looked like to face the pain of betrayal trauma, while Justin reflects on the overwhelming guilt and the hard road to forgiveness. Together, they unpack how our stories, the words spoken over us, and the lies we believe about our worth can deeply affect how we show up in relationships. But this isn't just a story about pain—it's a story about redemption. About the power of grace, the courage it takes to grieve and heal, and the choice to believe that real transformation is possible. More than behavior change, they point to the heart—the deep, inner work that allows us to discover who we really are and who God has created us to be. Their story is a beautiful reminder that no matter how broken things may feel, healing and hope are always within reach. Episode highlights: Rock bottom is still a solid surface to stand when you come alongside Christ. Intimacy is to be fully known and know that we're fully loved. You never cause someone to have an affair. The truth sets you free because it doesn't give any room for the enemy. Excavating our past helps us understand our present. Redemptive pain can lead to growth. Healthy relationships require vulnerability and trust. Transformation comes from God's grace and our choices. Questions for reflection: 1. What small, everyday choices are we making in our marriage that could either be building connection—or slowly creating distance? 2. Are there areas of hiddenness in our relationship—past wounds, unspoken frustrations, or shame—that we need to bring into the light? 3. What does forgiveness look like in our relationship right now? Quotes from today's episode: "I had to choose to be a truth teller myself." "You never cause someone to have an affair." "I believed I have to be perfect to be loved." "You can't today, but God still has a plan." "Healing is hard, but then it's worth it." "You are not as stuck as you think you are." "You have to stop gaslighting yourself to grieve." "The heart of the book is about what God can do." In this episode, we welcome Titus Kennedy back to the show for an in-studio interview. He is a field archaeologist that has been involved in excavations and survey projects at several archaeological sites in biblical lands, including directing and supervising multiple projects spanning the Bronze Age through the Byzantine period. He wrote the new book “The Essential Archaeological Guide to Bible Lands”, and he previously authored “Excavating the Evidence for Jesus” and “Unearthing the Bible”. In this interview, we discuss what led to him becoming a professional archaeologist, the biggest misconceptions about the work an archaeologist does, why so many historical roads lead back to Egypt, why people are so interested in the lost secrets of ancient civilizations, how his faith in Christ propelled him towards excavating biblical lands, how archaeology continues to prove the reliability of the Bible, what happens when an archaeological discovery differs from popular belief or narratives, where he thinks Mt. Sinai is, where he would choose to dig if he could excavate any sight on planet earth, and much more. Let's get into it… Episode notes and links HERE. In this episode, we discuss WLOP co-host William Paris's recently published book Race, Time, and Utopia: Critical Theory and the Process of Emancipation. In his book, Will examines the utopian elements in the theories of W.E.B. Du Bois, Martin Delany, Marcus Garvey, Frantz Fanon, and James Boggs and their critique of racial domination as the domination of social time. The crew talks about the relationship between utopia and realism, the centrality of time for our social practices, and how history can provide critical principles for an emancipated society. On April 2, renewed excavation began in Jerusalem's biblical royal quarter in preparation for reconstruction work to highlight the ancient city's famed past. The three-to- four-week excavation is the first return to the area, known as the Ophel, since the excavations led by the late Dr. Eilat Mazar in 2009–2010. This current excavation is led by Hebrew University's Prof. Yosef Garfinkel, staffed by the Armstrong Institute of Biblical Archaeology (AIBA) and funded by AIBA alongside Daniel Mintz and Meredith Berkman. On today's program, host Christopher Eames interviews aiba staff member Brent Nagtegaal who was on the 2009 excavation and is helping coordinate the excavation this year. https://armstronginstitute.org/1217-excavating-the-ophel-water-gate

Welcome to the age of discourse dumping, are you dizzy? Do you study emoji eyes to find your facial recognition? Does the world look like a Cubist painting? Is the phrase ‘rubber baby buggy bumper' starting to make sense? Not to worry. We are here to reassure you that the White Knight is, in fact, talking backwards and the inmates are indeed running the asylum. Our prescription: put the lime in the coconut and drink them both together, listen to Episode 72, and then you'll feel better. HAG is, after all, the Harry Nilsson of history podcasts, and our very special guest today is Moritz Mihatsch, Cambridge scholar and co-author (with Michael Mulligan) of Shifting Sovereignties (available now). Their terrific new book offers an illuminating journey through the global history of what power has forever wanted you to believe, i.e. that the right folks are in charge. Excavating the meaning of sovereignty from the sedimentary layers of the human past, our guest explains why governing has always relied on a Wizard of Oz-like control over sound and color, equal parts legal pretense and quasi-religious authority, to create cover for whatever power wishes to do. So click your heels twice, repeat “there's no home like HAG, there's no home like HAG,” and settle in for more therapeutic historical analysis of a world trying to make us crazy.Website: History Against the GrainOpening Theme by Jessie DeCarloMusic Interludes:Gil Scott Heron and Makaya McCraven: "Running"Darkside: "American References"

Welcome to the second episode of the Purpose to Impact series on Stories from the River. In this episode, host Charlie Malouf introduces Teri Frangie, the newly appointed Senior Vice President of Global Business Development with Core Leadership Institute, and Kip Meyer. Both Teri and Kip attended the two-day Purpose to Impact program held on October 22nd and 23rd in Fort Mill, South Carolina, facilitated by Nick Craig from the Core Leadership Institute. Before diving into their reflections from the two-day experience, they discuss the evolution of the program over the past several years from its initial focus on authentic leadership to its current dedication to discovering and refining one's purpose. During the course of the conversation, they reveal the process of discovering their own personal purpose statements. Teri shares her inspiring purpose statement of "To uplift others and bring their score to light" with a tagline of "Co-creating melodies that inspire light and harmony," Kip reveals his refined purpose of "Excavating for hidden treasures within," which derived from "To help people see something meaningful that they do not see on their own." Then Charlie also reflects on his purpose, distilled to "Play the game," which started as a more lengthier version of "Play the game of life with a driven commitment that echoes and inspires others to rise to the occasion and reach their potential," before getting reduced to "Play the game of life." Charlie is still weighing whether or not to include the 2nd part, which in full would then be, "Play the game. Rise to the occasion." The episode delves into their personal growth experiences and the power of collaborative reflection and storytelling. They highlight the value of the program in fostering deep, non-judgmental relationships and gaining clarity and confidence through shared vulnerability. They appreciate the iterative process of creating and refining purpose statements, emphasizing that self-discovery is an ongoing journey. Charlie, Teri, and Kip urge listeners to consider the Purpose to Impact program for its significant impact on personal and professional development. Charlie also underscores the importance of "slowing down to go fast," ensuring one aligns with their true direction in life. Datshiane Navanayagam speaks to Angie Chioko and Nika Kokareva about clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance, in order to return safe land to their communities. At the end of 2024, The Landmine Monitor Report revealed that children suffer disproportionately from landmines across the world. The remnants of war remain in the ground for decades, claiming civilian lives, long after the fighting had ended.Angie Chioko is a Supervisor at the Mazowe Camp in Zimbabwe, working for The Halo Trust. Zimbabwe is one of the most heavily mined countries in the world. The minefields were laid in the 1970s during a civil war by the country's ruling army. In Zimbabwe today, the landmines cut off access to water supplies, pasture land, and cause children to take longer routes to school. Nika Kokareva is a Team Leader in the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine, working for Mines Advisory Group. The country has seen a rise in landmines and unexploded ordnance since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. The United Nations Development Programme has said Ukraine is now the most mined country in the world, with potentially 23 percent of its land at risk of contamination with landmines and unexploded ordnance.Produced by Elena AngelidesImage: (L) Nika Kokareva credit Mines Advisory Group. "Out of every 100 men, 10 of them shouldn't even be here. 80 are nothing but targets. Nine of them are real fighters and we are lucky to have them for they make the battle. Ah, but one. One is a warrior and he will bring the others back." - HeraclitusMichael Melicia is the CEO of CPEX and owner and president of Coastal Paving & Excavating is back for his second appearance on the show and we are ready to dig right in. Michael and Jay are unpacking what intuition is and how everyone can see it but not everyone can explain, how once a company reaches a certain point you have to start depending on others to uphold their end of the bargain, and being in-tune with yourself to be able to acknowledge your flaws and shortcomings and still be as affective as possible. Let's put another great conversation with Michael Melicia in the books.

Even though they've dealt with Roger, there's no means of escape for the outcast kids, so they're going to go over as many nooks and crannies of the Old Barnaker House as they can to get a little bit of information about what they're up against, not to mention some extra firepower. In Worthy of Freedom: Indenture and Free Labor in the Era of Emancipation (University of Chicago Press, 2024), Jonathan Connolly traces the normalization of indenture from its controversial beginnings to its widespread adoption across the British Empire during the nineteenth century. Initially viewed as a covert revival of slavery, indenture caused a scandal in Britain and India. But over time, economic conflict in the colonies altered public perceptions of indenture, now increasingly viewed as a legitimate form of free labor and a means of preserving the promise of abolition. Connolly explains how the large-scale, state-sponsored migration of Indian subjects to work on sugar plantations across Mauritius, British Guiana, and Trinidad transformed both the notion of post-slavery free labor and the political economy of emancipation. Excavating legal and public debates and tracing practical applications of the law, Connolly carefully reconstructs how the categories of free and unfree labor were made and remade to suit the interests of capital and empire, showing that emancipation was not simply a triumphal event but, rather, a deeply contested process. In so doing, he advances an original interpretation of how indenture changed the meaning of “freedom” in a post-abolition world. Jonathan Connolly is Assistant Professor of History at the University of Illinois Chicago. Connolly is a historian of the British empire with transnational interests in migration, the history of emancipation, and legal history. His research primarily concerns abolition and emancipation, imperial political and legal culture, and the category of free labor in the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. Your host for this episode is Mahishan Gnanaseharan, a PhD student in the Department of History at Stanford University. Mahishan studies the social, political, and intellectual histories of South Asian migrants across the Indian Ocean during the 19th and 20th centuries. Learn more about your ad choices. We first brought you Judith Brown's story on May 2, 2022. In April of 1977, 19-year-old Judith Brown vanished without a trace from New York City. But Judy wasn't the only person to disappear. She had recently begun dating a man named Richard, whom she met while briefly seeking treatment for depression. This man was much older and had a violent history. How much of that Judy knew, we can't be certain. She was still a teenager and likely groomed by him. Richard was housed at the Creedmoor facility after being found not guilty by reason of insanity for the 1971 murders of his wife and 17-month-old son, and that is where he and Judy crossed paths. Richard was given many freedoms at Creedmoor, even to wander the city alone. One day, he walked off the grounds and never returned. Judy's family was concerned that they hadn't heard from her, but then, the FBI came to their door as they were trying to track down Richard. Judy's family believed that law enforcement was looking for her since the FBI was on the case, but it doesn't appear that much was done to find Judy. Decades later, Judy's case began to heat up after a younger family member, Julian, took an interest in pursuing answers. Since we first spoke to Julian in 2022, he has kept digging. Julian joined us again to provide an update on Judy's case. You can find Julian's page for Judith on Facebook at Judith Anne Brown Missing - "Vanished With a Killer." We're finishing up our For the Love of Wonderful You series intentionally with a deep breath and a gentle word of encouragement. In this episode, even though we are talking about trauma, critical inner voices, and the arduous process of grief, Jen and her guest unwind these topics in the most gentle and loving way. Kobe Campbell is an award-winning therapist who specializes in helping people process grief and trauma in a way that unearths true empowerment. Hidden beneath the clamor of everyday life, the voices of our inner critic lie in wait to echo our grief. These voices, though silent to others, can roar deafeningly within us — shaping our perceptions, beliefs, and actions. Kobe's suggestions of journal “prompts” help guide our own trauma excavation process, and her gentle but challenging questions further that sometimes painful work, while steering us toward self compassion. Jen and Kobe touch on: The understanding that grief can take a lot of time to process; which can ultimately lead to wisdom and true empowerment A working definition of trauma and that trauma is highly personal and contextual How we can feel brave enough to examine the inner critical voice and discern where it's coming from Acknowledging the cultural pressure to live at an unsustainable pace that doesn't allow space or time to heal If you ever needed permission to grieve or drop the unrelenting pace of your life, then this is the invitation. * * * Thought-Provoking Quotes: “I love to tell people that trauma is not what happened to you. It's about how it affected you. And those effects can live in our present, even if the moment is in the past. I help people parse through that in creative ways with poems, quick words, and thoughts from my kitchen right after I'm done with the session.” - Kobe Campbell “I think that many of us have not been given the space to grieve long enough to know what genuine and internal empowerment feels like, and we keep trying to give ourselves that empowerment from the outside. We keep trying to grasp motivation from somewhere.” - Kobe Campbell "Trauma can be acute, meaning it can be a moment, or trauma can be chronic, meaning it could be several moments over time. And I like to give the example that trauma can be a boulder or it could be pebbles. But the reality is–it doesn't matter. There is no big 'T' trauma and little 't' trauma because, at the end of the day, all those pebbles amass to the size of a boulder anyway. It's just being accumulated over time." - Kobe Campbell "The person who holds the wound holds the wisdom. If we lock away that version of us that is deeply wounded and wants to cry for three months, then we're also locking away the wisdom of those situations that we need for our present." - Kobe Campbell "My humanity is good. God created it good. And if I believed that I was good for just existing as I am, how would I treat myself?" - Kobe Campbell Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Why Am I Like This?
