The Southeastern 16 crew of Graham Doty, Jay Greeson and Chris Lee analyze the draw in the Athens Regional of the 2025 NCAA baseball tournament. Topics include: Georgia might have more power than any team in the country; the Bulldogs had a staggering eight players bash double-digit homers in the regular season. First-team all-SEC pick Slate Alford provides a steady, veteran presence at third, Robbie Burnett (20 HR, 17 SB) was one of the SEC's best all-around outfielders and first baseman Ryland Zaborowski is back after injury and at full strength, could be the best of them all. Georgia struggled to find answers on the mound when it came to bullpen depth at times, but the Bulldogs have a ton of power arms and a starting duo of Leighton Finley and Brian Curley that give them a chance to beat anyone. Duke's inclusion in the regional adds more big power to scene this weekend at Foley Field, with Ben Miller (18 HR) the biggest threat among a lineup and bench that can take teams out of the yard throughout. Reid Easterly, Ryan Calvert and Mark HIndy have been the Blue Devils' most effective arms; the Blue Devils have trouble keeping opponents inside the yard but are talented enough to advance. Could Oklahoma State be a sleeper? The Cowboys weren't considered an NCAA tournament team until season's end, but coach Josh Holliday had his team peaking at the right time. OSU is one of the better teams in the tournament at preventing home runs and Harrison Bodendorft (2.77 ERA) is a legitimate starting ace, while Sean Youngerman (2.08) was tremendous out of the bullpen and Nolan Schubart (17 HR) provides some of the biggest power in the college game. Binghamton arrives in Athens after winning the America East tournament. The Bearcats will need good things from starter Hayden Tarsia and big tournaments from power bats Evin Sullivan (13 HR) and Freddy Forgione (14) to compete.
Chris Lee and Alfred Ezman look at the field of four in the Knoxville Regional and give picks. Topics include: Defending national champion Tennessee has struggled with defense and pitching lately. But Andrew Fischer and Gavin Kilen remain tough outs, freshman Levi Clark has flashed big things, and the Vols have a bunch of talented bats like Dean Curley and others, too. The Volunteers' fate will depend on ace Liam Doyle, starters Marcus Phillips and AJ Russell, and a bullpen with experienced flamethrowers like Brandon Arvidson and Nate Snead. Tennessee has the talent to repeat as national champions, but can it find consistency? Second-seeded Wake Forest is led by future first-round MLB pick Marek Houston at short, and had four other double-digit home-run hitters in Jack Winery (14), Kade Lewis (11), Dalton Wentz (10) and Matt Scannell (10). The Deamon Deacons also have a talented ace in righty Blake Morningstar at the top of the rotation, and lefty Matthew Dallas (who transferred from Tennessee) also starting in the rotation. Can the Demon Deacons put together a run this tournament starting in Knoxville? Cincinnati makes a rare NCAA Tournament appearance, but the Bearcats stole 127 bases (led by Landon Vidourek's 37) and have the Big 12 Player of the year in Kerrington Cross(.399/.525/.657) manning third. Whether or not the Bearkats do damage may depend on how arms Nathan Taylor and Kellen O'Connor perform. Miami (Ohio) could be one of the more challenging four-seeds in the tournament. The Redhawks have a pair of quality starters in Cooper Katskee (2.66 ERA) and Carson Byers (2.65), with Katskee being great at keeping the ball in the yard. The lineup got on base throughout the order, and the big bat is Evan Applejack (19 HR).

The Cincinnati Reds recently wrapped up a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers, concluding on April 6, 2025, with a challenging start to their 2025 season. The Reds entered the series with a 2-4 record from their opening homestand and hoped to turn things around on the road. However, they dropped three of the four games to the Brewers, finishing the series with a 3-7 overall record and losing all three series to begin the year. The series opened on April 3 with a 1-0 loss, extending a troubling trend of low-scoring games for Cincinnati. The Reds' offense struggled mightily, managing just one run across their previous 35 innings. On April 4, they broke their scoreless streak in a 3-2 defeat, with Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jeimer Candelario driving in runs late, but it wasn't enough to overcome Milwaukee's early lead, powered by Brice Turang's two-run homer. A bright spot came on April 5, when the Reds erupted for an 11-7 victory, snapping a four-game skid. TJ Friedl led the charge, going 4-for-5 with a homer, joined by Blake Dunn, Encarnacion-Strand, and Jose Trevino, who also went deep. Brady Singer earned the win despite allowing five runs. The series closed on April 6 with an 8-2 loss, as the Brewers capitalized on Cincinnati's pitching and defensive miscues, sealing the Reds' fate in the set. It's been a rocky 3-7 opening. They began at home with a six-game stand against the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers, splitting the Giants series (1-2) and taking one of three from the Rangers, highlighted by a 14-3 rout on March 31, driven by Elly De La Cruz's seven-RBI performance. However, consecutive 1-0 losses to Texas exposed offensive woes that persisted into Milwaukee. Pitching has been a strength—Hunter Greene and Singer have shone—but the bats have been inconsistent, scoring heavily in wins but vanishing in losses. With a tough stretch ahead, including a rematch with the Giants in San Francisco, the Reds, under new manager Terry Francona, must find offensive rhythm to climb out of the NL Central's fourth-place spot and reverse their 22-8 deficit against Milwaukee over the last 30 meetings.

Even though we are far, far away from mthe start of another football season, the bengals continue to dominate the local sports headlines….what a week. First they cut guard alex cappa, who by the way, signed a two-year deal last night with the la raiders. Then the team put the franchise tag on receiver tee higgins….the team has time to sign him to a long-term deal, we will discuss that. Maxx crosby signs a monster extension with the raiders, and you're thinking, who cares? Trey hendrickson, that's who. Hendrickson has 35 sacks the last two years….crosby has 22. Hendrickson makes 16 million o the final year of his contract. Crosby's new deal is for an average of 34 million per year. Then just yesterday, fan favorite sam hubbard called it a career announcing his retirement. The moeller high and Ohio state alum played seven seasons in stripes and will be forever remembered by the 98-yard fumble return in the playoffs three years ago. Congratulations to Sam Hubbard….good player and an even better guy. College hoops…….We are down to the final weekend of the regular season and on the local front, x is going up, the bearcats have hit rock bottom. The x men moved to 20-10 on the year after blasting butler last night 91-78. Zach fremantle poured in 24. The bearcats blew a seven point lead over the final 14 minutes in a loss to kansas state. The wildcats did not score a field goal for the final four minutes of the game and still won! Will X make the ncaa tournament? UC? We will discuss those two and look at two other local teams on the bubble, ohio state and indiana…those two teams collide saturday in bloomington. As for the reds…..Hunter greene was sharp against the rangers yesterday going four innings of two-hit, shutout baseball….he fanned six and walked one. The reds have lost three straight and will host the giants later this afternoon at 3:05 est. BENGALS Hubbard Tee/ hendrickson/ chase: A report said bengals arent close on any of the three. 40 million in cap space….could be more. Free agency begins this weds….. College hoops…. X UC OSU/IU Bubble teams
Chuck Walter and Hudson Klauke are angry. Listen to them vent, following a Senior Day loss to Kansas State. The Cincinnati Bearcats' NCAA Tournament dreams came crashing down in a gut-wrenching 54-49 loss to Kansas State on Senior Night. This defeat not only ended our hopes of making the Big Dance but also exposed deeper issues within the program. As a lifelong Bearcats fan, I'm beyond disappointed. We entered this must-win game as 8.5-point favorites at home, yet we couldn't even muster 50 points. The atmosphere in Fifth Third Arena felt more like a funeral than a crucial late-season matchup. A Season of Frustration This loss encapsulates our entire season - inconsistent play, lack of offensive identity, and an inability to close out games. We've gone from being ranked 15th in the country after beating Xavier to now facing the harsh reality of missing the NCAA Tournament yet again. The most frustrating part is that this team has talent. Players like Jizzle James and Dayday Thomas have shown flashes of brilliance, but we've struggled to put it all together consistently. Our offense often devolves into contested jumpers from undersized guards - a recipe that simply doesn't work at the Big 12 level. Questions Surrounding Wes Miller While I believe Wes Miller is a good person and players seem to like him, his tenure so far has been underwhelming. In four years, he hasn't left the program in a better place than he found it. The lack of progress is concerning, especially given the resources and support he's received. Miller's roster construction and in-game adjustments have come under scrutiny. The regression of players like Dan Skillings and Simas Lukosius is particularly troubling. As much as I want to believe in Wes, it's becoming increasingly difficult to justify his long leash. The transfer portal will be crucial this offseason. Miller needs to overhaul this roster and find a way to compete in the Big 12. If he can't turn things around next season, his seat will undoubtedly get hot. For Bearcats fans, this is a bitter pill to swallow. We've gone from being a perennial NCAA Tournament team to struggling for relevance. The passion is still there, but the product on the court needs to improve dramatically. Check out our show on YouTube!
