As you know, the tag line of this program is that this is the place for stories that matter. Well, this story matters more than most. Not only is it about experiencing the wonders of the African bush, it's about a young woman, sightless from birth, who taught others how to see.

What if every time you heard music, you saw explosions of shapes, or your pets name tasted like watermelon. Synesthesia a.k.a. the mixing of the senses is a very real reality for a lot of people. On this weeks episode of Little Curiosities, Kendall dives into the symphony of senses one experiences with this condition and also interviews a man with one of the rarest forms of synesthesia! It is a tale as old as time. When you're as experimental as an N*E*R*D that simply refused to be labelled and went out of their way to be different; sometimes, it just doesn't hit. Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which information meant to stimulate one of your senses stimulates several of your senses. Many well know artists such as Billie Eilish, Lorde and Kanye West are synesthetes. I chat to Sarah about her experience growing up with synesthesia and discuss some possible ways we as artists or coaches could take inspiration from this fascinating condition as well as how awareness of synesthesia can help individuals cope day to day. BIO “Sarah Grace is an American abstract synesthesia artist with a background in speech pathology and brain injury research. Sarah has a rare neural cross-wiring of the senses called auditory-visual synesthesia, which means that she has automatic experiences of colors, patterns, and textures when she hears sounds. She channels her synesthesia experiences into her artwork and creates custom paintings based on cherished songs, voices, and even animal noises. You can find her work at SeeingSoundsArt.com. Sarah also has a background in vocal and theatre performance and has always been fascinated by various forms of artistic expression. She and her partner Jackson, who also has a form of synesthesia, gained surprise viral interest on their TikTok platform, TastyWords. Their account is dedicated to discussion about synesthesia, the arts, and the fascinating intersection between the two.” https://www.seeingsoundsart.com/

For some people the number six is red and music evokes a range of colours and shapes. Seeing sounds and hearing colours is one type of synesthesia—where the senses are crossed. Meet an 11-year-old girl who was surprised to find out that not everyone sees colourful auras around people, and who feels that numbers have colours and personalities.

Hackaday editors Elliot Williams and Mike Szczys flip through the index of great hacks. This week we learn of a co-existence attack on WiFi and Bluetooth radios called Spectra. The craftsmanship in a pneumatic drone is so awesome we don't care that it doesn't fly. Building a powerful TEA laser is partly a lesson in capacitor design. And join us in geeking out at the prospect of big rigs getting their juice from miles of overhead wires. Show notes: https://hackaday.com/?p=426831
Ohne mich. Mit dir. Von A.D. SHOW NOTE: This episode contains audio that is being recorded remotely and not in a studio setting. Please bear with us as we continue to find the best ways to bring you the highest quality audio experience our equipment will allow while we all wait for things to return to some state of normalcy and we are all able to record in the studio with one another again. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Lucky number 13, and the tripod is BACK! Things got a little weird there for a sec, but we're all back together without having to be together. YAY! In this highly anticipated episode, we talk soundtracks, musicals, and the music we find most appealing in television shows. Music has a ton to do with what we like or dislike about our favorite movies or tv shows and most of us probably don't even realize it. There is little more appealing than a perfectly curated string of tunes to carry a film from good to great while you're shoving your face full of $20 popcorn. Pop in your special edition double-disc Titanic soundtrack and get ready for this one. LET'S GO! #TellMichelleWhatToDo --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/infectiousgroovepodcast/support

In February, 2020, I traveled to one of my favorite cities - Detroit. I sat down with three black gay men living there to ask them questions about their lives and experiences. On this episode of Seeing Sounds, I am presenting these Detroit Stories. This one features Damon Percy aka Magic of the House of Charles. This podcast includes a special story about Magic's friend Lance. Special thanks to LGBT Detroit for allowing me to use the space there, and Black Bear Brotherhood of Detroit for their support.

This week at wild and wacky Tin Can Studio's, Nick and Kawika are joined again by musician Andrew Xavier Barrio. After catching with Xavier on his current music endeavors, they explore a new segment called Snake Oil. You're in for some laughs as they each do their best infomercial impressions. Next, they contemplate what it would be like if we could see sounds. To wrap it up, the guys each have their own record label and they draft a team of the best recording artists throughout history. Vote for your favorite team on twitter.

Traveling yourself is vastly different from hearing stories, or seeing pictures, even though those are fine substitutes. However, nothing can pair up to the real thing, a fact Hayden learned for certain while he was in Vietnam. Hayden shares a message from Billy and calls for people to send him messages, and lets us know about his intentions towards Snapchat and Facebook Live while he is traveling in Brazil. He also introduces Cody Crabb, the composer for Travel Stories Podcast, and they discuss scores Cody has done for past episodes, how Cody writes the scores for episodes, and how important scores and music are to stories and media. Most importantly, however, Cody answers Hayden’s question of, “John Williams or Danny Elfman?” Follow Hayden as he tries cacao for the first time, sees the most spiders he has ever found in one place, tells a waitress she is beautiful, and gets a scroll illustrated by a blind monk. He also visits a very “businessman” hotel to treat himself, and shares his experiences with synesthesia - in Hayden’s case, the ability to see sounds. You may not be able to visit Vietnam, but Hayden’s travel journal entry just might be the next best thing.
