In today's episode, I'm joined by Ms. Ellie Penner, an art historian whose work has taken her across the globe—from studying Himalayan art forms in Nepal and Ladakh to exploring ancient sculptures at Ajanta and Ellora, and observing masterpieces in the museums of the U.S. But beyond her deep love for centuries-old art, Ellie is an adventurer at heart. Raised in Colorado, she's an outdoors enthusiast who jumps at any chance to head into the mountains. And that's exactly what she did—on a 32-day, 483-milethru-hike on the breathtaking Colorado Trail, accompanied by two of her best friends. What followed was a trail full of stories: hitchhiking into nearby towns, camping under the stars, weathering hailstorms, naming each other with quirky trail nicknames, dodging wildlife, and pushing through sore, blistered feet—all while laughing nonstop. This episode is full of warmth, adventure, and some seriously hilarious moments. I don't consider myself a hiker, but after talking to Ellie, I found myself itching to plan a trip like this with my best friends. Come along for the ride—you'll laugh as much as I did.Tune in and get inspired—whether you're an art lover, anaspiring hiker, or just here for the wild stories.---------------------------------------------Follow Ellie on Instagram ---------------------------------------------To buy yourself a copy of the travel journal, click here: Travel Journal (currently shipping within India only)---------------------------------------------To support our team and donate generously, please click SUPPORT .Like our work? Now that the LORD has led His people to the brink of the Promised Land, Moses recounts the places Israel has camped since the Exodus from Egypt. Each place mentioned along the way is a place where the LORD led His people. Throughout this history, Moses highlights God's gracious work for His rebellious people. From Egypt to Sinai through the wilderness to the east side of the Jordan River, for forty years the LORD fulfilled His promises to His people Israel. Now, as they prepare to enter the Promised Land, they must resolve themselves to drive out the idolatrous inhabitants of Canaan. The LORD gives this command so that Israel remains faithful to Him alone. Rev. Peter Elliott, pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Seattle, WA, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Numbers 33:1-56. "Wilderness Wanderings” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the book of Numbers. After the LORD delivers His people from slavery in Egypt, He leads them toward the Promised Land. Although the first generation of Israelites proves faithless, the LORD remains faithful to His people and brings a new generation of Israelites to the plains of Moab. This strengthens us to listen to God's promises today and stay faithful to Him as He guides us toward resurrection life. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

In Stephen's own words:Having spent a career as a guest conductor with over 100 orchestras and served as a Music Director with two orchestras, I have collected a wide variety of experiences. These experiences have included teaching conducting to Senator Joe Biden, conducting the seventh inning stretch for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1973 for the national league Pennant and being interviewed on QVC and HSN. The memoirs are filled with musical as well as social stories about the travels that I have experienced. As the first American artist behind what was "the Iron Curtain" to travel around Pablo Escobars rancho, the memoirs are filled with annecdotes and stories about artists as well as locations. It has been a pleasure to commit to paper the stories with Ray Charles, Van Cliburn, me Ben E. King, Andre Watts, Itzhak Perlman and Martina MacBride.Learn more and/or buy the book (also available at amazon) at: https://www.stephengunzenhauser.com/Endless Mountain Music Festival Please leave a review or send us a Voice note letting us know what you enjoyed at:Back2Basics reconnecting to the essence of YOU (podpage.com)Follow us on IG and FB @Back2BasicsPodcast

TTB 216: Helping You Become a Remote WorkerEric Sutfin, founder & CMO of Zeal Remote Community, created this new platform to target the new flood of global remote workers and digital nomads. You, as a location independent employee can benefit from the in-app community based model as it offers you support from the consideration phase (like how do I even go about living in a place like Barbados for nine months?) all the way to life on the ground (how do I meet other people like me? Or how do I get health insurance, a bank account, etc.?). Today we discussed his new platform and some of the perks associated with being a digital nomad. At the same time, she grapples with the darker realities of resort culture: strangleholds on local economies, reckless construction, erosion of beaches, weighty carbon footprints, and the inevitable overdevelopment and decline that comes with a soaring demand for popular shorelines.Learn More About Our Guest:twitter.com/sstodolasarahstodola.comhttps://www.amazon.com/Last-Resort-Chronicle-Paradise-Profit/dp/0062951629/https://bookshop.org/books/the-last-resort-a-chronicle-of-paradise-profit-and-peril-at-the-beach/9780062951625SUPPORT THE PODCAST! TTB 210: The Anywherist; How to Live Anywhere in the WorldMelody Warnick, is the author of If You Could Live Anywhere, and has found from personal experience, in some ways it matters more than ever. With 46% of Americans reassessing where they lived during the pandemic being a digital nomad has never held so much value. Melody gives easy-to-understand tips and perspective to the new group of digital nomads, or as she says, “Anywhereists.” She wants to make those who are not location dependent know the plethora of options available to them: that certain cities have programs that pay remote workers to relocate, that living internationally may not be as expensive as you think, or that by living anywhere you unlock new potential to live the life you want. TTB 207: Walking Wales and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Ursula Martin was just 31 years old when she went to the doctor and......BAM. Large growth, scans, blood tests, fear and uncertainty. She had ovarian cancer. Three months later, March 2012, Ursula was in follow-up treatment, feeling dazed, confused and, as the clouds cleared, very very lucky. Starting in March 2014 Ursula walked from her home in Machynlleth, UK to a hospital appointment in Bristol then, during the six months before the next appointment she walked around, through, in, under and over Wales, in all its wonderful variations before returning to Bristol. Then, after the second hospital visit, I'll walk north, following the river Wye up to the mountain Plynlimon and over, home to Machynlleth.
