In this conversation I'm joined by the compassionate, wise, and fierce Dr. Shanequa Smith; a Restorative Practitioner with a passion for decolonizing inwardly - healing from systemic and sociohistorical inequity and generational traumas to better build new cultures and systems, rooted in joy and opportunity. In this episode, you'll hear Shanequa's story from the hoods of Harlem, NY to Charleston, WV. She shares how pursuing education and listening to Spirit helped her realize that while economic poverty can be hard to shake, inner poverty is something she could get free from, and something she is passionate about helping other Black and marginalized community members also find opportunities to heal from. All so that we can build new, less exploitative, systems that work for everyone. Through her experiences and our conversation around it, you'll hear threads circling topics like: intergenerational trauma and how that affects development of individuals, groups, and cultures; how easy it is for our own experiences to limit our expectations and vision, and how challenging it can be to shift those; a powerful analogy for those of us in white bodies who struggle with shame and inner conflict when it comes to the subject of racial inequity; the role awareness and joy play in making the necessary transition from ‘fighting against' to ‘building something new'; a more nuanced and challenging idea of what true community is and can be the pitfalls of a well-intentioned desire to “help” and some things to think about as we approach “charity” a critique of white-dominated wellness and spirituality spaces and some things to consider when bringing restorative/ reparative justice in. How did this conversation leave you feeling? Did you learn anything new or find yourself curious about anything? We'd love to hear. Tendencies of masculine and feminine energies are innately in all of us! Even if you don't battle it internally, it's sure to arise in a romantic relationship. Women need to allow men to be soft, men need to allow women to be assertive. If someone can't honor or encourage your independence, RED FLAG. Sometimes a female's masculinity in a relationship can be a defense mechanism. First date etiquette and who pays. Energy balances in same sex relationships, it's still a struggle to navigate. A TRUE alpha man is secure enough to allow his woman to have masculine energy.  Follow Neeq on IG! @allyou.neeq.isloveee --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rantnotover/support

The AOC Foundation, INC seeks to build a community of partners that are committed to empowering children around the world. We seek to provide FREE performing arts opportunities for youth who are orphans, refugees, or living in extreme poverty. Our goal is to liberate a generation of young people who may feel helpless through arts and literacy education.   LeJon April Payne (LA), International Service Organizer, and Summer Blackmon, and Shanequa National Service Organizer represent The Art of Confidence (AOC). While LA organizes trips to Africa 3 times a year to help children in orphanages and schools in poverty, Summer organizes the national service projects such as book and clothing drives, school partners, volunteers, and Donations. The purpose of The Art of Confidence (AOC) is to use the Fine Arts as a pathway to create a multifaceted individual who exudes confidence in every aspect of their life. We seek to create a foundation in our students that will enable them to be resilient in any chosen career path or journey they embark upon. We believe that confidence is necessary in order to be successful. The AOC began in 2011 as a performing arts alliance in Atlanta, Georgia. The goal of the AOC was to provide opportunities for members of the Atlanta community to get on the stage and express themselves. Since then, the AOC has evolved into a non-profit organization that seeks to provide performing arts and educational opportunities to children who are less fortunate, around the world.   The mission of the AOC is to make an impact on the world through the ARTS by giving students the opportunity to perform and showcase their talent and strengths! We seek to be valuable members of the cultural community through outreach, philanthropy, and volunteering.
