Hey oh! It's another solo Steve episode! My lovely partner Kathryn is working VERY hard with our kiddos during 4-H achievement days! So this past weekend we decided to have a date night while the kids went to a rodeo with their Uncle. So I decided to plan a bit of it out and surprise her. We also had some impromptu fun! I decided this would be a good subject to tackle again, solo, and share my thoughts. I pulled from 2 different articles as well which fit perfectly!

Every time I tried to create a homeschool calendar for our upcoming year I ended up frustrated. I had read about various scheduling models to create a homeschool calendar, but none of them work for us. Finally, I had two epiphanies that allowed me to let go of the rules and think outside the box so I could create a homeschool calendar that actually worked for our life instead of trying to fit our life into a school calendar. After all, that’s one of the blessings we love about homeschooling—the flexibility it offers us.  In this episode, I'll explain how I create our homeschool calendar. You'll learn: About homeschool calendar options. How to break your school year into terms. Factors to consider when determining your homeschool calendar. How to create your homeschool calendar. Tips for adjusting to a non-traditional school calendar. Do you remember when you were first considering homeschooling?   I do! My husband and I had so many questions!  SO.MANY! Thankfully, we found websites and books we could read and currently homeschooling parents to whom we could ask questions. I am so grateful for how patient and grace-filled they were in answering our myriad of questions. Now, the tables are turned. After homeschooling for 10 years, we have been privileged to answer many questions from parents who are considering homeschooling and trying to decide if it’s a good fit for their family.  And I’ve learned a few things. Sometimes I think the answer to a question is obvious because I have knowledge about the situation they don’t have. Their question is a legitimate question, and I need to be careful to answer it in a way that they feel heard and valued. Homeschooling is not a good fit for every family. As much as it has blessed my family, some families benefit from a different education option. And that’s okay! Every homeschool is unique so there is no one right answer for how families should approach homeschooling. It’s okay if they decide to do something a little different in their homeschool than we do. That’s the beauty of homeschooling. In this episode of the podcast, my goal is to equip you so you can answer questions parents might have about homeschooling. In this episode, we'll discuss How to answer the questions families have when they are deciding if homeschooling would be a good fit for them. Why you should be patient. Remember that you once asked very similar questions! How to help them customize their homeschool. Why homeschooling is not a good fit for every family. The first step they need to take is to join HSLDA! See the full show notes:https://www.triumphantlearning.com/048/ How you can support the podcast Do you love the All in a Homeschool Day podcast? As a Christian, I know that I'm supposed to "give thanks in all things" and look to the Lord for my daily needs. Yet I've been through some devastating experiences over the past year. How can I be thankful and trust God at a time like this? SHARE: Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on pinterest Share on print Share on email God hasn't promised us a rose garden. Not in this present world, anyhow. That misguided idea has no place in the message of the Christian gospel. When life seems full of pain, we need to remember what Paul said to Timothy about “enduring hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3). We should also bear in mind a couple of very broad principles that are fundamental to the biblical worldview. First, we must never forget that we live in a fallen world. If things go wrong and trials beset us, this isn't a reflection on the power and genuineness of God's love. Nor does it necessarily imply that we have sinned against Him or displeased Him. It simply means that the world isn't what it's supposed to be.

I'll be the first to admit that I am often the limiting factor in us actually doing nature study. It is one of the first subjects I cut when we get busy. And if it's cold, hot, windy, buggy... Well, you get the idea. But I know how valuable nature study is for my children so I made it a priority when they were little. The past couple of years we have not studied nature as consistently because our schedule has gotten busier, and my children's other subjects have consumed more of our day. But after my interview with Cindy West, I am convinced I need to add nature study back into our homeschool. And even though I know it is best for us to get outside to study nature, I am excited that we now have another option to learn about nature via live classes. If you are hesitant to add nature study to your homeschool because you don't know what to study or you don't want to get outside, this episode is packed with helpful suggestions and ideas for the brand new nature study newbie. If you are a nature study veteran, there are tips for you too! What we talked about The benefits of adding nature study to your homeschool. You may be surprised at some of these benefits. I was! How nature study lays a foundation for high school science and the simple and fun activities you can do on a nature walk to help lay that foundation. How to motivate your children on a nature walk. God is doing BIG things and we are so excited to share them with you. We asked you to pray for the Lord to guide us, and He has! We are SO excited to tell you that in a few weeks, we are driving west from Georgia to Washington to complete the filming of Schoolhouse Rocked with Heidi St. John! The remainder of what needs to be filmed to complete the movie is the narrative portion. We have interviewed several fantastic homeschool experts and families, but in order for Schoolhouse Rocked to be an entertaining and compelling film, there must be an engaging and relatable storyline to tie all the interviews together. That’s where Heidi comes in. We will join Heidi at the Firmly Planted Homeschool Resource Center in Vancouver, Washington to talk about the ups and downs, benefits and blessings, challenges and victories of homeschooling. For those of you who are not familiar with Heidi, she is a homeschool mom of 7 and an outspoken advocate for truth. She is dedicated to changing culture through the faithful application of God’s Word. She is a popular speaker and author, and host of the Heidi St. John podcast. You will be BLESSED by her important part in Schoolhouse Rocked! BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!  As you can imagine, this cross-country journey and filming in Washington is going to be quite costly. God has been faithful to provide for production up until now, through people like yourself, as well as a few awesome sponsors, and we know He will continue to do so. In order to complete filming with Heidi, we need to raise approximately $30k, in the next few weeks, for crew, travel, equipment, and other costs. It’s a big number, we know. But, we also know that our God is really big and that where He guides, He ALWAYS provides! Our trip is planned, our family is packed up, and we are going! Will you help us get there? Here’s how YOU can help –    PRAY~ God hears our prayers and is faithful and able to answer. Often as homeschool moms, it is easy to get caught up in making everything just right and eliminate all possible problems. Instead, Kerri Bazzell, a homeschool mom of three, reminds us that sometimes the journey is part of the lesson we need to learn. We also talked about her favorite books, how she loops back to read family favorites with her younger children, how she finds time to fit in reading as a homeschool mom, and how a special drink party can make Shakespeare or literature time more special. Have you noticed homeschooling often feels like being in a refiner's fire? There are days it seems you accomplish nothing because you spend the whole day addressing character issues—yours or your children's. This is frustrating when you already have so much to do and just want to check things off your list. Instead of allowing this to overwhelm and frustrate you, embrace these moments. In this episode, we are discussing four tips for embracing your time in the homeschool refiner's fire and how it is beneficial in the long run. Key takeaways from the show Recognize this is an investment. Build margin into your schedule. Be a helper, not an adversary. Seek input from your husband. Links and resources from the show The story of the refiner's fire: As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities. The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: ‘He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.’ (Malachi 3:3) She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, ‘How do you know when the silver is fully refined?’ He smiled at her and answered, ‘Oh, that’s easy — when I see my image in it.’ (source unknown) Need help identifying your essential homeschool items? They discuss on how they discovered a need and how they were able to solve that need by birthing Share Share and by doing that, disrupted the B2B business industry by building a first of its kind platform that allows stylists to find and book empty saloon space on demand. “Managing people is the way to run a business,” says Tye who holds a doctorate of professional barbering and is a number 1 bestselling author on how to achieve a long-term success in the beauty and style industry. Prior to cofounding Share Share with her husband Courtney spent the last two decades building winning teams as the vice president of marketing for marketing advocate global director of Oracle’s worldwide digital marketing strategy and innovation group. She shows us how her corporate experience helped her shape Share Share to what it is today. According to Tye “The next generation of barbers were looking for access over ownership. Not wanting to spend long stretches of time in any one saloon, they wanted to be able to move around, posting their travel schedule on social media, get clients to book with them and then travel around and see different parts of the world and still build a clientele from city to city.” Dr. Tye and Courtney Caldwell talk about finding the perfect partner when starting a business and how Share Share was born out of necessity and is here to stay as it solves a need in today’s economy.  Roshawnna, Dr. Tye, and Courtney Caldwell discuss: [03:45] Tye shares how he came up with the idea for Share Share.
