Danielle continues the discussion on the importance of andthe legally binding effect of Advanced Health Directives (AHDs), their role in guiding healthcare decisions, family disputes and the conditions under which they take effect. An AHD must be witnessed by a justice of the peace orsimilar to be valid. It can include refusals of life-sustaining treatments underspecific conditions, such as terminal illness or persistent vegetative state. The AHD should be stored securely and shared with trustedindividuals and healthcare providers. Legal advice is recommended for those unsure about theirdirectives. Disputes among family members can arise, but the AHD'sdecisions must be followed unless contrary to good medical practice.

Danielle from de Groots Wills and Estates Lawyers explains the importance of Advance Health Directives (AHDs) in Australia, which allow individuals to specify their future healthcare wishes and appoint attorneys. There are two types: common law and statutory directives, with legal recognition varying by state. In Queensland for example, only statutory directives arelegally binding. AHDs differ from Enduring Powers of Attorney, which coverfinancial matters. They also specify consent or refusal of treatments, including DNR orders and organ donation. If no AHD is in place, healthcare decisions are made by astatutory health attorney, prioritising the spouse, carer, or close friend.Danielle defines an AHD as a document that allowsindividuals to express their future healthcare wishes and appoint attorneys to make decisions on their behalf.Join us on part 2 where we continue this important discussion.

Feel Good and Getting Better it me or do we all want everything NOW! Instantaneously or even quicker.I think we've fallen into the trap that instant gratification is the thing. But if we get that then we want the next thing and the next thing and I feel we miss out. Why do we want everything instantaneously? It got me thinking how does this apply to our personal development? Our dreams and desires? Enjoying the adventure and not just the elusive prize. Then I got to thinking about therapy and how I like quick and comfortable change. Is that in conflict with the adventure of developing our true self? If you would, come follow me on this little dive of of discovery of how we can create a practice of celebrating who and where we are and being curious of what's to come. It's really not how fast. It's enjoying how good and getting better. I'm back. Feeling good, getting better. That might be the title of this podcast or this episode, I'm not sure yet, but just for a moment, just for a moment, while you're here with me, I'd like you to take a breath. Just a breath. And, know that you're blessed because you are. Just take that breath. Because I've been thinking. I do that. I do a lot of weird thinking. And I was thinking the other day, why do we want everything now? And I'm saying we, because I know I do. I know I do. Occasionally, not always, but I get lost in that. But I see it in so many different ways that people, want something right now. Right now at the latest, tomorrow. You know, everything you order has got to be here tomorrow. Can't wait. Got to have it. And it's like a race, even. It's not just getting things to be able to do things to, you know, maybe in this land, this life of personal development, there's a race to get somewhere quicker, to find that hack. And I hate the word hack, you know that. To learn something quicker, to have it now, to be able to do these things instant, bloody taneously. And it's. Is it? Or is it? Or is it. Is that search for instant gratification feeling good right now, no delay. It's got to happen now. And I think when you have that instant gratification, it just doesn't last. Because the thing is, we've got this in our mindset. I'm saying we. Maybe it's all me. I don't know. But I think there's a bit of this in everybody, and there's certainly a lot of it in a lot of people as well. And I think we can learn from others. We can learn the good things about others, and we can learn what not to do from others actions. But that instant gratification doesn't last, because the next thing I want, the next thing I want, the next thing now. I want it now. I want it now. You don't even have time to enjoy, to enjoy what you have, right now, what you've achieved. So that's why I said, let's stop, take a breath, pause for a little while, and just think for a moment, what is the prize that we want? That's a big question. Is it, Paul? And it's totally too vague. I'm thinking about what is the prize that we desire, a dream of for ourselves in our own personal development, because that's what this is, isn't it? It's personal development. Unplugged. so we're going to get into the raw part of this. Let's get naked. Where did that come from? Clubby. But, you know, what is the prize we won? I made a few notes, a few bullet points. I thought, well, there's skills I want to learn skills, different things. I want to improve the skills I've got and build upon them. So my skill base and that foundation gets bigger and stronger to enable me to do even more things. Maybe I want to let go of certain negative emotions, and I want to experience more positive emotions and things like, and they all link together, don't they? Because if I'm learning new skills that I really enjoy and it's making me feel I'm a better, more capable person, more confident, more confident person, my emotions are going to be more positive, aren't they? What will happen to my beliefs? My beliefs will be more positive about me. Probably, have more positive beliefs about other people, but it's all about me, my identity. Chipping away at the stuff that doesn't work. Chipping away the stuff that has been trying to protect me, but is no longer appropriate and, finding the real beliefs and, values of me, my identity, who I really am and who I can grow to be. And it's grow, not instant. It's grow, evolve. What about behaviors? Because they come from skills and emotions and beliefs, don't they? Because it's one thing just knowing stuff, but being able to do stuff, it's be and do and know, isn't it? it's that mastery again, knowing what to do and doing what you know and have that expand, have that grow.     Cloughie says letting go of anxiety and fears can lead to positive change   And ultimately, I guess it's to grow and experience a good life, because a good life will have all the wonderful things that you've done. M and I see that as the prize. We can go deeper into that. I mean, what would it feel like to have that dream come true, knowing that you're going to carry on growing, experiencing a good life even more, more richer, and having the time to wallow in it. And I. Wallow is a weird word, but I love the word to wallow in good experiences, wallowing, good emotions. Why not? We've created them. You've created it. You created your beliefs, your emotions, your skills, your behaviors, because you had the right intention. You know, I see those people who go, oh, I've been around. I've traveled, man. I've traveled. I've been everywhere. I've done this. And you talked. Oh, yeah, I've been there and I've been there. How did you be in so many places? Well, they did, but they only visited for half a day. A day. It was like getting your stamp and moving on. And to me, well, that's not experiencing stuff. That's not wallowing, is it? I love the term, let's just sit down for a spell. And that spell, spellbound, being in the moment and just thinking, yeah, this is good, and I'm gonna do more of this. Now, I've talked about slowing down and really getting into what the desire, what the prize, what the dream is. Not instant gratification, but on the other hand, there's a complete. When I was thinking about this, you're going, okay, Cloughie. That, to me, seems really positive. But on the other hand, what do you talk about when you do your own therapy? Cloughie. And you see, when it comes to change, as in change of letting go of the things that are, stopping us using our skills, our emotions, our values, and growing and evolving in experience, I like to have therapeutic change as quick as possible. In fact, our unconscious mind learns to change quickly. It doesn't like, like one word at a time, one word a day. If you read a book, one word a day, well, after two days, you wouldn't even. Three days, four days, you wouldn't know what's happening. You wouldn't know. Even if you read the whole book, you wouldn't retain anything because it wouldn't make sense. But if you could let go of anxiety and fears just like that, you have time, more time to grow those experiences, to grow those skills, to grow those emotions, to wallow in wonderful things. And, I think that's the dichotomy, really. I want you to have that gratification of quick change, knowing that you can change quickly because your unconscious mind is only trying to protect you. And you can find it in a better way, because if you compare anxiety, fears, unconfidence, any negative emotion, guilt, jealousy, what else can we have? Depression, OCD, aHD, AdHD? I don't believe that. But hey, all that stuff trying to do you some good, but is really stopping you. If you found a better way from developing those skills to developing more positive emotions. Because do you feel safer when you're doing the things that you love, being confident and competent in the things you love, having that good emotion, believing in yourself and the behaviours coming out into a good experience, that's safety. So we just need to learn from the past and we can learn from the past really quickly because we get your unconscious mind to do that. And because of that we can then allow ourselves to experience creating the you you want to be and experiencing those moments, those aha, uh-huh moments when you suddenly realize, if you stop, take a breath and realize, yeah, at this very moment in time, I'm blessed, I'm going to be more blessed as I evolve. But imagine what you'd see if you let go of that anxiety, let go of those fears, let go of that, unconfidence, let go of that guilt, whatever, whatever, whatever we talked about, you fill in the blank. What would it feel like if you could lose that in a few moments, a couple of hours maybe, what would it be? What would you see in the world? How would the world look different? Because it would look different because you'd be seeing it through a different set of filters. And when you look at. And you'd see it from a different perspective. And when you look at things differently, we know things look different. And, what were the sounds and the words that you would hear, that, self talk, what would that be like when you've let go of that anxiety, fear and confidence and all that other stuff, and living in the world of developing your skills, really aligning yourself with your values and your beliefs and your personal development, knowing that you're going to grow and experience a good life. And how would that make you feel when you put that all together? Seeing what you'll be seeing, hearing what you'll be hearing, because you've let go of all those negative, emotions, negative behaviors, negative beliefs, limiting beliefs, and you're working forward towards growing, growing into the next part of you. You might even taste and smell success. And that's when I say it's a matter of doing that quickly so you could be able to stop and pause, take a breath and, realize, how far have I travelled? You see, this is you now. So when you stop and pause just for a moment, notice, yeah, I may have a few issues I need to deal with. But if I look back, if I did look back, I, know I've gone through things and they've disappeared now. So I can do this. Let me do it quickly because Cloughie says you can, because that's what we do. So if you listen to hypnosis, tracks NLP processes, go and see a therapist, a good hypnotist, I always tell you, a hypnotist, NLP practitioner and timeline. Therapist, practitioner, you get one of those who has got those skills, boom. You'll do it really quickly and so you can then set yourself up to start learning and developing and evolving. But just. If you just say how, you know, if I look back now on this personal development, life that I've led, how far have I traveled in this hero's journey, hero's adventure? What was I like a year ago? Four years ago? Wow. Yeah. Because sometimes we forget that when we're living in the moment. But it's good to know how far we've come because now we can look to see where we want to go because it will give us more confidence in ourselves, more competence to be able to say, well, I can do more because I've got more skills. I've got more skills than I had back then. So if I've got more skills, more, access to more positive emotions, beliefs and values, and I've got behaviours that really go forward to my prize, my desires, my dreams of being the best version of me, I can do even more. And you begin to wonder in this moment of, just being you right now. You just wonder what's in store. What's in store for me, my life. Imagine that now. Just being you, just taking this breath, knowing you're blessed, feeling grateful because you're still. I nearly swore and still alive. You're above ground, you're taking breaths. So you've got everything you need. And I think you see, I, know you're going to work on your skills. I, know you're going to work on letting go of emotions, the negative emotions, letting go of limiting beliefs. And I know you're going to work at accessing positive emotions, being aligned to your highest values, having positive beliefs about yourself, the identity beliefs that really going to support you, therefore creating wonderful behaviours.     Practice of celebrating being you, being me. Whatever your circumstances   I want you to practice. This is what I'd like. I want you to actually sit down for that spell and create a practice of celebrating being you, being me. Even if we're a little bit broken. We've talked about that before, being a little bit broken because we always go, a little bit broken, but go, yay. Yay. I. She wrote that down on my notes. A big capital letters, uppercase y, a y, exclamation marks all over the place. Yay. It's just because I don't think we do. And once we celebrate who we are, I think our unconscious mind gets it, gets it even more. And, we can just. And it doesn't have to take long. You know, to me it's like, it's a form of the attitude of gratitude. Just taking this moment, taking a breath, realizing you're blessed. Whatever your circumstances. Yes, we've got some issues maybe that we need to deal with. Maybe life has thrown us a curveball and at this moment in time, we're not in our best state. But when we sit here right now and go, do you know what? I'm still alive. I'm me. And I've got. Because I'm still alive and because I'm still breathing, I've got the opportunity to develop those, skills even more, to deal with this, to access the right emotions and behaviours and beliefs. Because this too will pass. And even the good stuff, this too will pass. And you go, that's negative, Cloughie. No, because this too will pass and get richer, get richer, so much more richer in life, the experiences. And you could just sometimes, even imagine in the future of what that will be like because there is so much more to come. And it's not when we go right back to the beginning, it's not how fast, it's how good, how good it could be right now. Finding the good in the right now and knowing it's been getting better. Therefore it will keep getting better. And you then can look at that vision, that ultimate vision of you, the best version of yourself that will just keep getting bigger and brighter and better because you'll be building off that firmer foundation. And I think just doing this moment of practice, celebrating, because it's not just reviewing. We've done that, we do reviews, we do our planning, but just celebrating this moment in time. And yay. I'm still a little broken, but who gives a fuck? I did swear. But that's, that's it, isn't it? Who gives a fuck? It's me. I'm growing and I will continue to grow and I'm going to do the best I can. Wouldn't that be good? Isn't that good? And, how long does it take to practice celebrating being who you are right now? 30 seconds. Could be 10 seconds. Have you got 10 seconds in your day? You betcha. And with a lot of the stuff I talk about, there is only one negative side effect. If it doesn't work, if this doesn't make you feel better, more confident, more motivated to carry on, the worst side effect it will be is that 10 seconds in your day you will feel bloody awesome because you're celebrating the best of you. Nothing else. Just looking for the best of you and feeling grateful for it, feeling blessed. You're in this life and you're stepping up to the plate. And I'm celebrating being here because I'm going to make a difference, by the way. And that's what this will all come from. Because as we have that prize, that desire, that dream, in this personal development, to be the best version of ourselves, I know that will include helping and serving others, because it is. It always does. You'll be in that frame of mind to do things naturally, to help other people, the world, the planet, animals, whatever it is which floats your boat. You'll do good stuff for no one to return, and you'll make a difference. And then when you do stop and practice this celebration, you can take that in, too, and wonder how that's going to develop even more. That passion, that seed of passion will grow and then celebrate its growth, nurture it, feed it, water it. That's all there is. Well, maybe that's not all there is. There's lots of other stuff. But it's, to me, that's a lot of it. So let's just take that moment. Maybe if you want to. It's a muse. But if you just stop now, just celebrate yourself. Thank you for being here. Thank me for all the stuff I've gone through and I'm here and I'm still punching away, stepping up to that plate over and over again to be the best me I can. Sometimes I don't quite hit that bar, but that's okay because I'm going to do it better next time. Celebrate being you. Take a breath. There you go, my friend. I hope you enjoyed that little music. I just sometimes think that we can do all these wonderful different things, have all the processes in the world, and, you know, I've got loads of processes which are free. Where are they? Purcell? No, they're not there, Paul. They're at paulcloughonline.com podcast. Also, if you go to the main page there, you'll see some other stuff I've got there, which is good. All the discounted prices and all that stuff. And you can just have access to those low 60 plus hypnosis NLP processes to help you do that quick change from anxiety to confidence. So please take access of that. It's the whole reason. Not the whole reason, but one of the main reasons I've been doing this stuff. A lot of this is stuff is me talking to me. And you get, if there is any benefit, what falls out. But those processes, I've, put my best into those and I think they will. There's a lot of good stuff there. Not blowing it up bigger than it is, but I think I know it's stuff that I use in my therapy with other people and I just bloody work. I'm going to current adding to it.     What would happen if everyone celebrated being who they were   So if you could do that and if you could just share this as usual, that would be good. Because I think everyone. What would happen if everyone celebrated being who they were and feeling good for who they were and knowing there's so much more to come, knowing that it's not how fast, it's how good, how rich, we could enjoy the experience of evolution of ourselves towards the best version of ourselves. What would happen if everybody did that? So if you could share this, I think it'll make a difference. It'll make a difference to me, it'll make a difference to you, I know, but it'll make a difference to them and therefore it'll make a difference to little old planet Earth, which is the whole ecology of it all. Good for you, good for others, good for little old planet Earth. there you go. And if any of this is just that. Oh, actually, Paul, you know, you've said all this, but, I'm a bit struggling with getting rid of x, y, z. You know, I'm struggling with a bit of anxiety around or fear a bit about this, or this bloody adhd or all that stuff. Send me an email feedback@personaldevelopmentunplugedg.com. Have a little chat with you and we'll see what we can do about creating something just for you, because it'll be just for you and, everyone else gets the benefit of it. So it's good for you, good for me, because I love doing it, good for other people and therefore be good for planet earth. we're back there on the old ecology trail, so please do share, okay? And for goodness sake, if you haven't done it already, please do not press that subscribe button more than twice. Just once will do. Have more fun than you can stand, because that's the thing when you're celebrating you're going to have more fun. And you can stand right now. Take a breath and fly, my friend, and I'll see you on the next time, the fmqs and the longer podcasts. Okay? Have fun. Thank you so much for your time. It's precious and I appreciate it. Thank you. Bye bye now.     Paul Clough puts 90 seconds of hypnosis tracks on a separate website   So, the 90 seconds of hypnosis tracks. Why have I put hypnosis tracks on a separate website? Well, it's so simple, really. I wanted you to have them all in one place so you can look through them all. You can find the particular one you want. I've even made them downloadable so you can put them on any of your playing devices that you prefer. You don't need Wi Fi, you don't need the itunes or whatever, you can put them anywhere you like. You can even burn them onto disk if you want. Where did you get them? Well, there you go. I told you. It's paulcloughonline.com podcast. If you're worried about your email address, please don't be, because they stay totally safe with me. I only use them to send you out that email and give you access. Simple as that. I send you a link, special link, so you, and, only you can access those hypnosis tracks because I want them just for you. And the other thing about this is you've taken responsibility. I don't want to make these open to everyone, just random. You have taken responsibility to listen and be part of this community of personal development. And I want to help you. I want to help you personally to get your dreams, your goals, and therefore, I'm giving you these tools. Tools, these protocols, these paradigms, whatever you want to call them, but in deep hypnosis. So just enjoy, have more fun than you can stand with. Hypnosis one, you are now leaving the unplugged mind of Paul Clough. It's time to fly on your own. Be brave, my friend. Tak for denne vigtige påmindelse.

In this episode, we talk with Psychologist Benita Ranzon about one of the most misunderstood and stigmatized conditions that affect kids and adults - ADHD. About Benita I have been working in private practice at Fullarton House since 2005. The focus of my practice is on educational issues for students and adults. I offer diagnosis of specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. I provide learning and support strategies for home, school and work to enable people with reading, spelling, writing or maths difficulties to be successful. I offer diagnosis and advice to parents of children with ADHD, as well as adults with ADHD. I identify students with high intellectual or academic potential, sometimes called ‘gifted' students, using the WPPSI-IV or WISC-V cognitive tests. I provide recommendations on curriculum differentiation and other supportive strategies at school and home   Show notes While ADHD is not a specific learning difficulty like dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia, it does have a high association with these difficulties. Approximately 40% of people living with ADHD will also be living with dyslexia. This has big implications for parents and teachers in terms of being vigilant about ADHD symptoms in our kids and being knowledgeable about how ADHD and learning difficulties may impact on each other. ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that typically begins in childhood and may continue into adulthood. It is characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity that can impact various aspects of a person's life, including academic performance, work productivity, and relationships.  ADHD is typically identified based on specific criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). They have a PDF fact sheet about AHD available to download. You can see that the last time this was updated was in 2013! These criteria include the presence of symptoms in multiple settings, impairment in daily functioning, and the exclusion of other possible causes for the symptoms.   ADHD related links and resources we mention   Additude magazine ADDitude is an online resource for families and adults living with ADHD and related conditions and for the professionals who work with them. They have great resources about kids living with ADHD. For teachers For parents For adults They also have an excellent YouTube channel. Jessica McCabe - How to ADHD Jessica runs a YouTube channel that she describes as an ADHD toolbox. It's mostly aimed at adults but has great tips and resources for understanding ADHD from a lived experience perspective.   Jessica's TED talk sharing her ADHD success story.   Dr Russell Barkley We referred to Dr Russell Barkley a number of times during this podcast. YouTube is scattered with lots of bits and pieces of Dr Barkley's numerous talks. Dr Barkley talks about ADHD from a medical perspective, and the video below goes into the clinical details of ADHD for parents. He is engaging, compelling and highly knowledgeable.   Comments and questions are welcome! We would love to hear about your experience with ADHD and any tips you can share about supporting kids living with ADHD. Episode 166 Q&A: How To Advocate For Your Child When School Accommodations Aren't Being Met

This week's question is from Amy, “I need help understanding the purpose of carpet time in the elementary school setting. My son has ADHD and sensory processing disorder and struggles with carpet time, because he has to sit close to other kids, and he can't move because it's such tight quarters. I have been fighting for him to be able to sit elsewhere during carpet time since preschool, but the teachers just aren't willing to budge. Is carpet time something that is taught to people studying elementary education as being extremely important or something? I just don't get the point of it, if it makes it so the child can't listen and learn. Any suggestions are welcome.” In this episode, I will discuss the best ways to work with teachers and administrators when you need to make accommodation requests for your child. There are many reasons that accommodations go unmet in the classroom and it's important to be aware of what might be going on. Taking an empathetic and collaborative approach is best.  As the parent, you have the right to continue to advocate for your child and go up the chain of command once you've established that the teacher is unwilling to cooperate after a collaborative conversation. There are collaborative ways to maximize learning opportunities that benefit the entire classroom, the school administrators need to be willing to work that out with you. Ultimately if they are unwilling to meet a reasonable request it may be time to move on to another school.  You can submit a question by emailing us at support@drbeurkens.com with the subject line "Podcast Question." Connect with Dr. Nicole Beurkens on... Instagram Facebook Drbeurkens.com   Is Carpet Time Essential? It is not necessary or educationally valuable for a child to have to sit in a group on the carpet during any kind of instructional activity A child is not going to suffer in their childhood or in their adulthood if they sit somewhere else and aren't with the crowd on the carpet Trying to force kids to sit and receive instruction in ways that are not productive for them, such as carpet time, is actually far more harmful than making some accommodations   Teachers Denying Accommodations (During Carpet Time) First identify what the goal of carpet/circle time is: is the goal to learn to sit on a carpet for a set period of time (of course not!) or is it a skill/learning/direction objective?  This may sound ridiculous, but adults can be stubborn with their teaching approaches   We should be wide open to any type of seating arrangement that is going to allow a particular child to benefit from the instruction and achieve the goal of what is happening during that time (e.g., teaching a skill, receiving direction, etc.) Ask the teacher or the adults involved: “Help me understand what is the actual goal of this activity/this lesson/this time during the day?”   Acknowledge Control Issues May be a Factor  A sensitive subject, but when a teacher or staff member absolutely refuses to make basic accommodations, it often is related to the adult having issues with control  From the educator side (and as parents), it may be triggering past experiences such as not being heard or disrespected In the teacher's mind they are likely thinking “I told you to do this, therefore, it's important that you do it and not create problems, not do something different than what you were told, not need something else. You have to do this because you have to learn to do what you're told even when you don't want to, and even when it actually doesn't work for you” Consciously or subconsciously, when the students comply, it reduces teachers anxiety and helps them feel more comfortable and in control It requires that we, as adults, get past our own issues of control, anxiety about what would happen if we deviate from the “norm”, and check in with why we are resisting the willingness to consider an accommodation—is it a past trigger and does the rigidity benefit the child and the classroom? Have empathy for educators, just as we have similar experiences at home parenting, but also have accountability to make changes   Are the Educators Being Micromanaged? Are administrators or others higher up very critical to what's happening in the classroom? We need to respect individual teachers' abilities to make decisions in the best interest of students and not micromanage or have policies being made by those far removed from the classroom  Recognize the overwhelm that teachers and classroom staff face due to the really big systems-level issues/politics and the under-supporting of education in this country and this absolutely affects their demeanor   Supporting the Child and Teacher  Ask “How can we best accomplish this/maximize learning ability for all the kids in this setting?” Kids need to learn to follow instructions, they need to learn to respect their teachers and other adults and to engage with them in appropriate ways, but we need to make sure that the instruction and the demands and the requirements are appropriate and workable for the kids as well In these situations, it's important for educators to approach these topics through the eyes and perspective of the kids For example, carpet time could be problematic for children who need movement to learn, have sensory processing issues and the carpet is bothersome, they may have joint issues, etc.   Specific Steps for Parents Approach it with a collaborative mindset Start with the adult or teacher that is involved first. Schedule a meeting or send an email sharing your observations, concerns, questions If it cannot be resolved, then it is appropriate to go to the administrator in that building: principal, counselor etc., or If you have a child who has a section 504 accommodation plan or an IEP use those processes to have your concerns heard Make your requests known in written form and continue up the chain of command in the school or district to make your concerns heard and have your child's needs met In the end, parents have choices, if nothing is working, a different educational setting or different situation altogether may be best to meet their child's needs and reduce the stress/difficulty that they are constantly having to deal with at the school

REWIND: How to Make BIG Money in Fine Wine

Mark My Words Podcast

Are you an entrepreneur out there who wants to know and invest in liquid assets like wine and see huge returns on your investment? In today's episode of Mark My Words, Mark and innovative entrepreneur and investor Daniel Gurr discuss in detail the opportunities in wine investment, how to store your wine to avoid damage, the benefits of investing in wine over other investments and why now is as good a time as any to begin to invest liquid assets. KEY TAKEAWAYS Financial markets and how the traditional remit of investments have changed over the past decade. That's due to financial market volatility and of course, the environments of record-low interest rates we find ourselves in, so traditional investors are starting to look outside the mainstream box and adopt strategies within alternative asset classes. Fine wine has characteristics which enable the markets to have a very low correlation to other financial markets. With, of course, the trajectory of the market over the past 10 years, we've got consistency, of course, with the market being demanded by the higher echelons, which is increasing year by year is a good time to invest into the asset class itself. You might come into the market and ask how is the price going to keep on going up in value? The fine wine market has two very unique characteristics. It has an ever-increasing demand because of course, it's a consumable asset, but it's also an asset that increases its quality over some time. So straight away what we've got here is a market that's got finite supply, ever-increasing demand because the wine is maturing, but it's also got an ever-decreasing supply. The best thing about fine wine is that it works off a compound interest formula. It's interest upon interest upon interest. So in your first year from that asset, you might see eight to 10% but come that second year, the circulation is decreasing. All of the client's wine is stored and insured and as long as it's stored in HMRC regulated facility, the wine will stay in that bonded warehouse for remaining of its life. So, therefore, duty and capital gains tax are not applicable. If you had two investors that wanted to come up to you and invest into property, one was a complete novice and never invested into a property before, you're probably not going to introduce them to an HMO or commercial conversion, whereas if you've got someone that has been in property, they've got a background in property, you would introduce them to something different, and that's the same for wine. They can sort of diversify and get into the slightly riskier stuff and make higher returns once their knowledge grows. Red wine is at the core of investment, what about white wine investment? That is more so into a specialist market. What we advise clients is we look at the red wine because of course, with regards to that it all comes back to history and with ourselves, if we're putting our name to what we're suggesting you as you can appreciate, we have to know the full corporate background of that particular wine and it's not to say white wines don't go up in value but of course, they don't have the history and they don't have the corporate background to what red wine has. Where and how do you store wine? There are a few storage facilities in the UK. They're HMRC regulated facility. They're holding it 13 degrees here, away from sunlight, away from the vibration. If you're going to store wine yourself, it has to be stored at the right temperature. As long as you keep red wine at a consistent temperature, because if you've got the uncertainty affecting that wine, that there will be an effect there. There are different subsidiaries, you've got Octavian, you've got LTB and you've got AHD just to name a few, but I'd be phoning them and asking them how this business is? How long have you been working with that particular company? Would you say they're credible? And get their opinion. Also ask the question, "Do you have a wine that you're trading to me? Is this currently in your account?" Or are they taking your funds and then going out to source the stock. Why is wine better or not better than other physical assets? The direct answer to that is fine wine has characteristics that other collectables and other alternative investments don't have and that would be fine wine matures as time goes on. So it has an ever-increasing demand, but because it's a consumable asset, there will be a time where the availability of that wine is going to run out. BEST MOMENTS “Bullshit baffles brain.” “The quality of the wine improves over time as it gets older unlike a watch or a car.” “As people drink it, there is less of it, therefore; the supply side and the demand side should become more favourable over time pushing the price up.” “I believe fine wine is a great way to insulate your wealth when there is economic uncertainty and even more so than gold.” “Fine wine is inverse to cyclical trends and cyclical trends being traditional re-investments.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Book called Investing Into Liquid Assets ABOUT THE GUEST Daniel Gurr is an entrepreneur helping people reach their financial objectives by creating innovative and exciting strategies. The four of them were on the football team, talking about whatever. Then the subject of Christian's upcoming date came up. “Hey, how come you're not telling us you got a date for Saturday night?” Eric Danvers asked. “How come we gotta hear about these things from Chelsea?” Christian groaned. “Why does my little sister always have to be such a pain?” “So about this date of yours . . .” Matthew Martinson inquired. Jeffrey “Moose” Keegan put his hands up to his pecs and pretended to squeeze. “Does she have tits?” he rumbled. Christian groaned again. “Man, Moose, you may be the biggest guy on our football team, but you got the dirtiest mind, too.” Moose grinned mischievously. “Hey, a girl's gotta have tits, brother. That's just the way us men are. The bigger, the better . . .” “You do realize you're probably going to die alone, right?” Christian asked, half-serious. Moose reached out and playfully shoved Christian's shoulder. “C'mon, bro! Quit holding out here! Who is she? What's she like?” He grinned mischievously again. “And does she have tits?” When Christian realized his football brothers weren't going to back off, he finally conceded. “Fine, you bastards . . . Her name is Chloe Anne Carmichael. I met her when we had our game with Strickfield High here a few weeks ago.” “Whoa, dude! You're really going out with a chick from Strickfield?” Eric asked. “Isn't that like . . . I don't know . . . dating the enemy or something?” Christian pointed to him. “It ain't no different than that cheerleader you're seeing from Pendleton High.” Eric raised his hands up in front of him. “Okay, okay . . .” Christian continued. “So, we just beat Strickfield High and finished our showers. I was all set to get in my car and head out. Then I saw this other car with the hood up . . . and a girl underneath it. I went over to help her. Then she came out from under the hood and looked at me. I swear, she looks like she's right out of the 50s! I mean she's wearing a red-and-white polka-dot dress that goes down just past her knees. She's even wearing those black-and-white shoes. You know . . . with the black across the middle.” He pointed to Matthew. “Your older sister has shoes like that.” “Yeah, she does. Except Bethany's into the 60s,” Matthew shared. “Okay, go on.” Christian pointed quickly at Matthew. “And she looks exactly like Betty! From those Betty and Veronica comics your sister loves to read!” Moose shot up out of his seat. “Oh, come on! What, you think we're stupid or something? There ain't no girl who looks like she's right outta –” But Christian shut him up when he brought up her picture on his smartphone and let everybody look at it for a moment. “Now do you believe me?” “Damn! She really does look like Betty,” Matthew agreed. “Wait'll Bethany hears about this.” Moose leaned in. “This is just her face. Does she have tits?” Christian groaned. “Okay, Moose! Yes! Okay? She's a girl, and girls have tits. Okay?” Moose grinned. “But are they big ones?” Christian gave him the finger, getting a laugh from everybody. Then he got back to the subject. “Anyway, she had a loose wire under the hood. I fixed it for her. Then we got to talking for a while. We got each other's phone numbers. We started texting and video chatting. Now we got a date for Saturday night. I'm going to pick her up at her place. She lives in the woods with her family just outside Strickfield.” Then everybody just looked at Christian. Christian just looked at everybody in return. “What?!” “Man, you got your head up your ass or something?” Eric asked. “Don't you know there are stories about those backwoods of Strickfield? You don't want to be heading in there – especially at night.” Christian groaned. “Seriously, what's there to be scared of in those woods? I mean, come on . . . Strickfield's own mayor lives in those woods. He still makes it to work every day, right?” Matthew pointed at him. “But there have been stories about things that have happened in those woods. Stories about people dying out there . . . and even a few of them coming back to life. And then there are the stories about creatures lurking around in there. And even cannibals! There are just stories on top of stories.” Eric pointed to Christian's smartphone. “You should just text her and cancel, or have her meet you somewhere.” Christian groaned again. “Come on, you guys! Really?! All those stories are just superstitious horseshit. I'm going on my date with Chloe Anne Carmichael on Saturday – end of discussion!” Almost nobody said much of anything after Christian's declaration. Even when they finished their lunches and headed back to North Ridgeway High for their afternoon classes . . . Christian was driving through the woods on Saturday night and following the directions that his smartphone's GPS was giving him. Christian did have to admit these woods near Strickfield did look quite spooky and seemed to stretch on for miles and miles. Or maybe it was just the consistent fog that had a foreboding presence seemingly everywhere. Still, he was willing to suffer a few heebie jeebies to get to Chloe Anne Carmichael's house. “Prepare to turn left on Township Road 34 in one quarter mile!” Christian gasped and pointed a shaky finger at his smartphone. Then he shook his head slowly. He couldn't believe how he'd let his football brothers get to him. This wasn't Halloween, for crying out loud! This was a date with a really hot girl who just happened to look like a hot classic female comic book character. Still, he kept his head on and made the turn when his GPS told him to. It wasn't much longer after that when he had finally reached his destination. Christian just sat in the car when he saw the Carmichael farmhouse. There were barely any lights on inside, and the fog really seemed murky and dismal around the farmhouse and huge yard. He even saw some cars that had been gathered near the barn. He started to wonder if anyone was even home. He was almost wondering if maybe he should just turn the car around and head back to North Ridgeway. Suddenly, the porch room at the front entrance came ablaze with light. And then the door opened. Christian felt his spirits lift when he saw Chloe Anne Carmichael step outside. He got out of the car and went to meet her. “Chloe Anne, hi!” Christian said. “I hope I'm not late. It's a bit foggy out here.” Christian thought Chloe Anne was truly breathtaking. She was wearing the very same red dress with white polka dots and those same shoes from the night he had first met her. She wore her blond hair down; the last time she wore it in a ponytail. For a brief moment, he remembered Moose talking about tits and noticed that Chloe Anne weren't too badly stacked. Chloe Anne pointed to the car. “Could you shut that off for a smiggen? My parents wanna meet you.” “Uh-oh . . .” Christian uttered jokingly. Chloe Anne smiled. “Oh, ain't nothin' weird. They just wanna know who I'm goin' out with tonight.” She sighed. “They wanna know who they gotta shoot ifin you don't bring me back home on time.” When Christian looked at her with wide eyes, she burst out laughing. “Ahm just kiddin', silly. My parents still wanna meet ya, though.” Christian obeyed Chloe Anne and was soon in the living room where the rest of the Carmichael family was seated. Her parents were in recliners and a younger girl sat on the couch. Mr. Carmichael gestured to the couch. “Have a seat, son.” As soon as both he and Chloe Anne were seated, Mr. Carmichael spoke to Christian again. “Look, Ah don't know what yer intentions are with my eldest daughter here. But Ahm gonna trust her decision on ya.” Christian quickly raised his hands up in front of him. “Sir, I just want to take Chloe Anne out on a date. I'll have her back whenever you say she's got to be back. Seriously, I really like her and just want to get to know her. That's all.” Both parents studied him for a moment. Even the youngest daughter, Hannah, just gave him an odd look. Also, he didn't want to let his football brothers get the best of him, but he could swear . . . that they were all a little pale. Even Chloe Anne . . . Again, he was not going to let the guys get to him about the backwoods of Strickfield legends. Mr. Carmichael seemed to consider Christian. “Okay! Again, Ah trust my baby girl here. Chloe Anne's old enough to know what she's doin'. She seems to be real into you too.” Then he said to Chloe Anne, “You sure he's whatcha want, darlin'?” Chloe Anne smiled from ear to ear. “Oh, ah do. Ah do ah do ah do . . .” Mr. Carmichael clapped his hands together once. “Okay, then! You youngins have yourselves a good time tonight!” “Um, what time do you want me to have her back by, Sir?” Christian asked. Mr. Carmichael just looked at him and smiled. “Ah really do appreciate ya callin' me Sir. Yes, I do.” Then he seemed to think. “Well . . . now Ahd say that be up to the botha ya. 'Cause Ah git the feelin' your really gonna get to know my baby girl real well – real soon!” He waved them off. “Outcha go! Have fun!” Christian wondered what he might have gotten himself into, but he quickly drove that thought out of his head when he felt Chloe Anne taking his hand. “Let's go, honey.” The two of them were about to leave the house. Then Chloe Anne stopped him. “Hey, ya know what? Ah almost forgot! Wait right here.” Chloe Anne turned and went into the kitchen. She returned with a large picnic basket. “Ah was thinkin' we can have ourselves a little picnic, you an me. I even know this romantic little spot that'll just set the mood. It ain't far from here.” Christian smiled. “Let's go.” Christian couldn't believe he was having a picnic dinner with Chloe Anne . . . in the heart of a swamp! Still, the fire circle that Chloe Anne set up and lit seemed to give it more of a romantic ambiance, even with the fog. The swamp was quiet for the most part. It didn't even bother Christian that he hadn't heard a single cricket chirping or even a bird fluttering. It was just the two of them with their picnic dinner and their conversation. The two of them hadn't touched their food yet. Actually, they had been talking for a little while. Christian realized that he was really into Chloe Anne. He wasn't caring so much that she was a backwoods girl. He even seemed to be mesmerized by her hazel eyes that glowed next to their fire. Then it happened! Chloe Anne suddenly leaned in and caught Christian with a peck on the lips. Then the peck turned into another . . . and another . . . and then into a full-blown make-out session. Chloe Anne was on top of him as they held each other. Christian had been with other girls in the past, but none of them were taking his breath away the way Chloe Anne Carmichael was. If anything, her body felt like a perfect fit in his arms. The two of them made out for quite a while, almost never stopping to catch a breath. Chloe Anne's kisses were both hungry and needy. Christian wondered how far things would go with Chloe Anne. And then . . . Christian got his answer. He was still flat on his back when Chloe Anne stood up. To his surprise, she unzipped the back her dress and let it fall. He gasped to see that she was quite naked! For a brief moment, Moose came back into his mind again. Yes, Chloe Anne most certainly had tits! Chloe Anne knelt down and helped him out of his varsity jacket. “C'mon, honey. It ain't like you didn't wanna go this far with me.” “But . . . your parents . . .” he sputtered. “. . . ain't gonna care one way or another,” she finished. Christian was powerless to resist Chloe Anne and allowed her to help get him naked with her. They were holding each other again before Chloe Anne took charge and initiated their intimacy. The two of them shared intimacy again and again. Chloe Anne just couldn't seem to get enough. Her skin felt so soft, yet unbelievably cool – and they were next to the fire circle. The last thing Christian remembered before he fell asleep was holding Chloe Anne in his arms . . . Christian woke up quickly and realized two things. The first was that it was morning. The second was that he was in an unfamiliar bedroom. Then he looked down to see Chloe Anne was sleeping soundly next to him and wearing only an oversized blouse, loosely buttoned. He wondered how the two of them had moved from the swamp and into . . . her bed? Suddenly, Christian felt his stomach growling like he'd never felt it growl before. He groaned and wrapped his arms around his midsection. Then Chloe Anne woke up. “Christian?” “We never ate your picnic last night,” he joked. “I'm just feeling really hungry.” Chloe Anne quickly moved over him and got out of bed. Then she grabbed his hand. “C'mon with me! Right now!” “Okay, okay . . .” He got up and let Chloe Anne escort him through the house and into the kitchen. Chloe Anne opened the refrigerator door and pulled something out . . . a human forearm and hand!!! “Eat this! Right now!” Christian shrieked. “What the fuck?!” He wondered what the joke was, but Chloe Anne didn't look like she was joking. “Ah mean it, Christian. Y'all need to eat this right now!” “Well . . . gasp . . . we can go out for breakfast,” he stammered. Chloe Anne shook her head slowly. “We cain't eat that shit! We means you too now, honey.” Christian's stomach tightened so hard and made him groan in such agonizing pain that he actually found himself accepting her offering and biting deep into the forearm. He was surprised at how . . . delicious it really tasted. He kept eating hungrily. Then he saw Chloe Anne pulling out another forearm and hand and joining him. When he'd finished eating his portion, Chloe Anne immediately took his hand. She led him down into the cellar and to a walk-in refrigerator. She brought him inside and handed Christian a whole human leg. “Y'all gotta keep eatin', honey,” she said. “You gotta eat until yer full, what with it bein' yer first time an all.” As the two of them sat and continued to eat, Christian felt the need to ask, “What's going on here, Chloe Anne? Why are we doing this?!” “Thought you'd never ask.” She took a last bite off the leg she was feasting on. “Yer just like me now.” She dropped the bones and took both of his hands in hers. “Yer with me now, Christian. Yer parta the family now.” When Christian's unfinished leg had fallen to the floor, Chloe Anne quickly picked it up and handed it back to him. “Sorry, honey. Keep eatin'!” As much as Christian wanted to put what he was eating down, he found himself obeying Chloe Anne. He had gone through almost an entire human body before he was finally full. Chloe Anne herself didn't have to eat nearly that much. Christian looked to her to finish her explanation. “Like Ah told ya, Christian, yer just like me now,” she told him. “Like Ah said, yer parta my family now.” Christian looked dumbfounded. Chloe Anne was patient. “Oh, Ah get it. You don't know everythin'. Well, Ahm gonna teach ya all ya need to know.” “Are . . . are we . . . zombies?!” Christian choked out. Chloe Anne smirked a little and shook her head. “Close, honey. We're like zombies in many ways, but . . . what we are . . . is ghouls. We gotta feed on humans to survive. Key word! Survive! See, ifin we don't eat when we gotta eat, then we're real zombies. As in you'll waste away until you fall apart and there ain't no goin' back.” Christian just looked at Chloe Anne. Then he groaned as he got up and ran up the stairs. He turned to the back door and ran outside. Chloe Anne chased after him. They both ran away from the house. Much to his surprise, he was running faster than he'd ever ran in his life. What was more, Chloe Anne could run even faster than him and eventually tackled him near the edge of the swamp. “Get off me!” Christian shouted. Chloe Anne wouldn't move. In fact, she grabbed his arms and pinned him down. “Now y'all listen to me, honey. You and me, we're both ghouls. You belong with me now. Ah made you.” Christian went limp. “You . . . what?!” Then his eyes were opened wide when he saw how close her exposed cleavage was to his face. “You become a ghoul in one a two ways. One, like me . . . you're born as one. That's right, I been a ghoul since comin' outta Mama. The second way . . . ?” Christian caught on fast. “When we had sex . . .” “Oh, I loved you real good,” she confirmed. “I coulda probably bit you, but it's gotta be done in just the right place and makes a real mess. I ain't real good at doin' that, so it was easier for me to just love you good and turn you. Besides, ya know ya loved it.” Chloe Anne got off Christian and let him stand up. Then he groaned. “You fucked me . . . and turned me into a . . . a zombie?!” She laughed. “No! A ghoul!” Then she sighed patiently. “Daddy said it was gonna be tough teachin' ya, but Ah gotta do it. 'Cause I made ya and yer just like me now.” Christian listened as Chloe Anne explained things. For one thing, ghouls didn't shamble like zombies. They could walk and run. In fact, ghouls could be civilized and live almost-normal lives. The Carmichaels remained in isolation and only took living humans who dared to venture into the backwoods of Strickfield, which seemed quite plentiful. As far as the humans who already lived there, they were left alone because the wrong people might ask questions and possibly come in to investigate. Chloe Anne also explained that ghouls were like their vampire cousins in many ways. While vampires drank blood to sustain themselves, ghouls needed to eat humans. Chloe Anne removed her oversized blouse. Christian was again shocked to see her naked. Chloe Anne rolled her eyes. “We gotta take a bath and clean up after we ate good and done run out here, Christian. Now come on in with me.” Again, he obeyed her and got naked. Chloe Anne laughed a little when she saw that he clearly desired her again. “Well, okay, honey, we can play for a smiggen.” She picked up her blouse and pulled out few condoms. “Ya'll better use these . . . unless you wanna make a little baby ghoulie with me.” Christian accepted the condoms from her and put one on before he went into the water with Chloe Anne. They had finished cleaning up and having sex when they came out of the water. As soon as they finished putting on what clothes they had, they heard a loud gunshot. “Aw, foo!” Chloe Anne muttered. “I'm thinkin' that Strickfield mayor done seen us. We better run, honey.” Another gunshot whizzed right past Christian, almost touching his nose. “Shit!!!” Christian turned and ran off. Chloe Anne knew she needed to go after him. It wasn't too long after that the mayor of Strickfield, Patrick Gunter, stepped out of the shadows. He tightened his jaw and grunted. “God damn zombies on my property again . . .” He readied his rifle again and moved along. Chloe Anne called out to Christian to stop, but he was too scared to listen to reason. Again, she proved to be his superior by catching up to him and tackling him. “Stop, Christian!” Christian finally stopped. He was really angry now. “Why?! Why, Chloe Anne? Why would you do this to me? Did I piss you off or something?” Christian wanted to heave in anger, but he realized he no longer breathed. His anger turned to sadness. “I was a really good football player at North Ridgeway High. I think I even had a good shot at a full ride to college. I had my whole life ahead of me.” He looked at her. “I suppose you've heard this before.” She shook her head. “Nope! Ah don't go round makin' other ghouls the way I made you. We'd have a real mess. An Daddy wouldn't be none too happy.” “Then why me, Chloe Anne?” Chloe Anne just simply smiled, took firm hold of his face, and kissed his lips softly. Christian couldn't help easing his arms around her and kissing her back. They kissed passionately for a long while. When they came apart, they looked into each other's eyes. “Now ya understand, Christian?” Chloe Anne asked. “Y'all came to me when I needed help that night. Ya talked and kept talkin' with me. Ya made me love ya, ya did. I told Daddy I wanted you an why. He gave me his blessin'. We did some lovin with each other, an I turned ya. Now yer with me forever an ever . . . like marriage. In fact, you an me . . . we're married now.” She raised her finger. “Ghoul law!” “But . . . we don't really know each other that well to be married,” Christian pointed out. Chloe Anne kissed his lips again. “We been man an wife twice now, honey. And it feels to me like you wanna be man an wife again. Face it, Christian . . . ya ain't leavin' me. Ain't makin' no threat here. You'll stay here with me 'cause ya wanna.” Christian gave Chloe Anne that look that told her she was probably right. After all, how many of his past girlfriends had treated him the same way Chloe Anne had? True, they weren't ghouls, but this particular ghoul had feelings and knew what she wanted out of life . . . or was it the afterlife? He would have many years to figure that one out, wouldn't he? Suddenly, the two of them heard another gunshot. Christian felt the bullet go right the back of his head. He even saw it go through Chloe Anne. “It's that dang mayor again!” Chloe Anne complained. She quickly grabbed hold of Christian's hand. “We gotta run, honey. Snap out of it, dang t!” She only needed to slap the back of his head hard to bring him back to reality. Christian shrieked repeatedly, “Ican'tdothisIcan'tdothisIcan'tdothisIcan'tdothisIcan'tdothis!!” He ran away from Chloe Anne in a general direction. He heard another gunshot which completely closed out anything that Chloe Anne was yelling his way right then and there. “I'm getting the hell out of here and heading back home! I ain't staying out here! The others were right! I never should have come out here!” He was so frightened that he couldn't stop running. He even managed to lose Chloe Anne this time. He made it back to her farmhouse and found his car right where he'd left it. He jumped into the car to find the keys were still in the ignition. He fired up the motor and got the hell out of there as fast as he could – and without killing anybody along the way with his crazy driving. Christian pulled in at his house and went to go inside. His mother was busy at the stove and cooking barbeque chicken – his favorite. The only problem was that he wasn't really wanting it. He wanted it, yes, but his stomach was telling him a big fat hell no! After having a brief argument with his mom about the way he was dressed, he went straight up to his room and put on some fresh clothes. Then he went back out and went behind the garage. It was then when he smelled something sweet, like candy. It wasn't long before he found that he had a visitor. At first, he thought Chloe Anne had finally caught up with him, but instead . . . “Moose? What's up?” Christian asked. “Just in the neighborhood, man. Smelled your mom was cooking barbeque chicken again,” he replied in his growling voice. “Well, go on inside and go have some,” Christian invited. How could Moose smell his mom's barbeque chicken when all he could smell was sweet candy? Moose was about to turn away to take him up on his offer, but then he remembered. “Hey, bro, how did that date with that Chloe Anne chick go? And I'm surprised you made it back from those fucking woods.” Before he could answer, he gave him a brotherly tap on his shoulder. “And does she have tits?” Christian really wasn't sure how to answer him. The problem was that NO!! he hadn't made it out of those backwoods. At least not as himself. He was a ghoul now – turned by Chloe Anne. He'd had incredible sex with that amazing girl! Now he was a ghoul just like her as a result of . . . What?! . . . some form of V.D. that she'd passed to him. Then he'd taken that bullet to the head . . . And that smell of sweet candy was really strong now . . . ! “Wait a minute! Moose! Do I look okay to you?!” Christian asked. Moose looked at him like he was crazy. “Well . . . You kinda look a little pale, but . . .” He made a Neanderthal grin and pointed right at Christian. “Oh ho ho! You fucked her, didn't you?! You really fucked her! C'mon, bro. Tell me! Was she good? And does she have tits?” Then Moose felt a soft tapping on his shoulder. They both turned to see Chloe Anne Carmichael standing before them. She smiled simply and said to Moose, “Oh, Ah got me tits, sugah!” Chloe Anne leapt onto Moose and took a big bite out of his neck. She had her hand on his mouth to muffle his screams. When Moose fell onto his back, Christian knelt down beside Chloe Anne and began to eat with her. Moose was definitely big enough to satisfy the both of them. Christian's parents never set foot outside or came out behind the garage. That night, Chloe Anne came in through the front door holding Christian's hand. “Oh, Mama . . . ? Daddy . . . ? We're home!” she called out. “In here, kids,” Mrs. Carmichael called back. “Dinner's ready!” The two of them found the rest of the family in the dining room. There was a naked couple tied to the table. “Aw, y'all didn't hafta wait none for us,” Chloe Anne said softly. “We eat as a family, Chloe Anne,” Mr. Carmichael reminded her. Then he said to Christian. “That goes for you too, son, now that yer parta the family.” When Christian realized that Chloe Anne had easily found him, he knew there was no point in resisting her or what he now was. When he'd asked his new wife how she'd found him, she simply told him, “Why, silly, Ah coulda found ya any one a two ways. The easy way woulda been to look in yer wallet since ya left it behind. But Ahm a ghoul, honey, and yer my man. Ah made you, so naturally . . . Ah can smell you. Don't matter none where you are in the world. And Ah know y'all could smell me comin' for ya. Face it, honey, it's you an me – together forever an ever to the end.” Christian realized that being with Chloe Anne wasn't as bad as it seemed. He was part of a family that truly cared for its own. He'd been shot in the head and was still alive. Chloe Anne explained that he could have had his brains blown out, but he would have lived as long as he would have been fed or given human blood to help in the regeneration process. In the beginning he felt bad for the people he would have to eat in order to sustain himself. But he was a ghoul, and that was his new . . . afterlife now. Christian and Chloe Anne stayed on at the farm. He even took her last name. Over time, he would come to learn from the Carmichaels that nothing was more important than family . . . even if you are ghouls. As for the mayor of Strickfield, Patrick Gunter . . . he still didn't like the idea of zombies coming onto his property. Hollow Earth Theory   Well hello there passengers, and welcome to yet another exciting day aboard the MidnightTrain. Today we delve deep into the mysterious, creepy, possibly conspiratorial world that is our own. What do I mean by that? Well we are digging our way to the center of truth! Today, we learn about Hollow Earth… and for the flat earthers out there… you're gonna wanna hang out for a minute before you dip outta here… also fuck you.   (Cinematic trailer voice) In a World where there exists people who think the world is a flat piece of paper with trees growing out of it and a big guy who flips the piece of paper over to switch between day and night. One man wants to change that idea. His name… is Edmund Halley. Yes that Halley. The one known for the comet he discovered. But before we explore more about him and his findings, let's discuss what led us to this revolutionary hypothesis.   So besides idiots who believe the earth is flat, I mean stupid-endous personalities, there are other more interesting characters that believe the earth is completely hollow; or at least a large part of it. This is what we call the Hollow Earth Theory. Now where did this all come from? Well, nobody cares, Moody. That's the show folks!   Ok, ok, ok… fine. Since the early times many cultures, religions, and folklore believed that there was something below our feet. Whether it's the lovely and tropical Christian Hell, the Jungle-esque Greek Underworld, the balmy Nordic Svartálfaheim, or the temperate Jewish Sheol; there is a name for one simple idea. These cultures believed it to be where we either come from or where we go when we die. This may hold some truth, or not. Guess we will know more when the time comes.   The idea of a subterranean realm is also mentioned in Tibetan Buddhist belief. According to one story from Tibetan Buddhist tradition, there is an ancient city called Shamballa which is located inside the Earth. According to the Ancient Greeks, there were caverns under the surface which were entrances leading to the underworld, some of which were the caverns at Tainaron in Lakonia, at Troezen in Argolis, at Ephya in Thesprotia, at Herakleia in Pontos, and in Ermioni. In Thracian and Dacian legends, it is said that there are caverns occupied by an ancient god called Zalmoxis. In Mesopotamian religion there is a story of a man who, after traveling through the darkness of a tunnel in the mountain of "Mashu", entered a subterranean garden. Sounds lovely.  In Celtic mythology there is a legend of a cave called "Cruachan", also known as "Ireland's gate to Hell", a mythical and ancient cave from which according to legend strange creatures would emerge and be seen on the surface of the Earth. They are said to be bald, taller than most with blue eyes and a big, bushy beard… fucking Moody. There are also stories of medieval knights and saints who went on pilgrimages to a cave located in Station Island, County Donegal in Ireland, where they made journeys inside the Earth into a place of purgatory. You guys know purgatory, that place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of sinners who are shedding their sins before going to heaven. In County Down, Northern Ireland there is a myth which says tunnels lead to the land of the subterranean Tuatha Dé Danann, who are supposedly a group of people who are believed to have introduced Druidism to Ireland, and then they said fuck it and went back underground. In Hindu mythology, the underworld is referred to as Patala. In the Bengali version of the Hindu epic Ramayana, it has been depicted how Rama and Lakshmana were taken by the king of the underworld Ahiravan, brother of the demon king Ravana. Later on they were rescued by Hanuman. Got all that? The Angami Naga tribes of India claim that their ancestors emerged in ancient times from a subterranean land inside the Earth. The Taino from Cuba believe their ancestors emerged in ancient times from two caves in a mountain underground. Natives of the Trobriand Islands believe that their ancestors had come from a subterranean land through a cavern hole called "Obukula". Mexican folklore also tells of a cave in a mountain five miles south of Ojinaga, and that Mexico is possessed by devilish creatures who came from inside the Earth. Maybe THAT'S where the Chupacabra came from! In the middle ages, an ancient German myth held that some mountains located between Eisenach and Gotha hold a portal to the inner Earth. A Russian legend says the Samoyeds, an ancient Siberian tribe, traveled to a cavern city to live inside the Earth. Luckily, they had plenty of space rope to make it back out.  The Italian writer Dante describes a hollow earth in his well-known 14th-century work Inferno, in which the fall of Lucifer from heaven caused an enormous funnel to appear in a previously solid and spherical earth, as well as an enormous mountain opposite it, "Purgatory". There's that place, again. In Native American mythology, they believed that the ancestors of the Mandan people in ancient times emerged from a subterranean land through a cave at the north side of the Missouri River. There is also a tale about a tunnel in the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona near Cedar Creek which is said to lead inside the Earth to a land inhabited by a mysterious tribe. It is also the belief of the tribes of the Iroquois that their ancient ancestors emerged from a subterranean world inside the Earth. The elders of the Hopi people believe that a Sipapu entrance in the Grand Canyon exists which leads to the underworld. Brazilian Indians, who live alongside the Parima River in Brazil, claim that their forefathers emerged in ancient times from an underground land, and that many of their ancestors still remained inside the Earth. Ancestors of the Inca supposedly came from caves which are located east of Cuzco, Peru. So, this is something that has been floating around a shit ton of ancient mythos for a long ass time. Well, ya know… before that silly thing called SCIENCE. Moving on. Now to circle back to our friend Edmund. He was born in 1656, in Haggerston in Middlesex (not to be confused with uppersex or its ill-informed cousin the powerbottomsex). He was an English astronomer, geophysicist, mathematician, meteorologist, and physicist; because what else was there to do in the 1600's but be a know-it-all? He was known to work with Sir Isaac Newton among other notable (but not gonna note them here) proponents to science.  In 1692 he proffered the idea that the earth was indeed hollow and had a shell about 500 miles thick with two inner concentric (having a common center, as circles or spheres… hear that flat earthers??) shells and an inner core. He proposed that the atmospheres separated the shells and that they also had their own magnetic poles and that the shells moved at different speeds. This idea was used to elucidate(shed light upon… yes pun intended) anomalous(ih-nom-uh-luhs) compass readings. He conceptualized that the inner region had its own atmosphere and possibly luminous with plausible inhabitants. MOLE PEOPLE!! He also thought that escaping gases from the inner earth caused what is now known as the Northern Lights.   Now another early ambassador to this idea was Le Clerc Milfort. Jean-Antoine Le Clerc, or known by a simpler name, Louis Milfort. Monsieur Milfort was a higher ranking French military officer who offered his services during the late 1700's. He is most notably known for leading Creek Indian warriors during the American Revolutionary War as allies of the British. I guess having a common enemy here would make sense as to why he chose this group to lead. He emigrated in 1775 to what was then known as the British Colonies of North America. But we all know there is nothing Bri'ish about us.    Now why would a higher ranking French military Officer want to emigrate from his home to a place of turmoil? Great question Moody! I knew you were paying attention. Well, a little about this French saboteur.   He was known by many aliases, but we will just stick with Louis (Louie) for all intents and purposes. Louis was born in Thin-le-Moutier, near Mezieres, France. He served in the French Military from 1764 to 1774. Now this is according to his memoir that was dated in 1802. He left France after he ended up killing a servant of the king's household in a duel. Apparently, the king's servant loved the king. So much so that when Louis read aloud a poem that he had written that included the king, the servant jumped up, tore off his glove and slapped Louis across the face not once, but 4 fucking times! This is obviously something that Louis could not just let happen, so he challenged the servant to a duel. Not just any duel, mind you. He challenged him to a duel of what was then known as a “mort de coupes de papier.” The servant died an excruciating death and Louis fled. Here is the poem that started the feud.  There's a place in France Where the naked ladies dance There's a hole in the wall Where the men can see it all But the men don't care Cause they lost their underwear And the cops never shoot Cause they think it's kind of cute There a place in France Where the alligators dance If you give them a glance They could bite you in the pants There's a place on Mars Where the ladies smoke cigars Every puff she makes Is enough to kill the snakes When the snakes all die They put diamonds in their eye When the diamonds break The dancing makes them ache When the diamonds shine They really look so fine The king and the queen Have a rubber ding-a-ling All the girls in France Have ants in their pants Yes, this is 100% bullshit… but, you'll have that shit stuck in your head for days. Now as much as we tried to find ACTUAL information as to why there was duel and why it was with a servant of the king, we couldn't find much. But after digging up some more information on Louis we found out that he ended up going back to France to be a part of the Sacred Society of Sophisians.    This group is also known as the secret society of Napoleon's Sorcerers… This may have to be a bonus episode so stay tuned for more!   Now back to the “Core” of our episode. The Creek Indians who are originally from the Muscogee [məskóɡəlɡi](Thank wikipedia) area which is southeast united states which roughly translates to the areas around Tennessee, Alabama, western Georgia and Northern Florida. Louis adapted their customs and assimilated into their Tribe.  He even married the sister of the Chief.   Now after Louis and the rest of the people in the American Revolutionary War lost to the U.S. he decided to lead the Creek Tribe on an expedition in 1781 because, well, they had nothing else to do. On this expedition they were searching for caverns where allegedly the Creek Indians ancestors had emerged from. Maybe even the Origin of Bigfoot.   Yes, the Creek Indians had believed that their ancestors lived below the earth and lived in caverns along the Red River junction of the Mississippi River. Now during the expedition they did come across these caverns which they suspected could hold 20,000 of their family in. That's pretty much all they found. They didn't have video cameras back then otherwise, I'm pretty sure they would have found footage of bigfoot though.   Another advocate was Leonhard Euler, yes, you heard right. Buehler… Buehler… No Leonard Euler. A great 18th century mathematician; or not so great if you didn't enjoy math in school unlike moody who was the biggest nerd when it came to math.    Euler founded the study of graph theory and topology. No moody, not on-top-ology. Mind always in the gutter. Euler influenced many other discoveries such as analytic number theory, complex analysis, and the coolest subject ever; Infinitesimal Calculus. Which is Latin for BULLSHIT.   But anyways I digress. This guy knew his stuff BUT he did think with all his “infinite” wisdom that the earth was in fact hollow and had no inner shells but instead had a six hundred mile diameter sun in the center. The most intriguing and plausible theory he had within this whole idea was that you could enter into this interior from the northern and southern poles. Let's hold to that cool hypothesis for right now and move along with our next Interesting goon of the hollow earth community.   With Halley's spheres and Eulers's Holes came another great man with another great theory. Captain John Symmes! Yes you know Captain Symmes. HE was a hero in the war of 1812 after being sent with his Regiment to Canada and providing relief to American forces at the battle of Lundy's Lane. He was well known as a trader and lecturer after he left the army.    In 1818 Symmes announced his theory on Hollow Earth to the World! With his publication of his Circular No. 1.   “I declare the earth is hollow, and habitable within; containing a number of solid concentric spheres, one within the other, and that it is open at the poles 12 or 16 degrees; I pledge my life in support of this truth, and am ready to explore the hollow, if the world will support and aid me in the undertaking.”— John Cleves Symmes Jr., Symmes' Circular No. 1  While there were few people who would consider Symmes as the “Newton of the West”, most of the world was less than impressed. Although his theory wasn't as popular as one would expect, you gotta admire the confidence he had.   Symmes sent this declaration at a rather hefty cost to himself to “each notable foreign government, reigning prince, legislature, city, college, and philosophical societies, throughout the union, and to individual members of our National Legislature, as far as the five hundred copies would go.”15]   Symmes would then be followed by an exorbitant amount of ridicule for his proclamation, as many intellectuals were back then. This ridicule would later influence a rather bold move, Cotton. We'll touch on this later.    What was so special about his theory that got 98% of the world not on the edge of their seats? Well, to start he believed the Earth had five concentric spheres with where we live to be the largest  of the spheres. He also believed that the crust was 1000 miles thick with an arctic opening about 4000 miles wide and an antarctic opening around 6000 miles wide. He argued that because of the centrifugal force of the Earth's rotation that the poles would be flattened which would cause such a gradual gradation that you would travel into the Hollow Earth without even knowing you even did it.   Eventually he refined his theory because of such ridicule and criticism. Now his theory consists of just a single hollow sphere instead of five concentric spheres. So, now that we know all about symmes and his theory, why don't we talk about what he decided to do with his theory?    What do you think, Moody? You think he created a cult so he could be ostracized? Or do you think he gave up and realized he was silly? Hate to be the bearer of bad news here but he decided to take his theory and convince the U.S. congress to fund and organize an expedition to the south pole to enter the inner earth.    Good news and bad news folks. Good news, congress back then actually had some people with heads on their shoulders as opposed to those today and they said fuck that noise and denied funding for his expedition. Hamilton, Ohio even has a monument to him and his ideas. Fuckin' Ohio. Next up on our list of “what the fuck were they thinking?” We have Jeremiah Reynolds. He also delivered lectures on the "Hollow Earth" and argued for an expedition. I guess back in those days people just up and went to the far reaches of the earth just to prove a point. Reynolds said “look what I can do” and went on an expedition to Antarctica himself but missed joining the Great U.S. Exploring Expedition of 1838–1842, even though that venture was a result of his craziness, I MEAN “INTEREST”. He gained support from marine and scientific societies and, in 1828, successfully lobbied the House of Representatives to pass a resolution asking then-President John Quincy Adams to deploy a research vessel to the Pacific. The president, for his part, had first mentioned Reynolds in his November 4, 1826, diary entry, writing: “Mr Reynolds is a man who has been lecturing about the Country, in support of Captain John Cleves Symmes's theory that the Earth is a hollow Sphere, open at the Poles— His Lectures are said to have been well attended, and much approved as exhibitions of genius and of Science— But the Theory itself has been so much ridiculed, and is in truth so visionary, that Reynolds has now varied his purpose to the proposition of fitting out a voyage of circumnavigation to the Southern Ocean— He has obtained numerous signatures in Baltimore to a Memorial to Congress for this object, which he says will otherwise be very powerfully supported— It will however have no support in Congress. That day will come, but not yet nor in my time. May it be my fortune, and my praise to accelerate its approach.”  Adams' words proved prophetic. Though his administration opted to fund Reynolds' expedition, the voyage was waylaid by the 1828 presidential election, which found Adams roundly defeated by Andrew Jackson. The newly elected president canceled the expedition, leaving Reynolds to fund his trip through other sources. (The privately supported venture set sail in 1829 but ended in disaster, with the crew mutinying and leaving Reynolds' ass on shore.) Per Boston 1775, the U.S. Exploring Expedition only received the green light under the country's eighth president, Martin Van Buren. As Howard Dorre explains on his Plodding Through the Presidents blog, multiple media outlets (including Smithsonian, in an earlier version of this article) erroneously interpreted Adams' description of Reynolds' ideas as “visionary” as a sign of his support for the hollow earth theory. In fact, notes Bell in a separate Boston 1775 blog post, the term's connotations at the time were largely negative. In the words of 18th-century English writer Samuel Johnson, a visionary was “one whose imagination is disturbed.” The president, adds Dorre, only agreed to support the polar expedition “after Reynolds abandoned the hollow earth idea.”  I had always heard that he was a believer in mole people and hollow earth, turns out his words were just misinterpreted. Hmm… I wonder if there are any other books out there where the overall ideas and verbage could and have been misinterpreted causing insane amounts of disingenuous beliefs? Nah!   Though Symmes himself never wrote a book about his ideas, several authors published works discussing his ideas. McBride wrote Symmes' Theory of Concentric Spheres in 1826. It appears that Reynolds has an article that appeared as a separate booklet in 1827: Remarks of Symmes' Theory Which Appeared in the American Quarterly Review. In 1868, a professor W.F. Lyons published The Hollow Globe which put forth a Symmes-like Hollow Earth hypothesis, but failed to mention Symmes himself. Because fuck that guy, right? Symmes's son Americus then published The Symmes' Theory of Concentric Spheres in 1878 to set the record straight. I think the duel would have been a better idea. Sir John Leslie proposed a hollow Earth in his 1829 Elements of Natural Philosophy (pp. 449–53). In 1864, in Journey to the Center of the Earth, Jules Verne described a hollow Earth containing two rotating binary stars, named Pluto and Proserpine. Ok… fiction. We get it. William Fairfield Warren, in his book Paradise Found–The Cradle of the Human Race at the North Pole, (1885) presented his belief that humanity originated on a continent in the Arctic called Hyperborea. This influenced some early Hollow Earth proponents. According to Marshall Gardner, both the Eskimo and Mongolian peoples had come from the interior of the Earth through an entrance at the North Pole. I wonder if they knew that.    NEQUA or The Problem of the Ages, first serialized in a newspaper printed in Topeka, Kansas in 1900 and considered an early feminist utopian novel, mentions John Cleves Symmes' theory to explain its setting in a hollow Earth. An early 20th-century proponent of hollow Earth, William Reed, wrote Phantom of the Poles in 1906. He supported the idea of a hollow Earth, but without interior shells or inner sun. Ok, no sun. Got it. The spiritualist writer Walburga, Lady Paget in her book Colloquies with an unseen friend (1907) was an early writer to mention the hollow Earth hypothesis. She claimed that cities exist beneath a desert, which is where the people of Atlantis moved. Mmmk. Deserts and Atlantis. Check. She said an entrance to the subterranean kingdom will be discovered in the 21st century. Pretty broad brush she's painting with there. Next up we're gonna talk a little about Admiral Richard E. Byrd. According to Hollow Earth theorists, Byrd met an ancient race underground in the South Pole. According to Byrd's “diary,” the government ordered Byrd to remain silent for what he witnessed during his Arctic assignment:              March 11, 1947 “I have just attended a Staff Meeting at the Pentagon. I have stated fully my discovery and the message from the Master. All is duly recorded. The President has been advised. I am now detained for several hours (six hours, thirty- nine minutes, to be exact.) I am interviewed intently by Top Security Forces and a Medical Team. It was an ordeal!!!! I am placed under strict control via the National Security provisions of this United States of America. I am ORDERED TO REMAIN SILENT IN REGARD TO ALL THAT I HAVE LEARNED, ON THE BEHALF OF HUMANITY!!! Incredible! I am reminded that I am a Military Man and I must obey orders.” After many polar accomplishments, Byrd organized Operation Highjump in 1947. The objective: construct an American training and research facility in the South Pole. Highjump was a significant illustration of the state of the world and the cold war thinking at the time. The nuclear age had just begun, and the real fears were that the Soviet Union would attack the United States over the North Pole. The Navy had done a training exercise there in the summer of 1946 and felt it needed to do more. The northern winter was coming, and Highjump was a quickly planned exercise to move the whole thing to the South Pole. Politically, the orders were that the Navy should do all it could to establish a basis for a [land] claim in Antarctica. That was classified at the time. Now Operation High jump could probably be its own episode, or is at minimum a bonus. But we'll get some of the important details on how it pertains to this episode. Some say the American government sent their troops to the South Pole for any evidence of the rumored German Base 211. Nazis were fascinated with anything regarding the Aryan race. They traveled all over the world including Antarctica to learn more of alleged origins. The Germans did make their mark in the South Pole. However, what they have discovered doesn't compared to what Byrd recorded in his diary. the time. The nuclear age had just begun, and the real fears were that the Soviet Union would attack the United States over the North Pole. The Navy had done a training exerci but was that all it was   “For thousands of years, people all over the world have written legends about Agartha (sometimes called Agarta or Agarthi), the underground city. Agartha (sometimes Agartta, Agharti, Agarath, Agarta or Agarttha) is a legendary kingdom that is said to be located in the Earth's core. Agartha is frequently associated or confused with Shambhala which figures prominently in Vajrayana Buddhism and Tibetan Kalachakra teachings and revived in the West by Madame Blavatsky and the Theosophical Society. Theosophists in particular regard Agarthi as a vast complex of caves underneath Tibet inhabited by demi-gods, called asuras. Helena and Nicholas Roerich, whose teachings closely parallel theosophy, see Shambhala's existence as both spiritual and physical. Did Byrd find it? He claims to have met “The Master,” the city's leader, who told him of his concerns about the surface world: “Our interest rightly begins just after your Race exploded the first atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. It was that alarming time we sent our flying machines, the ‘Flugelrads' to your surface world to investigate what your Race had done…You see, we have never interfered before in your Race's wars and barbarity. But now we must, for you have learned to tamper with a certain power that is not for your Man, mainly that of atomic energy. Our emissaries have already delivered messages to the power of your World, and yet they do not heed.” Apparently, the government knew about Agartha before Byrd. Marshall Gardner wrote A Journey to the Earth's Interior in 1913 and published an expanded edition in 1920. He placed an interior sun in the Earth (ah ha! The Sun's back!) and built a working model of the Hollow Earth which he actually fucking patented (U.S. Patent 1,096,102). Gardner made no mention of Reed, but did criticize Symmes for his ideas. DUEL TIME! Around the same time, Vladimir Obruchev wrote a novel titled Plutonia, in which the Hollow Earth possessed an inner Sun and was inhabited by prehistoric species. The interior was connected with the surface by an opening in the Arctic. The explorer Ferdynand Ossendowski wrote a book in 1922 titled Beasts, Men and Gods. Ossendowski said he was told about a subterranean kingdom that exists inside the Earth. It was known to Buddhists as Agharti. George Papashvily in his Anything Can Happen (1940) claimed the discovery in the Caucasus mountains of a cavern containing human skeletons "with heads as big as bushel baskets" and an ancient tunnel leading to the center of the Earth. One man entered the tunnel and never returned. This dude was a sniper with the Imperial Russian Army during World War I Moody is going to love these next examples.  Novelist Lobsang Rampa in his book The Cave of the Ancients said an underground chamber system exists beneath the Himalayas of Tibet, filled with ancient machinery, records and treasure. Michael Grumley, a cryptozoologist, has linked Bigfoot and other hominid cryptids to ancient tunnel systems underground. According to the ancient astronaut writer Peter Kolosimo a robot was seen entering a tunnel below a monastery in Mongolia. Kolosimo also claimed a light was seen from underground in Azerbaijan. Kolosimo and other ancient astronaut writers such as Robert Charroux linked these activities to DUN DUN DUNNNN….UFOs. A book by a "Dr. Raymond Bernard" which appeared in 1964, The Hollow Earth, exemplifies the idea of UFOs coming from inside the Earth, and adds the idea that the Ring Nebula proves the existence of hollow worlds, as well as speculation on the fate of Atlantis and the origin of flying saucers. An article by Martin Gardner revealed that Walter Siegmeister used the pseudonym "Bernard", but not until the 1989 publishing of Walter Kafton-Minkel's Subterranean Worlds: 100,000 Years of Dragons, Dwarfs, the Dead, Lost Races & UFOs from Inside the Earth did the full story of Bernard/Siegmeister become well-known. Holy fucking book title, Batman!   The science fiction pulp magazine Amazing Stories promoted one such idea from 1945 to 1949 as "The Shaver Mystery". The magazine's editor, Ray Palmer, ran a series of stories by Richard Sharpe Shaver, claiming that a superior pre-historic race had built a honeycomb of caves in the Earth, and that their degenerate descendants, known as "Dero", live there TO THIS DAY, using the fantastic machines abandoned by the ancient races to torment those of us living on the surface. As one characteristic of this torment, Shaver described "voices" that purportedly came from no explainable source. Thousands of readers wrote to affirm that they, too, had heard the fiendish voices from inside the Earth. The writer David Hatcher Childress authored Lost Continents and the Hollow Earth(1998) in which he reprinted the stories of Palmer and defended the Hollow Earth idea based on alleged (cough… “alleged”) tunnel systems beneath South America and Central Asia. Hollow Earth proponents have claimed a number of different locations for the entrances which lead inside the Earth. Other than the North and South poles, entrances in locations which have been cited include: Paris in France, Staffordshire in England, Montreal in Canada, Hangchow in China, and The Amazon Rain Forest.   Ok, have you two gents heard of the Concave Hollow Earth Theory? It doesn't matter, we're still going to talk about this lunacy. Instead of saying that humans live on the outside surface of a hollow planet—sometimes called a "convex" Hollow Earth hypothesis—some whackamuffins have claimed humans live on the inside surface of a hollow spherical world, so that our universe itself lies in that world's interior. This has been called the "concave" Hollow Earth hypothesis or skycentrism. Cyrus Teed, a doctor from upstate New York, proposed such a concave Hollow Earth in 1869, calling his scheme "Cellular Cosmogony". He might as well have called it Goobery Kabooblenuts. See, I can make up words, too. Anyway, Teed founded a group called the Koreshan Unity based on this notion, which he called Koreshanity. Which sounds like insanity and would make far more sense. The main colony survives as a preserved Florida state historic site, at Estero, Florida, but all of Teed's followers have now died. Probably from eating Tide Pods. Teed's followers claimed to have experimentally verified the concavity of the Earth's curvature, through surveys of the Florida coastline making use of "rectilineator" equipment. Which sounds like something you use to clean out your colon.   Several 20th-century German writers, including Peter Bender, Johannes Lang, Karl Neupert, and Fritz Braut, published works advocating the Hollow Earth hypothesis, or Hohlweltlehre. It has even been reported, although apparently without historical documentation, that Adolf Hitler was influenced by concave Hollow Earth ideas and sent an expedition in an unsuccessful attempt to spy on the British fleet by pointing infrared cameras up at the sky. Oh boy. The Egyptian mathematician Mostafa “Admiral Akbar” Abdelkader wrote several scholarly papers working out a detailed mapping of the Concave Earth model In one chapter of his book On the Wild Side (1992), Martin Gardner discusses the Hollow Earth model articulated by Abdelkader. According to Gardner, this hypothesis posits that light rays travel in circular paths, and slow as they approach the center of the spherical star-filled cavern. No energy can reach the center of the cavern, which corresponds to no point a finite distance away from Earth in the widely accepted scientific cosmology. A drill, Gardner says, would lengthen as it traveled away from the cavern and eventually pass through the "point at infinity" corresponding to the center of the Earth in the widely accepted scientific cosmology. Supposedly no experiment can distinguish between the two cosmologies. Christ, my head hurts. Gardner notes that "most mathematicians believe that an inside-out universe, with properly adjusted physical laws, is empirically irrefutable". Gardner rejects the concave Hollow Earth hypothesis on the basis of Occam's razor. Occam's razor is the problem-solving principle that "entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity", sometimes inaccurately paraphrased as "the simplest explanation is usually the best one." Purportedly verifiable hypotheses of a Concave Hollow Earth need to be distinguished from a thought experiment which defines a coordinate transformation such that the interior of the Earth becomes "exterior" and the exterior becomes "interior". (For example, in spherical coordinates, let radius r go to R2/r where R is the Earth's radius; see inversive geometry.) The transformation entails corresponding changes to the forms of physical laws. This is not a hypothesis but an illustration of the fact that any description of the physical world can be equivalently expressed in more than one way.   Contrary evidence   Seismic The picture of the structure of the Earth that has been arrived at through the study of seismic waves[52] is quite different from a fully hollow Earth. The time it takes for seismic waves to travel through and around the Earth directly contradicts a fully hollow sphere. The evidence indicates the Earth is mostly filled with solid rock (mantle and crust), liquid nickel-iron alloy (outer core), and solid nickel-iron (inner core).[53]   Gravity Main articles: Schiehallion experiment and Cavendish experiment Another set of scientific arguments against a Hollow Earth or any hollow planet comes from gravity. Massive objects tend to clump together gravitationally, creating non-hollow spherical objects such as stars and planets. The solid spheroid is the best way in which to minimize the gravitational potential energy of a rotating physical object; having hollowness is unfavorable in the energetic sense. In addition, ordinary matter is not strong enough to support a hollow shape of planetary size against the force of gravity; a planet-sized hollow shell with the known, observed thickness of the Earth's crust would not be able to achieve hydrostatic equilibrium with its own mass and would collapse.   Based upon the size of the Earth and the force of gravity on its surface, the average density of the planet Earth is 5.515 g/cm3, and typical densities of surface rocks are only half that (about 2.75 g/cm3). If any significant portion of the Earth were hollow, the average density would be much lower than that of surface rocks. The only way for Earth to have the force of gravity that it does is for much more dense material to make up a large part of the interior. Nickel-iron alloy under the conditions expected in a non-hollow Earth would have densities ranging from about 10 to 13 g/cm3, which brings the average density of Earth to its observed value.   Direct observation Drilling holes does not provide direct evidence against the hypothesis. The deepest hole drilled to date is the Kola Superdeep Borehole,[54] with a true vertical drill-depth of more than 7.5 miles (12 kilometers). However, the distance to the center of the Earth is nearly 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometers). Oil wells with longer depths are not vertical wells; the total depths quoted are measured depth (MD) or equivalently, along-hole depth (AHD) as these wells are deviated to horizontal. Their true vertical depth (TVD) is typically less than 2.5 miles (4 kilometers).   Ok, then let's discuss what actual scientists, like ALL OF THEM, believe the earth is actually composed of. The inner core This solid metal ball has a radius of 1,220 kilometers (758 miles), or about three-quarters that of the moon. It's located some 6,400 to 5,180 kilometers (4,000 to 3,220 miles) beneath Earth's surface. Extremely dense, it's made mostly of iron and nickel. The inner core spins a bit faster than the rest of the planet. It's also intensely hot: Temperatures sizzle at 5,400° Celsius (9,800° Fahrenheit). That's almost as hot as the surface of the sun. Pressures here are immense: well over 3 million times greater than on Earth's surface. Some research suggests there may also be an inner, inner core. It would likely consist almost entirely of iron.   The outer core   This part of the core is also made from iron and nickel, just in liquid form. It sits some 5,180 to 2,880 kilometers (3,220 to 1,790 miles) below the surface. Heated largely by the radioactive decay of the elements uranium and thorium, this liquid churns in huge, turbulent currents. That motion generates electrical currents. They, in turn, generate Earth's magnetic field. For reasons somehow related to the outer core, Earth's magnetic field reverses about every 200,000 to 300,000 years. Scientists are still working to understand how that happens.   The mantle   At close to 3,000 kilometers (1,865 miles) thick, this is Earth's thickest layer. It starts a mere 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) beneath the surface. Made mostly of iron, magnesium and silicon, it is dense, hot and semi-solid (think caramel candy). Like the layer below it, this one also circulates. It just does so far more slowly. Near its upper edges, somewhere between about 100 and 200 kilometers (62 to 124 miles) underground, the mantle's temperature reaches the melting point of rock. Indeed, it forms a layer of partially melted rock known as the asthenosphere (As-THEEN-oh-sfeer). Geologists believe this weak, hot, slippery part of the mantle is what Earth's tectonic plates ride upon and slide across.   Diamonds are tiny pieces of the mantle we can actually touch. Most form at depths above 200 kilometers (124 miles). But rare “super-deep” diamonds may have formed as far down as 700 kilometers (435 miles) below the surface. These crystals are then brought to the surface in volcanic rock known as kimberlite.   The mantle's outermost zone is relatively cool and rigid. It behaves more like the crust above it. Together, this uppermost part of the mantle layer and the crust are known as the lithosphere. The crust   Earth's crust is like the shell of a hard-boiled egg. It is extremely thin, cold and brittle compared to what lies below it. The crust is made of relatively light elements, especially silica, aluminum and oxygen. It's also highly variable in its thickness. Under the oceans (and Hawaiian Islands), it may be as little as 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) thick. Beneath the continents, the crust may be 30 to 70 kilometers (18.6 to 43.5 miles) thick.   Along with the upper zone of the mantle, the crust is broken into big pieces, like a gigantic jigsaw puzzle. These are known as tectonic plates. These move slowly — at just 3 to 5 centimeters (1.2 to 2 inches) per year. What drives the motion of tectonic plates is still not fully understood. It may be related to heat-driven convection currents in the mantle below. Some scientists think it's caused by the tug from slabs of crust of different densities, something called “slab pull.” In time, these plates will converge, pull apart or slide past each other. Those actions cause most earthquakes and volcanoes. It's a slow ride, but it makes for exciting times right here on Earth's surface.   https://www.imdb.com/list/ls003260126/?sort=user_rating,desc&st_dt=&mode=detail&page=1   BECOME A P.O.O.P.R.!! http://www.patreon.com/themidnighttrainpodcast   Find The Midnight Train Podcast: www.themidnighttrainpodcast.com www.facebook.com/themidnighttrainpodcast www.twitter.com/themidnighttrainpc www.instagram.com/themidnighttrainpodcast www.discord.com/themidnighttrainpodcast www.tiktok.com/themidnighttrainp   And wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.   Subscribe to our official YouTube channel: OUR YOUTUBE   Support our sponsors www.themidnighttraintrainpodcast.com/sponsors   The Charley Project www.charleyproject.org

The British philosopher Bertrand Russell called it “the cult of efficiency”—the drive among high-performers to accomplish more, to be productive, to work. But lately that cult has been pushing more people to burnout and languishing. What's going on? In evolutionary terms, the cult of efficiency is a recent invention that contradicts the way humans have survived for millennia, according to Celeste Headlee, author of the book, Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving. In part one of a special two-part episode, Headlee joins Dr. Jack Muskat, Medcan's clinical director of mental health, to discuss how our culture became obsessed with productivity, and why we need to remember how to relax.   http://eatmovethinkpodcast.com/podcast/ep-73-do-nothing-with-celeste-headlee-part-one  LINKS: More on Headlee and her work at her website, and her book Do Nothing. Here's one of the interviews Headlee did, this one with NPR, leading up to the book's launch. Ahd here's one she did with Forbes. Watch Headlee briefly break down the book here.  She's also given a TED Talk on how to have better conversations.   INSIGHTS Burnout, which the World Health Organization recognizes as a syndrome, has six main drivers, Headlee says: Overworking, the sense that you are not in control, being underappreciated, some kind of breakdown in your workplace, unfair treatment and a disconnect between your skills, values and the work you are being paid to do. As the author notes, self-care won't be able to address any of these things. Tied to this is the revelation that the life expectancy in the United States, at least, has fallen three years in a row. While working on her book, Headlee asked the researcher why this was. The answer: Despair. “Even before the pandemic, we were already on a very, very toxic and dangerous path,” she says. [03:46] We've all heard—maybe even said—the phrase “time is money.” Headlee was surprised to discover that it's a relatively new phrase. She dug through labour records dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans—and found that for most of history, work happened in pulses. Hunter-gatherer societies worked a day or two a week. Agricultural societies would work hard for a condensed period of time, and then take a celebratory break, like a harvest festival. It wasn't until the Industrial Revolution came about that work became a more task-based constant that led to our eventual obsession with productivity. “This is very, very recent in terms of an evolutionary change,” Headlee says, “which means we can change it back.” [05:31] So when Headlee says “do nothing,” does she actually mean to sit around and do, well, nothing? Not exactly. “Leisure is not inactivity,” she says. “You can be active while you are at leisure. ‘Do nothing' just means stop trying to produce stuff, stop worrying about the product or the utility of that time and do what you want.” [16:10] “You are not a multitasker—none of us are multitaskers,” Headlee says. The truth is that the human body and brain isn't designed to multitask. In fact, multitasking is associated with damage to our cognitive processes. Headlee found research that proves that multitasking degrades the quality of your work, lowers your IQ in that moment (to the point where you could be on par with an eight-year-old) and that you get worse at multitasking over time, not better. Multitasking is even associated with lower brain density, especially in areas related to self-control and empathy. “It's a terrible idea to try to treat our own bodies and brains like a computer,” she says. “It's much easier if you work with your body and brain instead of against it.” [16:58] Overwork is bad for our health. By constantly pushing ourselves, we put ourselves into such a state of stress that we activate the amygdala—the portion of the brain that is only supposed to be in control under great threat or danger. That, in turn, affects our decision-making abilities. The stress raises blood levels of cortisol and can leave us feeling exhausted, causing further stress in a vicious feedback loop. “That's what causes burnout,” Headlee explains. “Burnout isn't because of one bad day or even a bad week. It's chronic.” [19:42]

İlâhî kitapların üçüncüsü olan İncil, İsa (a.s.)'a indirilmiştir. Fakat bugün Hıristiyanların elinde bulunan ve Ahd-i Cedid (Yeni Ahid) denilen kitaplar Hz. İsa (a.s.)'a Allâhü Teâlâ tarafından gönderilen İncil değildir. Buna şu hâdise delildir: Peygamberimiz (s.a.v)'in amcası Hz. Abbas (r.a), Mekke'nin Fethi günü Ebû Süfyan'ı Peygamberimiz'in huzuruna çıkardı. Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.), **“Yâ Ebâ Süfyan! **(Muhammed Alaaddin b. İbni Abidin, _Hediyye-tül Abiyye_ , s.900)**

How to Make BIG Money in Fine Wine

Are you an entrepreneur out there who wants to know and invest in liquid assets like wine and see huge returns on your investment? In today’s episode of Mark My Words, Mark and innovative entrepreneur and investor Daniel Gurr discuss in detail the opportunities in wine investment, how to store your wine to avoid damage, the benefits of investing in wine over other investments and why now is as good a time as any to begin to invest liquid assets. All of the client’s wine is stored and insured and as long as it's stored in HMRC regulated facility, the wine will stay in that bonded warehouse for remaining of its life. They’re HMRC regulated facility. ~The Simple Sophisticate, episode #210 ~Subscribe to The Simple Sophisticate: iTunes | Stitcher | iHeartRadio | YouTube “It is always the simple that produces the marvelous.” – Amelia Barr You react in anger when a moment of frustration arises only to have to take more time (once you realize you shouldn't have reacted in such a way) to apologize and rebuild a relationship. The best decision, the simple decision, would have been to say nothing at all in the moment, step away from the situation, and decide what, if any, response was necessary. In a hurry to clear your inbox, you scan through emails too quickly, miss important details and end up having to respond twice or three times to correct the initial response. In an attempt to create a relationship, you cling or hang on to someone who doesn't fully welcome you into their lives. The simple truth regarding relationships is if people want you in their lives, they will make room for you and not create guessing games, just as you have opened your life to them. There are many ways we can complicate our lives when it is absolutely unnecessary to do so. While we often hear that we must struggle in order to reach the goals we desire, while there is much truth to the duration, there are many details along the way that do not have to be complicated. In fact, to complicate them, discourages our journey toward success. I was reminded that even those who value simplicity in order to elevate our lives (me!) can make the mistake of creating complication where they need not be. Over the past month I have been putting off a task that I knew in my good conscience needed to be tended to do. The delaying only built up more stress and fear that would have been assuaged or negated had I simply took action, discovered what the solution was and put my energy toward reaching the solution rather than putting my energy toward stressing out about the unknown. Often we complicate because we don't want one more thing to fill our plate. Ironically, we are putting more than one more thing on our plate; we are at least putting two: the task that needs to be tended to and the worry that we expend wondering. In other words, we accrue interest, and in this case, not the good kind. Today I'd like to take a look at 1o simple ways we unnecessarily complicate lives with the goal of avoiding these mistakes. Because once we recognize our mistake, we can simply correct our course. 1. Small, regular steps, to reach great success When we see our goal at the end of the long journey, there is a natural assumption that a grand step must be made. And while, yes, the distance is long, the journey is simple. So long as you are clear about what needs to be done and break it down into mini tasks, then all you have to do is the daily tasks each day on a regular basis. Whether it comes to improving your health, saving for your dream trip or earning the degree, be clear about your plan and then let go of the longview and trust that your daily habits will carry you to where you wish to arrive. 2. Contentment is in our control "It's only when you add the infinite battles of yesterday and tomorrow that life gets overly complicatd."—Getting Back to Happy, Marc & Angel Chernoff Much of the world would have us believe that contentment lies outside of us. Described as happiness, in a semantic sense, I would agree - happiness does lie outside of us, but contentment is entirely within our control. And it is through understanding how to cultivate contentment that we are more available to appreciate moments of happiness. But because we focus on what is outside of us - what must happen that involves others, what they should do, who should be in our lives, etc. we give our power away. Simply, our power for contentment, everything we need, is in our control because it is a matter of the mind. Ahd when our mindset is in order, we become at peace with ourselves and more engaging and charismatic with the world, drawing to us what we most love and appreciate. 3. Sleep Well, Live Well When I think about going to bed each night, I smile. I smile because my bed is soft, comfortable, and a true luxury to slip into after each day. Sleep is good. In fact, sleep is vital to living well. From how well our brain functions, to improving our health as the toxins are flushed from our bodies, to improving our mood, sleep even supercedes exercise. So protect your 7-8 hours of sleep each night and see the quality of your days improve. 4. When we complain, we aren't problem solving It is easy to complain and it is very tempting. And while we do need to vent because often we don't know what we are truly upset about until we release the frustration either verbally or on paper, complaining is a waste of energy as it takes away the precious time and brain power that is needed to either solve the problem or move on to something that better uses our time. 5. Learn to say no - focus your attention  For nearly ten years, my focus has been my passion that is shared every week here on this blog. I continue to follow my intuition, trust that it knows what I cannot see at that moment and keep striving forward to inspire readers to have the confidence to reach their full potential, to shed the limiting views and societal confinements that would hold us back when what the world needs is what we each can uniquely give if only we could unearth it and share it with the world. In so doing my life has taken on its own construct: my daily and weekend schedules are full but much enjoyed, the sights of the world I have had the opportunity to see fill me with inspiration and I continue to arrive closer at understanding how living well, the art of living well, actually works. Because I know precisely why I am continuing to pursue my goal, saying no is quite simple. Whatever you are passionate about, whatever you discover gives you purpose, a deep, driving purpose, once you hone in on it, saying no is simple and the complications that arise from saying "yes" much more than necessary lifts. 6. Feeling loved, begins with loving yourself  The love stories depicted in cliched rom-coms or traditional fairy tales would have us accept the love we seek resides outside of ourselves. The truth is actually the reverse. As we flip this notion on its head, it sounds too simple, too on the nose to be true, but the truth is you have had the love you have been seeking all along. We cannot truly find someone to love us well if we do not know how to love ourselves. And in order to love ourselves we must get to know ourselves, and when we show the world the self-respect we have for ourselves and thus the world, we attract to us those who appreciate who we are and thus opportunities for quality and lasting, loving relationship. For many, the complicated part lies in understanding how to love ourselves because doing so has been conveyed as being selfish. Once we see someone around us who exhibits self-love, we come to understand that self-love is a form of self-respect and when we respect ourselves we protect ourselves and strike a balance between what we can give to others and what we need to keep to give to ourselves whether it is our time, our energy, or our patience. 7. Reduce excess decision making From the clothes you wear each day (create a capsule wardrobe), to the flavor/varietal of tea/coffee you drink to start your day, once you know what works for you and if it a foundational decision that needs to be stable so that the other tasks you go about doing throughout your day will be successful, stick with it. During my work week, I drink black tea or green tea. There are many amazing teas to drink, but to ensure the foundation of the start of my day is sturdy I drink tea I know I will enjoy. It's not that I won't try different teas when I travel, enjoy brunch on the weekend, etc.. All it means is that too often we choose coffee to try something new (as a tea drinker) on a work day that needs are focus. And if the coffee does not sit well with us, we just complicated our day unnecesarily. 8. When we worry, we waste our days away Worry is a depletion of two precious commodities - our energy and our time. As I shared a few years ago, there are many benefits to be had when we banish worry (20 to be exact). And one priceless benefit is a return to a simpler way of living and thus improving of our everyday lives. As I shared as the #1 of the linked post, often it is the "how" to banish worry that is hard. So let me share with you a four-step process you can follow to just that - banish unnecessary worry -  (1) write down exactly what you are worried about, (2) write down what you can do about it (3) decide the best course of action (4) start immediately to fulfill the course of action you’ve decided upon. In other words, action is the choice you want to take when you don't know what the outcome will be, rather than worrying. 9. Tell the truth (about what happened and who you truly are) "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything." — found in Mark Twain's notebook, 1894 On a surface level, as Twain points out, when we tell the truth, we don't have to remember which story to whom, but on a much deeper level, when we tell the truth about who we are and reveal to the world who we actually are, we do not draw to ourselves those who think we are someone else. In other words, not everyone will be drawn to us in our authentic state, but those who are are individuals with whom we have a far greater chance of connecting in such a way that has the opportunity to last, deepen and lift each party involved to their fullest potential. 10. Respond rather than react As I shared in the introduction in one of the examples of unnecessary complication, when we react, our emotions have us by the throat, but when we respond (while it may take more time), we are being thoughtful and inviting logic to join the conversation so to eliminate having to make apologies later. The key to living simply throughout our everydays is to make sure where we can simplify, we are. Because when we reduce the complications that need not be in our lives, we open up vast, beautiful windows for the opportunities we seek to introduce themselves. ~SIMILAR POSTS FROM THE ARCHIVES YOU MIGHT ENJOY: ~Why Not . . .
