Today we welcome the multi-talented comedian and director Stuart Laws to the podcast for a chat about his passion for flipping beer mats, the confines of a performer's comedic uniform, and why many stand-up comics tend to look alike. Stuart explains how he's adapted his onstage persona since being diagnosed with Autism and how that discovery has helped him understand the emotions that neurodiverse audience members may be suppressing during his own shows. Stuart also explains how he likes to nurture upcoming talent through his production company 'Turtle Canyon Media' while weighing up the pros and cons of judging your own successes against that of your peers. Innovating Within the Military: Challenge-Driven Innovation and Connected Intelligence This episode of the Corporate Explorer, recorded in London during the launch of the Corporate Explorer field book and powered by Wazoku, features Stuart Laws from the UK's Defense Innovation Unit. The discussion explores how challenge-driven innovation has transformed problem-solving within the military, moving away from a traditional idea-generation model to one that actively involves business units in framing their issues for more scoped and implementable solutions. Laws highlights the shift towards a more inclusive innovation approach, engaging employees, suppliers, startups, universities, and leveraging Wazoku's connected collective intelligence of over 700,000 global problem solvers. The episode also delves into the human aspects of innovation, including the creation of stakeholder personas to better understand and influence decision-makers, and the serendipitous discovery of solutions through cross-sector collaboration and challenge-driven initiatives. Laws shares insights on the necessity of a collaborative mindset in innovation, bringing public and private sectors together for impactful outcomes. The successes of this approach are exemplified in real-world applications, such as providing 5G coverage in hard-to-reach areas through a partnership between Defence, BT, and academic contributions. 00:00 Welcome to the Corporate Explorer: Innovating with Wazoku 00:43 Introducing Stuart Laws: Innovating in the Military 01:41 The Power of Challenge-Driven Innovation 04:12 Cross-Sector Innovation: Bridging Industries for Better Solutions 09:14 Marketing Personas: A Game-Changer for Innovation 12:55 Finding Solutions in Unexpected Places: The BT Story 15:13 Wrapping Up: The Future of Innovation with Wazoku Find Stuart here:

Join Em Stroud and her clown Barbara as they talk all things Comedy post Covid… What will comedy look like as we creep out of lockdown? How has Stuart continued to create shows during the pandemic. What is the future for us as performer? How much fun is the word Wombat? Does Barbara let him talk and so much more! Stuart’s Social Media Twitter: @thisstuartlaws About Stuart Stuart Laws is a comedian who makes loads of stupid stuff and writes & performs stand up comedy. Grave New World is a comedy series about emerging from a pandemic now available on Prime Video, written by and starring Stuart Laws along with a cast including James Acaster, Harriet Kemsley, Evelyn Mok, Heidi Regan, Sunil Patel, Annie McGrath and many more.
Is Stuart Laws an absurdist rambler who froths up a load of increasingly hilarious nonsense whilst honking in a gilet? Or is he an astute and quite private man who started a production company when he was 18, and went on to produce his own sitcom Grave new World (Amazon Prime) as well as directing James Acaster's “Repertoire” (Netflix) and countless other standup specials? It'd be great if the answer was “neither” wouldn't it? But it's clearly both.We talk about “The Prestige” as it pertains to stand-up shows; what it means to be both producer and director of one's own work; and what makes other comics attractive assets to his company Turtle Canyon. We also cover openness, privacy and what shocks him about other comedians…25 mins of extra content available exclusively to the Insiders Club includes Stuart on the different ways he directs comics, with reference to James Acaster and Joel Dommett; how to direct without imposing; his social media and TikTok sketch strategies, and some insights on the only show ever made about Wario. An introduction to the new film podcast series from Lorcan Mullan, co-host and producer of 'Best of Worst of British' and 'Let Me Tell You Something'. Next episode - 'The Beach' with Stuart Laws
In this episode I speak to Stuart Laws about why hard work isn't always physical, the cottage industry behind the greetings card business and starting your own business as a teenager
Stuart Laws isn't just a fantastic comedian in his own right, he is also behind some of the best online comedy content of the past few years. His company Turtle Canyon are responsible for some absolutely stellar productions, including James Acaster's four 'Repertoire' Netflix specials and many more besides. We were very lucky that he visited the Mystery on the Rocks bar to help with another mystery, pitch a brilliant sequel to 1996 Arnie action flick 'Eraser' and maybe, just maybe, steal the podcast from right under our noses...This week's case is the murder of businessman Eric Tamiyasu in rural Oregon in June 2001, a tale which may seem very simple on the surface but which begins to complicate itself by having no less than four suspects - each with an apparently compelling motive for murder... LOOK OUT! It’s only Films To Be Buried With! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the multi-faceted diamond STUART LAWS!Multi-faceted, as you will hear from Brett’s intro, by way of having multiple fingers in multiple cake and pies - but for the most part as you will also hear, the foundation is all things funny. Bear in mind that this was an episode recorded before lockdown was a fully functional thing in society, so podcasts were still often being recorded in person in the same room. Something that we don’t hear so often these days - but it’s worth pointing out, just for sake of context. You’ll have a good time with this one, as they go into the whole lot - spirituality (which take a nice debate turn), nihilism, regrets… And that’s for starters!
