He shares insights into his new comedy special, Trash Daddy, and talks about how his Southern roots influence his work. Roger Stone joins to discuss his early political career, his experience with the FBI raid on his home, the Mueller investigation, and the legal battles that followed. On today's episode, I talk to comedian and actor David Cross. Originally from Roswell, GA, David started as a stand-up at the age of seventeen, first in Boston and then in New York in the '90s. David's television career began with a writing job on the The Ben Stiller Show. It was around this time that he met Bob Odenkirk, and they started performing together, eventually creating the brilliant sketch show Mr. Show, which ran on HBO for four seasons. Since then, David has done a million awesome things including Arrested Development, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, as well as smaller parts in everything from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind to What We Do in the Shadows. He's also performed eight stand-up albums and specials; his latest Worst Daddy in the World just came out last year on 800 Pound Gorilla, and it's a delight! And of course, you can see him touring this spring, if you live in Canada or Europe. This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter. SRI360 | Socially Responsible Investing, ESG, Impact Investing, Sustainable Investing
In this episode, instead of bringing you a long-form interview with a world-class investor, I thought I'd do something different. This time, I'm revisiting the book that inspired this podcast: Sustainable and Responsible Investing 360: Lessons Learned from World-Class Investors. As we step into a new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on the choices we make and remind ourselves how sustainable and responsible investing became significant in the first place. We'll explore why so many investors now see it as a future-proof investment trend and why more are considering the broader impact their portfolio returns have on others. This episode is designed to do just that, featuring three chapters from the audiobook version of Sustainable and Responsible Investing 360: Lessons Learned from World-Class Investors. It's an opportunity to revisit the foundational "why" behind sustainable investing – not as just a trend, but as a necessary shift in how we think about finance and its role in the world. These chapters are narrated by the talented veteran actor Graham Rowat. The book is designed to be easy to navigate – you can read it from cover to cover or jump to specific topics that interest you.The book begins with an overview of sustainable and responsible investing – its challenges, opportunities, and importance – before transitioning to interviews with 26 professional investors who have broken new ground in responsible investmentAt the start of this new year, I wanted to share these three chapters as a chance to reflect on what truly matters. My hope is that they inspire you to think differently about your financial decisions and their potential to align with a more sustainable future. If you are interested in checking out the rest of the audiobook, which is produced and copyrighted by Ascent Audio, you can find it on Audible, Apple, Google, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite audiobooks. Please enjoy… and thank you for listening.—The SRI 360° Podcast is focused exclusively on sustainable & responsible investing. —Connect with SRI360°:Sign up for the free weekly email updateVisit the SRI360° PODCASTVisit the SRI360° WEBSITEFollow SRI360° on XFollow SRI360° on FACEBOOK—Key Takeaways:Intro (00:00)CHAPTER 1 - Why Sustainable & Responsible Investing? I'm on the East Coast about to speak at a corporate event filled with tech leaders of a very large company. As I'm backstage, the CEO comes up to me and says, “Remember Kymberlee, these are incredible people who are amazing at what they do, yet they aren't really bought into the idea of storytelling in the business environment.” With that, I'm introduced and take the stage. After the applause dies down, I can tell the mood in the room is quite serious. So I have everyone stand up and start an icebreaker exercise. That's when I hear the first person laugh. And then the next, and the next, and pretty soon the whole room is laughing, connecting, and having fun. The energy in the room has shifted. At the end of the session, I ask them what some of their most memorable moments from the day are. Without skipping a beat, they pointed out the laughter during the icebreaker changed their internal story. We know that laughter does a body and a brain good. Jason Love spreads that joy everywhere he goes. He's a nationally touring standup comedian who has appeared on TV in a few places you may have heard of, like Comedy Central and HBO. In this episode of the Storytelling School Podcast, you'll hear his insights on connecting with diverse audiences in storytelling through devices like humor and lessons we can learn from comedic storytellers, as well as get answers to questions like: How can you begin testing new material for a story, Talk, or performance? Why are people drawn to comedic storytellers like Dave Chappelle and Martin Lawrence? And what's it like to navigate in the world currently as a comedic storyteller or performer? What you will learn in this episode: What attitude you can take with you anytime you perform or tell a story How you can adapt your story or Talk to diverse audiences How you can be completely present before a story or Talk Who is Jason? Jason Love is a nationally touring headliner who has appeared on HBO, Comedy Central, America's Got Talent, and Dry Bar Comedy. Friends - welcome back to the G-town get-down yet again. Musicians and comedians often feel like we are distant relatives; there's a correlation but we can't exactly put our finger on that common throughline. But also, with any performer, there's something beautiful about being out of the spotlight and just laughing. My guest today is one of the funniest people I follow online and he keeps getting funnier by the day; Byron Bertram. Like a bird flu on an international flight, Byron Bertram travels well. His innate talent for voices and accents and confident vulnerability have taken him worldwide and established him internationally as one of the world's top Canadian comics. He has worked on stage with the likes of Zach Galifianakis, Flight of the Concords, and Eddie Izzard; was a hit with the judges on Brits Got Talent, has been seen on ABC's Once Upon a Time, Dirks Gently, Riverdale, and heard regularly on SiriusXM. His new comedy special "Live At The Biltmore" (released under the massive comedy label 800 Pound Gorilla) will air on YouTube on November 10th. Catch me in a town near you (as I head out on tour soon with Stephen Stanley from The Lowest of the Low and The Stephen Stanley Band) by visting my website to see where I'm playing. If people can hate for no reason, I can love for no reason - and I love you. Thanks for stopping by Graventown. Yer always welcome here. Jasmine and Amanda are at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, so on this episode, Rachel is co-hosting with Jess Piper. And it's great timing because as of last week, abortion will be on the ballot in her home state of Missouri - something that she and other advocates have been working hard to achieve. They gathered 380,000 signatures, a full 200k more than they needed! It's important to remember that even in "red" states like Missouri, extremists are the minority. But when gerrymandering and misinformation run rampant, the far right can implement damaging policies like abortion bans and book bans. Jess even calls her state a "pilot program" for Project 2025, devastating healthcare and public education. No matter what state we live in, we have to stand up against extremism because it affects all of us.And speaking of Project 2025, this week we're also joined by Nancy MacLean, author of Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right's Stealth Plan for America. Nancy walks us through the history of the Heritage Foundation and P2025, as well as where she sees the far right going in the future. Her knowledge and her joy are captivating, even if the topics she studies are anything but joyful. She's proof that we can take this work seriously while still having fun. Finally, Jess and Rachel raise a glass to daughters and to Tim Walz in this week's Toast to Joy.Red Wine and Blue is going to be in D.C. Labor Day weekend – want to join us? Moms for Liberty will be holding their annual summit where they double down on hate and extremism. We cannot and will not let Moms for Liberty speak for us. After spending 48 hours in the emergency room last summer, doctors diagnosed me with Type 1 diabetes at 27 years old, a rare case of an autoimmune disease that hinders the pancreas' ability to produce insulin, the hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar levels as you go about your daily life. I've spent the last year learning my new body, but I still have so many questions about how to manage this relentless disease. Luckily, comedian Nick Callas (who performed in Portsmouth last month) is an expert on the subject because he's had it since he was six years old. And in today's bonus episode, he and I swap our diabetes stories, talk about how to manage it, and what YOU -- the non-diabetic -- can do to help make the diabetic in your life feel more at ease. According to the American Diabetes Association, 98,505 of New Hampshire residents have diabetes (8.7%). In Maine, it's 113,186 (10%). The total cost of managing diabetes in New Hampshire each year is $1.3B, and in Maine it's $1.4B. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says 38.4M Americans are diabetic (11.6%). In Part Two of our conversation from his home office in New York City's Financial District, Nick and I get into: My Type 1 diabetes diagnosis in 2023 (00:00) Diabetes statistics in NH/Maine (05:17) Nick Callas on his T1 diabetes experience (06:52) How to manage diabetes (10:23) How you can help the diabetic in your life (26:26) Why Nick Callas is a T1 diabetes advocate (35:10) What is your mission? Last month, Nick Callas performed at The Music Hall Lounge on a perfect Friday night in downtown Portsmouth. A friend and I attended the show, and we laughed out loud the entire time as Nick made jokes about Seacoast citizens with boats and the political climate in New England, among many other subjects. Dealing with the 500-Pound Gorilla in the Room - Conflict Romans 12:17-18 (NIV)“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” The effects of unresolved conflict in our relationships. 1. It can minimize our joy. 2. It can hinder our communication with God. 1 Peter 3:7 (ESV)“…husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.” 3. It can hinder your sensitivity and worship to God. Matthew 5:23-24 (NIV)“…if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.”Dealing with relational conflict. 1. Do something to help bring reconciliation. Matthew 12:34 (ESV)“…For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”Genesis 3:10 (NIV)“…I heard you in the garden; and I was afraid because I was naked, and so I hid.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2. Be honest about what you have done wrong. Matthew 7:3-5 (NIV)“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.” 1 Peter 5:5 (ESV)“…Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'” 3. Listen and consider what they are saying. James 1:19 (NIV)“…Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,”Philippians 2:4 (NLT)“Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” 4. Be intentional with the words you use. Proverbs 12:18 (NIV)“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” 5. Pursue reconciliation, not agreement. Matthew 5:9 (NIV)“Blessed are the peacemakers…”

Chris Davis was born to an average blue-collar family in central Illinois. Growing up, he enjoyed playing sports, going hunting, attending Boy Scout meetings – the things a typical midwestern kid would be interested in. His life changed, however, when he was 17 years old, and doctors had discovered that an astrocytoma had developed on his spinal cord. After undergoing successful surgery to remove the tumor, Chris returned home as a permanent paraplegic. Still confident that he could lead a successful life, Chris knew that he needed to choose a career that was more cerebral than physical and decided to give law school a shot. Fast forward nearly 40 years later and Chris was not only accepting his membership into the American College of Trial Lawyers, but he was also asked to provide the commencement speech at the induction ceremony. In this episode of Briefly Legal, litigator Chris Davis discusses the series of life events that led him to become the only paraplegic trial attorney in the state of Oklahoma and why mindfulness and being extremely well-prepared help quell people's perception of him on both sides of the courtroom. He also discusses the legacy of litigators at Crowe & Dunlevy, how their leadership and involvement in the ABA has led him to become a better mentor to young attorneys, and the emphasis and recognition the firm places on the value of diversity in the workplace.About J.
