They Said I'd Never See My Kids Again. Got Them Back Sober w/ Ian Day | The Hopeaholics Podcast #349Ian Day grew up a standout athlete in a one-stoplight town in Indiana with one bar. His first drinks were sips of Miller Lite off his grandpa's lawn mower. By 17 he was smoking weed every day and panhandling in his high school hallways for lunch money because he'd spent it all on drugs. By 26 he was in Maricopa County tent jail in pink underwear and it was a country song in the jail chapel that finally broke him open for the first time in his life. He was told he'd never see his kids again and he got them back while fully sober. Ian shares his experience in the fork in the road between homeless, prison, and the halfway house, 90 meetings in 90 days, waking up at 4am to work a food bank before heading to a tattoo shop in the evenings, and what it looked like to slowly build a life he never thought was possible. Ian is now 8 years sober, owns Everlasting Inc. tattoo shop in Phoenix next door to a sober lounge, goes into intake prison on Monday mornings, and is raising his kids with his wife, Christin DayFollow the Hopeaholics on our Socials:https://www.instagram.com/thehopeaholics https://linktr.ee/thehopeaholicsGo to www.Wolfpak.com today and support our sponsors. It's a fallow week in the 6 Nations so Alfie Reynolds, Elgan Alderman and Stuart Barnes discuss all of the action from round three. They chat about Scotland's nervy performance in Cardiff as Gregor Townsend's side (just!) got the victory. Was this Scotland banishing demons from previous campaigns? Or have they once again failed to back up an impressive performance against England?Barnsey gives his verdict on what on earth is going wrong for England following a terrible day at Twickenham in defeat to Ireland. And, Elgan was in Lille as France remained unbeaten by winning against Italy.Could the Italians now be the favorites to beat England for the first time in their history? Are Ireland or Scotland best placed to challenge for the title alongside France? And, which nation benefits from the timing of the fallow week?***The Ruck Live! Before the final whistle is blown on the 2026 Guinness Men's Six Nations, there's the small matter of Super Saturday. This year the final round promises to be even more explosive, with rivals England and France going head-to-head in the very last match of the competition at the Stade de France.Tough-tacklers Courtney Lawes and Serge Betsen will join Charlie Morgan, Senior Rugby Writer at The Times, and Alfie Reynolds — host of our podcast The Ruck — to compare notes on Le Crunch and the biggest moments of this year's tournament.Book tickets on thetimes.com/events Hosted on Acast. Amanda Tarver opens up about one of the most shocking chapters of her life, discovering she was pregnant just weeks after self-surrendering to federal prison, navigating pregnancy and childbirth behind bars, and the emotional reality of giving birth while incarcerated. In this conversation with Ian Bick, Amanda breaks down how her decisions led to federal prison time, the trauma and resilience of motherhood inside the prison system, and how that experience inspired her and her husband to start 300 Letters, a nonprofit supporting families impacted by incarceration and helping break the cycle of trauma. _____________________________________________ #PregnantInPrison #GaveBirthInPrison #PrisonStory #TrueCrimePodcast #PrisonLife #InmateStories #LifeAfterPrison #lockedinwithianbick _____________________________________________ Connect with Amanda Tarver: Website: https://300letters.org/ Instagram & Tiktok: @IAMLEGENDFITNESS @300LETTERS @TRUTHBYAMANDA _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Shop Locked In Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 Amanda's Story: Pregnancy, Prison & Survival 00:54 Childhood, Family Instability & Constant Moving 02:58 Parents' Relationship & Early Trauma 06:42 Strict vs. Lenient Parenting & Control 08:34 Money, Independence & Teen Responsibilities 09:25 School Behavior & Early Warning Signs 09:55 Never Imagining Prison as a Teen 10:34 Family History of Incarceration 11:02 Growing Up Cuban in Miami 11:58 Early Adulthood & First Pregnancy 13:32 Motherhood, Independence & College Life 14:04 Family Reaction to Becoming Pregnant 15:44 Navigating Complicated Family Dynamics 17:51 Meeting Legend Tarver & Falling in Love 20:54 Discovering the Drug Operation 22:59 Getting Involved & Sending Money 25:02 Normalizing Crime & Ignoring Red Flags 28:10 Consequences, Arrest & Federal Indictment 32:44 Detention Center, Court Dates & Legal Process 41:11 First Days in Prison & Culture Shock 47:46 Pregnant in Prison: Fear, Stress & Reality 52:26 Taking a Plea Deal & Self-Surrender 58:09 Adjusting to Prison & Finding Support 01:03:20 Pregnancy Programs & Giving Birth While Incarcerated 01:08:32 Motherhood in Prison: Nutrition & Daily Life 01:15:13 Family Impact & Reentry Challenges 01:19:08 Halfway House & Reuniting With My Kids 01:27:16 Talking to Children About Prison 01:34:32 Finding Purpose After Prison 01:38:28 Starting 300 Letters & Giving Back 01:44:22 Breaking the Cycle & Empowering Others 01:46:03 Final Advice to My Younger Self Learn more about your ad choices. Sabrena Collins had what most people would call a good upbringing — but by 13 years old, she was already hooked on meth. After getting sober once, a painful divorce sent her spiraling back into addiction and deeper into the drug world. What started as using turned into selling, and one night a police chase changed everything — ending with Sabrena being shot in the head by law enforcement. Instead of ending there, things got worse. Sabrena was charged by the DEA in a federal drug conspiracy case for trafficking meth and was sentenced to 9 years in federal prison. #ShotInTheHead #PoliceShootings #PrisonStory #TrueCrimePodcast #PrisonDocumentary #SurvivalStory #PrisonInterview #lockedinpodcast Connect with Sabrena Collins: Tiktok@ sabrenamorgan Facebook @ Sabrena Morgan Insta @thesabrenamorgan YouTube @thesabrenamorgan Www.transformingcriminaljustice.com Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Presented by Tyson 2.0 & Wooooo Energy: https://tyson20.com/ https://woooooenergy.com/ Use code LOCKEDIN for 20% OFF Wooooo Energy Buy Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop Timestamps: 00:00 Shot in the Head & 9 Years in Prison: Meet Sabrina Collins 02:00 Growing Up in Kansas City & Family Life 06:00 Struggling with Body Dysmorphia & Diet Pills at a Young Age 08:30 Turning to Meth & Living a Double Life 13:00 Hiding Addiction from Family & Excelling in School 18:00 College Years, Quitting Meth & Big Life Choices 22:00 Marriage, Motherhood & Becoming a Real Estate Agent 27:00 Divorce, Custody Battles & Emotional Collapse 36:00 Relapse, Drug Dealing & Mental Health Spiral 41:00 High-Speed Chase & Getting Shot by Police 47:00 DEA Investigation & Federal Arrest 51:00 Indictment & The Moment Everything Changed 54:00 Pre-Trial Rehab: Getting Clean Before Prison 59:00 Sentenced to 9 Years in Federal Prison 01:04:00 Prison Life: Survival, Growth & Finding Purpose 01:12:00 Halfway House & Home Confinement Challenges 01:18:00 Becoming an Advocate & Rebuilding Her Life 01:23:00 Early Clemency: The Day She Walked Free 01:27:00 Life After Prison: Adjusting to Freedom 01:33:00 TikTok, Community & Helping Other Women 01:39:00 What the Prison System Gets Wrong & Needs to Fix 01:45:00 Nonprofit Work, Advocacy & Fighting for Change 01:51:00 Advice to Her 13-Year-Old Self & Final Thoughts Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Federal Prison Authority Presents: Around the Block, Bruce and Susan this week have a special guest, Dory Sater. Dory is a former inmate and has experience going through the prison system. He shared how he navigated the system to be released early via First Step Act credits. He shares what that process was like for him and his family. In the past, he was a lawyer for almost 25 years, and he used this knowledge to inform others and prepare him for his sentence. Dory emphasizes the importance of staying busy and how the freedom within his confinement helped not only his physical health but his mental health as well. Currently, Dory is in the process of trying to regain his license in law and continue his passion. A big topic of discussion is the difference between home confinement and a halfway house. Dory also talks about how he stayed hopeful even during his confinement's difficult times. Toward the end, they discuss how COVID shook up the confinement process and explore how the prison system is still a work in progress. This very informative episode gives viewers an inside look at what it is like to go through the system. Dr. Susan Giddings can be found on their shared website https://federalprisonauthority.com/who-we-are/ Bruce through his cell (214) 431-2032, and they referenced the First Step Act best-seller on Amazon- https://a.co/d/f4NxxYx
Golf equipment has got expensive, hasn't it? It seems most drivers have crossed the £500 barrier and putters don't seem too far behind. But is new equipment worth it? In this week's Fairway or Foul debate Tom Irwin and Steve Carroll argue the case for golf club prices. Steve has almost been crushed under the weight of your rules questions – and he answers a trio of interesting queries – while, with the Masters tantalisingly on the horizon, he also tries to outfox Tom in this week's quiz… Website: https://www.nationalclubgolfer.com/ X: https://x.com/NCG_com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NationalClubGolfer Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nationalclubgolfer/?hl=en

A vital part of a player's armoury, or just an excuse to get into a row about anchoring? Steve Carroll and Tom Irwin are back with their quizzes and questions edition. In this week's Fairway or Foul debate, the pair dive into the long putter argument and debate whether it's got any place in the game. Elsewhere, we talk about the World Handicap System (just for a change) – but this time Steve is quizzing Tom on his knowledge about the global order. We go through your questions, and there have been plenty of them, and Steve's been getting some grief on social media. This podcast doesn't exist without you. Send us your quiz questions, tell us what to debate, give us your rules or WHS queries. We don't mind what it is. Big handicaps, switching tees, a sport that is accessible to all – but is it making the game too easy? Or is there plenty still to test us in this most unfathomable of games? It's the Fairway or Foul debate in this week's episode of The Halfway House, our quizzes and questions episode. Can Tom Irwin win the day once again by asserting that golf is tough enough, or will Steve convince you it's becoming ever easier to play? Steve's also got a rules question that will surprise some of you, and - following his win at The Players - we look ahead to the chances of Rory McIlroy in this year's majors. Surely he has to win one this year? As always, we want you to get in touch. Send us your quiz questions, tell us what to debate, give us your rules or WHS queries. We don't mind what it is. Graham Coath talks to a young musician from Liverpool who started playing guitar at about 7 and is now developing into a well known singer songwriter on the local scene. Harry Fazakerley is quickly making his mark on the music scene. 16 year old Harry started writing music mid 2024 and his debut single 'Patience' saw over 13K streams in its first month of release along with 7K monthly listeners. The song featured as 'Track Of The Day' on This Is The Music and North West Connections. Already a popular artist in the Merseyside area, Harry recently secured Jamie Webster's old acoustic slot at the Liverpool pub The Halfway House - the first artist to take this on long term since Jamie left to go on to new heights several years ago. Harry is now tipped to follow in Jamie's footsteps. A duet with the Cheap Thrills singer Lewis Pike was the highlight of a recent charity show. Harry is working closely with Liverpool Football Club and is playing to a 2K plus crowd at the end of the football season as well as providing regular entertainment for the club's corporate events. His anticipated new single 'I Want To Go Home' is released mid March. 2025 will see Harry continue to perform at top Liverpool venues and branch out to playing gigs in Manchester and further afield. The future is bright for this young artist who is already much in demand by music venues and promoters across the North West.

Helping us get set for sentencing this week is Walt Pavlo, founder of prisonology.com and frequent contributor to BOP issues for Forbes online. Walt and I discuss all the issues with FSA (and Second Chance Act) implentation, as well as offer many useful practice pointers.
