Dating in the digital world feels nearly impossible, and for Kevin, it truly is. In this episode, we dive into the UK-made comedy series "Patterns" focusing on Episode 4: Kevin's Series of Unfortunate Events, which is currently premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival! Kevin (played by Jake Watkins) is a hopelessly earnest romantic whose optimism far outweighs his self-awareness. By day, he works as a school's Online Safety Salamander. By night, he subjects himself to a relentless series of disastrous dates, convinced that persistence alone will eventually lead to love. His misadventures become a source of fascination for his colleagues: the confident, sharp-tongued school nurse Vera (Cecilia Noble) and geography teacher Dave Douglas (Ryan Sampson). But what Kevin fails to notice is that a genuine connection has been quietly forming much closer to home. MEET THE CAST & CREATORS • Kevin (Jake Watkins - BBC's 'I Kissed a Boy'): A lovable friend whose life never quite works out, dreaming of a Hollywood career but stuck as a Safety Salamander. • Dave Douglas (Ryan Sampson - Sky's 'Mr Bigstuff', 'Brassic', ITV's 'Plebs'): An eccentric geography teacher with the best intentions who thinks he's "down with the kids." • Vera (Cecilia Noble - BBC's 'Killing Eve', Netflix's 'Black Mirror'): A no-nonsense school nurse who acts as Kevin's anchor with tough love and emergency sausage rolls. • Creator & Writer: Asad Moghal, who drew inspiration from a string of his own real-life dating disasters to create this sharply observed, character-driven comedy. • Director: Rex Glensy, an orchestral conductor turned entertainment lawyer and filmmaker (director of 'Hill of Vision'), representing production company Aurelia Pictures. INSIDE THE DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT "Everyone has had a disaster date... My goal as a director was to take a self-deprecating view of dating nightmares some of us might have had, so that at least we can laugh at ourselves instead of crying. The lead character, Kevin is all of us." Stay connected with me: https://www.chonacas.com/links/
Send us Fan MailThis week on A Crazy Little Thing Called Lovdev, I'm gearing up for my Half Soaked show and sharing a few stories from the comedy circuit, including the unexpected moment I found myself chatting to world snooker champion Kyren Wilson at a gig.We also dive into a brilliant AITAH story involving a group of siblings who hired professional cleaners to prove their mum was impossible to please when it came to housework. Then it's onto a proper British problem after a sleep-deprived resident tries to help a postman out and somehow ends up getting called an anchor. In this week's What the F?! we look at the story of Prometheus, the world's oldest known non-clonal tree, which survived for nearly 5,000 years before being cut down by researchers. As always, there's comedy, chaos, strange stories and my completely unnecessary opinions.Support the show
Send us Fan MailThis week on A Crazy Little Thing Called Lovdev, we cover everything from awkward office friendships to blood donation guilt, bizarre comedy gigs and forgotten words. We react to a confession from a man who fake laughed at a coworker's jokes for so long that he accidentally became his emotional support audience. Then we discuss a RandomThoughts post about the strange irony of regularly donating blood… only to later find yourself unable to help a family member in need because you donated too recently. There's also a surprisingly positive British Problems post about remembering the good things about living in the UK — which makes a nice change from everyone constantly moaning.I also give an update on my recovery since my recent incident, continue reading some of the funniest and strangest comedy gig stories from The Comedy Crate, and in Weird News… we look at a word that's apparently become impossible to search online.Plus in “What the F?!” — a strange story involving gold coins.Support the show
Send us Fan MailWe react to a confession from someone who secretly cashed in their brother's winning lottery ticket and used the money to pay off their own debts… before the guilt slowly started catching up with them years later. Then we head into conspiracy territory with a discussion around “Tartary” and whether old maps really prove the existence of a hidden lost empire — or whether the internet has simply done what the internet always does. We've also got a surprisingly emotional British problem about people throwing away perfectly good toys, plus I read through some of the funniest and strangest stories people have witnessed at live comedy gigs from a post by The Comedy Crate. And in Weird News… this week's story is apparently so bad I genuinely had to give listeners a warning before reading it out.Support the show

Send us Fan MailWe kick things off with a discussion around the term “African American” and why it seems to be used for every black person in American TV — even when that doesn't always make sense. Then things get morally messy as we react to a firefighter confessing he pocketed £2,000 from a drug dealer while saving his life.We also tackle a proper British problem — public pianos are a lovely idea… until someone's child starts treating it like a drum kit for fifteen straight minutes.Plus I chat about a recent gig with one of the most mixed audiences I've had in a while, give an update on the fundraiser for Griff, and in Weird News… someone has landed in trouble after taking googly eyes a little too far.Support the show

Send a textIn Episode 209, Lovdev tackles petty sleepover politics, Kinder Egg disappointment, colourful backyard mysteries, and what might be one of the most unexpected organised crimes in the UK.Would you call out a kid for acting like a brat over a bagel? What happened to actual toys inside Kinder Eggs? What was that fast-moving, brightly coloured blur in someone's backyard? And why are fish and chip shops suddenly part of a slippery criminal trend? It's chaotic, it's mildly confrontational, and yes — it's oily.Support the show
UK Comedy legend Dane Baptiste was in Stockholm, so naturally he had to join Så vad händer for a chat. Jon sat down with Dane to discuss Blackness through the lens of a Carribean Brit. They discussed Black American influence and the impact American entertainment had on Black folks across the UK. Jon reflects on the disconnect Black Americans have from the continent and how they take the cultural reach for granted. Amat rounds off the discussion with his perspective as a Black Swede. There's talk of Diaspora Wars, blissful ignorance and The Fresh Prince. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Once described as the 'comedian's comedian' Stewart Lee has been performing stand up since 1988. He is known for pushing boundaries with his intelligent, self-referential and often provocative style of comedy but in his new show 'Stewart Lee vs the Man Wulf' he questions his place on the comedy circuit in an era of increasing populism rhetoric and the popularity of, in his words “$60m Netflix comedians of hate.” In this episode of Ways to Change the World with Krishnan Guru-Murthy he discusses the state of comedy today and what he thinks of the comedy style of comics like Ricky Gervais and Dave Chappelle as well as why he wouldn't tour America right now. As The Observer, the world's oldest Sunday newspaper begins a new era under Tortoise media he also reflects on his column for the paper which he's stopped after 15 years. Welsh comedian Steffan Alun joins us to get really serious about a movie that rarely gets the philosophical treatment: 2004's coming-of-age romcom 13 Going on 30. He's seen the movie countless times, and relates not only to Jennifer Garner's Jenna Rink, but also her boss at Poise magazine, Richard, as played by Andy Serkis (!).Then, Jordan has one quick thing about a new indie crime thriller called Your Lucky Day, featuring the late Angus Cloud in one if his final roles.***with Jordan Crucchiola and Steffan Alun

Welcome to our podcast where we discuss and deliberate over memoirs and biographies found in thrift shops. This is a great way to do things as we are not choosing who to read about. We may not be fans of the person, we may never have heard of the person and we never know who we are going to find next...There are only 2 rules to this podcast. The book has to be found in a thrift shop and we are not allowed to talk about the book until we press record, which is sometimes agonising. We have lots of episodes coming up so if you find yourself enjoying our podcast, please be sure to subscribe to be among the first to hear about each episode.THANK YOU FOR LISTENING
