The greatest male Mexican professional of all time with over 700 PGA Tournaments under his belt, graces our show to share his remarkable journey from humble beginnings – a childhood devoid of plumbing and adorned with dirt floors. He discusses the unwavering determination demanded on the PGA Tour, a path that emerged after a stint in boxing cut short by appendicitis, where he first learned of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through as he sold golf balls for a living, even resorting to unconventional methods like fishing them out of ponds with his feet. Starting his golfing journey with just one club, a 7 iron, he encountered a turning point upon meeting John & Rita Minnis, whose impact on his life was profound.Turning professional in 1986, he faced the grueling Q School a dozen times, contemplating quitting in 1993. However, he persevered, overcoming adversity to clinch victory in May 2013, becoming the first Mexican to triumph on the PGA Champions Tour on Cinco de Mayo, an achievement dedicated to his late brother. He shares the significance of celebrating victories with a left hook and delves into the current state of golf in Mexico, seamlessly transitioning to discussing his passion project – The Esteban Toledo Foundation, aiding orphaned and foster care children through initiatives like the "Home of Love" facility. We delve into his future, his poignant reflection on the meaning of "nothing," and his outlook on life after golf. Additionally, he discusses his book, a tribute to John Minnis and Mexico's National Soccer Teams, encapsulating his journey of triumph and dedication to his roots.Esteban Toledo Links:Official Website: https://www.estebantoledo.com/Esteban Toledo Family Foundation: http://estebantoledofamilyfoundation.org/HBO Special with Bryant Gumbel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhSKDXQ4JVQReflection Bay Golf Club: https://www.reflectionbaygolf.com/Before the Lights Links:Hire Tommy to Speak: https://www.beforethelightspod.com/public-speakingBecome a BTL Member: https://www.beforethelightspod.com/supportBefore the Lights Website: https://www.beforethelightspod.com/Get Tommy a Glass of Vino: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/beforethelightsSupport the showFollow the show on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beforethelightspodcast/Follow the show on Face Book: https://www.facebook.com/beforethelightspodcast/Follow the show on Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@beforethelightspodcast?lang=enFollow Tommy on Face Book: https://www.facebook.com/tcanale3Rate & Review: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/before-the-lights/id1501245041Email the host: beforethelightspod@gmail.com

In the early '80s, if you were a fan of standup comedy, or SNL, or just paying attention to pop culture at all, then you know Eddie Murphy's star was on the rise. In 1983, at the tender age of just 22, the up-and-coming comic toured the country with and ultimately released the now-legendary, HBO Special. ” Now, on the fortieth anniversary of that stand-up special we were all quoting in the schoolyards, we look back on Eddie Murphy's “Delirious!” Discord » GenXGrownUp.com/discord Facebook » fb.me/GenXGrownUp Twitter » GenXGrownUp.com/twitter Website » GenXGrownUp.com Podcast » GenXGrownUp.com/pod Merchandise » GenXGrownUp.com/merch Shop » genxgrownup.com/amazon Theme: “Grown Up” by Beefy » beefyness.com Apple » itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/genxgrownup-podcast/id1268365641 Google » GenXGrownUp Podcast (google.com) Pocket Casts » pca.st/8iuL TuneIn » tunein.com/radio/GenXGrownUp-Podcast-p1020342/ Spotify » spoti.fi/2TB4LR7 iHeart » www.iheart.com/podcast… Amazon Music » amzn.to/33IKfEK Show Notes Eddie Murphy – Movies, Children & Wife » bit.ly/45aBPUj Eddie Murphy Still Cringes at His Old Stand-Up Material » bit.ly/3RFRrfd Comedy classics revisited: Eddie Murphy, Delirious » bit.ly/3PRu699 How Do Eddie Murphy's Delirious and Raw Hold Up? » bit.ly/3tadwbC Ice Cream Truck! » youtu.be/Ft4kEk5CHrE?si=xVuL0R-lufH0Qiie Cookouts! » youtu.be/vc4Wt3ckNis?si=4i_BqYBAKx9CWt0_ Shoe Throwing! » youtu.be/f6S79fvc0oI?si=Qzf0zXgJi7JADyuj Cursing in the House! » youtu.be/jTr_5QZ4fsg?si=09rKbwmczJJbeOl4 Mail the show » podcast@genxgrownup.com Visit us on YouTube » GenXGrownUp.com/yt Learn more about your ad choices. It's time for us to dive into the FILTH of the music world once more as we search for the worst album ever made, yes, it's Trve. Crvp. Pop! time once again. Steve and Sam have got something genuinely bizarre on their hands today, as we look at the debut album from Hollywood A-lister Bruce Willis, The Return of Bruno, released on the 20th of January 1987.Willis was a star, but not a megastar, back in 1987, he was on the show Moonlighting, which had given him enough profile for him to get a $5m contract to be the face of Seagram's Golden Wine Coolers*... yeah, pretty weird that eh. Anyway, on the ads Willis danced and sang, pretty badly if we're being honest, but his performances, if legend is to be believed, were good enough for Motown Records to sign him and ask him to make an album full of soul pop and R&B numbers. The album was tied in with an HBO Special that portrayed Willis' alter-ego Bruno Radolini as a great, lost legend of the music world. It was ropey as hell, but Bruce got a number 2 hit in the UK with his cover of Under the Boardwalk. So it was looking goof for his music career. But, 18 months later a film called Die Hard came out, and... well, you know the rest. Is The Retun of Bruno any good? Dan from Skindred's mum likes it! What does it matter what we think!Trve. Crvp. Pop! is in no way associated with Seagram's Golden Wine Coolers... although we would be open to any sponsorship opportunities. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Welcome back to my very irregularly scheduled podcast Deep Focus, where I, Playlist.net Editor-in-Chief Rodrigo Perez, talk long or long-ish with different filmmakers, directors, writers, and actors. Today, my guest is none other than comedian/actor and podcaster extraordinaire Marc Maron. Maron has a new HBO special out, available now on HBO Max called, 'Marc Maron: From Bleak To Dark.' The special is funny, political in the best way, humanist, and also soulful and candid, dealing with a lot of things like grief, mortality, aging, and our current cultural climate. Maron and I get into all facets of the HBO special, the political content, the humanist content, and all of its various funny, touching, insightful, and barbed aspects. He also opened up to me about the late Lynn Shelton, the filmmaker who passed in 2020 during the pandemic and who was Maron's romantic partner at the time. Maron even opened up about the screenplay he was co-writing with Shelton before her death and his mixed feelings about reviving it and maybe making it into a movie—the short end of the answer is maybe not and maybe yes, one day, though he did reveal to me that he sent it to indie filmmaker Nicole Holofcener known for “Enough Said,” “Friends With Money” and her most recent Sundance film “You Hurt My Feelings.” Beyond that, we also got into his own evolution as a human being, which has gone from a grumpy, angry guy cliche to someone who speaks about the "evolving capacity for empathy" that we all carry within us. I think this was a meaningful and soulful conversation, if I do say so myself, so I hope you enjoy and share it. Stand-up comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer tells the truth. That's why she could never be in the closet, even as she stepped out on stage as a comedian in the 1990s. Suzanne experienced her big shift at 29 years old, when she was an aspiring actress working as a bartender. After one of her regulars urged her to try her hand at stand-up over a Finlandia martini, Suzanne was skeptical, but entered an open mic contest. She easily won… and hasn't stopped making people laugh since! As an out lesbian comic, Suzanne has been a true pioneer in the industry, opening new doors and shattering stereotypes for decades. She was the first openly lesbian comedian to appear on Late Night with David Letterman and to have an HBO Special. There's no definitive guidebook to parenthood. (It would sure be a lot easier if there were though, huh?) In episode 62, Adam and Marc wax lyrical with comedian, actor, writer, fellow podcaster, and dad Chris Gethard about toddler poop, fatherhood fears, vulnerability, and destigmatizing mental illness. With Chris' essay Dad On Pills serving as a guidepost, the conversation explores Chris' determination to normalize the conversation around mental health. After, Marc shares a mildly macabre incident in the segment "Did I Just Say That Out Loud?" Here is the audio of my TV Show "Laughs" from July 1987, #11 of the series for CBS. It stars comics John Fox as seen on Rodney Dangerfield's HBO Special, Comic musician Sam Guttman, regular performer in Las Vegas; and comic/actor Tim Wiggins, who was seen twice on the TV show "Nash Bridges". This was fun for me to share, as producing for television was one of my life's great joys. I know you will enjoy this short show!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/yourhostandmc)
