GOING HOME: “Charley's Way” is the opening episode to a drama streaming on Pure Flix about daily life in a hospice for terminally ill patients. It focuses on the facility's head nurse, Charley Copeland. Charley arrives at Sunset House at the end of her jogging commute. Her workday commences with the nurses' report, where the previous shift briefs the incoming shift, followed by a new patient arrival. The episode's trajectory turns to the patient and their family, and the thoughts and feelings they have about the patient's imminent death. Charley and the staff encourage them to have a healthy acceptance of “death as a part of life.”

The 3rd and 4th quarter issues of Alert Diver from DAN is on the streets. It is packed with great articles. One article in particular is from Becky Kagan Schott regarding her work on creating 3-D print outs of Great Lake shipwrecks. Sunset House on Grand Cayman is getting ready to open in January 2022. Great news from a great dive resort. Why are there two different dive flags? Scuba News recently ran an article of how this came about. RAID shook up the scuba training agency industry this week by offering free membership to their professionals and shops. Could this be a game changer? Last month I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Roxane Boonstra from the Coral Restoration Foundation. Roxane talks a little bit about her journey in the dive community that led her to CRF. Quite an interesting background. Roxane has been the coordinator of diving operations at the Coral Restoration Foundation in Key Largo and tells us about the volunteer program. Roxane also coordinates all of the training for interns as well as volunteers.

Raise the Reef is the Coral Restorations Foundations annual gala for reef conservation. It will be held in March 2022. Sunset House made the list as one of the 12 best house reefs according to a PADI blog. The Boston Sea Rovers 67th annual clinic took place on October 2 and 3, 2021. The move from March to October allowed for time recover from the pandemic and safely stage the event. Friday is mainly a workshop day before the show officially opens. With 39 daytime seminars, the film festival, plus an exhibit hall with over 40 booths, you stay very busy. The exhibit hall also featured artifacts from the Andrea Doria to mark the 65th anniversary of the sinking. It demonstrated that with tenacity and good planning that an in-person scuba show is possible. Congratulations to Nick Fazah and all the Boston Sea Rovers for a job well done.

In this episode we discuss Sunset House in Grand Cayman, defogging a mask, and Project Drawdown. Sunset House in Grand Cayman has been serving the dive community for over 60 years now. Let's hope they keep up the good work. Sunset House's rooms provide all the essential amenities you need to make you stay comfortable. Their boats are well maintained, convenient for diving and offer relatively short trips to some great reefs. Shore diving is spectacular with so much to see. Throw in My Bar and I rarely leave the grounds. Town is a short walk or complementary shuttle ride away. Keep up the good work Sunset House. https://www.sunsethouse.com/ Defogging a mask is a relatively simple skill. Too often however we see that this skill was probably not explained very well. If the mask is properly cleaned then a drop or two of any defog solution will be enough so long as you don't wash it off by rinsing too hard. We use Sea Drops from Gear Aid and it has served us well. Couple of drops, let it dry, quick rinse before entering the water and you will be all set. Simple but often not done correctly. We sometimes see people putting on the sea drops and then doing a heavy rinse essentially wiping out the benefit.   Project Drawdown is described as the most comprehensive plan ever produced to reverse global warming. It is that point in time when the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere begin to decline on a year-to-year basis.
