During the waning days of World War II, a group of American soldiers find themselves without a leader nor a mission so they decide to sneak behind enemy lines to attempt to steal a hidden cache of gold which even most Nazi's are aware of. Clint Eastwood (who plays the titular Private Kelly) leads an all-star cast including Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Donald Sutherland, Carol O'Connor, and Harry Dean Stanton. Directed by Brian G. Hutton (Where Eagles Dare), this is as much of a comedic heist film as war movie, let's see how they pull off their mission. As Pat says in today's episode, it's not a Good Friday, it's a Great Friday--which is fitting, as the guys review The Greatest Story Ever Told!George Stevens' epic adaptation of the life of Christ turns 60 this year, and it holds up as one of the most sprawling and "cinematic" tellings ever committed to film!In the latest installment of "There's No Stalgia Like Nostalgia", Ian and Pat talk about the film's spotty Biblical accuracy and undeniable visual poetry; the wild cast of characters (including Max von Sydow as Jesus, Telly Savalas as Pontius Pilate, and John Wayne's infamous quarter-million-dollar cameo as a Roman soldier); and Hollywood's "Jesus curse"!You'll also learn about the film's different versions--and which one to seek out for the best possible viewing experience!Subscribe, like, and comment on Kicking the Seat here on YouTube, and check us out at:kickseat.comXLetterboxdBlueSkyInstagramFacebookShow LinksWatch the Greatest Story Ever Told trailer.Keep up with Pat at HollywoodChicago.com.Listen to Pat's movie reviews on the radio at STAR 96.7.
Today on The ReWatch Party, Nick, Anthony, Elise, and Loren take on 1970's Kelly's Heroes, a World War II heist movie that somehow blends Clint Eastwood's squinting, Telly Savalas's endless grenades, Donald Sutherland's hippie tank commander, and Don Rickles trying really hard not to roast everybody. Between the practical explosions, real tanks, and a suspicious amount of leisure time during wartime, the crew digs into what made this oddball classic tick — and why it barely made any money at the box office. We break down the movie's strange mix of gritty action and bizarre counterculture vibes, plus some very questionable German accents. Along the way, we dive into behind-the-scenes chaos like Donald Sutherland's near-death experience, roast the aggressively cheerful soundtrack, and ask the real questions — like how exactly one plans to steal a sailboat home from a war zone. It's equal parts appreciation and roast session. Nick also shares the personal reason behind choosing Kelly's Heroes as his birthday pick. A sentimental connection gives this episode a little more heart, even as the crew debates whether Big Joe's endless grenades or Crapgame's side hustles were the real MVPs. As for rewatchability? Do the movie's laid-back charm and odd characters out-compete some challenges with slow pacing that may make it a tougher sell today? Listen to find out https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065938/
A (relatively) in-depth analysis of English singer-songwriter Peter Skellern in under thirty minutes.Peter Skellern rose to fame in the 1970s and had two top twenty hits on the UK Singles Chart: 'You're a Lady in 1972, which typifies his signature use of brass bands and choral arrangements and 'Hold On to Love' in 1975. In the 1980s, a decade before the Gallagher brothers, Skellern formed the band Oasis with Julian Lloyd Webber and Mary Hopkin. He also established a long standing musical comedy partnership with Richard Stilgoe. You're a Lady has been covered by many artists including Brigitte Bardot, Davy Jones, Dawn, Johnny Mathis, Hugues Aufray and Telly Savalas to name a few.On her 1985 BBC TV comedy series, Victoria Wood performed an affectionate parody of Skellern's musical style, accompanied by a brass band and choir, in a song entitled Skellern in Love.Skellern died in 2017. Since 2019, fans have crowdfunded CD reissues of his back catalogue. Two compilations have been released so far: The Complete Decca Recordings (2019) and The Complete Island and Mercury Recordings (2021) by Mint Audio. These collections feature all of Skellern's albums and singles from 1972 to 1982 (except music from the Happy Endings TV series). In 2024, another crowdfunding campaign was launched on Kickstarter to release the Happy Endings soundtrack on CD.In this episode I am in discussion with Dr. Andrew Webber.Mathew Woodallhttps://buymeacoffee.com/lownoiseWhy buy me a coffee?Low Noise is proudly ad-free. Blamison are back with a great episode on one hell of a film! 1972's Horror Express with Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and Telly Savalas is what would happen if Hammer tried to make John Carpenter's The Thing ten years earlier. Plus if you want to talk about representation on screen, then one of the under-represented great Christian denominations (which sounds suspiciously Protestant) is shown front and center in this film. Plus Cossacks!Other thing talked about: skateboarding maths, science's increasingly shady track record and Blake gets Cossacks and Hessians mixed up.Clip: "The Impossible Dream" by Christopher Lee
Send us a textVideo Version HEREEven if you have heard Telly Savalas' eerie ghost encounter, few know the full story. This wasn't just a celebrity sharing a spooky experience—it was a terrifying encounter that left him shaken for life. But what makes this case truly unique isn't just the ghost… it's the bizarre link to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Some YouTube channels have explored the first part of this story—but I'm not aware of any that have explored the disturbing second chapter.

EPISODE 60 - "THELMA RITTER: CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH" - 11/04/2024 There's a scene in the classic 1950 film All About Eve where Eve Harrington (ANNE BAXTER), a star-struck fan who has infiltrated the life of Broadway star Margo Channing (BETTE DAVIS), is telling the tragic story of her past to Margo and her friends. While Margo and company are drawn into the sad circumstances of Eve's life, Margo's acerbic dresser Birdie, played to perfection by the great THELMA RITTER, is not buying her sob story. After Eve finishes, Birdie mutters, "What a story! Everything but the bloodhounds snappin' at her rear end." This is probably the moment I fell in love with Ritter. With her heavy New York accent, diminutive size, working-class charm, and sarcastic zingers, she made a career of stealing scenes from big stars and making the most of her time on screen. She played characters wiser than most, and her characters certainly didn't suffer fools gladly. She is a cinematic treasure, and we celebrate her as our Star of the Month. On this week's Yadvina's Keys adventure, we go back to April 2021 with Patreon 61. And the most fun part of this trip in the Time Machine is that we get to hear Ronna (& Bryan)'s first reaction to EMILY IN PARIS Season 1, which at the time was all the rage on Netflix. Here's how Patreon 61 was described originally. "OK, there's no need for alarm. Ronna's having some eye issues today, which explains her Telly Savalas glasses. But she's off to the doctor after the recording, and no, (Bryan) won't be driving her there, excuse me. Until then, how about a Carriage House Catch-Up? After an in depth analysis of the gloriously bad EMILY IN PARIS, Ronna (& Bryan) give some advice on a VERY interesting situation involving childhood friends, a pathological liar, and her wedding. This is a good one!" On a related note, don't forget that we've got some watchalongs of the new fourth season of EMILY IN PARIS on Patreon right now. Telly Savalas. Keith Gordon. Greece. Strife. Big dogging. Is this movie fantastic? Is it whatever? Are the two leads weirdly fantastic? Is this video the only place you're going to find any footage of this movie? I am the man now, dawg? Tune in! We covered absolutely every Keith Gordon thing we could find. We dug deep. I emailed people, I tried to find torrents in weird places, I checked archives. I almost bought a betamax copy of "My Palikari", but then I'd have had to buy a Betamax player (I probably would have been $400 in on one movie if I'd done that). But? I spend way too much money on a VHS of it. It took me forever to find it, but here we are. This is probably the last Keith Gordon project we get to cover. And we specifically did it on video cause we have a lot of respect for ol' Keith and wanted to send him out nice. Catch up on all the other Keith episodes right here and then dive into Billy Crudup, Radha Mitchell, Robert Longstreet, Brandon Lee, Ray Liotta, John Cazale and spookies! Greg Mullavey on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson When one of my life's heroes walks off the screen into the reals and supersedes all expectations, that's a home run. So goes it with Mary Hartman Mary Hartman's, Greg Mullavey. I got a taste interviewing him on the Zoom a few years ago, but this go ‘round witnessing him honoring his craft onstage at The Garry Marshall Theatre as Jules Feiffer, in The People VS Lenny Bruce, being eyeball to eyeball sans screens for the first after the show, sharing a warm hug, and culminating with this chat, a master class on auditioning, acting and keeping it real, on screen, on stage, and in life, well, wow! We talked Greg's early days, his pro-basball playing father, a Red Sox, a White Sox, who went on to coach the Dodgers, first in Brooklyn then in LA which got Greg to Hollywood and transitioned him from stage to screen and back again. A late bloomer, first appearing onstage in the Army post his philosophy degree, 100+ shows later from Broadway to stages across the country to Los Angeles, most recently reprising his role as King Lear, Off-Broadway, 25 years later, and hoping to do so yet again. We talked acting school - his cronies, Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, and Harry Dean Stanton, and how a certain someone scored an Easy Ride… his first TV role opposite Telly Savalas, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman––Louise Lasser, Norman Lear, Mary Kay Place, Dabney Coleman, Martin Mull, Fred Willard… Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and how both went over with his folks… meeting Meredith MacCrae, their high profile marriage, his Broadway debut (the thrill), opposite Mia Farrow, co-starring off-Broadway with Marlo Thomas, iCarly and a new generation and his ongoing important theatrical collaborations with lawyer Martin Garbus and playwright Susan Charlotte shining a spotlight on human rights. We talked health, well-being, supplements, COVID, how he met Ariana, his partner of 25ish years, and why they made it legal. Greg's still starring on stage appearing on screen, coaching young actors, with no evidence of slowing down. And he's still learning lines - King Lear, for heaven's sake. I'll have what he's having! In this episode, we dive into the gritty vs. funny dynamics of "Simon & Simon" versus "The A-Team," exploring how each show portrayed Vietnam veterans. In our new segment, "Don't Quit Your Day Job," we witness a showdown between Telly Savalas and David Soul as they vie for the title of having the most delightfully awful song. And finally, in "Ode to a Dead Guy," we pay tribute to the life and legacy of Dickie Betts. Your source for your favorite retro-pop-culture. Telly Savalas. Keith Gordon. Greece. Strife. Big dogging. Is this movie wonderful? Is it whatever? Are the two leads weirdly fantastic? Is this the only place you're going to find any audio of this movie (actually you should go to our youtube and watch this episode. It's a video episode with clips from the movie)? You could even subscribe to us on whatever podcast platform you use, cause we put this on all of them. Also? Please review us on Apple Podcasts and you can tell us what movie you want us to cover and we will do it! What a deal!
What's this, a well-regarded science fiction conspiracy thriller which featured an all-star cast and yet no one remembers it?? Well yeah if this film happens to come out the same year as Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind....two BEHEMETHS from this era directed by master filmmakers/household names George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg respectively. Whereas this was directed by Peter Hyams....who actually built up a nice filmography himself over the next ten years including Running Scared, Outland, and 2010: The Year We Make Contact. And this being his breakout success which he also wrote, it has ONE hell of a doozy of a plot....Three astronauts (James Brolin, Sam Waterston, O.J. Simpson) are about to embark on a TRULY historic adventure, THE first manned mission to the planet of Mars! Except they're not actually going to Mars....they're supposed to stay on Earth and ONLY they are to know this. Hmmm....it's a massive space program conspiracy lead by the late, great Hal Holbrook who is orchestrating it from NASA. Fortunately there is ONE brave reporter who is out to uncover the truth and he's played by Elliott Gould. :) And of course don't underestimate the crazy aerial hijinks of a crazy crop-duster pilot played by the late, great Telly Savalas too while you're you're at it. :) Admit to yourself that it sounds intriguing. Pia Zadora finally returns to the bin! Yobo, Bobby, new guest Jeff, and Mike discuss this Pia Zadora, Telly Savalas crime caper in Las Vegas. Despite being financed by Pia's then husband, filmed at his hotel (The Riveria), and simply a vehicle for more Pia screen time, this is a strangely enjoyable movie! So grab a Pia-tina and enjoy extended scenes of Telly gambling and grabbing butts. This episode featured some technical difficulties in our first hour. If you're interested in seeing and hearing the almost four hour cut (including live watches of Telly Savalas music videos) check out our Patreon.
In early 1967, Telly Savalas appeared in two international movies edited from U.S. TV shows.

The Yard Sale Artist himself, Jarrod Alberich is here with me, and we are going to talk about this awesome movie, as I've been wanting to cover this one for a long time! While we're in "post-pro" on our third season of Worst Movies Ever Played (coming soon!), here's a bonus made-for-TV style movie called Sunset House from the mid-80s horror anthology series Stories Related to and Generally Concerning the Graveyard. No one who stays the night survives until morning, and when the house traps Percy and Kushy inside, they soon learn why. This special episode is a crossover with Shelterwood, an upcoming 16 episode docu-horror audio fiction series about a missing girl, an impossible suburb, and the American dream. After some Goldfinger and Thunderball trivia that you can play along with, Michael, Rob, and Karen Flieger talk about George Lazenby's grounded and human James Bond, Diana Riggs' lovely and kickass Tracy di Vicenzo, and Telly Savalas' tough and brutish Ernst Stavro Blofeld. It's an unusual entry in the series, but is it also good? Once they settle that, the panel wraps with some On Her Majesty's Secret Service trivia, too.
