The Minnesota Timberwolves made a move at their head coaching position. It was very odd to see an NBA team fire a coach mid-season, have the replacement come from another organization AND receive a long-term deal. Discussion on hiring practices and opportunities for minorities. Chat on the concerns the NBCA have about the Minnesota Timberwolves new hiring.Stephanie Ready, Turner SportsStephanie took part on the NBA TV broadcast of HBCU games this past week in celebration of Black History Month. Was over the moon excited to be a part of the telecast especially being an HBCU grad herself. It gave people a glimpse of what life is like at an HBCU. The women took full advantage of the spotlight and showed out during their game. Hopes to see more of these games aired on television. It was historic in that it was the first time NBA TV aired college basketball games. The day was a huge success. Its good to see student athletes say, what can I do for this HBCU, instead of what can this HBCU do for me. There are lots of D-1 HBCU schools and everything a student athlete is looking for in a school, can be found in a HBCU. We are starting to see billionaires put money into HBCUs. This is a game changer. Theo Ratliff, Former All Star F/CKudos to the players that has stepped up to support Timberwolves assistant David Vanterpool. He should have at least been named interim head coach. Theo has never seen a coach hired mid-season from another organization and signs a long-term deal. Coaching changes are a major distraction for players. Especially when you go out of the organization mid-season for the replacement. Minnesota wasn't thinking about the players when they made this change. The season is starting all over for them. Adam Silver is doing an excellent job of listening to the players when it comes to social justice. Theo reflects on his All Star career. Theo was known as a big time shot blocker and defensive player. Talks about how he got to the University of Wyoming from a small town in Alabama.

Doc has been telling people to stay away from sugar for decades. Callers David's cousin is recovering from the Covid 19 and is a type 2 diabetic. Larry Shyatt, Basketball Coaching and Life Guest: Larry Shyatt, Former Assistant Coach of Dallas Mavericks In this week’s basketball coaching conversation, Larry Shyatt joins the Basketball Podcast to discuss all things coaching including best teaching concepts, transition defense, free throw practice, the NBA and NCAA, changes in the game, culture and so much more. Larry Shyatt has been a highly respected and successful coach at the collegiate level for decades. Shyatt is currently on a hiatus from coaching after having spent the last few years with Rick Carlisle’s staff with the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA. In 2015 Shyatt led the Wyoming program to just its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1988, the same year also winning the Mountain West Conference tournament for the first time since 1988. Prior to his five-season stint at Wyoming, he was an assistant coach under Billy Donovan at the University of Florida from 2004-11. During that time, Florida won back-to-back national championships with a team featuring, among other players, Al Horford, Joakim Noah, and former Maverick Corey Brewer. Hailed for his defensive mind, Shyatt built one of the country’s best defenses during the 2014-15 season at Wyoming. Led by Larry Nance Jr., now playing with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Cowboys allowed just 56.4 points per game, seventh-best in the nation that season, according to Sports-Reference.com. Nance would become Wyoming’s first player selected in the NBA Draft since Theo Ratliff in 1995. Shyatt finished with a 117-78 (.600) record with the Cowboys. Before that, he was the head coach at Clemson from 1998-2003 — finishing runner-up in the NIT in 1999 — and assisted at Cleveland State, New Mexico, and Providence. Back in 2004, the Atlanta Hawks were a pretty bad team. With a heavy payroll and a team fading out of any playoff chances, the Hawks made the move to deal Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Theo Ratliff to the Portland Trail Blazers for Rasheed Wallace. The move freed up cap space for the Hawks in the future, but the Hawks had bigger plans, dealing Wallace 10 days later to the Detroit Pistons.I had Michael Lee on the podcast to talk this remarkable moment. Mike covered the Hawks as a beat writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was there when the Hawks made the two trades and saw Wallace’s only game in a Hawks uniform against the New Jersey Nets. For this podcast, Mike and I discussed the two Wallace trades, those 2003-04 Hawks that committed to tanking, his start in journalism, his passion for art, and some of the interesting cast of characters from that Hawks team. This included Terry Stotts, Jason Terry, Stephen Jackson, Boris Diaw and more. Download Episode 52
