Superior Court Judge Karen Beyers set the bond, which led to Monroy's release early Thursday. He faces charges including malice murder, feticide, and aggravated assault related to Campos' death on July 14. Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson expressed disappointment with the bond decision, citing the severity of the crime and the loss of both mother and child. Monroy's defense argued for bond, citing his lack of prior convictions and offering conditions like house arrest and GPS monitoring. STORY 2:  Gwinnett Sheriff Makes 47 Arrests in Surenos Gang Investigation The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office announced 47 arrests connected to the Surenos gang after a nine-month investigation. The probe, which involved surveillance, undercover operations, and collaboration with various agencies, revealed the gang's ties to Mexican drug cartels and their activities in firearm and narcotics trafficking. Authorities seized over $300,000 in cash, 14 firearms, nearly 200 kilos of methamphetamine, 37 kilos of cocaine, and 300 fentanyl pills. Dee Brown joins the show and opens up on a turbulent 90's decade in Boston. Brown is the lone Celtic that played Larry Bird and Reggie Lewis AND played for coach Rick Pitino. In this episode, we begin in 1990, when a rookie Brown becomes a Celtic in the midst of a major transition for Boston. After winning three championships and making eight straight Conference Finals in the 80's, Boston lost in the first round in 1988 and 1989. Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish's championship window was closing, but a young phenom, Reggie Lewis, seemed ready to take the torch and define a new era. In 1991 and 1992, Lewis averaged 25 points per game in the playoffs and the Celtics won over 50 games each year. But Boston's seemingly perfect bridge between the Bird and Lewis era suddenly collapsed in the summer of 1993. Lewis' 1993 season was cut short after he mysteriously collapsed in a playoff game. Shortly after the season, doctors cleared him, but as he was training at Brandeis University, he suffered cardiac arrest and died. He was just 27 years old. In the years following Lewis' death, the Celtics tanked out. They failed to win over 35 games from 1994-1996, and in 1997, they went 15-67, by far the worst season in franchise history. Enter Rick Pitino in the Spring of 1997, who was named the savior, but disaster would turn out to be the more accurate label. Midway through Pitino's first season as Head Coach and Team President, Brown was packaged in the infamous Chauncey Billups for Kenny Anderson trade. We hope you enjoy this episode. When you come across an “it's been a while since the Knicks did a thing in the playoffs” stat, it generally means you have come across any historic Knicks playoff stat. But, hey, do you know the last time the Knicks closed out a series with a Game 5 road win?Of course you do, it's the Allan Houston game. That was one of nine all-time road Game 5 victories that the Knicks have ever had. The eighth, to be exact, because in the Eastern Conference finals, Latrell Sprewell put 29 points on the Pacers to break a 2-2 series tie, followed by Reggie Miller shooting 3-for-18 and scoring eight points in Game 6, which the Knicks won, 90-82, to go to their most recent NBA Finals. An aside: We as a nation should be talking more about the time Reggie Miller came to Madison Square Garden with the season on the line and put up the John Starks game from the 1994 Finals. Three-for-eighteen instead of two-for-eighteen, and a made three-pointer on eight tries compared to Starks' 0-for-11, but still, eight lousy points and have a nice summer. Only, John Starks wasn't a Hall of Famer carrying the 1994 Knicks. He was a dude who had a bad night. Reggie Miller, on the other hand, is a Hall of Famer and also a choke artist whose signature moment only happened because he shoved Greg Anthony and somehow got away with it.It was Knicks in six in that Eastern Conference finals, which of course was best-of-seven, but the first round at that time was best-of-five, which is why Houston's shot kind of feels like it was in a Game 7.Not to take away from the achievements of the Knicks teams who won do-or-die Game 5s on the road — at Detroit in 1984, at Boston in 1990, at Miami in 1998 in addition to 1999 — but that's a different kettle of fish. A nearly equal sized kettle, as it accounts for four out of the Knicks' nine Game 5 road wins ever. We are not going to simply overlook Bernard King scoring 44 at Joe Louis Arena, or Patrick Ewing dropping a 31-8-10 at the Other Garden, nor Starks connecting for 5-for-9 from downtown in a win-or-go-home game in which the running-on-fumes Knicks started Terry Cummings and gave legit minutes to Anthony Bowie, and won by 17 points.Of the four times the Knicks have won a Game 5 on the road in a best-of-seven series, two have been series clinchers and two have not. The first was decidedly not, as the 1951 Knicks needed every bit of Connie Simmons' 26 points and Max Zalsofsky's 24 to stay alive in the Finals against the Rochester Royals. The Knicks forced a return trip to western New York for Game 7, but fell, 79-75 — two of those Rochester points scored by Red Holzman. Two decades later, Holzman guided the Knicks to all the rest of their road Game 5 wins. First was Game 5 of the 1972 Eastern Conference semifinals in Baltimore, where Jerry Lucas led the way with 20 points and 16 rebounds. The Knicks went home and won Game 6 and the series, 107-101, with incredible balance that saw Lucas and Walt Frazier score 22 apiece, with 20 each for Dave DeBusschere and Bill Bradley. That Game 6, by the way, is the last time the Knicks had four 20-point scorers in a playoff game. The Lakers did that in Game 1 against Memphis this year with Rui Hachimura (29), Austin Reaves (23), Anthony Davis (22), and some guy named LeBron James (21). Actually, if D'Angelo Russell (19) could have gotten one more bucket, the Lakers would've been the first team with five guys scoring 20-plus in a playoff game since Game 5 of the 1987 Finals (Danny Ainge, Larry Bird, Dennis Johnson, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish). Problem for that Celtics team was, the Lakers did the same dang thing in Game 2 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Cooper, Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, and James Worthy, and Los Angeles won the series in six.You know who else beat the Celtics? The 1972 Knicks, in five games, including 111-103 to padlock the arena by North Station for the summer. Or, for exactly one week before Game 1 of Bruins-Rangers in that year's Stanley Cup Final. That was the first time that the Knicks closed out a playoff series with a Game 5 road win. The second time, and the only other time that they did it in a best-of-seven?It was the last time the Knicks won the NBA title, with Earl Monroe scoring 23 and Willis Reed adding 18 and 12 to give New York its second title in four seasons. That's the last time the Knicks closed out a best-of-seven with a Game 5 road win, and the last time they won a title — 20 years before this retrospective piece that's now 30 years old. NFL Football Operations has implemented a “coach up” format to promote professional development for coordinators and other assistants. NFL – Bills, Bengals focus on playing with Hamlin home, recovering The Bills and Bengals can refocus on their next matchup now that Buffalo’s safety Damar Hamlin has shown remarkable signs in his recovery some three weeks after collapsing on the field in Cincinnati. Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and needed to be resuscitated in the first quarter of Buffalo’s since-canceled game against Cincinnati on Jan. 2. The teams meet in Buffalo on Sunday in the AFC divisional round of the playoffs. Bills coach Sean McDermott says his team has been uplifted by the sight of Hamlin starting to make regular visits to the team’s facility this week. WNBA – WNBA to play preseason game in Canada The WNBA will head north for a preseason game in Canada. The Chicago Sky will face the Minnesota Lynx on May 13 in Toronto. The trial in New York is the latest development in a tangled corruption scandal that dates back nearly a decade. The witness, Alejandro Burzaco, alleges that he and former Fox executives Hernan Lopez and Carlos Martinez conspired to bribe South American soccer officials for broadcasting rights to the Copa Libertadores and get inside information that helped them bid for the World Cup. Lawyers for Lopez and Martinez have asserted they are being framed. Tennis – American Jenson Brooksby beats No. 2 Ruud at Australian Open Jenson Brooksby has eliminated No. 2 seed Casper Ruud in four sets in the second round of the Australian Open. This upset comes a day after Mackenzie McDonald beat defending champion and No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal. So a pair of 20-something Californians have knocked out the top two players in the men's bracket at Melbourne Park. The 22-year-old Brooksby Brooksby is ranked 39th and is making his debut at the Australian Open. Ruud was the runner-up at the French Open to Nadal last June and at the U.S. Open to Carlos Alcaraz last September. American men Michael Mmoh, Ben Shelton, J.J. Wolf and Tommy Paul also advanced. But the highest seeded man from the U.S., No. 8 Taylor Fritz, lost. Tennis – Nadal MRI shows hurt left hip flexor; recovery of 6-8 weeks Rafael Nadal’s manager says the 22-time Grand Slam champion injured his left hip flexor during his loss at the Australian Open and could need about six to eight weeks to fully recover. Nadal had an MRI exam at a hospital in Melbourne under his doctor's supervision on Thursday. That was a day after Nadal got hurt during a straight-set exit against Mackenzie McDonald in the second round at Melbourne Park. Nadal was the defending champion and seeded No. 1 in Australia. In the 1980s, it was the Boston Celtics who ruled the East, with a combination of front-line toughness and the unparalleled skill of Larry Bird. When Bill Walton joined the team and was finally able to put in a full injury-free season, Bird, McHale, and co made it to the top of the NBA mountain one last time. Dan Shaughnessy chronicled this era in his fascinating book Wish It Lasted Forever. Be sure to go back and listen to episode 36 for the full story from Dan about those elite Celtics teams, Larry Bird, and that era. This episode is a mini-pod, an unreleased excerpt from episode 36 where Dan delves into the intriguing nutrition and wellness ways of former NBA All-Star, Scott Wedman. Scott may have been looked at as weird back in the 80s, but many of the approaches Wedman took to nutrition and off-court wellness are now commonplace. In this episode, you'll hear: What Larry Bird thought of Scott Wedman refusing to eat meat. How other teammates including Robert Parish took nutrition seriously.Insights into the dynamics of a player having their own trainer or physical therapist outside of the team staff.Relive the Celtics' 80s glory days in Dan's book Wish It Lasted Forever and check out his Twitter feed.

In Conversation with Lesley Visser

If you followed the epic battles between the Lakers and the Celtics in the 1980's, didn't you always wonder if Robert Parish (the "Chief") ever talked to Laker fan Jack Nicholson about the "Chief" in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? They did! Parish said Nicholson once came up to him in the layup line before a game and they had a chat. Unselfish and underappreciated, Parish considered retirement from the dysfunctional Golden State Warriors before Red Auerbach engineered the blockbuster trade for him in 1980, which also included drafting Kevin McHale. Robert loved the Celtic style - rebounding, blocking shots, passing, and constantly running to get in shape. Parish said he enjoyed looking across the court in Game 5 of the Finals in 1984 and seeing Kareem Abdul Jabbar, in the 100-degree heat in Boston Garden, with no air-conditioning, sucking on an oxygen mask. All his memories are polished gems.
