Sermon on the Mount E31 – Is it possible to evaluate the behavior of others in a healthy way? Jesus offers two parables that illustrate the wisdom needed to evaluate someone else's behavior. The first parable invites us to examine ourselves before others, and the second parable reminds us the necessary discernment for this happens only in a community of faith. In this episode, Tim and Jon discuss Jesus' teachings on how and when to speak into the lives of others.TimestampsChapter 1: To Judge or Not to Judge (00:00-10:30)Chapter 2: You, Your Brother, and the Speck (10:29-28:17)Chapter 3: Pearls, Pigs, and Dogs (28:17-52:05)Referenced ResourcesCheck out Tim's library here. You can experience our entire library of resources in the BibleProject app, available for Android and iOS.Show MusicOriginal Sermon on the Mount music by Richie KohenBibleProject theme song by TENTS“And that's okay” by Ian Ewing“Saib” by Porto Leone ft. Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraphs: - 219 (in 'God is love') - God's love for Israel is compared to a father's love for his son. His love for his people is stronger than a mother's for her children. God loves his people more than a bridegroom his beloved; his love will be victorious over even the worst infidelities and will extend to his most precious gift: "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son." - 444 (in 'The Only Son of God') - Jesus calls himself the "only Son of God", and by this title affirms his eternal pre-existence. He asks for faith in "the name of the only Son of God" (abbreviated). - 458 (in 'Why did the Word become Flesh'?) - The Word became flesh so that thus we might know God's love: "In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him." "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." - 678-679 (in 'To Judge the Living and the Dead') - Following in the steps of the prophets and John the Baptist, Jesus announced the judgement of the Last Day in his preaching. Then will the conduct of each one and the secrets of hearts be brought to light. Then will the culpable unbelief that counted the offer of God's grace as nothing be condemned...Christ is Lord of eternal life. Full right to pass definitive judgement on the works and hearts of men belongs to him as redeemer of the world. He "acquired" this right by his cross. the Father has given "all judgement to the Son". Yet the Son did not come to judge, but to save and to give the life he has in himself. By rejecting grace in this life, one already judges oneself, receives according to one's works, and can even condemn oneself for all eternity by rejecting the Spirit of love (abbreviated). Matthew 7: 1-6 1“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take […] The post To Judge or Not To Judge first appeared on Hope Christian Church.
Laurie Huston from News for the Heart is talking with physicist Tom Campbell on Judgment to Love. We discussed the unfortunate incident regarding the Dalai Lama and “Blow on my Face” or “Suck on my Tongue”. This incident is very controversial and many people have differing opinions ranging from anger to love. Tom brought up the three factors he believes were the issue. The first being people are insecure and have fear. Judging others helps them feel better about themselves. The Second is that we thrive on bringing down people we view as ‘better' than us. In this case the Dalai Lama is considered one of the most compassionate and evolved people in the world. To Judge allows us to bring them down to our level. It helps us see that those who are above us can become our equal. The third part that added to this sensationalism, is that we are hyper aware of children's rights. Tom shared an example in the 80's when there was almost a hysteria about child abuse. Tom's daughter ate strawberries and had a terrible allergic reaction. Think Will Smith in Hitch. When she was brought into emergency, the doctors questioned whether there was child abuse. We show a vulnerability to how children are treated. These three factors created quite the media frenzy. I wanted to explore why we Judge and how we can BE Love instead. Join us for this fascinating discussion! We're Getting to the Heart of what Matters!

Judgement is normal. Humans have been judging as long as we've been thinking, so don't beat yourself up if you feel yourself start to judge. But here's the thing: just because we feel it, doesn't mean we have to act on it. Next time you feel yourself start to judge, stop and ask yourself: am […] The post MOTM #416: To Judge is Human first appeared on The Movement Maestro. Do you deal with guilt and condemnation? Have you repented a thousand times and still feel guilty? You are not alone. Many people struggle with guilt and condemnation. Join Susan and me as we talk about this debilitating condition and look into the Word of God for the solution. There is an answer, and a way out, and it comes through the Word of God. Notes: OVERCOMING GUILT AND CONDEMNATION Christian or non-Christian. Maybe it’s something from before you became a Christian. Maybe it’s a personal failure, a broken relationship, a destructive habit, pain you have caused others. Reading: Jn 8:1-12 Text: “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.” (John 8:11, MEV) MT Jesus is not a condemner, He is a Savior. Condemnation (katakrino) to give judgment against. To Judge worthy of punishment. Difference between conmemnation and conviction. Conviction is essentially bringing to light an error or sin. Conviction is good because it shows you that you need forgiveness and change. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16-17, MEV) “Truly, truly I say to you, whoever hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life and shall not come into condemnation, but has passed from death into life. (John 5:24, MEV) HOW TO OVERCOME CONDEMNATION You must be born again. (John 3:7) You must receive your forgiveness. (Romans 8:16) No matter how many Pharisees say that you’re condemned, it Jesus says you are forgiven, you are forgiven. You must walk in the light of your salvation. (John 8:12, 1 John 1:7) HOW TO WALK IN THE LIGHT “go and sin no more.” Choose to follow Jesus Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12, MEV) Agree with God’s Word Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32, AV) For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:17, AV) Think like a child of God. (Rom 12:1-2) Talk like a child of God. (2 Cor. 4:13) Act like child of God. (Eph. 4:17) WHEN YOU SIN, CONFESS IT AND RECEIVE FORGIVENESS If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1John 1:9, AV) CONCLUSION Receive His forgiveness today and go and sin no more. To Judge or Not to Judge Pastor Alex Sands, Kingdom Life Church Series: The King and His Kingdom (Gospel of Matthew) / Matthew 7:1–6 May 9, 2021 Matthew 7:1–6 ESV 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. 6 “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you. James 2:13 ESV 13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. James 4:12 ESV 12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? Galatians 6:1 ESV 1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. James 4:12 ESV 12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? When NOT to judge: 1. If you think you know their motives . 2. If you are using your standards instead of God’s. 3. If you don’t think you could be wrong . 4. If you haven’t checked your heart first. Matthew 10:14 ESV 14 And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. Acts 18:6 ESV 6 And when they opposed and reviled him, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” Believers are called to be discerning. If Matt 7:1-5 is a rebuke of hypocritical judging, then Matt 7:6 is a rebuke of naïve , undiscerning acceptance. Christians are to avoid both extremes.
