How detailed are your employment agreements? If, as lawyer Tracey Mylecharane has observed, it's a simple one-pager outlining the role, it's nowhere near good enough. You want to legally protect you and your business from a disgruntled employee by providing a comprehensive document, that defines not only the role and responsibilities, but also items like social media policy, confidentiality, intellectual property, leave and entitlements, termination, and more. A lot of people are trapped into believing that they will only be successful if they burn the candle at both ends. In this episode of Big Dreams Great Teams™, I am joined by Tracey Mylecharane, an unconventional business lawyer who delivers confidence to small business owners. Tracey founded her business with an empower ethos and a commitment to educate and empower small business owners to back themselves, legally. Today, we discuss the legal side of hiring people and having a team in your business. We talk about what all business owners need to know from a legal perspective when they get to the stage of having other people working for them, whether they are building a team or engaging subcontractors. We discuss how important it is for business owners to know and be mindful of certain legal definitions before diving into the hiring process. Tracey shares some examples of common hiring situations and how easy it can be to fall into hiring headaches further down the track due to a lack of clarity at the start of the hiring process. Tracey shares how there are no shortcuts when hiring people, and discusses the importance of having the right legal documents in place to serve your business, and set both parties up for success. We talk about Tracey's ethos in business and the ways in which she educates and empowers time-tight business owners and entrepreneurs to navigate their obligations, minimise their risk, design tailored legal documents, and manage any legal roadblocks so that they can focus on driving business with confidence and peace of mind.Connect with Tracey:Get a copy of Tracey's free Annual Legal Checklist here - https://tmsolicitor.mykajabi.com/legals-checklist Instagram @tmsolicitorWebsite: www.tmsolicitor.com.au Connect with me:Website:www.paulamaidens.com Instagram:@paulamaidensconsultingFacebook: @paulamaidensbuildingawesometeams

I'm going be to be honest and share that it's less that this podcast episode is over due and more that this whole subject matter is!Meet Tracey Mylecharane my newly appointed solicitor. And yes it took me over two years of coaching privately and 18 months of hosting a mastermind to do the thing that is invest in legal support (and set up formal contracts). I had contracts mind you, but they weren't endorsed by a lawyer. Now that I've have made this move it's especially clear why it's so important to have done so. Because even though nothing catastrophic came my way (gratefully!), there have certainly been avoidable awkward style moments. But here's the thing.....Growing a business is a always about balancing what you need with what you want. And our individual perceptions are going to impact which you file under what column. For me....legal support was a want rather than need. Sorry Tracey!! I've now learned the error of my ways....and my audience is about to gain a whole tonne of insight as a result.I'm looking forward to hearing how this lands for you. Today I am joined by Tracey from TM Solicitor. Tracey is a business lawyer and will share her insights on dealing with the different types of copycats that we may encounter in our business life. There's been a bit of discussion online about it lately. Still, it's something that I think we all, at one point in our business life where we have somebody who either is copying our stuff, plagiarising it, or potentially even impersonating us. I did have one who set up an account in my name using my photo pretending, which was the one that is probably the highest level of copycat there is. They were then sending all of my contacts connection requests. I have no idea who it was to this day. But I had a few people help me out. We all reported the account, and it was shut down, luckily. But I don't know how I would have found out if someone else hadn't told me about it because it was literally that they had a connection request from me, and they thought it was strange. Luckily, I was already connected to her, and she knows me quite well. I had a look and realised that it was another account pretending to be me. So yes, this happens all the time. It's scary!
