I have some exciting news to share with you today and it's likely something completely unexpected. I've recently made a huge decision in my business which will enable me to really focus on my goals and vision for the future. So today I'm sharing 4 powerful insights from my decision-making process that I know will inspire you on your own entrepreneurial journey. The first point I want to bring home is the importance of making courageous decisions. It's not just okay, it's necessary. When you have a bold vision, you're taking the road less travelled, which often means facing judgment and criticism from others. But as a business owner, it's vital to trust your intuition and stay true to your unique vision and goals. By embracing and making bold decisions, you pave the way for extraordinary growth and success. One of the most powerful lessons you can learn is the importance of letting go of what others think about you, your life and your business. Judgment is inevitable but temporary, yet holding onto the fear of judgment can hinder your progress and prevent you from reaching your full potential. By embracing your desires and focusing on your own goals, you will be empowered to make decisions that align with your vision and values. We've all heard the saying, “what got you here won't necessarily get you there”. As entrepreneurs, it's essential to continuously evolve and adapt to new challenges and opportunities. In this episode, I talk about being discerning with your time and focusing on new actions and perspectives so that you can achieve remarkable growth. Don't be afraid to leave behind what no longer serves you and embrace new ways of doing things.Lastly, stop forcing things that don't align with your vision and values. If a particular strategy or approach feels forced or incongruent in your business, it's time to reevaluate and make some changes. Life and business are in a constant state of ebb and flow and by listening to your intuition and desires, you create more space for authentic growth and meaningful results. Trust in the process and be open to new possibilities.Remember, 2024 can be anything you want it to be. I hope this episode inspires you to make it happen.LINKS:Previous episodes mentioned:2024 Clarity: Casting Your Vision & Setting GoalsWho you need to be in 2024 to achieve your dream life and businessAchieve your goals in 2024 with this planConnect With Me:Free Download: Ideal Client Avatar WorkbookWork with me: 90 minute Business Strategy Intensive | 6 Month Accelerator Coaching Program
Welcome to the final episode of our new year planning series! Over the last few episodes, we have taken a deep dive into helping you reach your full potential for 2024. Whether you have ambitious goals for your business or personal life, this series is designed to provide you with the tools and strategies you need to succeed. Throughout this series, we've explored the Be-Do-Have model: who do you need to be, what do you want to achieve and what do you need to do to obtain your goals? Today, I share practical steps to help you apply all that you've discovered so that you can achieve your goals in 2024. Creating a clear vision for your business and setting annual goals is vital for the growth of your business, and we'll focus on developing a quarterly plan and breaking it down into strategic priorities. By following this process, you can ensure that your actions are aligned with your long-term vision and goals, leading to tangible progress and growth.Breaking down the process into manageable steps will help you see it through. Start by revisiting your vision for the business and identifying your annual goal. Then, divide your goals into quarterly targets, acknowledging the time constraints of each quarter. Next, categorise your priorities or strategic themes, such as marketing, program review or revenue targets. By doing so, you'll gain a clearer understanding of the critical areas that require your attention.Once you've identified your strategic priorities, it's time to define specific action steps that will drive you towards your goals. Avoid the trap of simply creating to-do lists that focus on shallow, short-term tasks. Instead, aim for actions that are directly linked to your long-term goals and overall vision. My aim for this episode is to arm you with a clear plan and actionable steps, so you can confidently set off on your journey to achieve your big goals for 2024. Remember, you are deserving of this vision that you have set for your life. This isn't reserved for other people. You are enough. Doing this work, embodying the person that you need to be, knowing where you're headed, is what is going to get you there.LINKS:Previous episodes in this series:2024 Clarity: Casting Your Vision & Setting GoalsWho you need to be in 2024 to achieve your dream life and businessConnect With Me:Free Download: Ideal Client Avatar WorkbookWork with me: 90 minute Business Strategy Intensive | 6 Month Accelerator Coaching Program
In order to have what you want this year, it's important to first identify the type of person you need to become. Imagine yourself on December 31, 2024 reflecting on all the incredible achievements and growth you've experienced in the past 12 months. Who is that person? What mindset do they have? What actions do they take? You'll find that by embodying the mindset and beliefs of this future you, you can pave the way to success.Today on the podcast, I build on the the previous episode where I discussed setting a clear vision and goals for what you wanted to achieve this year in your business. It's great to have goals, but if you don't look at what you need to change, or who you need to step into in order to achieve them, you won't get very far.In addition to understanding who you need to be, incorporating an action and completion bias is crucial. It's normal to face obstacles and setbacks along the way, but it's how we respond to them that matters. By focusing on taking consistent action and completing tasks, you build trust in yourself and progress follows.Creating a balance between your lifestyle and business is essential. Although it's important to dedicate effort and energy to your business, remember to prioritise other aspects of your life as well. Reflect on the kind of life you want to lead and find a balance that supports your overall well-being. I know for me, it all seems to be moving very fast and I don't want to look back on my life many years from now unhappy that I spent too much of my life working, instead of enjoying family time.I want you to take away from this episode an understanding that you can claim control over your business and life. Take the lead and make decisions that align with your goals and vision. Don't be a passive player; instead, actively shape your future. Ask critical questions, challenge the status quo, and don't be afraid to make changes or pivot if necessary. You have the power to create meaningful change.LINKS:An Explanation of the Be Do Have FrameworkSteven Covey - 7 Habits of HIghly Effective PeopleEpisodes Mentioned:Add power to your purpose, a ‘why' process you've never heard beforeConnect With Me:Free Download: Ideal Client Avatar WorkbookWork with me: 90 minute Business Strategy Intensive | 6 Month Accelerator Coaching Program
Who doesn't love a fresh start? The beginning of the new year is such an exciting time because you've just had a holiday, and you have the entire year ahead of you to achieve the goals that you are going to set for yourself. Over the next few weeks, I'm going to be running a planning series here on the podcast to help you get focused on the year ahead. In this episode, we'll start by casting your vision and getting clear on your long-term goals, to help establish what you need to do in the shorter term to achieve them.Your vision is where your business is heading, 10 to 15 years from now. It's a big stretch goal that should feel exciting and challenging. Take a moment to sit with your vision and visualise where you want your business to be. You can even jot down some ideas or create a vision board to make it more tangible.Next, let's consider your life goals and priorities for the next one to three years. This is crucial because it helps you understand what's feasible and aligns your personal life with your business goals. For example, if you're planning to have a baby or take an extended break, you need to factor that into your goals and timeline. Now, it's time to turn your vision and aspirations into actionable goals. Start by writing a list of all the achievements you want to accomplish by the end of this year. Think beyond just revenue targets and consider the specific actions and milestones that will contribute to your success. Break down your goals into manageable tasks, such as the number of discovery calls you need to make or the marketing initiatives you'll implement.Setting meaningful goals is essential because it helps you stay connected and motivated. Don't fall into the trap of setting goals based on what others are doing or what you think you should be doing. Take a step back and challenge your thinking. Ask yourself if the goals you're setting align with your vision and truly resonate with you.Remember, goal-setting shouldn't feel burdensome or overwhelming. Take the time to get into a positive headspace and feel energised before embarking on this process. Trust yourself and your abilities to achieve your goals. And most importantly, enjoy the journey of growth and progress.LINKS:Episodes Mentioned:Vision Boarding - use this process to achieve your goals in 2023Add power to your purpose, a ‘why' process you've never heard beforeConnect With Me:Free Download: Ideal Client Avatar WorkbookWork with me: 90 minute Business Strategy Intensive | 6 Month Accelerator Coaching Program

Can you believe that another year is drawing to a close? Despite how quickly Christmas has come around, I believe reflection is such an important part of our end-of-year cadence. So for this final episode of 2023, I'm taking a moment to reflect on the year that was, sharing the challenges I've faced, the growth I've experienced, and how I've navigated the ever-changing landscape of entrepreneurship.I always appreciate it when other business owners share behind the scenes because, particularly in the online space, it's easy to assume that everyone else has it all figured out. But I can assure you, it's not all smooth sailing for anyone. For me, the first half of this year was really challenging with some pretty big things happening on the personal front. But I can honestly say that I am grateful for the journey and the lessons I've learned through it all. Having been thrown a few curveballs this year, I was reminded of the importance of recognising our limits and preserving our energy. This led me to make a tough but necessary decision to take a hiatus from the podcast and review the goals I had set for myself earlier in the year. Stepping back like this really goes against my nature, but I've learned that it's okay to rest when life demands it. In this episode, I share a little deeper about the importance of taking care of yourself during challenging seasons and why it's not worth jeopardising your health or relationships to push harder. I began 2023 with ambitious business goals, including the creation of new digital offerings. However, as life unfolded, I had to reassess my plans. Client work and personal life required my attention, leaving me with little bandwidth for new projects. So, I had to adapt. I shifted my focus towards simplicity and embraced the path of least resistance. I share how this challenged me to leave my ego at the door and not attach my self-worth to what I delivered. Looking ahead to 2024, I'm making some changes to my offerings, focusing on one-to-one coaching, which I absolutely love. I also share some upcoming plans for deep-dive masterclasses and some brand new content I'll be sharing on the podcast in the new year. My journey through 2023 has shown me that business success isn't just about constant growth; it's about honouring your capacity, adapting to life's challenges and aligning your business with the life you want. I wish you all a fantastic holiday season and encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your year so that you can start 2024 with a fresh perspective. Have you ever returned from a holiday feeling like you need another vacation just to recover? Taking a meaningful break is crucial for your well-being and your business's success. In this episode, I'm sharing some practical steps to help you plan your holiday break effectively, so you can return in 2024 with a renewed sense of energy and purpose. The first step is setting an intention for how you want to feel when you come back from your holiday. Do you want to be full of energy, clear-headed, and ready to hit the ground running? By visualising how you want to start your work year, you're laying the foundation for a successful break and a clear path into the new year. One thing I've noticed is that many business owners underestimate the time they need for a proper break. As business owners, it's not just physical fatigue but also the mental load we carry throughout the year. I talk about the importance of taking a significant length of time away from work so you can truly unwind and come back refreshed. Once you've decided on your holiday closedown, think about what tasks must be completed in your business before you leave and if there are any tasks you can frontload for the new year. If your business allows, getting things out of the way early could allow you to extend your break without feeling overwhelmed with extra work upon your return.A key part of my holiday planning is my ‘no-go-slow' time framework, which I've discussed on the podcast before. I talk deeper into this today sharing how to divide your time into three categories: complete shutdown, client work and business-related tasks. Allocating your time this way is so effective in maximising the benefits of your break and having clarity on where you should be focusing your time. It's been a big year and I believe we all need to take a well-deserved break. I hope this framework helps you in planning out these next couple of months and make the most of this special time. Here's to a restful and rejuvenating holiday season!LINKS:Connect With Me:Free Download: Ideal Client Avatar WorkbookWork with me: 90 minute Business Strategy Intensive | 6 Month Accelerator Coaching Program
Values are such an important part of running a successful business. However, for many business owners, we don't often reflect on the values of our business until we're looking at our overall brand strategy. Today I'm sharing my musings on the importance of values, not just from a branding perspective but from the view that our values underpin everything we do, down to the everyday micro decisions. I speak a lot about the bedrock of your business, which is your vision, mission, and values. And while I often emphasise vision and mission, the significance of values can sometimes be overlooked. But until you define your values with clarity and align your actions with them, the foundation of your business won't be solid. Every decision, challenge, and interaction in our businesses presents an opportunity to uphold our values. The smaller, seemingly insignificant moments can shape our reputation and impact those around us. And in an era where profit sometimes supersedes people, it's crucial to remain mindful of the values we embody. Whether it's how we treat clients, communicate in our marketing efforts, or engage with our team, consciously aligning our actions with our values is key.Throughout history, we've seen examples of larger corporations operating out of greed and corruption, but the importance of operating out of integrity doesn't just apply to big business. The principle of values applies to businesses of all sizes. Each of us has the power to build a business that we are proud of, one that positively impacts others. Ethical conduct and considering the consequences of our actions on clients, team members, and anyone who interacts with our brand is essential. After listening to this episode I encourage you to reflect on your values. Are your values clear and front and centre in your mind? Or perhaps you're so busy working in your business that you haven't given much thought to the values of your business. Take this moment as an opportunity for you to reflect on what is important to you and how your values show up in your daily interactions. Because when you embody your values, your business will have a rock-solid foundation to withstand anything that comes your way. I'm so excited to bring you today's special guest, one of my favourite authors of all time, Jon Gordon, who has written 28 books, including my favourite book, The Power of Positive Leadership. I attribute so much of the success I've achieved in my business and personal life to Jon's work and I know you're going to absolutely love this conversation as much as I did. With a strong focus on positivity, leadership, and the importance of connection in business and life, in this episode, Jon shares his valuable insights on how these principles can transform both your professional and personal journey. He talks about the significance of our mindset, and how we must choose to operate out of love, not fear. Love brings connection, union and oneness with ourselves and the people around us, whereas fear brings division and separateness. We talk about how this principle can be universally applied to the way we operate our businesses, our personal lives and our relationship with ourselves. One of the things I love about Jon's work is how he simplifies concepts into tangible practices that are relevant in all areas of our lives and businesses. We spoke about communication and the importance of connection in client relationships. When we approach clients with a mindset of togetherness and genuine care, we foster empathy, commitment, and lasting relationships, which ultimately gives us a competitive edge.We also talk about the need to slow down and be intentional about caring for our teams, clients, and ourselves. Jon and I discuss the principles of "loving, serving, and caring" as the foundation of success and how by putting these principles into practice, businesses can thrive, customers will feel valued, and teams will stay committed.Towards the end of the episode, Jon and I discuss the importance of having a clear vision, mission, and values for both businesses and individuals. For entrepreneurs struggling with self-doubt and the onslaught of negative thoughts, Jon's encouraging advice was to maintain optimism even in the face of challenges and that through your belief, you create a better reality. We cover so much ground in this conversation and I have no doubt you are going to be encouraged and inspired by Jon's contagious positive energy. This episode is a powerful reminder that success is not just about what you do but how you do it—with love, service, and care.LINKS:Connect with Jon Gordon:Website:https://jongordon.com/LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/jongordonenergy/Instagram:@jongordon11Podcast:Positive UniversityBooks:https://jongordon.com/books/Connect With Me:Free Download: Ideal Client Avatar WorkbookWork with me: 90 minute Business Strategy Intensive | 6 Month Accelerator Coaching Program
When you've moved beyond the startup stage of your business and you find yourself in the messy middle, it's easy for chaos to creep into your business. This has a real impact on your business, your clients, your family, and ultimately, your health. But it doesn't have to be this way. With the framework and support in place, you can take steps to regain control and come back to running your business from a place of joy and ease. When you first start your business, your focus is understandably on getting things off the ground. However, as your business grows, not having a clear long-term vision can lead to chaos. Without a vision, you may find yourself distracted by bright, shiny opportunities and industry norms that don't align with your true goals. This lack of focus can introduce instability and chaos into your business. Today I share how getting clear on your vision, mission, and values will provide a roadmap for your business's future, helping you set goals and make informed decisions that align with your vision.Another thing that can wreak havoc on your business and personal life is a constantly fluctuating schedule. When you lack predictability in your client schedule, you might take on clients who don't align with your business or regret hastily made decisions. This unpredictability also makes it challenging to plan holidays and maintain a consistent work-life balance, which as you've heard me say many times before, is absolutely essential for building a sustainable business. The answer here is to establish a predictable client schedule which reduces uncertainty and stress. Properly managing your time, calendar, and productivity is also crucial for maintaining order in your business. Without structure, you may find yourself constantly switching tasks, procrastinating, missing deadlines and quite frankly, being inefficient. Moreover, when you blur the boundaries between work and personal life, you risk burnout and strained relationships. In this episode, I share how to combat this chaos by creating a structured calendar, designating work hours, and prioritising your tasks effectively. After listening to this episode I encourage you to take a broad look at your business and the way you operate from day to day. Are you feeling busy throughout the day but don't have anything to show for it?Are you spending nights and weekends working to squeeze in all the extra tasks you didn't get to? Do you know what your week will look like, or are you chasing your tail each day, unsure what will inevitably land on your to-do list? Chaos can manifest in various ways within your business, especially during the messy middle stage. However, recognising and addressing these chaos points can lead to significant improvements in your business, whether your goal is growth or simply more ease, profitability, and joy. This is a much-needed conversation today to talk about navigating the ever-changing seasons of business and life. Success is nuanced and ever-evolving and as business owners, we need to define our version of success and adapt to different seasons. Today I'm exploring how to honour what matters most during the different seasons of life and business and why accepting where you're at is vital for your well-being and business success.I really want to validate the juggle that many business owners face in trying to balance the demands of their business alongside challenges in their personal lives. No matter what your life situation, there will always be seasons of challenge. We need to be realistic about how these seasons impact us and adjust our focus to prevent burnout and frustration. The global landscape has been marked by significant changes and uncertainties, especially over the past few years. As business owners, we must adapt to these industry and worldwide seasons. Even within our businesses, seasons can vary. Growth seasons may demand more time and energy, whereas stable seasons allow us to maintain and enjoy our current level of success. Things can get particularly challenging when personal and business challenging seasons coincide. If you're currently in this season, I want to encourage you that you can get through it. And if you're not in this situation, preparing your business fundamentals, such as operational models and automation, will help you navigate these challenging times more effectively. As a business owner, it's essential to embrace the ebb and flow of seasons in both your personal life and your business. Success isn't about meeting someone else's standard; it's about defining your own path. Normalise your humanity, recognise the challenges you face, and adjust your focus accordingly. Your unique journey and your decisions shape your success. Remember, you can do difficult and challenging things, and no matter the season, you will be okay.LINKS:Connect With Me:Free Download: Ideal Client Avatar WorkbookWork with me: 90 minute Business Strategy Intensive | 6 Month Accelerator Coaching Program

As we gear toward the end of 2023, I want to set you a challenge. You can either choose to let your goals slip, or you can choose to go all in for the rest of the year. And doing this will require you to get really good at setting boundaries and saying NO. If you're constantly overwhelmed by endless commitments or have regrets when you say yes to things, this episode is a must listen for you. During this final quarter, it's so important to get intentional about how you spend your time and take stock of your priorities. Doing this will ensure that you have the time and energy to focus on the things that will really push the needle forward and achieve your goals. In this episode, I talk about setting boundaries and how this can be really uncomfortable, especially if you're used to saying yes to everything. But you don't need to justify your boundaries and it's not your responsibility to manage other people's reactions. Embracing discomfort is part of the process as you prioritise what truly matters. To successfully navigate your "no era," you must be aware of your choices. Every time you say yes to something, you're saying no to something else. I talk about why we need to avoid autopilot decisions and examine the impact of our actions. I share some poignant questions to ask yourself that will help you understand where you might be responding out of obligation, fear or ego and when it might be the right time to say no. So today I'm setting you a 10-day challenge. Really focus on what you're saying yes to during this period and ensure it aligns with your life and business goals. Being intentional about doing this will help you regain control of your calendar and create momentum in your business.Embracing your "no era" is a powerful step toward personal and business success. It's time to prioritise what truly matters and set boundaries that support your goals. If you've been grappling with procrastination, trust me, so many business owners struggle with this. It's a sneaky beast that can creep up on the best of us. So today, I'm exploring three reasons why business owners procrastinate and what you can do to overcome it. Have you found yourself constantly delaying client work and feeling like you're just going through the motions? Sometimes this can happen due to boredom. Perhaps you've been offering the same services for so long that you've lost that spark and the connection to your mission. It might even be that you've outgrown your services and they no longer challenge you. If this sounds familiar, in this episode I talk about how to inject some excitement into your business through new offerings. I also share how restructuring your organisation and workflow can make a huge difference. Another reason why entrepreneurs often fall into procrastination is because they have too many ideas. The endless possibilities of which direction you could take can leave you making no progress at all. I talk about focusing on one idea at a time, creating a clear plan of action and how strategies like time blocking can help keep you on track. I also talk about the benefits of seeking external support in the form of business coaching to help you prioritise and execute your ideas effectively. In this episode, I also talk about why you need to understand the reasons behind your procrastination in order to overcome it. Is your goal genuinely meaningful to you? Are you afraid of failure or worried about what others will think? Or perhaps you've failed to allocate dedicated time in your schedule for your goals. Start by pinpointing the root cause of your procrastination. Then, establish accountability, create a clear roadmap for your goals and allocate specific time into your calendar to execute those tasks. Procrastination can be a tough nut to crack, but you can overcome it. By acknowledging the reasons behind your procrastination and taking practical steps to address them, you can rebuild your self-trust and rediscover the joy in your business. Whether it's reconnecting with your purpose, honing in on your ideas, or staying committed to your goals, I hope the practical strategies I share today give you some tangible steps you can take to start moving forward today. The highs of running a business are exhilarating, but the lows can be absolutely gut-wrenching. Trying to stay afloat with endless to-do lists and constant demands causes many business owners to want to throw in the towel. But how do you know if it's time to call it quits? In this episode, I'm unpacking four reasons you might be considering quitting your business, a few things to address before making that decision and some telltale signs that it may be time to say move on. This one is also a rather vulnerable share as I talk about my experience saying goodbye to my first business and what led me to that decision. If you're struggling right now and considering quitting your business, I want you to know that I see you, and I'm here to offer support and insights that may help you navigate this challenging chapter. Today I dive into some detail about the following scenarios you might be experiencing:1. You Hate Your Business: Running a business involves overcoming numerous challenges, especially in the early stages. Over time, these challenges can become overwhelming, leading to frustration and a sense of despair. If you find yourself loathing your business, it's really important that you identify the specific problems causing your dissatisfaction.2. Financial Struggles: Financial difficulty is a significant source of stress for business owners. Whether you're not earning a livable income or your business is running at a loss, understanding the root causes of your financial struggle is vital. This may involve examining your pricing strategy, marketing efforts, or client acquisition methods.3. Burnout: Burnout is an all-too-common issue for business owners, particularly in the messy middle stage of entrepreneurship. If your business is draining your energy and negatively impacting your health, it's crucial to address burnout. This might involve scaling back, seeking support, or making structural changes in your business operations so that you can take some time out.4. Competitive or Declining Market: Economic challenges, such as a competitive or declining market, can put a strain on your business. While external factors can be daunting, it's essential to analyse your business's performance, expenses, and adaptability to determine if there's a path forward.Closing or selling your business is not a failure; it's a transition. Whether you choose to move forward or step away, remember that your story will continue and new opportunities await. I hope my journey inspires confidence in your decisions and that this episode provides you with a sense of comfort that no matter what, you're going to be okay. Are you feeling the weight of managing a business that's grown beyond recognition? Often in the messy middle, business owners feel stressed and overwhelmed by the never ending to-do list but it doesn't have to continue this way. If you're feeling trapped in your business and the way you're operating your business doesn't feel sustainable, now is a great time to consider a more minimalist business model. Today I'm talking about how a minimalist business model will help you simplify, streamline, and regain control of your business, creating so much more space for you to focus on the things that matter. Just as we declutter our homes in the Spring, the minimalist approach involves decluttering your business. It's all about simplifying, becoming more intentional, and boosting efficiency. Remember, a minimalist business model doesn't mean you have to abandon everything. It's about curating what matters most.In this episode, I share some practical ways that you can begin to steer your business to a more minimalist and sustainable model. First, it's time to refine your offerings. Keep what aligns with your vision and release what no longer fits. Remember, quality over quantity. Next, focus your marketing efforts. Tailor your strategies to your strengths and the preferences of your ideal clients. This means less scattered energy and more impactful results. And don't forget about optimisation. Streamline your operations through automation or outsourcing. With the clutter gone, you'll finally have the mental space to focus on what truly matters. You don't have to dive headfirst into minimalism and completely revolutionise your entire business. Take small steps, let go of the excess, and make room for the extraordinary. Remember, this journey isn't about discarding everything; it's about crafting a business that truly aligns with your vision and aspirations. I am so excited to dive into today's conversation with Ashton Whitmoyer-Ober, also known as Enneagram Ashton. I've been an avid follower of Ashton's Instagram since 2019 and have loved her insightful posts and ability to decode the complexities of the Enneagram. So today, we are diving in deeper to talk about how understanding your Enneagram profile can help you both personally and in your business. Ashton is an Enneagram expert who is dedicated to helping people better understand themselves and others by educating them on the Enneagram. From personal experience, understanding your Enneagram type is a profoundly uplifting journey. It offers a unique lens through which we can view ourselves, our motivations, and the beautiful tapestry of human behaviour. In this conversation, we talk about why the Enneagram isn't just another personality test. It's an ancient system that categorises individuals into nine distinct personality types. What sets it apart is its focus on motivations and underlying fears, not just observable behaviours. Ashton takes us through each type, shedding light on their desires, fears, and typical traits.Ashton highlights how the Enneagram goes beyond surface traits and delves into the "why" behind our actions. It's an incredible tool that helps us explore our deepest motivations, paving the way for genuine self-awareness. The Enneagram isn't about confining us to a box; it's about understanding our tendencies and working towards becoming the best version of ourselves. We also talk about how the Enneagram can support entrepreneurs and Ashton beautifully explains that by understanding our type, we can make informed decisions about areas we excel at and where we might need assistance. For me, the most powerful aspect of the Enneagram is the awareness of yourself and others. It's a tool that empowers us to embrace our strengths, work on our growth areas, and foster more meaningful connections, both personally and in our businesses. I can't recommend this episode highly enough and I know you're going to get so much out of this conversation. I know firsthand that running a business can be like riding a rollercoaster of emotions. The thrill of landing that dream client, the overwhelm of endless to-do lists, the fear of uncertainty – it's all part of the journey. As a business owner, you're on a personal development adventure like no other, filled with highs and lows that shape your growth. But remember, you're not alone in this. That's why today, I'm talking about the power of business coaching to help you understand when or if you should hire one. When it comes to coaching, there are two main paths – group coaching and one-on-one coaching. Group coaching is like joining a learning community, where you explore a structured curriculum together. It's an opportunity to learn not just from a coach but also from fellow participants. On the flip side, one-on-one coaching offers you a deeply personalised experience where it's all about you, your unique challenges and your business dreams. This is the type of coaching I do with my clients where we delve deep, tackle vulnerabilities, and create strategies tailored to your growth. In this episode, I explain some of the differences between group coaching and one-on-one coaching to help you understand what might be the right fit for you. I also talk about understanding the right timing in your business and the various stages in which hiring a coach could be beneficial to you. Where I shine is helping business owners in that "messy middle" stage, when they have grown out of the way they did business in the startup phase. Having a coach on your team during this season will help you completely transform your business model to set yourself up for sustainable growth. I talk about how coaching not only revamps your business but also completely reshapes your life. Remember, this journey extends beyond coaching – it's about crafting a life that resonates with your vision. Choosing to engage with a business coach isn't always easy. It can be tough to look at things from a different perspective so you need to arm yourself with a growth mindset during the coaching process. It's about being open to unveiling your blind spots and setting yourself on a path towards impactful change.Boss, if you're at a pivotal juncture and you have a desire for growth, it might be the right time for you to consider business coaching. If you're ready to explore my coaching programs, I'd love to connect with you and see if we're the right fit. If you're like many business owners and email marketing has made its way into the too hard basket, this conversation might just reinspire you to give it another crack. I'm thrilled to be chatting with social media marketing extraordinaire, Jenn Donovan, about how to simplify the often complicated arena of email marketing. A seasoned marketing strategist and the host of Small Business Made Simple podcast, Jenn shares why cultivating an email list is a must-have for every business. When first starting out, many business owners start by creating an Instagram or Facebook account, but they neglect to think about the huge benefits of email marketing. In this episode, Jenn shares her tips on how to go about building out your email list. We talk about lead magnets and why they should provide value to the point where someone would be willing to pay for them. However, instead of paying money, your clients are paying for your lead magnet with their email address - a very high commodity. There's no point in having an email list if you don't do anything to nurture those relationships. Jenn talks about what it means to nurture your audience by sending out email sequences and how to implement a re-engagement strategy if it's been a while since you've contacted them. One thing a lot of business owners struggle with is knowing what content to share in email marketing. Jenn talks about the power of repurposing content that you are already sharing through your social media and that even if the email doesn't get opened every time, it still helps with brand recognition and keeping your business front and centre. The main thing is to stay consistent. Don't get into manic marketing where you send a bunch of emails out for a few weeks and then go silent. Make sure you create a plan that will be sustainable for you and don't worry about everything being perfect. The best business advice Jenn received was “ready, fire, aim”, meaning that you don't need to have everything figured out before you give it a go. Just get started connecting with your audience, consistently showing up and nurturing those relationships. They signed up to your email list for a reason! I spend a lot of time observing businesses and I'm so curious about the moves small business owners make when it comes to their marketing initiatives. If you're struggling to reach your ideal client or you're not even sure where to begin when it comes to marketing, this episode is for you. Today I'm sharing 5 common mistakes that I see business owners making and what you can do instead to really connect with your audience and drive your business forward. When it comes to marketing, you simply cannot separate it from your business strategy because this is what sets the foundation for how you run your business overall. I share why your marketing needs to align with your business strategy and your business goals and the issues you might come up against if you focus on a standalone marketing strategy. Manic marketing is another mistake I see quite often. This is when a business is on-again, off-again with their marketing efforts but the trouble here is that the inconsistency can actually throw off your audience. I share why it's important to establish a steady, sustainable marketing rhythm that aligns with you and your business. Every business is unique, which is why when business owners copy other people's marketing tactics, they don't come across as genuine, authentic or unique. This certainly won't attract your ideal client. You need to deliver your message in a way that makes your voice penetrate all the noise instead of sounding like everybody else in your industry. Even if your messaging is authentic and aligned with your business strategy and goals, you're going to struggle to attract your ideal clients if you're not meeting them where they are at. This is relevant in terms of marketing methods and platforms, but also communicating to your audience in a way that really speaks to the struggles they are facing and in a language they will understand. I hope this conversation is helpful to you and I really encourage you to take a close look at where your business is at before taking action. Throughout this episode, I share some reflection points for you to consider so that you can really hone in on how your business is tracking and where your marketing might need to be tweaked. You're not alone if you're tired and unmotivated after yet another non-typical start to the year. Many business owners are feeling this way, so today I'm talking about how to get re-energised and re-focused to get you back on track and ready to tackle those big business goals for the remainder of the year. The second half of the year is a time for building and up-levelling. This is the time when you can really lay down the groundwork for an amazing year ahead. This means that now is the perfect time for a mid-year reset, which is exactly what I'm guiding you through today. Often at the midway point, we can get caught in a rut, doing busy work but not really pushing the needle forward. Maybe you're feeling unexcited about the goals you set for yourself in January or even a bit derailed by the events of the first half of the year. But taking the time to go through a mid-year reset can really help you reconnect to your vision and feel inspired for what you want to achieve for the rest of the year. Today I'm guiding you through the five R's of what to consider during your mid-year reset. These are:Reflect on where you've been to identify challenges and opportunities.Reconnect to your purpose and why you started your business in the first place.Refine your focus and intentions to avoid overwhelm and stay on track.Reset your goals and create a plan to achieve them.Restructure your time and set your calendar up for success. In this episode, I'm sharing practical tips and strategies for each step of the reset process, highlighting the importance of clarity, intention, and balance in achieving business success. I also talk about the importance of establishing healthy habits and boundaries in order to prevent burnout and create a sustainable business that stands the test of time. After listening to this episode, I really encourage you to take the time you need to go through this mid-year reset process. On the other side, you'll have a fresh perspective of what lies ahead for you and your business and be ready to take action on those big goals you've set for 2023. As a business owner, navigating through uncertain economic times can be challenging and overwhelming. But during times like this, it's important to remember that you have already weathered many storms and proven your resilience. In this episode, I'm sharing some tools, tactics, and strategies to help you thrive in the current economic climate, not just survive. One crucial thing to understand is that money is still circulating. Yes, buyers are becoming more discerning in their investments but this is not the time to panic or bury your head in the sand. On the contrary, we as business owners can take this as an opportunity to really dig in and do the work necessary to adapt and thrive. In this episode, I talk about the importance of getting smart with your money but also making sure that you don't scrap important investments that support and drive your business growth. Be intentional about where you cut costs. While avoiding marketing during uncertain times may be tempting, it's important to remember that many successful businesses have flourished in challenging economic conditions. I talk about aligning your messaging and marketing to the current needs and problems of your ideal clients. This is where it's important to get out there and really pay attention to what is going on. Now is also a really crucial time to review your business strategy. Relying on outdated tactics and strategies won't cut it. I talk about why it's important to take the time to conduct a strategic review, considering the current state of your market and the impact of changes on your business. This will help you understand if your messaging is still relevant or if your offerings need to be adjusted to meet the needs of the market. A solid mindset is foundational to business success at the best of times and even more so now. In this conversation, I encourage you to focus on solutions and opportunities rather than problems and let go of areas that aren't within your control. We might not be able to control the global economy, but we can take care of ourselves and make sure we are surrounded by supportive communities to help us thrive, not just survive. Today I'm thrilled to be sharing Part 2 of my incredible conversation with Cherie Clonan. If you haven't already listened to last week's episode with Cherie, I urge you to dive into that before you tune into today's episode. We chatted about building a strong online brand, and Cherie shared her insights on authenticity in business as a proud autistic woman. In this episode, Cherie and I discuss all things neurodiversity. We talk about creating a safe space for neurodivergent people in and out of the workplace and how neurodiversity plays out in small business. As CEO of The Digital Picnic and leader in neurodiversity advocacy online, Cherie generously shares with us her own journey of being diagnosed as autistic. She talks about the sense of freedom and empowerment she felt upon finally understanding the way she is wired, and how it informs the way she runs her business. We now live in a digital world, which gives us every reason and opportunity to get ourselves educated. Cherie and I discuss the importance of being proactive in our own learning, rather than solely relying on autistic folk to educate us on their experience of living. We talk about having transparent discussions with those around us at work, and how understanding the way we each function not only creates healthier relationships, but mitigates the potential for conflict.Cherie runs us through her approach to creating a safe space for both neurodivergent and neurotypical people in her business. She talks about her no-compromise attitude when it comes to her own boundaries, as well as protecting her team members from any damaging behaviour that may arise. At the end of the day, making assumptions about someone else's way of being can cause so much divide. We are responsible to get curious about one another and find a deeper understanding of our differences. This not only makes us better business leaders, but more empathetic and connected humans.I could barely bring myself to end this fascinating conversation with Cherie, and I know you'll find it as inspiring and thought-provoking as I did. May we all do better to truly educate ourselves about others, take what we learn and put it into practice. So - cultivating a deep sense of self-compassion is a big part of my self-care routine. I reveal how, with practice, nurturing a practice of self-compassion allows you to look after yourself in a way that no one else can for you.Nootropics, anti-ageing supplements and eating well are also a component of my self-care. I share how on the days I miss these, I really feel it! Supplements are such a great way to keep your focus, maintain that feel-good energy in your brain and stay focused on the work.Structure, systems and simplicity in my business are vital for my self-care. After going through burnout, I am determined to never go there again, so maintaining simplicity is vital.Lastly - sleep! I am very guarded about my sleep habits and need on average nine hours of sleep. This keeps me rested and performing at my best. While none of those practices are particularly groundbreaking, combined they are powerful. A consistent effort with self-care all adds up. I hope this encourages you to think about your own self-care and take the time to work out how you can start implementing what might work for you.LINKS:Previous episode mentioned:Ep 101 - Thriving as a parent AND a business owner with Yara HearyConnect With Me:90 minute Business Strategy IntensiveFree Download: Ideal Client Avatar WorkbookWork with me: Business Strategy Workshop | 1:1 Business Accelerator ProgramJoin the waitlist: The Run Your Business Like a Boss AcademyInstagramLinkedIn
There are a lot of expectations and shoulds on our shoulders as business owners. At times, we have the capacity to take everything on board and really push the needle forward, and there are other seasons when we just don't have the bandwidth to show up in the way we'd like to. With the demands of life and business, our capacity fluctuates, and that's okay. There will always be ebbs and flows in business. So today, I'm diving into five things that will help you be more consistent across your business, even when your capacity is limited. In this episode, I'm focusing on how to stay consistent across three main areas that are sticking points for many business owners. These are showing up online, working towards your goals and client work. I discuss some specific examples of what this looks like within my business and also share some tools and prompts to help you create consistency in yours. I talk about setting habits and systems to create a pattern of behaviour that helps you to stay on task. This is something that has specifically impacted the way I show up on social media and I share how this also relates to your goals and client work. I also talk about outsourcing and looking at tasks that aren't just outside your zone of genius. If you are feeling bored, you're procrastinating, and struggling to stay consistent in an area of your business, think about the purpose behind what you're doing. I talk about how taking a step back and really thinking about why you're doing what you're doing will help you gain clarity and create meaning behind your work. I also discuss the concept of attaching intrinsic and extrinsic meaning to your goals and how this can benefit you. As I coach, I understand the power of accountability and how this can really help business owners go from strength to strength. Whether it be through a business coach, a family member or outsourcing like I do with my podcast producer, accountability is a great way to help you stay consistent in your business. Last but certainly not least, I talk about keeping things simple. This is something that is intrinsic to the way I run my business and it means that I can show up for the things that are really important without feeling drained. I share some questions to ask yourself about how you can simplify the processes across your business and why simplicity is underrated.I hope you find some great takeaways from this episode and that it helps you to think about where you could make some tweaks in your business to create the consistency you need in your business. In order to create any meaningful change in your business, you first need to understand what problem you're trying to solve. My goal for this conversation is to create awareness around 5 common mistakes that I see business owners in the messy middle make and what you should do instead to nurture a sustainable business aligned to the life you want to live. Growth is essential, but growing too quickly can actually be detrimental to your business. I talk about making sure you have the systems, operations and structure in place to sustain your level of growth and what can happen if your business grows too fast. Another important aspect of business is strategy. Without a solid strategy in place, you'll find yourself following the advice or tactics laid out for you online, which is a quick path to shiny object syndrome and a mismatched content strategy that doesn't land for your clients. I talk about why you need to deeply understand what your business is, who you want to serve and the vision you're working towards.Another easy trap to fall into is making things too complicated. I talk about overhauling your entire business to simplify and make things manageable for you, not just creating offers for the sake of it. The great thing is, you don't need to do business the way it's been modelled to you. You get to rewrite the rule book. Something I've often spoken about on the podcast is the importance of designing a business for the type of life you want. You are not designed to work around the clock for years on end. This isn't sustainable and it certainly won't allow you the time and energy to enjoy life to it's fullest.I also talk about embracing the journey and not getting fixated on the destination. Yes, goals are important, but destination addiction will stop you from finding joy where you are at now. I encourage you to think about what is bringing you joy in your life and business today, and celebrating the wins along the way. I hope this episode resonates with you and that it brings some insight as to where you might be needing to tweak things in your business today. There are many difficult aspects of running a business, but none much harder than things going pear-shaped with a client. Managing a challenging client relationship is lonely and triggering, and can leave you feeling rattled at best. So if you've ever found yourself ruminating over a tough situation with a client, I know you're going to get a lot of support from today's episode. The truth is, most business owners will experience a tricky interaction with a client at one time or another. But when you have a long history of client satisfaction, it can really catch you off guard. You beat yourself up or end up feeling really alone. So what do you do when it all goes wrong?I talk about normalising challenging client experiences and step you through a few things that I've personally found helpful in the past. I discuss taking an objective view of the scenario to understand what was in your control and what was outside it. Was there something you could have mitigated from the outset? Did you and your client have mismatched expectations? Or perhaps there were external factors that you just couldn't have anticipated.I speak about imposter syndrome and the danger of using negative experiences to validate our fears. Taking the emotion out when analysing a situation is important to be able to approach the issue with a clear head and sound mind. There are times when clients may push boundaries or overstep on things you're firm on. What are your values when it comes to not succumbing to your client's demands? I encourage you to stand strong and never lay down your value system. I also share some practical ideas on how you can salvage a difficult client relationship without betraying your own principles. I encourage you to take the time to review and reset when you face a hard encounter. Remind yourself of the evidence that shows things are working for you. Think of the amazing results your clients have achieved with your help. Define yourself by all the times you have shown up, and not by the situations that were less than ideal. If you have been facing a difficult challenge with a client, I hope this episode offers you some valuable support. With the right perspective, you really can move forward through a hard time with clarity and a renewed sense of confidence. A lot of my listeners are juggling parenthood and running businesses, with many others looking to start families in the next twelve months. I myself know the challenges this balancing act can present. So for today's episode, I sat down with the lovely Yara Heary who shares her insight into thriving as both a parent and business owner in today's busy world. Yara is a therapist and owner of Life After Birth Psychology, where she works with mothers both one-on-one and in a group program. Yara believes that we deserve joy and to thrive as mothers, and her vision is to support women's growth, healing and connection with their authentic selves. When we're in the messy middle of life and business, there's often a sense of upheaval. It can be tough to keep moving forward, and in this moment we tend to become hyper critical of ourselves. Yara believes self-compassion is key to leading a fulfilled life, and applying it is critical when we fail to meet our own expectations. We talk about the inevitable ebb and flow of life, and how being gentle with ourselves through life's varying phases will help us push through. When we have dreams to pursue, children to raise and businesses to run, a million different things vie for our attention. So how do we make space for the things that bring the most meaning to our lives? We discuss the importance of boundaries, and how truly knowing what our values are will enable us to clarify and set the right ones. What is it that brings you joy? What is it that makes you feel fulfilled? What do you engage in that fills you up and that lights you up? When you get clear on what matters to you most, being able to say no becomes so much easier and leads you to being in true alignment with yourself and your values. We delve into experiencing the ‘big emotions' that comes with parenting, often triggered by the pressure of the ‘shoulds' and external expectations of our society. Yara discusses bigger emotions like anger, and how this can be useful in informing us about what is happening internally. Yara defines the inner child and explains why being in touch with this aspect of ourselves is key in bringing nurture and care when our nervous system is activated. We discuss how our past experiences and family of origin can determine our attachment styles, and Yara gives advice on recognising when our inner child is causing us to react abnormally. There is a season for everything, and that the compassion we show ourselves will hold us when life gets big and we see our businesses grow. I got so much out of this conversation and I hope you feel encouraged to grant yourself the grace and kindness you deserve, balancing life as a thriving parent and boss. Giving away content for free in the context of a podcast can be a bit of a scary idea - and so can putting your ideas out there in such a vulnerable way. However, through the experience of running my own podcast, I've learnt that it has the power to enhance your thought leadership, grow your impact, build a community and of course grow your business. Today is Episode 100 of this podcast and to mark the occasion, I invited Bec Buchanan to join me to celebrate. Bec is a longstanding client of mine, as well as owner of Straight Up Bookkeeping. She is also the host of her own successful podcast, Straight Up Small Business. In this episode, I've put myself in the hot seat and handed over the reins to Bec as host. Bec asks some insightful questions about how I started and have grown my podcast, and we discuss the ins and outs of running a successful podcast.Launching anything new is scary, especially when you're unsure if it will have longevity or even go anywhere. Starting a podcast requires commitment and a whole lot of planning. But over time, I have found the more of my perspective I put out in the world, the the more I understand my own brand. In turn, I have found a flow that reduces the stress of it all and I now recognise my place as a valuable support to my listeners. I see how the content in my podcast complements the work I do in my business, rather than takes away from it. Bec and I discuss how sharing thoughts and ideas in a podcast can not only support clients who already know and love you, but will help potential clients decide if you're the right fit to guide them on their business journey. We speak on having the mindset of serving others, and that by having this goal, we're willing and excited to be able to share our perspective and knowledge with the world. I am so grateful to everyone who has continued to listen to this podcast, and I hope to give back by supporting you to step out bravely and no longer put off your goals. You have so much value to add to other's lives, and the world needs more of what you have to offer. So what are you waiting for? I know how easy it is to look at other businesses and entrepreneurs online who seem to be absolutely nailing it with all of their amazing launches, sales, programs and offers and feel like you're just failing in comparison. It's a very easy rabbit hole to fall into and can lead us to spiral into feelings of inadequacy, confusion and despondency. We can then start to quiet quit and give up on our goals because - how can we ever be as amazing as our competitors? In this episode, I'm discussing hard truths around how comparison, perfectionism and quiet quitting are impacting your business and I'm giving you some very practical tools to prevent you from being in this situation and what to do when you can feel that familiar tug to deep dive into hundreds of reels. It's so important to remember that perfectionism isn't possible. We all want our business to be perfect in every way, just like everyone else's social media posts, but the reality is that perfection is unattainable and you have no idea what is happening behind the scenes. When we strive for perfection, we set ourselves up for failure because we can never live up to our expectations so we just give up. I'm taking you through exactly how to pick yourself up and appreciate the amazing job you are doing every single day and the amount of work you are putting into creating an incredible business. Quiet quitting is something that many business owners do without even realizing it. We set goals for ourselves and our business, but when things get tough, we give up quietly and move on to something else. This can be so detrimental to our business because we're not giving ourselves a chance to succeed and adds to our feelings of inadequacy. So, how can we avoid these pitfalls? Listen in for my own great tools that have worked for me every time I can feel myself starting to fall down the comparison path. Remember, don't compare someone's everything to your something, focus on your own journey, embrace imperfection, hold yourself accountable to your own realistic goals, and find support from others when you need it and you'll build a successful business that fills you with pride, energy and joy. There is so much expectation on business owners and founders to build their businesses a certain way. I'll bet you know what I'm talking about - the set of criteria the internet tells you to check off in order to achieve success. This topic is huge for me, and today's episode was inspired by a multi seven figure business owner who is winding back and taking a permanent sabbatical.Vanessa Lau is an online business owner who achieved one hundred thousand YouTube subscribers and a six figure business within a year. She was ticking all the boxes and from the outside, it looked like she had everything - the greatest speaking engagements, digital products and huge success on social media. However, Vanessa found herself on a hamster wheel that she knew would never get off. Although she had achieved so many goals, she found herself losing her quality of life and her mental wellbeing. So recently, Vanessa announced she was retiring her signature program to step back and reassess her life.I love the courage and vulnerability that Vanessa showed in admitting her truth, and it provokes the questions that we as business owners should be asking ourselves too.Am I actually enjoying the work I do? Have I structured my business with as much ease and simplicity as possible? Am I squeezing time with my loved ones around the limited time left over from my business? If you're regularly overworking and finding that your business is constantly causing you anxiety, I encourage you to ask these questions and get really honest with yourself. Reflect on what you can do to stay in alignment with your life goals while cutting out the noise of external pressures. You are the expert on you, and I encourage you to get really clear on what you are looking to achieve. I hope this episode challenges you to stay on course and build a life and business you truly love. Today we're talking membership sites and how through them, you can build a rich community of dedicated, like-minded people around your business.I am joined by two-time business founder Chris Edwards. Chris identified a gap in the market for expats living in Hong Kong and Singapore and as a result, created the digital platform and community known as Launchpad. With a background in marketing and publishing, Chris shares her experience and all of the valuable lessons learnt along the way while building a successful membership model in her business. Stepping into the business world 15 years ago as a female entrepreneur, Chris found a distinct lack of supportive resources or networks to tap into. Driven by the challenges she faced and her need to give back, Chris endeavoured to create a community of conscious entrepreneurs who strive for better businesses.Whether or not you're interested in introducing a membership site to your business model, I know you'll find so much value in the wisdom Chris has to offer. She shares her advice on where to start when building a business, such as doing deep research, upskilling through online resources and ensuring you find solid support. I absolutely loved hearing the joy that Chris has for her community members as well as her business. My hope is that you glean as much valuable insight from this conversation as I did, and that Chris's story inspires your own pursuit of growing your business community.
