In this episode of Yet Another Value Podcast, host Andrew Walker returns for a solo discussion on Keros Therapeutics (KROS), a biotech firm navigating a dramatic fall from grace. Once buoyed by hopes for its leading drug Cybo (KER-012), KROS is now reeling from halted trials and a steep drop in share price. Andrew lays out the case for why this company, despite setbacks, may still hold considerable value. He explores KROS's licensing deal with Takeda, their significant cash reserves, and questions surrounding its future direction. Calling on shareholder alignment and corporate governance, Andrew challenges listeners to consider whether KROS is veering into zombie biotech territory—or poised for a smart pivot.Stat+ article on zombie biotechs and Sutro: https://www.statnews.com/2025/03/19/sutro-bio-biotech-luvelta/Chapters:[00:00:00] Sponsor and Intro[00:03:00] Recap of Sage Pharmaceuticals as a case study in shareholder value.[00:04:48] Introduction to KROS and its recent setbacks, including Cybo's trial halt.[00:05:05] Defining the “zombie biotech” phenomenon and why it matters.[00:08:21] Misaligned incentives between management and shareholders in troubled biotechs.[00:10:04] Why KROS's partnership with Takeda could be its most valuable asset.[00:13:14] Review of KROS's three main drugs: Cybo, 065, and 050 (licensed to Takeda).[00:14:55] Risk-adjusted value potential of KROS's royalties from Takeda deal.[00:17:01] Mixed data from 065 and skepticism from analysts.[00:18:09] Potential but doubtful value remaining in Cybo post-trial shutdown.[00:18:40] KROS's massive cash balance vs. market cap and implications for shareholder returns.[00:20:05] Breakdown of 2023 overhead and burn rate concerns.[00:21:53] Call for drastic cost cuts and corporate reevaluation.[00:23:36] Analysis of board alignment and concern over lack of urgency.[00:25:44] Why KROS no longer needs a science-heavy board.[00:28:44] Shareholder engagement as a tool to prevent value destruction.[00:31:33] Encouragement for listeners to contact the board and advocate for value-maximizing outcomes.Links:See our legal disclaimer here: https://www.yetanothervalueblog.com/p/legal-and-disclaimer

Are you leaving money on the table? Most SaaS founders are—and don't even realize it. In this episode of SaaS Fuel, Jeff Mains sits down with James D. Wilton, managing partner at Motivate and former senior pricing expert at McKinsey. James shares how to align pricing with value, avoid the biggest monetization mistakes, and build a pricing strategy that actually supports growth. We cover the science and psychology behind pricing, the dangers of freemium gone wrong, why founders underprice out of fear, and how to choose the right value metric for your product. If you've ever struggled with pricing tiers, packaging, or just knowing what to charge—this is the episode that will change everything.Key Takeaways 00:00 - Why most founders don't know what their customers will pay 02:00 - Why pricing is a growth lever, not a math problem 07:00 - Why even smart SaaS companies guess at pricing 12:00 - The psychology of discounting and its lasting effects 15:00 - How perceived value drives pricing power 18:30 - Misconceptions about willingness to pay 22:00 - How to move from gut feel to data-driven pricing 26:00 - Pricing reactions vary wildly—here's why 29:20 - Choosing the right pricing metric for your SaaS 34:00 - Misaligned pricing metrics can kill retention 38:00 - Freemium pitfalls: Free riders vs real conversions 42:30 - How to build a freemium model that actually works 46:00 - How many pricing tiers should you really have? 50:00 - A simple 3-step framework to rethink your pricingTweetable Quotes“If you don't know what your customer is willing to pay, ask—but ask with a skeptical lens.” — James Wilton“Pricing is about perception, not production cost.” — Jeff Mains“Discounts change how customers value your product—even when the discount ends.” — James Wilton“Founders often price based on fear. That's how you end up in the freemium trap.” — Jeff Mains“Pick a value metric that scales with the customer, not just your bottom line.” — James Wilton“The biggest growth lever most SaaS companies ignore? Pricing.” — Jeff MainsSaaS Leadership LessonsPricing is perception – Your value isn't just what you deliver, it's what customers believe they're getting.Freemium can be fatal – If your free tier attracts the wrong audience or discourages usage, it hurts more than it helps.Your best price metric is tied to your customer's success – Not your costs, not your features. It's about their value.Discounting can damage trust – Shaving off dollars may feel good short-term, but it lowers long-term perceived value.Founders should evolve from instinct to insight – Start with your gut, but shift to customer data and behavior fast.Keep pricing simple – Too many tiers confuse buyers and stall conversion. 1. Drama Is Draining Your SoulThe first sign? Drama. If your relationship feels like a rollercoaster of chaos—big fights, silent treatments, explosive makeups—it's a problem. I've noticed this pattern especially with super attractive women. They're used to attention, used to getting their way, and when you don't play along, it can spark jealousy, arguments, or petty power plays. People joke that “prettier girls are crazier,” and honestly, there's some truth to it. Years of special treatment can wire someone to crave control or stir up trouble when things don't align.Set a boundary. Tell her, “If this keeps happening, I'm out.” She'll test you—trust me, she will. When she does, hold your ground. Walk away. Don't be the guy who caves when she calls crying, because that kills any respect she has left. Drama might feel thrilling, but it's a distraction you can't afford.2. Your Wallets Don't MatchNext up: money. Financial compatibility isn't just about goals—it's about where you're at right now and what you both expect. Guys, we've all done it: flexing a little too hard to impress her, dropping cash on dinners, gifts, or trips to seem like the big shot. I've made that mistake, pretending I had more than I did. But here's the fallout: you can't sustain it. She'll figure out you're overspending, and the cracks will show.Every woman's different. Some are independent, with careers or family support, and don't need you to bankroll them. Others expect a guy who can provide a certain lifestyle—and that's their right, just like you've got standards for how she looks or acts. The problem hits when your financial reality doesn't match her expectations. If she's looking for a provider and you're barely scraping by, it's a recipe for resentment. She won't look up to you if she's out-earning you or if you can't keep up with her vibe.Be real with yourself. If you can't afford her world, don't fake it. Focus on stacking your cash instead of chasing someone out of your league. Sit her down, talk it out—be honest about what you can (or can't) offer. If she needs more than you've got, cut ties. It's not about gold-digging; it's about compatibility. Misaligned wallets lead to misery.3. The Bedroom's BrokenLet's talk sex—because it matters. If you're not attracted to her, or she's not into you, that's a dealbreaker. I don't care what anyone says: a relationship without physical spark is a friendship with extra steps. Being with someone you don't want to sleep with—or who doesn't want you—is torture. I've tried to make it work, and it's soul-crushing.If you're not into her, don't drag it out to spare her feelings. Communicate it—gently, sure, but clearly. Figure out your type, what lights you up, and if she's not it, break it off fast. The longer you fake it, the worse it gets—you'll cheat, resent her, or both. If she's not attracted to you, that's trickier. Are you satisfying her? Is she into it? If not, step up your game (check my other videos for tips), but if you've tried and she's still checked out, it's over. Sex isn't everything, but it's damn close. When it's not working, walk away.4. Your Futures Don't FitThe final nail in the coffin? Mismatched futures. You can have killer chemistry, great sex, aligned finances—but if your long-term visions don't sync, it's doomed. She wants kids, you don't. You're tied to Minnesota, she's dreaming of Miami. I've been there: dated someone amazing, only to realize her path wasn't mine. It hit me hard, but I had to admit it—our futures didn't line up, and no amount of love could fix that.

Avoiding accountability creates chaos, misalignment, and inefficiencies that impact every part of your business. If leaders aren't holding each other accountable, you'll see wasted resources, declining morale, and reduced profitability. Let's dive into why accountability matters and how to fix it.Kodak: A Leadership Failure (00:02:03)Kodak invented the first digital camera in the 1970s but failed to act. Leadership avoided tough decisions, fearing disruption to their film business. While they stalled, competitors advanced, and Kodak eventually filed for bankruptcy in 2012—not due to technology, but due to poor accountability and leadership.Lack of Alignment Creates Chaos (00:03:37)Misaligned leadership leads to confusion and inefficiency. When leaders push different priorities without accountability, resources scatter instead of focusing on a common goal, ultimately hurting productivity and team morale.Unspoken Issues Breed Toxicity (00:08:31)Ignoring problems creates resentment and disengagement. If leaders fail to address accountability issues, passive-aggressiveness spreads, morale drops, and trust erodes. Tackle problems early to prevent toxicity.Productivity and Profits Decline (00:13:13)A lack of accountability increases inefficiencies, poor decisions, and wasted resources. When leaders aren't held accountable, disengagement spreads, stalling business growth and profitability. How to Build a Culture of Accountability (00:14:55)Set Clear Expectations – Define responsibilities and metrics.Regular Check-Ins – Keep accountability a priority in meetings.Address Issues Early – Tackle problems before they escalate.Lead by Example – Model accountability to create ownership.Establish Consequences & Rewards – Recognize accountability and correct resistance.Final Thoughts (00:26:55)Avoiding accountability weakens leadership and hurts your business. Aligning your team fosters better communication, stronger morale, and higher profits.Need help implementing accountability? Is magic just a miracle by another name? Jesus taught magic—let's talk about faith, ritual, and resonance!--- Join and support the community: https://www.creationspaths.com/ In this episode, Charlie and Brian, Christopagan Druids, explore the **historical debate on magic vs. miracles**, tracing the origins of the term "magic" in ancient Greece. They discuss how **faith, intention, and ritual work** intersect in both religious and magical practices, challenging the common misconception that magic is merely wishful thinking.A key focus is the **parable of the mustard seed** from Matthew 17, which is often misunderstood. Rather than emphasizing the _size_ of faith, the passage highlights **faith's potential for prodigious growth** when nurtured with spiritual and ritual discipline. Jesus himself practiced what could be considered magic, teaching his disciples the importance of **prayer, fasting, and ritual** in achieving transformation.Charlie and Brian introduce the **Law of Resonance**, contrasting it with the flawed concept of the **Law of Attraction**. Resonance, they argue, is about aligning with specific energies through faith and intentionality—what you put into the universe shapes what you receive. Misaligned or desperate intentions, especially in magic, can backfire, as seen in personal anecdotes about unintended financial consequences. They also delve into **Paul's mystical teachings** in Romans 14, arguing that Paul's approach to faith aligns with magical practice—stating that “whatever is not of faith is sin,” meaning our **belief systems shape our reality and determine spiritual resonance**. Paul, they suggest, was a **practitioner of Merkava mysticism**, a form of Jewish esoteric tradition.Thank you for Liking and Subscribing to this podcastThank you for sharing this episode with your loved ones, friends and community--- Thank you for Tips or Donations: https://ko-fi.com/cedorsett https://patreon.com/cedorsett https://cash.app/$CreationsPathsSubstack: https://www.creationspaths.com/ For all of the things we are doing at The Seraphic Grove go to Creation's Paths https://www.creationspaths.com/ For Educational Resource: https://wisdomscry.com --- A Christopagan Manifesto--- Answer to the Call: A Dream of an Oak Church Guided Meditations Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0J2QAAlD1uaIJvQ3Sr9sIqO Christopagan Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0ISXDQkZBRB7EHrUUJgXlGN The Everything Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0Ln3eGW-tDk2R68PM6c182OCreation's Paths Podcast: http://www.creationspaths.com/podcast Church of the Oak Podcast: http://churchoftheoak.com/Hallowstead Podcast: http://hallowstead.com/Social Connections: BlueSky https://bsky.app/profile/creationspaths.com Threads https://www.threads.net/@creationspaths Instagram https://www.instagram.com/creationspaths/#Christopagan #CreationSpirituality #ChristianWitch #Paganism #Esoteric #Magic #Druidry #Mysticism #Spirituality #Occult #WitchCraft #Wicca #IrishPaganism #CelticPaganism #Magick #Polytheism #Enchantment #FaithAndMagic #LawOfResonance #MiraclesVsMagic #SubtleEnergies #PrayerAndFasting## Chapters:00:00 The Age-Old Debate: Magic vs. Miracles01:19 Faith and Rituals in the Gospels02:14 Introduction to Faith Acts and Resonance03:16 Understanding Faith as a Mustard Seed05:02 The Spectrum of Magic: Wishes, Prayers, and Spells06:24 The Role of Will, Intention, and Faith in Magic06:58 Joseph Campbell and the Evolution of Society10:19 The Law of Resonance Explained16:42 Real-World Examples of Resonance in Action25:26 Concluding Thoughts and Practical Advice Get full access to Creation's Paths at www.creationspaths.com/subscribe

We're all tired. We feel sluggish and unfocused and out of sync with our bodies. We know that circadian rhythms are important, but we aren't exactly sure how they work. Instead, we're bombarded with solutions—blue-light blocking glasses, melatonin, light lamps, complicated eating schedules—without a clear explanation of the problem they're solving or the science behind them. The truth is circadian rhythms are a bigger part of our lives than we ever realized. Their wide-ranging effects can boggle the mind, and researchers are just starting to discover exactly how they function—and how much our modern lives have thrown them out of whack. It's time to give up that late-night TikTok doom scrolling. Science writer Lynne Peeples is here to help us reclaim the rhythms that profoundly affect our health and well-being in her groundbreaking book THE INNER CLOCK: Living in Sync with Our Circadian Rhythms (Riverhead Books; On Sale September 24, 2024) which has already received glowing praise (below) from James Nestor, Daniel Pink, Mary Roach, Dan Fagin, Deborah Blum and more. Misaligned circadian rhythm disrupt sleep, reduce productivity, and raise the risk of serious, life-threatening ailments. Our bodies are full of tiny timepieces synchronized to the sun and subtle signals in our environment, but they're up against modern insults like artificial light, contrived time zones, and late-night meals that wreak havoc on our internal clocks and health. THE INNER CLOCK explores the emerging and fascinating science behind circadian rhythms and its transformative applications. Peeples seeks out the scientists, astronauts, athletes, and patients at the forefront of a growing movement. We learn about experts and enthusiasts experimenting with their circadian clocks, with surprising results. Alongside rigorous reporting, Peeples tests the research as she sleeps in a Cold War–era bunker, chases the midnight sun, spits into test tubes, and wears high-tech light sensors to decipher what makes our internal clocks tick and how we can reset them for the better. She discusses everything from jet lag to aging connections with our circadian rhythms, productivity and athletic performance peaks to connections between circadian rhythms and our gut microbiome and even Alzheimer's disease.

If someone said a global health and development programme was sustainable, participatory, and holistic, you'd have to guess that they were saying something positive. But according to today's guest Karen Levy — deworming pioneer and veteran of Innovations for Poverty Action, Evidence Action, and Y Combinator — each of those three concepts has become so fashionable that they're at risk of being seriously overrated and applied where they don't belong.Rebroadcast: this episode was originally released in March 2022.Links to learn more, highlights, and full transcript.Such concepts might even cause harm — trying to make a project embody all three is as likely to ruin it as help it flourish.First, what do people mean by 'sustainability'? Usually they mean something like the programme will eventually be able to continue without needing further financial support from the donor. But how is that possible? Governments, nonprofits, and aid agencies aim to provide health services, education, infrastructure, financial services, and so on — and all of these require ongoing funding to pay for materials and staff to keep them running.Given that someone needs to keep paying, Karen tells us that in practice, 'sustainability' is usually a euphemism for the programme at some point being passed on to someone else to fund — usually the national government. And while that can be fine, the national government of Kenya only spends $400 per person to provide each and every government service — just 2% of what the US spends on each resident. Incredibly tight budgets like that are typical of low-income countries.'Participatory' also sounds nice, and inasmuch as it means leaders are accountable to the people they're trying to help, it probably is. But Karen tells us that in the field, ‘participatory' usually means that recipients are expected to be involved in planning and delivering services themselves. While that might be suitable in some situations, it's hardly something people in rich countries always want for themselves. Ideally we want government healthcare and education to be high quality without us having to attend meetings to keep it on track — and people in poor countries have as many or more pressures on their time. While accountability is desirable, an expectation of participation can be as much a burden as a blessing. Finally, making a programme 'holistic' could be smart, but as Karen lays out, it also has some major downsides. For one, it means you're doing lots of things at once, which makes it hard to tell which parts of the project are making the biggest difference relative to their cost. For another, when you have a lot of goals at once, it's hard to tell whether you're making progress, or really put your mind to focusing on making one thing go extremely well. And finally, holistic programmes can be impractically expensive — Karen tells the story of a wonderful 'holistic school health' programme that, if continued, was going to cost 3.5 times the entire school's budget. In this in-depth conversation, originally released in March 2022, Karen Levy and host Rob Wiblin chat about the above, as well as:Why it pays to figure out how you'll interpret the results of an experiment ahead of timeThe trouble with misaligned incentives within the development industryProjects that don't deliver value for money and should be scaled downHow Karen accidentally became a leading figure in the push to deworm tens of millions of schoolchildrenLogistical challenges in reaching huge numbers of people with essential servicesLessons from Karen's many-decades careerAnd much moreChapters:Cold open (00:00:00)Rob's intro (00:01:33)The interview begins (00:02:21)Funding for effective altruist–mentality development projects (00:04:59)Pre-policy plans (00:08:36)‘Sustainability', and other myths in typical international development practice (00:21:37)‘Participatoriness' (00:36:20)‘Holistic approaches' (00:40:20)How the development industry sees evidence-based development (00:51:31)Initiatives in Africa that should be significantly curtailed (00:56:30)Misaligned incentives within the development industry (01:05:46)Deworming: the early days (01:21:09)The problem of deworming (01:34:27)Deworm the World (01:45:43)Where the majority of the work was happening (01:55:38)Logistical issues (02:20:41)The importance of a theory of change (02:31:46)Ways that things have changed since 2006 (02:36:07)Academic work vs policy work (02:38:33)Fit for Purpose (02:43:40)Living in Kenya (03:00:32)Underrated life advice (03:05:29)Rob's outro (03:09:18)Producer: Keiran HarrisAudio mastering: Ben Cordell and Ryan KesslerTranscriptions: Katy Moore

January 17, 2025 Hello and Happy Day! This is Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, Novelist and Story Coach, welcoming you to another episode of Winning with the Word. Today is Friday, January 17, 2025, and this is episode #1 in Series 2025. This episode is titled "The Truth about Healing—Part 2."Wherever we turn, people are sick. And, it seems, getting sicker. Perhaps you are one of them.If so, you need to listen to this podcast or read this blog post to the very end. It is the second in a series on healing I started last year. So, what's the deal with sickness? Where does it come from? Why does it come? And are we doomed just to live with it?Let's start with the first question: What's the deal with sickness? The deal is that it's a raw deal. A bad deal. Not a deal anyone wants to engage in. So why is there sickness? There's sickness because there's sin. Sickness has its roots in sin. This doesn't necessarily mean that the sick person has personally sinned. It means that when sin entered the world through the rebellion and fall of Adam and Eve, sickness was not far behind. Sickness is the offspring of sin, as is every evil thing in the world today. If Adam and Eve had not sinned, there would be no sickness. In fact, when God created them and placed them in the Garden of Eden, they were perfectly healthy in spirit, soul, and body. They were in perfect alignment with God.That's what health is, really. Alignment with God. When sin came into the world, this alignment was not only skewed; it was completely shattered. As descendants of Adam and Eve, we now share in that awful misalignment. You may ask why? Because we inherited Adam's sin nature. When Adam sinned, his nature became corrupted. Misaligned. Out of sync with God. So when Adam and Eve had children, that's all they could pass on to future generations. A sin nature. Adam and Eve's perfect, healthful nature had been destroyed by disobedience to God. All that was now left was a corrupted nature. So here we are today, still experiencing the consequences of Adam and Eve's sin. And sickness is one of those consequences. But lest you fall into despair, dear friend, let me now give you the good news. The good news is that Jesus Christ, through His death and resurrection, overcame the consequences of Adam's sin and restored to mankind Adam's original, uncorrupted nature. Is that something to shout about, or what? But, there's a catch. The only way man can now experience Adam's original, uncorrupted nature is by being born again. In other words, by accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. When you are born again, you instantly receive the nature of Christ which is incorruptible. The nature of Christ is also perfectly healthy. This new nature comes to reside on the inside of you and to make you what the Bible calls "a new creation." The born again person, therefore, has a new nature on the inside of him. The nature of Christ. And Christ is not sick!"Well, then, Dr. MaryAnn, "you may be asking, "why are so many Christians sick?" Fair question! The reason is found in the Bible in Hosea 4: 6 where God says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." In other words, Christians are sick because they don't know they're supposed to be well! Now before you turn off this podcast or stop reading this blog post, do yourself a favor and get all the facts. Because God is God, He cannot lie. So when He says something in His Word, He means it, right? Okay. Let's look at some of the things God has said in the Bible about healing:___Exodus 15: 26 NIV - "I am the LORD, who heals you."___ Jeremiah 30: 17 NASB - "For I will restore you to health And I will heal you of your wounds,' declares the LORD."___Psalm 41: 3 - "The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness, You restore him to health.___Matthew 12: 15 NASB - "Many followed Him, and He healed them all . . . ."___Matthew 8: 17 NLT - "“He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.”I could go on and on with verses proving that God hate...

In this episode, we explore a game-changing principle for personal growth and effective leadership: focus. Drawing from my own journey, I share how overcoming fear and embracing clarity helped me step into my calling as a speaker, trainer, and coach. We'll discuss how misplaced focus—like “chasing two rabbits”—can hinder progress, and reveal the keys to honing your priorities and concentration. Key Takeaways The Power of Focus Focus is the foundation of personal and professional success. Misaligned focus, like juggling too many tasks, can leave you stuck or unproductive. Lessons from a Lion Trainer Lion trainers use a stool to divide the lion's attention, rendering it powerless. Similarly, trying to focus on too many things at once can paralyze your progress. Two Keys to Focus from John Maxwell Priorities: Knowing what to do but failing to act leads to stagnation. Concentration: Excellence without clear goals leads to unproductive efforts. Practical Tips for Laser-Focused Leadership Leverage Strengths: Invest your energy in what you do best to maximize productivity. Embrace Change: Growth happens when you explore new opportunities aligned with your strengths. Delegate Weaknesses: Free yourself to excel by delegating tasks outside your expertise to capable team members. Reflection Question Have you ever felt paralyzed by too many choices or tasks? How can you narrow your focus to regain clarity and momentum? Final Thoughts Success begins with a commitment to prioritize and concentrate on what matters most. Work on yourself, surround yourself with complementary strengths, and watch your potential soar. Remember, you are your greatest asset—focus wisely. BONUS: A Coaching Masterclass - How Our Language Affects Our Leadership Style, And The Culture We Create, With Michelle Pauk and Victor Pena In this BONUS episode, Victor Pena and Michelle Pauk dive deep into the power of language in shaping our work as leaders, Agile Coaches, and Scrum Masters. Together, we explore how the words we use influence relationships, decisions, and the success of Agile practices. From navigating the ambiguity of language to fostering effective communication, this episode provides actionable insights to help you thrive in a constantly changing workplace. Language as a Culture Carrier “Language is how we carry culture, but without clarity, it can lead to misalignment and conflict.” Victor and Michelle discuss how language reflects and shapes workplace culture. Misaligned terminology—like “servant leader”—can create tension between teams and executives. They highlight the importance of achieving shared understanding and the role of language in fostering trust and collaboration. “Start by asking what others mean by key words—it's the first step toward alignment.” Feedforward vs. Feedback “Feedback gets us stuck in the past, while feedforward builds a path to a better future.” Drawing inspiration from Marshall Goldsmith, we discuss how focusing on future-oriented improvement (feedforward) avoids the blame game and builds positive momentum. As Agile practitioners, shifting from root cause analysis to solution-focused coaching allows teams to move forward effectively. “Ask yourself, what can we do better tomorrow instead of dwelling on what went wrong yesterday?” The Ambiguity of Language in Collaboration “Words mean different things to different people—be curious about how others see the world.” Victor and Michelle unpack how language ambiguity impacts communication and decision-making. They emphasize the need to explore the assumptions behind others' words and how Agile principles like #NoEstimates challenge traditional views on planning and work management. “When you encounter a term that seems obvious, ask: What does this mean to you?” Semiotics and the Language of Work “Symbols are the silent drivers of collaboration.” Semiotics, the study of symbols, plays a vital role in Agile practices like visual management. From story cards to team boards, symbols help teams communicate and navigate their work. The duo discusses how the language of Agile evolves through symbols and how to introduce these effectively in organizations. “Create visual symbols that align with your team's values—they'll anchor your collaboration.” Beyond the “Agile is Dead” Debate, Raising The Bar Of Our Shared Conversation “What's trying to come forward in the evolution of Agile?” While some criticize Agile as outdated, Victor and Michelle argue that its core principles—delivering value faster and improving quality—remain timeless. They explore how Agile can evolve to meet current challenges while retaining its essence. “Instead of asking if Agile is dead, ask what the next evolution looks like.” About Victor Pena and Michelle Pauk Victor Pena is an Agile Coach dedicated to helping organizations achieve business agility. In this episode of the Rocket Chiropractic Podcast, host Jerry Kennedy discusses the challenges of maintaining a work-life balance as a chiropractor. He explores the extremes of hustle culture versus a carefree lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of finding a middle ground. Jerry shares insights on prioritizing family and health over business success, and the necessity of structure and discipline in both work and home life. He encourages listeners to be present with their families and to understand that saying yes to one commitment often means saying no to another. The conversation culminates in practical tips for achieving a balanced life while managing a chiropractic practice. Key Takeaways: 1. The Extremes of Work-Life Balance: On one end, you have the "hustle culture" that glorifies grinding 24/7 to achieve success. On the other, you have the carefree "YOLO mentality" that prioritizes living in the moment over building anything substantial. Both extremes come with consequences, especially for chiropractors with families. 2. The Real Priorities in Life: Visualize your life as a target. The bullseye is reserved for the most important people—your spouse, kids, and closest family members. Work is essential but does not belong at the center of your target. Misaligned priorities can lead to regrets and damaged relationships. 3. The Importance of Saying No: When you say yes to one thing, you're saying no to something else. Chiropractors must learn to prioritize structure, discipline, and efficiency in their work so they can be fully present at home. 4. Tips for Work-Life Balance: At Work: Create structure and discipline in your practice. Be efficient and prioritize foundational tasks that truly matter. Avoid wasted time and inefficiency—it directly affects your time with family. At Home: Be fully present when you're home. Don't bring work problems into family time. Understand that the time you spend at home is irreplaceable. Communicate with your spouse and set expectations for temporary sacrifices while building your practice. 5. Timing is Everything: If you're single and building a practice, take advantage of the flexibility. If you have a family, use them as your motivation to work smarter, not just harder. Remember: The hustle phase is temporary. Your goal is to provide for your family without sacrificing your relationships. Final Thoughts: You won't look back on your life and wish you'd worked more or earned a little extra money. What truly matters are the relationships you build and the moments you cherish with your family. Keep your priorities straight, work efficiently, and when you're home—be home. Today I'll teach you how to know if the goals you're chasing are the right ones for you
The world's moving fast, sometimes too fast. Whether it's AI taking over ad campaigns, fake LinkedIn profiles popping up, or the healthcare system extracting more than it gives, the threads connecting our modern chaos are all too clear. Misaligned incentives and unchecked technologies are reshaping industries, culture, and even how we trust each other. Progress can be exciting, but it's also raising some tough questions: Are we losing our humanity in the race to optimize everything? Take Coca-Cola, the apex predator of branding. This holiday season, they swapped their usual creative mastery for AI-generated ads, and people noticed. The results weren't just underwhelming; they were unsettling. It's a perfect example of what happens when we try to replicate the human touch with machines that aren't there yet. But this isn't just about Coke. It's about a broader trend of trading quality for convenience and innovation for cost-cutting—and the ripple effects it has on culture, trust, and livelihoods. This week, we're unpacking the tension between innovation and integrity, exploring how businesses, governments, and individuals can find a better balance. From the rise of fake AI personas to headlights designed to cheat brightness tests, we'll dig into what these examples say about the systems we rely on and what happens when those systems fail us. It's a wild ride, but one thing's for sure: the way forward has to be more thoughtful than the path that got us here.

Season after season, the “Building Better Developers” podcast inspires tech enthusiasts to refine their craft by fostering productive habits. In a recent episode, hosts Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche emphasized coding standards—a crucial but often overlooked pillar in software development. Here's a deep dive into their insights on how personal and team-wide coding standards can elevate your development game. Why Coding Standards Matter At its core, coding standards provide consistency and clarity. Whether you're an independent developer or part of a large team, they serve as a guideline for writing clean, maintainable, and professional code. Rob pointed out that following standards is not about adhering to rigid rules but about making life easier—for yourself and your team. Michael added a critical perspective: coding standards often extend beyond aesthetics. In industries like healthcare and finance, compliance with external standards like HIPAA or SOC is mandatory. Similarly, developers working on mobile apps must align with platform-specific requirements, such as those of the Apple App Store, to ensure their software is accepted and functions as intended. Personalizing Coding Standards The hosts encouraged listeners to start with personal coding standards before expanding to team-wide practices. Rob explained that simple habits, such as consistent indentation, intuitive variable naming, and clear function structuring, can dramatically improve readability and maintainability. He also highlighted tools like linters and formatters, which can automate the enforcement of these standards. Michael expanded on this idea, emphasizing the concept of “clean code.” By writing self-documenting code—where functions, variables, and structures clearly convey their purpose—developers can minimize reliance on inline comments. However, he noted the importance of documenting elusive bugs or unique solutions directly in the codebase to prevent future troubleshooting headaches. Leveraging Tools for Consistent Coding Standards The episode underscored the importance of adopting tools like linters, such as SonarLint or integrated features in IDEs like Visual Studio Code. These tools can help enforce standards automatically, reducing the likelihood of human error. The hosts recommended configuring these tools for “format on save,” ensuring consistent styling across a team's codebase. Rob highlighted the productivity benefits of standardization, especially during code reviews and merges. Misaligned formats can create confusion, leading to unnecessary rework. By agreeing on a common setup and sharing IDE configurations, teams can streamline their development process and focus on meaningful changes. The Broader Impact of Standards Beyond the practicalities, coding standards contribute to a sense of professionalism and ownership. Rob likened them to a team's “stamp,” reflecting their identity and ethos. For individual developers, adhering to consistent standards fosters discipline, an essential trait for long-term growth. Michael introduced a compelling argument for balancing internal and external requirements. While personal and team standards are foundational, developers must also be mindful of external constraints, such as compliance and platform guidelines. This dual focus ensures that software not only functions well but also meets legal and industry expectations. Challenges and Takeaways: Refining Your Coding Standards The hosts concluded with a weekly challenge: dedicate 5–10 minutes daily to reviewing and refining your code according to your standards. This practice serves as a litmus test to assess whether you're following your own rules. For teams without established standards, they recommended adopting widely respected guidelines, like Google's or PEP 8 for Python, as a starting point. Bonus tips included leveraging documentation exports and linter configurations to share consistent settings across teams. By doing so, developers can create an environment where everyone writes code that feels cohesive and professional. Final Thoughts Coding standards might not be the flashiest aspect of development, but they are undeniably impactful. By committing to personal and team-wide practices, you can improve not just your code but also your efficiency, collaboration, and career prospects. Whether you're refining your Pomodoro technique or revisiting old projects, take a moment to reflect on your coding habits and how they align with your standards. As Rob and Michael emphasized, “Building Better Developers” is about incremental progress. Coding standards are one small step toward becoming a more disciplined and effective developer. Start today, and see the difference it makes in your workflow and your team's success. Welcome Western Astrology is Misaligned as We Shift into the Ages." It's been a while since I last published an episode, as I've been focusing on a private podcast to discuss various topics. Today is a special day—my birthday—and I felt compelled to share some insights at this very moment, echoing the energetics of when I was born. Recently, I've received messages from listeners asking about the news circulating that Pluto is leaving Capricorn and moving into Aquarius. This is significant because Pluto won't return to Capricorn as it has in the past three years. These discussions have prompted me to address these issues from a Skystrology perspective.

Live from the SmartRecruiters booth, Tracey Parsons, the CEO of Flockity, shared insights at the HR Tech conference in Las Vegas, drawing from her extensive 20-year background in recruitment marketing and employer branding. She highlighted the sluggish pace of change within the industry, attributing it to stakeholder resistance and a pervasive lack of genuine listening, which deteriorates candidate experiences. This oversight often stems from an employer's sense of superiority, exemplified by Amazon's challenged reputation due to its treatment of warehouse workers. Parsons noted the common occurrence of candidates being ghosted post-interview, a reflection of broader systemic failures in recruitment where candidate sentiment remains low and transparency around compensation is stifled. The friction in job application processes is often counterproductive, deterring potential talent, while companies like Amazon, despite recognizing the costs of high attrition, struggle with implementing meaningful change. Misaligned branding further complicates expectations for both candidates and employees. However, technology offers a beacon of hope by potentially streamlining interactions and enhancing communication. Parsons criticized the inefficiencies in the current job distribution model, marked by low trust in job postings, and introduced Flockity's innovative approach using influencer marketing to foster trust and improve the candidate experience. She pointed out the skewed dynamics where paid job promotions might not reflect genuine company endorsement, and content tends to emphasize skills over culture. Creators often avoid brand mentions to dodge backlash.
