There's nothing like crossing over into the second half of the year to trigger you to take action on those big projects in your business. I am supporting a number of women to bring some massive goals to life this quarter and a common conundrum is “How am I going to fit this in among all the other competing priorities in my life?” In a perfect world, everything would slot in beautifully but in reality, life needs some serious adjustment in order to give these projects the required energy and focus to achieve the outcomes you want. I call these Seasons of Sacrifice. This is a break from normal programming - it doesn't last forever but there is always a reason for the season. Sometimes we consciously choose the season, other times the season is forced upon us. Whatever the reason, I have some tips to get you through it and out the other side and I'm sharing them with you in this episode. My guest on this episode is Vanessa Bennett, CEO and co-founder of Next Evolution Performance - an organisation that uses neuroscience to help driven business leaders and teams to optimise productivity, energy and profitability without the burnout. Like Vanessa and her team, I do not believe that success needs to equal burn out. Sadly, I see many broken women limp into my world who have nothing left in the tank after doing everything themselves. Vanessa works with leaders of businesses of all shapes and sizes every day and she is sharing the goods with us in our chat. Not only does she have the intel and the insights, she has solutions for us to better manage our energy to avoid burnout. We talk about just how much cognitive energy we have per day (and spoiler alert - it's not anywhere near as much as you think). Vanessa shares how we can manage and, most importantly, optimise our energy and how crucial automation, delegation and simplification are for this. You may be feeling like things are a little “quiet” on the business front right now. Instead of hitting the panic button, take action instead. Considered action. But it's the one action that many business owners try to avoid… Business development, lead generation, new business activity - notice how we try to call it anything but “sales” activity? My guest in this episode has redefined what it means to “do sales”. Abbie White's superpower is marrying sales and marketing efforts in order to deliver out of this world results for her clients. Shivani Gupta has had a most extraordinary career as an entrepreneur. She has owned, scaled and exited multi million dollar businesses, presented to over a quarter of a million people all around the world and has authored eight books. When Shivani and I first met, she was in the process of selling her business and facing an uncertain future. This led to her decision to take a six-month sabbatical and in this episode of Your Business Boost, Shavni talks about what came up for her during this time. She grappled with questions about her identity and purpose outside of her professional and personal roles. Who was she if she wasn't a business owner? She shares very openly about how challenging she found it to “let go” and her struggle to find joy in the absence of familiar identities. I LOVE a plan. Sitting down and formulating the pathway to achieve mine or my client's dreams is the stuff I live for. And I LOVE working with women who love planning as much as I do. One of those women is the episode's guest, Melissa Marsden. Mel is the Founder of workplace strategy and interior design studio, COMUNiTI. She has spent over 20 years guiding organisations to leverage their physical environments to elevate employee experience, empower high performing teams and unleash productivity. Her design and business brilliance have been recognised by the Australian Institute of Management, Design Institute of Australia and Telstra Business Women's Awards among many others. She is also the host of the Work Life by Design podcast which I have been a special guest interviewing her about her recently published book, The Next Workplace. She sounds like a rock star right? She is! But even rock stars get thrown curve balls and that is what Mel is sharing with us in this episode. Because about 18 months ago - behind the very polished, gorgeous looking business and woman, life was most definitely not going according to her well-thought out plan. Business was exploding, her team was imploding, there was a surprise pregnancy, looming book and client work deadlines coming in one after the other. I have been privileged to have worked with Mel before, during and after this period and I have marvelled at her grace and resilience through all of these plot twists. In our chat, Mel shares her experience of what it's really like to build a business, write a book AND have a baby all at the same time. I am so thankful that Mel agreed to have this conversation because I know that right now, a lot of people's businesses and lives may not be going according to plan. Trigger Warning: This episode contains references to themes of depression and anxiety. As business owners, it's easy to fall into a trap of working in a bit of a bubble. There is a world full of amazing people who think, learn and behave in diverse ways and it's important to expand our knowledge and exposure so that we can be even better service providers, and humans. As a supporter of neurodiverse women in my business, I am learning more every day about the nuances of assisting women who work, think and process information completely differently to me. Which is why I asked today's guest, Sarah Spence, to join me for a chat. Sarah has grown her content marketing business from a solopreneur to an agency with a team of 20 in just 2 years. During this time of amazing growth, Sarah was diagnosed with ADHD. In our chat, Sarah shares openly about her experience of ADHD and how it's impacted her as a business founder. Where are you making things harder than they need to be? Are you one of the (many) people who thinks if something feels too easy then there must be something wrong? Having seen the inner workings of 100s of businesses, I could fill a book with examples of overcomplicated business ideas that went horribly wrong. Ideas that when put in practice made life way more complicated than it needed to be. But I could fill another BIGGER book of simple ideas that went right. As small business owners, we don't always have big budgets for marketing. With social media organic reach dwindling and the cost of digital ads increasing, we need to consider other tactics to get noticed by new clients and stay top of mind with our existing ones. Becoming our own publicist and getting free media exposure is a great way to boost your business and it won't cost you a cent. The value of great press can be worth thousands in terms of business opportunities so it is well worth the effort. But how do we do it? What's the magic formula? My guest in this episode is Liz Nable, a former TV journalist turned entrepreneur. Like so many business owners, Liz had no formal business training when we started out. What she did have was a ton of media skills which she used to turn little-known brand fitness brand, Xtend Barre, into a household name here in Australia. Liz now teaches other business owners how to be their own publicist - to seek, get and leverage media exposure to drive growth in their business and she is sharing her secrets with us today. She dispels the myth that getting media coverage is illusive or exclusive to people with a high-profile. She removes all the smoke and mirrors to show us what action we can take to boost our business. Join Liz's Media Masters Academy here Follow Liz on Insta or go to her website Loved this episode? As business owners we can have the tendency to go looking for solutions to our “problems” in all the wrong places. There is a lot of noise out there about what we should and shouldn't be doing - it can be really hard to know our own minds. But what if we had the tools to tap into and trust our own inner knowing? I've spoken openly about my depletion at the end of last year and I have made a vow to take better care of myself this year. I know I'm not the only one who ended the year with an empty tank so perhaps you are on a similar mission? We can start the year with good intentions but once real life kicks in either later this month, those intentions can fall away. How can we be better at prioritising our health and well-being this year? My guest today, Dr Kellie Rose, is here to help. Dr Kellie runs a thriving executive health coaching business, where she empowers, inspires and supports women in business to perform, lead and succeed through the science of wellbeing. It was Kellie's personal experience of debilitating burnout several years ago that led her on a mission to prevent other women from experiencing burnout like she did. Dr Kellie is a wealth of information and she has some really easily implementable tips for you. So if you finished up 2022 feeling pretty ordinary, you are going to get so much from my chat with Dr Kellie. When my marriage ended 5 years ago, I actively sought out other women who had been through a similar experience. I found comfort in their stories and soaked up their learnings to give me hope that there was in fact Life After Divorce. One of those women was Cathrine Mahoney and I am thrilled to have her as my guest in this episode. Cathrine is a former publicist and author of the most hilarious book ‘Currently Between Husbands'. As a self-confessed over-sharer, this book is a warts-and-all look at her whole life – from her early crushes growing up in Wales, to her years working with some of the world's biggest stars at Sony Music, the end of her marriage to one of the country's highest profile sports stars to navigating life and love as a ‘solo' mum, and everything in between. It's like Bridget Jones' Divorce Diary and is proof that there is life, love and plenty of laughter after divorce. So if you or anyone you care about is going through a tough time at the moment, you will find great hope and lots of laughs in my chat with Cathrine Mahoney. Lise Carlaw and Sarah Wills (aka 'Those Two Girls') are the girlfriends we wish we had in our gang. These besties are hugely successful media personalities, hosting hit local and national radio shows for years as well as being in-demand speakers & MCs. When they turned 40, they launched the other must-listen-on-a-Monday podcast called Forty where they celebrate the life lessons and stories of popular and everyday women in their forties. In 2022 they published their first book Forty Favours the Brave and it is hands down one of my books of the year - possibly ever. The book follows the same theme as the podcast - the girls and other women from all walks of life, share insightful tales about entering their forties and beyond: things they wish they'd known, relationship changes, heartbreaks survived, confidence gained and the joy of life in its second act. It was such a treat to sit down and talk to the girls about the book, their friendship and life in their 40s. They are generous with all that they share and utterly hilarious so strap yourself in for my chat with Lise and Sarah. The biggest lesson that every business owner learned when Covid hit back in March 2020 was that you can not rely on one source of revenue. Putting all your eggs in one basket is a risky strategy for business growth. In this episode, I take you through 10 different ways you could consider delivering your services to make them more accessible and appealing to current and potential clients. This is not a shopping list of all the things that you need to be doing to have a successful business. This is not the Fastrack to your First Million. In fact, some of these revenue streams may cost you money in the short term. But they are going to have a positive impact on your business in other ways. I want to get you thinking - before you start your planning for next year- what you could do, not what you should do in order to boost your business. Loved this episode? When you hear the word menopause, you may think it's something that happens when you become an “old lady”. I didn't realise until it was way too late that menopause is just a date. It's perimenopause which can last up to 10 years before you go through menopause that has the wildest impact on us as women and it's something that rarely been talked about until now. As a typical listener of this podcast, statistically you may already be in perimenopause (or not too far off). There is no avoiding the impact it will have on your health, your relationships, your ability to run your business, your confidence. It's monumental. This month is Menopause Month, I thought it would be perfect timing to have a chat with proud Peri-warrior Shelly Horton on to have a chat. Shelly is a journalist, TV presenter, keynote speaker, MC, she runs her own business - ShellShocked Media. Shelly and I have a really open, honest discussion about the impact of perimenopause on her life and her ability to build her business, what prompted her to start sharing her experience and what has happened as a result of her sharing. We also talk about what action needs to be taken in our workplaces and Shelly and her bestie Dr Ginni Mansberg have created Don't Sweat It, an online program about managing and supporting perimenopause and menopause in the workplace. You can see from the episode duration that this is a long one but it is incredibly valuable as every woman will go through this. **Trigger warning: miscarriage, divorce, depression and suicidal thoughts. ** *Neither Shelly or Michelle are medical professionals. I have supported many talented service providers over the last 6 years and a common struggle among most of these women is productising their expertise. It's one thing to deliver their brilliance in a 1:1 way but it's something else developing their expert framework and building a product offering off the back of it. It's not for everyone but it is an ideal way of positioning yourself as an industry expert or thought leader. Today I am going to introduce you to one of my clients who has done just that while we have worked together. Sharon Darmody is an organisational consultant and mediator, specialising in Workplace Health and Wellbeing. With more than 25 years experience, Sharon has seen what has worked and what hasn't in our workplaces. Sharon is using her voice to offer a new work order - one that focuses on employee wellbeing. Right now, work is not working so Sharon created her MAGIC framework to empower teams and individuals to create a roadmap out of this broken way of working and make work work again. Sharon is a mum, wife and owner of a busy, thriving business and the most perfect woman to have as a client because she does the work. She is an information gatherer but she doesn't just get that information - she takes action. She came to me with a goal that she had already committed to - to publish a book in 2023 - and that is exactly what is happening. I have been very privileged to support Sharon and I really enjoyed our chat today where she not only shares her journey to creating her framework, building her personal brand and writing her book but she also gives us important insights into how we can thrive in our own workplaces. Every year I set goals for myself and my business and one of my goals for 2022 was to secure my own office space. A space that was reflective of me and my business and the service that I provide to my clients. In May, I achieved that goal and moved into my very own office. In this episode, I share the story behind why I felt it was so important for me to do this and the surprising (and not so surprising) impact it has had on my business. I talk about what it felt like to take the plunge and make this investment in my business, what it has done for my productivity and how it has made me feel about myself and the way I deliver my service to my clients. When you hear the words “strong visual brand”, many people think of a gorgeous Instagram grid. But it's so much more than that. It depicts your mission and values visually and is so important in attracting the right customers for your business. You can have the most incredible service or product but it can be compromised by a sub-par visual brand. My guest in this episode is Sandra Chau - a stylist and creative director who connects brands to their customers by elevating their imagery in new and exciting ways. Known and respected for her minimalist design aesthetic, Sandra takes a thoughtful and intentional approach to design. She believes that defined visual branding should awaken the very heart of your mission, value, and legacy as a brand, and is passionate about teaching and sharing this. In our chat, Sandra shares great tips on standing out, keeping things simple and some absolute gold around preparing for photo shoots. My guest is someone who has stepped out from behind big brands to creating a brand of her own. Natalie Coulson is a content marketer with a passion for personal branding. She helps small business owners promote themselves more confidently. Starting out working for big brands, Natalie had to get used to being the brand and admits that this is not always easy. But as someone who has travelled this path personally - she knows exactly what it feels like, what works and what doesn't so she is able to share this with her clients and she is sharing her insights with us today. She talks about the importance of sharing our lived experiences and how that sets us apart, and really standing for something and not "being beige". Nat learnt the hard way that people pleasing and burning the candle at both ends was not the ticket to success - it led to burn out for her and she speaks very openly about how she manages your mental health alongside her role as a business owner, parent and partner.
