Leeds electro boss Barry Duke AKA Sputnik is back for his second bite at the cherry for Avenue Red, deploying 100 minutes of military grade electro dancefloor slammers in a high-pressure, intensely attacking set. No prisoners. "It's been over 3 years since my last Avenue Red mix, so I thought I'd record another one for Alec. Like my previous mix, this one is all electro. I predominately mix vinyl (and still buy it) but there's tons of great tracks that are digital only so every now and again I record a Traktor Scratch mix using control vinyl. There's a selection of old stuff like The Advent and Aux 88 mixed in with newer electro from the likes of N-TER, TFHats and the late great w1b0. I hope you enjoy the ride." ⚠️ Gain access to our monthly bonus show, Afterparty, by becoming a supporter at https://patreon.com/passionatedj In today's episode, we talk about all the recent news in the DJ software space... including the latest release of Traktor Pro 3! The new Traktor brings several new features to the table, including the new "Mixer FX" which are one-knob effects similar to the Pioneer "Color FX" system. There's also a redesigned UI, improved time-stretching algorithms, and included DVS (timecode) support without the need for a separate "Traktor Scratch" license. We also talk about SoundCloud, and it's coming integration with several pieces of DJ software including Traktor, Virtual DJ, and Serato. Serato is also getting access to music service Tidal. We also talk about a new Mixed in Key release, the issues with upgrading to Mac OS Mojave, and the story of how Proton is bringing DJ mixes to Spotify. We wrap the episode with an edited-down version of David's Traktor "unboxing" video, where he tests it for the first time and records his results. ⚠️ Get Passionate DJ Merch: https://passionatedj.com/merch

Today, David talks about happenings in the DJ industry, and the latest hardware to come out during the summer so far. We kept this one brief, as we didn't want to drag out the news stories out too much. But there's a lot going on, and you should know about it! Here are some of the news stories we talk about in Episode 147: Hardware & Software Updates Xone:96 Announced Allen & Heath has announced its first flagship mixer in over a decade. A modern evolution of the iconic Xone:92, the silver-faced kit features the analog architecture that made its predecessor popular. However, it adds some great modern features, such as a dual sound-card and onboard Traktor Scratch support. It's also a great mixer for multiple-DJ sets (due to its dual-cueing setup), or any setups that require complex routing. Pioneer DDJ-SX3 Launched This third iteration of the original DDJ-SX follows the trend of dual-USB, while also adding another mic input, Color FX made popular on other Pioneer gear, and improved jog wheel latency. It's interesting to see that Pioneer is still creating hardware dedicated for use with Serato, where they've spent much more time lately developing Rekordbox-centric controllers. The SX3 is advertised at about $1000 and is available now. Release of Virtual DJ 2018 With a heavy emphasis on video and visuals, the new Virtual DJ is sure to be a hit amongst its huge fanbase. The software includes built-in support for streaming to all the important platforms, including the ability to overlay waveforms, track info, logos, etc. Check out all the new features of Virtual DJ here. Denon to add Traktor Collection support According to some teaser pics on social media, and statements made both by Denon DJ and Native Instruments, it seems likely that we'll soon be able to import Traktor libraries into Engine Prime (much like you can currently do with Serato). Theoretically, you should be able to take your playlists, beat grids, cue points, etc. and play them on Denon Prime players from a USB key (instead of using a laptop). This may be the closest thing we've seen to a "standalone" Traktor experience. FL Studio Finally Launches for Mac Image-Line's latest version of its DAW, FL Studio 20, comes with native Mac support for the first time in two decades. Apparently, the reason in the long delay for porting the software to Mac had to do with the programming language used to write it (Delphi)... which is much better suited to writing software for Windows. FL Studio 20 comes with loads of other updates, including support for time signatures, freezing for clips (to save CPU - finally!!), and the ability to have multiple arrangements so users can work with different versions of the same project. Has the Electronic Music Industry "Peaked"? According to the recent IMS (International Music Summit) Report, the overall value of the electronic music industry has fallen 2% to $7.3 billion. However, there may be an explanation: the fact that many "EDM" songs are actually being classified as Pop. The full 29-page IMS Report is available in PDF format, here. Girl (A documentary on Female DJs) Released From the website, GirlTheMovie.com: What started as a lark became an obsession after meeting the notorious DJ Sandra Collins. Kandeyce Jorden's exploration of a blossoming subculture of the electronic music scene slams her face to face with a connection that can only be found by getting completely lost. Detroit House Pioneer Dwayne Jensen Passes Away R.I.P. to influential house producer Dwayne Jensen, who passed away on May 28. Every once in a while a DJ will revisit their old days by digging through tracks you started with. This set is exactly that. After buying Traktor Scratch day 1, it opened up the possibility to play songs that will never be on vinyl. As a DJ refines their craft, you get to a point of no return, meaning style, sound, and energy all change over time. These tracks help me remember where I come from. I hope this brings you back to the days where the music had set you free. The PAC-Man DJM-800 was my first professional mixer. The PAC-Man StyleFlip took lots of hours to design, and consists of many different versions of PAC-Man, from Atari to Nintendo. The design was the 8th style flip ever printed and was free with the purchase of the mixer. Thanks Vital Vinyl! I learned everything on that mixer. For the last 3 years I have used a Xone 92, which is simply a masterpiece.

What we gonna do right here for Episode 113 is go back. WAY BACK. Back in to time... Ten years ago. Sounds like a long time, doesn't it? Well, David and Trip take a look back and see how much different everything was: 2007 marked the beginning of the mobile revolution. Apple announced the iPhone, and since then, mobile technology has drastically changed the definition of a phone. As DJs, there's so many apps and ways for our devices to help us DJ, now...all thanks to the advancement of smartphone technology. DJ Mag's Top 100 is saturated in trance and rife with voting controversy.  Beatport's Top 9 selling tracks in 2007 indicates the dominance of electro-house in the years before dubstep domination. Daft Punk releases Alive in 2007 (which went on to win a Grammy in 2009). Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five were inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Pioneer launched the DJM-700 and the CDJ-400, Technics put out a super-limited run of 1000 SL-1200MK6, Vestax released the first serious DJ controller (VCI-100), and among several other hardware releases from Behringer, Xone, Korg, and others, the Innofader drops on to the market. Traktor Scratch comes in to being after splitting off from Final Scratch. Beyonce topped the charts in 2007, but the much of the top 20 was saturated by the likes of Akon, Timbaland, Fergie, while Rhianna and others were solidifying their superstar status, as well.

MiniCoolBoyz (ITA) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 63 Pt. 3 Bio: Born in 1984, Michele and Raffaele discovered electronic music in the year 2000. Soon after, they began following the Italian nightlife and attending the most important european festivals such as “I Love Techno” in Belgium and “Timewarp” in Germany. During those trips abroad they discovered the magical feeling between Djs and their crowds. Growing up, they started to open up to new sounds, especially the ones created by techno guru Richie Hawtin, aka Plastikman. Michele and Raffaele radically changed their musical tastes: their current style is minimal techno with detroit and tech-house influences. Thanks to their skills and love for music, Michele and Raffaele went on to play at several important clubs in Italy. Michele and Raffaele play their sets with a mix of both traditional and new hardwares, achieving the best sound possible: a drum machine, FX and Traktor Scratch technology, creating a perfect mix between a classical Dj set and a computer-based Live Set. In 2006 a new project came to life: MINICOOLBOYZ Michele and Raffaele began playing back2back, trying to find out new sounds and styles ranging form acid sounds and the hardest grooves. Their career started in various italian clubs and their first tracks immediately received great feedbacks from Italian and international Dj’s, charting at the top of Beatport’s Chart. In October 2008, Richie Hawtin chose one of their remix for his compilation CD “Sounds from Can Elles”, available worldwide with DJ Mag and later released on his Label “Minus” (www.m-nus.com/can_elles): “Varese ist leer” is one of the highlights of the album, its sales peaking on charts all over the world and remaining in the Top Ten most requested Techno songs for a long time. 2009 was a landmark year for MiniCoolBoyz: all the top djs of the techno and tech house world play their tracks, most notably Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Paco Osuna, Joris Voorn and many others. Beatport brands them “Richie Hawtin’s Prodigies” (www.beatportal.com/feed/item/meet-can-elles-producers-richie-hawtins-prodigies/) Dubfire calls them: “The future stars of electronic music!” and signs two of their tracks to his label Sci+Tec Digital Audio (www.beatportal.com/feed/item/future-stars-of-electronic-music/). Releases followed on acclaimed labels such as SCI+TEC Digital Audio, Saved Records, Octopus, Bitten, Terminal M, Kling Klong, Great Stuff, MBF and many more, and gigs were booked at some of the most important clubs in Europe and festivals such as Watergate, Weekend, Heineken Balaton Sound, Igloofest, Electrovenice. MINICOOLBOYZ are currently focusing on a vinyl only special project called Triptych, and an ep is set to be released on Carl Cox’s Intec Digital imprint. Tracklist: 01. Nelson’s Commitment to music comes from early in his childhood years , when he began playing guitar and percussion while involved with various rock , punk, funk, and jazz bands. Much of his deep knowledge of music comes from years of working at local record stores Such as Spec’s , Uncle Sams Music Cafe , and Virgin Megastore. It has all carried over to the present , as he is now working on his own exclusive DJ-tracks and using Traktor Scratch with over 4,000 records on file . All this while being the creator and event coordinator for the highly successful Miami Meets Detroit WMC BBQ , held annually during the Miami Winter Music Conference (1999-2005), showcasing artists such as Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Stryke, Phoenecia (aka Soul Oddity) , Sean Deason , Terrence Parker, DJ Minx, Alton Miller, The Beatdown Sounds Crew, DJ T-1000 , Matthew Dear, DJ Rolando “The Aztec Mystic”, Murk (Oscar G & Ralph Falcon), and Magda. “Pornograph Events”, Nelson’s vision for Miami’s local scene went a step further, by showcasing artists such as: Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Bryan Zentz, DJ Rolando, Kevin Saunderson and Lee Burridge outside of the “WMC” week. In a Market driven by TOP 40, Hip Hop, and Mash Ups, Pornograph Events, was one of THE FIRST and ONLY outlets for UNDERGROUND DANCE MUSIC in South Florida! Nelson’s latest partnership brings him together with a bright young prducer from Los Angeles, CA. Los Angeles based Luis Rosario and Miami based Nelson Fernandez (DJ Nova), have come together to form Ds and Cs. A derivative from their heritage, Dominicans and Cubans. Both shared similar influences as Detroit Techno bridged the gap between their coasts. Both share over a decade of DJ experience crossing dance venues coast to coast. As solo production artists, they continue to push their growing sound, Ds and Cs music production however, is a mix of old school and nu school creating a unique but modern day sound. With obvious ties to Detroit, their sound digs into those influences and creates a new feel. Keep your eye on this young DJ/Producer as he propells Miami to the cutting edge of electronic music!!

The inspiration for this mid month mix came from Jambasha's very own Spanish DJ and Producer Chevy One. Chevy has just completed a fat remix of a tune called Only you on Lot 49 records for Meat Katie and Dylan Rhymes feat. Iconical. The tune is front page in the beatport breakbeat charts..... If you are producing tunes then the front page of beatport is holy ground and where you want to be on a regular basis. Big respect to Chevy One for the tune I play it 2nd to last tune from the end. Please support Chevy and Jambasha and buy a copy from beatport it is only a dollar fifty or something. This mix was done using Traktor Scratch and it is literally the 2nd time I have switched it on. I am still learning and experimenting with various settings. There are a couple of glitches but if you don't try you don't learn. Enjoy the fat breaks. Rubber

It's been a while since our last offering but this podcast episode is definately worth the wait. Ed Kane has been part of the loco crew for years now with several Ketoloco performances under his belt both as "Kanio" and more recently as "Dexter Kane". His astonishing progression, musicality and versatility as a producer and DJ is reflected in his varying guises over the years. We caught up with Ed via skype while he's nearing the end of his current South Americas tour... 1) Tell us about your latest moniker; “Dexter Kane” and the musical direction you are taking with it. Ed: My music taste has changed drastically over the last few years and this project is a reflection of where I'm at right now. I guess the main influences would be deep house and nu-disco at this stage in time. 2) Recently, you’ve been commenting a lot on the issues with Traktor Scratch and praising the advatages of CD’s & vinyls over the programme. Ed: Yeah Tracktor hasn't worked out too well for me sadly. Just when I get over one problem another seems to pop up. I think I've probably been more unlucky than most, but I've seen a few other DJ's have issues while using it in a club. At the end of the day DJ'ing is my livelihood so I need something I can 100% rely on. The whole Traktor concept is just so fraught with potential for error, I've decided enough is enough. Now for the fun task of burning 9 months of CD's! Can't wait!!! :) 3) How was the mix recorded and does this vary from how you perform live? Ed: I can only work during the day in the studio because of neighbours and what with being away a lot my studio time is scarce. Because of this I do mix mixes in Ableton in headphones at times when I can't use my studio. As I've got 2 projects going at the moment I need to use all my studio time for making music, so don't record my mixes live right now. Ableton is great for this but I personally find the program too basic and fiddly in certain areas to use for production, so I use Logic. 4) What are your past experiences of Ketoloco? Did they influence the vibe of your podcast? Ed: I've had some great experiences playing at Ketoloco, most notably The Light Bar (London) and Kerbcrawler (Leeds). I did give some thought to those gigs when I was doing the mix, definitely. 5) How do you feel about acts that don’t make their own music and become successful by paying ghost writers to produce their records? Ed: To be honest it's been a big part of the scene since day one and always will. It's a little frustrating at times but I think it's important to just get on with your own stuff and not worry too much about what everyone else is doing. Plus I can get paid to be one of those writers which is useful if I never need an extra few quid! :) 6) You’re often touring the globe and regularly pop-up in places such as South America. Do you like/dislike the hectic schedule and are there any tricks to surviving it? Ed: I love DJing and making music but the travel is worst side of it. It sounds glamourous but it's basically just sitting around on your own for a lot of the time. On the plus it's made me appreciate certain things in my life a lot more, mainly how important your friends and family are. 7) What have you got coming up production wise in 2011? Ed: I've just finished a couple of new EP's which I'm just about to send out to some labels so keep you eyes out for those. Also just done a remix with Lee Brinx for our label 'Lower East' we run with Cozzy D, it's called Wildkats - Addict for You (Dexter Kane and Lee Brinx mix). There's loads of wicked releases coming up on the Label we've got remixes coming up from Lee Foss, Robert James, Richy Ahmed and Pezzner among others so really looking forward to getting those out. On the Kanio side of things I'm going back to a more techno-y sound with an EP on Blufin and a remix for Boris Brejcha on Harthouse, both will be out shortly. 8) Any special gigs on the horizon? Ed: I'm playing Paris in a few weeks which is always great. Such a beautiful city, may even take my girl and stay a bit! Cheers Lads :) x
