VALENTIN HUEDO is a Spanish Dj & Producer, born and raised in Ibiza. Valentin Huedo grew up surrounded by seductive tunes and grooves connected with the astounding nature and free-minded people. He grabbed the core of the island and understood the way music transcends us and make us bond with ourselves and with each other. And since then he's been projecting it both in the island and all around the world. From a very young age, he soundtracked the sunset in the legendary Café del Mar being the youngest dj to play there in a residency that lasted for a decade. "Punk is more an attitude than a style of music. And I think that techno is way more punk than punk." The Spanish DJ discusses the ethos of the underground, vinyl DJing and more on this week's Exchange from AVA Festival. Héctor Oaks relocated from his hometown of Madrid to study at "Berlin University"—the clubs, record stores and underground parties that would shape his career as an artist. After once famously saying he could "live in peace" if he could play Berghain just once, the techno DJ has since graced the institution's dance floor multiple times and earned residencies at Herrensauna and Bassiani. Now one of a handful of in-demand, vinyl-only DJs, he's also a prolific artist and the head of two labels, KAOS and OAKS. What makes Oaks especially interesting as an interview subject, though, isn't his newfound popularity, but the underlying ethos that drives his music career. A self-described "techno punk," he reflects on what happens to the punk ethos around the underground once the underground becomes mainstream. "When you see that you've worked for the underground and then the underground becomes pop, do you want to fight against it, or do you want to be part of it?" he asks. "We're not only carrying the music, but we're carrying the values." In this interview, Oaks also talks about the art of playing vinyl, his new hip-hop project, working for the now-defunct Record Loft and his forthcoming album and live show. Last Tuesday night, Kesha took the stage at the Kia Forum in Inglewood to perform a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" with Chevy Metal, a covers band that was led by the Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. During her performance, Kesha had a wardrobe malfunction and overcompensated for it by singing too loudly which caused her to hemorrhage one of her vocal cords. Despite the blunder, Kesha put on an impressive show and was one of many talented singers and musicians who participated in the six-hour fundraising event in honor of late Foo Fighters drummer Hawkins who died in March at the age 50. Kyodai means "brothers" in Japanese and that's a good clue for guessing who's behind these two heads, the producers are known under a variety of different names! They started at the end of the 90's their main project called WAGON COOKIN' alongside with their own record label APPETIZERS and the duo gained respect from musical heavyweights like Lauren Garnier, Masters At Work, Jimpster, Gilles Peterson, Rainer Trüby, and they regularly release under a variety of different names for labels such as Compost, Odori, Om, Lovemonk......... Kyodai together with Wagon Cookin have had a strong run of releases since their debut here on Freerange Records Their "Mi Rumba EP" must have impressed a lot of people as they went on to release a follow up EP for Mad Mats blossoming Local Talk label with "Breaking EP", supported by top names, until reaching the top list of the Gilles Peterson's "An All Winners Show", and to be part of the GTA V soundtrack, also have an EP due on Poker Flat called "Never Know". Kerri Chandler dug it enough to include on his RA podcast and it was also picked up for the Cielo Compilation on Nervous, resulting many request for remixes and productions.
