Early on in Season 2, you may recall me complaining about the Filianists and how hard it was to track down the practitioners of the Filianism and Deanism religion or anyone associated with the book, “The Chapel of Our Mother God: The Scripture of the World's First Faith.” Thanks to the miracle of social media that is sometimes horrid but also sometimes helpful, today's guest, Jo, and another woman reached out to me when I posted a rant about my frustration. So today Jo is here to tell us all about Filianism, what it is and isn't, where it came from, and how people are quietly practicing this Goddess religion today. Jo, who also goes by Jaia Filyani, is one of the small but dedicated (and ever growing!) group of people who deeply believe in Dea (their preferred term for Goddess). Jo is in the process of getting her bachelor's degree in social work to be followed immediately by a master's program, and she has 2 minors, one in history and the other in health communication. She lives in Texas and has always been fascinated by religion, yet unable to connect with the common forms of it around her, which were mainly Protestant or Lutheran Christianity. She created her online presence to educate people who have found themselves searching for a religion that might find Filianism is a good fit for them. FOLLOW: You can find Jo online and learn all about Filianism at her YouTube channel, on Instagram @aboutfilianism, and Tumblr at jaiafilyani. You can also contact Jo directly if you have questions about Deanism and Filianism on Facebook or send an email to: filianicstudies@gmail.com. British-Italian-Brazilian, @JaiaSowden, references three generations of her family moving countries as a "tradition," even proposing that moving countries is "in their blood," and that putting down roots "would feel claustrophobic." Jaia is the daughter of my Episode 41 guest, Tabitha Sowden, and certainly there are overlaps in their stories, such as relocating from Milan, Italy to the UK at around 17, where both mother and daughter finished secondary school. But from the UK, Tabitha ultimately went South, falling in love with Brazil, and a Brazilian, Jaia's father. In contrast, Tabitha went north from the UK, falling in love with the Nordic countries Denmark and Sweden, becoming proficient in the Swedish language. Jaia says it was her grandparent's move from the UK to Italy, when Tabitha was two-years-old, that put this family in motion. And "It's one of the best legacies," she says.

Satorrak konpartsako kide, Aste Nagusia bizi eta mugitzen zuen arima bihurria izan da ordutik hona. Jaia ez da soilik dibertitzea, mundu bidezkoago bat aldarri egitea ere bada. Ondo zekien hori Lukek, jaia ikusten zuen pertsonen arteko zubiak eraikitzeko tresna gisa, hezurdura bat emateko gizataldeari, elkar ezagutzeko, elkar laguntzeko, ez gaitezen izan hiritar bakartiak, bata bestearen axolarik gabe.

Last year, the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative examined over 4,000 executives from 119 music companies and found that only 7.5% were Black. In this episode we're joined by Jaia Thomas, founder and president of Diverse Representation, and Amity Paye, senior director of communications at Color Of Change, two organisations that recently announced the launch of the Diverse Representation Music Database, which connects music companies directly with Black talent across the USA. They'll be talking about representation and equity in the music business, as well as the ambitions of the database, and the corporate accountability of the industry at large. Amity and Jaia also suggest how you can get started and be part of the change – even if you think you're not powerful enough to make a difference. (Spoiler: you are!) Today is my birthday…But I have a gift for you! As an artist, your divine purpose is to change the world through your creativity. And if you're called to be a part of the rise in social activism right now – I've got a story that will inspire you to further raise your hand (and your voice!). Jaia Thomas of Diverse Representation joins me on the podcast today and models how to connect the dots from creativity to activism – and how we are called to do this work (big and small). Jaia walked into Black Panther pumped to see all the Black actors on screen; after the movie, she rushed home and whipped out her laptop to learn more. When she discovered the teams behind the Black actors were not Black she knew she had to do something about it (correction: she was able to find one person on Lupita Nyong'o's team). As you'll hear, it wasn't always a walk through Wakanda – but Jaia put one foot in front of the other to create a company (and a movement): Diverse Representation connects acting and sports talent with Black agents, attorneys, managers, & publicists (and each other!). If you have any desire to make this world a better place, I know her story will inspire you. Today is my birthday (it's okay to say that twice on the actual day, right?) and honestly, the greatest gift you could give me – AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THIS PLANET – is to do what you were called to do (anything less would be selfish). Welcome to Episode 204! This episode marks almost exactly 1 year since Black Creative Healing began as a podcast, and we're marking that occasion by closing our 2ndseason with another multi-guest collaboration. Yes, you heard right, this is our Season finale! More on that later J Our guests for this collaboration are Jaia Cooper and Breanah Williams, who have been working alongside us this past semester as work study students from Shenandoah University. Both Jaia and Breanah are students in Shenandoah's Music Therapy program, and we share our deepest thanks to their professor (and BCH collaborator Hakeem Leonard) for recommending them to us for this term! Jaia and Breanah have been managing our social media throughout the semester, and introduced themselves early on with their own Instagram posts – they've also been behind many of the quotes and quizzes you've seen in our Instagram stories. Our conversation leaps right from their introductions into a topic that – unbeknownst to each of us - has been burning in our bellies for a long time to discuss: Abolition.
