Jesus warns that speaking against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable – but the warning isn’t as frightening as it first sounds. Today's question is one that Pastor says has been the question asked with the most fear. Other ways this question is asked: ⁃ What is the unforgivable sin? ⁃ What is the sin against the Holy Spirit? ⁃ How can I be sure I haven't done this? ⁃ If I have done this is there any hope? ⁃ How do I avoid the unforgivable sin? Matthew 12:31-32 Jesus says, "And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." What is that sin? Let's start by looking at the context … ⁃ Jesus was preaching and healing. Religious authorities saw Jesus as a threat. Jesus heals a paralyzed man and the religious leaders say Jesus is blaspheming because He told the man your sins are forgiven, take up your mat and walk. And the religious leadership are angry and they continue to get angrier. Matthew 9:3 ⁃ Matthew, one of Jesus' disciples, hosts a dinner, invites his tax collector friends and Jesus attends too. The religious leaders accuse Jesus of "eating with tax collectors and sinners." Matthew 9:11 ⁃ Jesus heals a demon possessed man and the religious leaders say Jesus was able to heal the man through demonic powers. Matthew 9:34 ⁃ Jesus and disciples are walking in the grain fields on the Sabbath Day, picking and eating grain and the religious leaders say they are working on the day of rest, which is unlawful. Matthew 12:2 ⁃ Jesus heals a demon possessed man and now the religious leaders plot to kill Jesus. Matthew 12:14 ⁃ Jesus heals a man and they say that Jesus healed by the power of Beelzebul (the devil) Matthew 12:24 It is at this point that we continue with the verses just before our text for the day on the unforgivable sin. We read in Matthew 12:25-28 "Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? (Meaning how can I be healing from demons by using demons?) And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you." What Jesus is saying is look at what you see. Stop judging on the basis of your own anger and bitterness and look at what the Bible has said along. God's healing is being brought to people. The Holy Spirit is testifying that the Messiah has arrived! Then Jesus speaks the words we started with this morning. Note that the first words are "EVERY KIND OF SIN AND SLANDER CAN BE FORGIVEN." Jesus goes on and what He's saying is if we continually refuse to listen to the Holy Spirit and actually go so far as to call what the Spirit does as demonic then we are setting ourselves up for the unforgivable sin. (Note: Jesus is not saying they have done this, but He is calling them to search the scriptures, to search their hearts.) The Holy Spirit always testifies to Jesus. Jesus is saying do not sin against the Spirit because if you persist in that you are cutting yourself off from the only One who can save. The Holy Spirit leads us to faith and to Jesus, who opens our eyes to see the goodness and grace of God. What is the sin against the Holy Spirit? IT IS THE CONSCIOUS, DELIBERATE AND PERSISTENT REJECTION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT'S TESTIMONY TO THE IDENTITY AND SAVING POWER OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. Jesus speaks these words of warning to them to lead them to repentance and faith. God is merciful. His desire is for ALL. Classic example: ⁃ Saul of Tarsus - the persecutor of believers who becomes a transformed man - Apostle Paul. Pastor shares Saul's story of transformation. Paul understood the sin of the Holy Spirit because that was the path he had been on in his life. But then Saul has an encounter with God that changes him and he understands the immense patience of God and His amazing grace. Pastor closes with Romans 10:9-10 "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." God is good! Immaculée Ilibagiza endured an unimaginable horror that few survive and, quite literally, from which few who do actually recover. In her case, through the grace of God, she not only overcame the rage she felt for those who killed her family and villagers, she forgave them. In this candid podcast, she speaks practically about what is perhaps Christianity's most compelling –and seemingly most impossible—task: to love our neighbors and even our enemies. Join Immaculée as she articulates with profound compassion the steps required for us as followers of Christ to love those who harm us and to forgive those hate us. As she will tell us, it is the secret to both freedom and inner peace. About Immaculée: Immaculée Ilibagiza survived the 1994 Rwandan genocide by hiding in a 3ft. x 4ft. bathroom for 91 days with seven other women. Enduring fear, anger, despair, and near starvation, she was filled with hatred knowing her family, community, and nearly one million of her tribe were being slaughtered. Remarkably, those 91 days became a school of prayer and love as she meditated on the words of the Our Father, "… as we forgive those who trespass against us." While in that tiny bathroom her relationship with Jesus Christ grew and her vengefulness was transformed into forgiveness. Immaculee now travels the world sharing her story and healing the hearts of those struggling with fear, doubt, and hatred, and leading them to the peace, freedom, and joy of forgiving our enemies. Her autobiography, Left to Tell, has sold more than two million copies and is in the process of becoming a major motion picture.

“The Abomination Of Desolation And The Unforgiveable Sin” critiques the state's reliance on the law and the legal systems, arguing that in attempting to address issues like racism and inequality, the state creates idols and generates idolatry. The author contends that the law and justice system perpetuate incoherency and power imbalances, not true solutions The law and the legal system requires continual sacrifices from the people, without genuinely resolving societal problems. Ultimately, the justice system is depicted as an obstacle to repentance as it simply reinforces the power of the state at the expense of individual agency and coherence.
“The Unforgiveable Sin Is Incoherency” explores the possibility that in the natural world, force prevails over reason, with law and power being wielded as a form of ethical justification. It argues that idolatry by means of the creation of social justice objectives, serve to transfer authority and property, to the law maker and idolater. This transfer of power and property into the idolater's seat of authority, ultimately leads to the idolater's taking over the role of God over the planet. The legal system is the "Abomination of Desolation" because it serves to unseat God. Ultimately the law becomes so ingrained in the human psyche that individuals are no longer able comprehend their own wrongdoing. This creates a race that is incoherent, meaning technically insane.

Next, Lena Dunham's first new project in years, this time for Netflix and London set RomCom homage Too Much. All who repent and come to Christ by faith will be fully forgiven. But those who continue to willfully and knowingly reject the Spirit's work reveal calloused hearts that will not repent and therefore, will not be forgiven.
Eric Anglin tells us the importance forgiveness. I myself had never heard or thought of forgiveness or the lack of being able to forgive keeping me out of Heaven, but it definitely makes sense. In this sermon, guest speaker, Andrew Graham, leads us in considering Mark 3:28–30. He reminds us of the incredible breadth of the Lord's forgiveness. There is no sin and no words we can speak, which the Lord will not forgive. Having pointed out this truth, he moves on to discuss "the unforgivable sin" and the ramifications of turning away once enlightened. This blasphemy of the Spirit is not a matter of speaking the wrong words but of rejecting Truth and wanting nothing to do with Christ, while knowing exactly who He is. These people don't want His forgiveness and they shall not have it. Moving on from there, Andrew Graham applies the importance of these truths to the lives of mature, established believers. Listen in and be encouraged in your pursuit of Christ.

Have you ever wondered if there's a sin so serious that it can never be forgiven? In this episode of Ask FGBC, Pastor Jim Butler and Wim Kerkhoff explore the biblical meaning of the unforgivable sin, often called blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Drawing from Matthew 12, Hebrews 6, and Hebrews 10, they discuss how this sin relates to apostasy—deliberate rejection of Christ and His work. But what does this mean for those who fear they've committed it? The conversation brings clarity, encouragement, and a reminder of God's mercy in the gospel. The Third Order Powers of the Christ are the most powerful force in our cosmos, far more powerful than we are and infinitely more powerful than the Pleroma of the Demiurge. This is how it is that once we accept the Christ and invite our personal Third Order Powers to enter into our soul we immediately feel the love of the Father and are no longer powerless to resist the wily temptations of the archons of the Demiurge. The Third Order Powers see through the lies and phantoms of the imitation. They cannot be deluded by the deficiency. They are not affected by the never-ending war. And we share that enlightenment to the extent that we accept the indwelling of the Third Order Powers.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Dan back on the show as we discuss the 1984 comedy Revenge of the Nerds. A bunch of misfits come to college, where apparently, the local high school football team is masquerading as college students. Honestly, have you ever met an adult who acts like this? Setting their house on fire? Sure. Destroying property that doesn't belong to them? Of course. Carelessly spilling and spitting out beer? Unforgiveable. This movie lost me at this point. But don't you worry. Our Nerds are going to use Brains over Brawn and give these jocks their comeup'ens. There are some future stars hiding among the cast, as we finally get the answer to the age-old question, “What the fuck are robster craws?” This is an all-time classic movie, and we had a great time discussing it.
