Testimony resumed today from Rebecca Jollotta, the psychiatric nurse practitioner certified by Postpartum Support International, in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, and attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense centered on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.Coming out of the morning recess, Jollotta detailed an extended thread of MyChart messages with Clancy, part of a pattern of communication that stretched well beyond the office visits. She told jurors that at a December 6, 2022 appointment attended by both Lindsay and Patrick Clancy, she floated the possibility of an underlying bipolar disorder. Jollotta said her concern for Clancy's mental health was significant enough that she wanted to be seeing her weekly — and that Lindsay had reported suicidal ideation, though notably never on the days Jollotta actually examined her.Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Patrick Clancy was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. Losing sleep over it. Running the numbers, rehearsing the arguments, bracing for the outcome YOU are afraid is coming. YOU have been carrying the full weight of something as if the entire result depends on YOU getting it right — and the exhaustion YOU feel is the exhaustion of fighting a war that was never yours to fight.2 Chronicles 20 was written for the person carrying that exact weight.Here is the situation. A massive threat was coming. The numbers were not close. There was no strategy that made sense, no plan that added up, no realistic outcome where the people facing it came out alive. And the leader did the one thing most people do last instead of first — and the response he got back was not what anyone braces for when they are outnumbered and afraid.He was told to stop preparing for the fight.Not fight harder. Not fight smarter. Stop.And then he was given an instruction so strange, so backwards, so completely opposite to what YOU do when an enemy is closing in, that most people read it and cannot believe it worked. Two hundred and sixty prisoners were evacuated by streetcar while Chief Sebastian stalled him, and Officer Sam Brown eventually thrust his bare hand through the glass top of the box to smother the lit fuse.The episode closes with Staats Cotsworth as Casey, Crime Photographer, in "A Tooth For a Tooth" by Charles Holden. Rewrite man Henry Brower confesses a premonition of his own death and admits that a man named Renat — no licensed dentist, but a self-described research scientist on River Road — filled his teeth for free to test a new metal. Jonah runs away for two reasons: fear and hate. God has told Jonah to go to Nineveh to warn them, but Jonah refuses. He's afraid to put himself in the midst of his enemies, but he's also filled with hate toward them. So the book of Jonah addresses in a real way the questions “What do I do about my fear?” and “What do I do about my anger?” Let's notice three features of the story: 1) the stormy sea shows us who we are, 2) the religious sailors show us the wrong thing to do about it, and 3) the willing substitute shows us the right thing to do about it.
