Welcome to season 2, episode 49 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. This week I interview three incredible young entrepreneurs from New Jersey. All are doing something they love and are continuing to share their artistic talents with the world. My first guest is Jack Marra. Jack is 16 years old and an incredible artist. He creates fan art, has many requests for commissioned work from his close to 6,000 Instagram followers, and makes beautiful artistic keychains. Jack shares about how his confidence increased as others took notice of his artwork at a younger age.  Sharing fan art from the show Stranger Things truly helped Jack see an increase in followers. From there more opportunities were created. Jack goes on to share the importance of creating characters and that people really enjoy following character stories even if they have never heard of them before. You can see some of Jack's work by following @inkycat186 or purchase artwork at his Etsy shop - @iinkycatz.My next guest is Sienna Grinwald-Alves. Sienna is a junior in college and is attaining her bachelor's degree in music education. She teaches vocal and beginner piano lessons and is also a budding opera singer. She was inspired by her grandfather who was an aspiring opera singer himself. When she was a junior in performing arts high school with a focus on vocal training, Sienna was asked to lead the Zzak G. Applaud Our Kids Foundation's AOK Performance Group. During that time parent's of AOK Performance Group students asked Sienna if she could provide individual vocal lessons. From there she started her performing arts studio called Operatunity Performing Arts Center. Sienna's students have ranged from ages 6 to 81 years old. You can find out more on Instagram @operatunity.pac.Lastly, I interview Hudson Galik. Hudson creates amazing woodworking pieces that he sells. He created an amazing shaker solid wood table for his home and from there realized how much he felt connected to this craft. He named his business Woodism, which is a combination of the word wood from woodworking and autism. Hudson is on the autism spectrum and sees this artistic outlet as a way to express himself and increase his confidence. You can follow him on Instagram @woodismusa or by going to his website - AboutWoodism.com.All my guests this week answer my last question which is, what advice would you give to someone who is young and has a talent that they want to share with the world?  Take a listen to hear their important words of encouragement. It is so important to support small business when making purchases throughout the year. It takes great courage at a young age to put your work out in the public eye. Help support these young entrepreneur's businesses. Next week, I interview Gail Siggelakis. Gail is an award-winning author of the personal growth book, The Affirming Way of Life: See the Good, Speak the Good, Spread the Good. She is also a transformational life coach, and a former elementary school educator. Today is the DayWebsite: https://todayisthedayliveit.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/todayistheday/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/todayisthedayThe Zzak G. Welcome to season 2, episode 22. This is a special episode of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. In this episode I wear a few hats - podcast host and co-founder and CEO of the Zzak G. Applaud Our Kids Foundation. The foundation is celebrating five years of creativity, kindness and connection. I am excited to be joined by my sister and President and Co-founder of the Zzak G. Applaud Our Kids Foundation, Melissa. I am also joined by my mother, Patti also known as Hot Gramms, my daughters Gabriella and Sienna and my niece Isabella. Zzak G.'s granddaughters. Their Pop Pop had a lasting effect on them, and he is the inspiration behind starting the foundation. We are also joined by two AOK Students that are funded through the foundation and their mom's. They share how the performing arts positively impacts their children. Lastly, I am joined by AOK Performance Group Members and a few of their mom's. The AOK Performance group is our audition only 'kids helping kids' community service group. Zzak G. was unable to take his first vocal lesson until his mid-thirties because of financial constraints.  During his first lesson he learned he was an operatic tenor. At that point he had a family and ongoing lessons in the way he wanted to take them was not in the cards, yet being on stage was where he truly felt at home. Zzak was diagnosed with ALS in October of 2014 and passed away May 24, 2015. His biggest regret was not being able to connect to what he enjoyed, an ongoing creative outlet. In 2017 Melissa and I decided we needed to do something to help ensure that no other child grew up with that being their biggest regret in life. So, we started the Zzak G. Applaud Our Kids Foundation a 501 c3 not-for-profit or as I say for-impact organization that funds children living with financial barriers to take ongoing lessons in dance, acting, instrumental music, or vocal instruction. The children can be funded for up to 15 years through various programs. Students take their lessons at approved studio partner locations that are close to their home. That means we support local businesses as well. We also fund teachers to go into existing community programs when transportation is an issue for the family. We provide all the necessary resources needed to ensure students success including instruments and dancewear.  Our Dad told us that we would know he is watching over us in all the smiles we would see, but back in 2015 we had no idea what that meant. Now, through the foundation we see what the performing arts brings to these children - smiles. From calling their instrument their best friend or being told by them that their dance lessons is all they have. We have seen firsthand how the performing arts is a lifeline. It is not an extra. We work with community organizations to find the children who need our programming the most. Some of the organizations include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs, The Salvation Army, CCYC, DCP&P, and so many more. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram @applaudourkids and to learn how you can help connect a child to a creative outlet go to applaudourkids.org. Listen in to hear more of our story.

Preparing for, and having, a successful singing performance when you get no rehearsal and don't know the room or the sound person, is not easy. Fortunately there are some steps you can take that will help you to sing with confidence and shine like a star. Today, we're going to hear from one of my Confident Vocalist Circle classes where I shared my tips for preparing for and handling a recent mystery performance, singing at my sister's wedding reception. I'm sharing this on the podcast because I had several people message me after the class and they shared with me how much of a game-changer it's been in their ability to be confident in a mystery performance...one where you are walking into a situation with no rehearsal and little insight into the situation.

I have been playing guitar and singing for 20 years, performing in various genres both solo and groups. My training is in classical and jazz voice (which I studied at UNT), and I have adapted and used that training as a rock performer. I have taught beginners and served as a vocal coach for regularly performing veterans. Many people feel that without "natural talent," they cannot ever have a singing voice to be proud of. However, in all my time performing and teaching, I have seen the evidence over and over again that singing is a learned art. Someone lacking in natural talent can nonetheless make great strides with work and focus. I myself am proof of that. I am self-taught in guitar, with a strong background in music theory. I generally teach beginner to intermediate guitar, or guitar as a second (or third, or fourth) instrument, as theory and my own experience with other instruments can make the transition a smoother one.
