Create more certainty in your life and business with Finding Certainty's unique blend of insights, ideas, and special guests.
Welcome to Finding Certainty. Today, as part of our ongoing exploration of the principles that lead to greater certainty in life and business, we focus on one of the most universal and transformative concepts: Light. Light symbolizes hope, guidance, and truth, all essential components of certainty. In this episode, we'll uncover how embracing and sharing light—whether in leadership, personal development, or service—can illuminate our paths and those of others, creating a ripple effect of positivity and assurance. We'll discuss powerful examples of light in action, from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' “Light the World” campaign to global figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa, whose lives were beacons of hope. Light's presence in art, science, and faith reveals its profound ability to inspire and guide us through challenges. In business, leaders who radiate clarity and positivity not only attract success but foster environments where trust, collaboration, and innovation thrive. The Law of Attraction teaches that the energy we emit shapes what we receive. By radiating light through kindness, optimism, and service, we create a self-sustaining cycle of growth and fulfillment, both personally and professionally. From daily actions to transformative initiatives, light aligns us with our values and allows us to build certainty not only for ourselves but for everyone around us. In closing, light is more than a metaphor—it's a foundation for purpose and progress. When we share our light, we become agents of clarity and hope, helping ourselves and others move confidently through life's uncertainties. Last November for Thanksgiving I did a monologue on Gratitude. It was the second monologue I'd ever done. The first was impromptu and unexpected. On June 30th to be exact my scheduled guest had last minute technical difficulties and was unable to log onto Zoom to join me for the show. Wth zero notice or time to prepare I ended up having to do a last minute one-person monologue, off the cuff (and from the heart). I spoke on how we can FIND, yes, even CREATE, greater Certainty in our lives, even in the midst of today's looming UNcertainty ... (i.e., fears, rising costs, worries, and wars and rumors of war, as it were). I enjoyed the chance to speak from the heart a great deal during that show. So much so, in fact, I thought I'd try it again and do another monologue which I did for the Thanksgiving weekend last year. I figured, if Rush Limbaugh could speak for two or three hours at a time without any guests (and not even a script it seemed) and do as masterful a job as he did, I felt I could take a crack at it as well. I'm no Rush, but I did feel like I had a few thoughts I wanted to share and do feel they can benefit you in your own life and business as well. Well, I've now gone almost an entire year with starting each month with a Certainty Monologue (the first Friday of each month). I've been going through the alphabet with topics like Accountability, Balance, Faith, and more. With Thanksgiving this week and the Holiday season upon us, and due to the fact that VoiceAmerica isn't doing any live broadcasts this year, I thought I'd just rebroadcast my episode on Gratitude from last year. In it, I share seven (7) things for which I am grateful along with the 7 lessons they've taught me and the remarkable ways in which they've blessed my life (and can bless yours too). These 7 lessons are the part, at least from the feedback I've received, that my listeners have enjoyed and benefited from most, it seems. If you take the time to listen in, you may just agree. With almost 40 years of experience in finance, sales, business, and leadership; as an entrepreneur at heart, a former athlete, an outdoorsman, and the owner of 3 different companies; as a husband, father of 5, speaker, 3 x author (my last 2 books are both international best sellers), and more, I can fill up 60 minutes pretty easily. I've proven it and I believe you'll enjoy the insights if you'll join me for this ride. Many refer to my show as a walk down memory lane. It's a good description. Call this episode a “walk down my own lane.” I look forward to the path together. If you'd like to learn more about Finding Certainty, yours truly, our veteran owned consulting firm, Certainty Management, or our JV technology firm, Certainty Global, please go to www.certaintyteam.com, text the word Certainty to 26786, or call us at (888) 684-3122. In this episode of Finding Certainty, host Patrick Laing sits down with seasoned entrepreneur, business coach, and Profit Acceleration Specialist, Skip Nelson, to delve into the realities of building a business from the ground up. Together, they explore the challenges of entrepreneurship—the sacrifices, costs, long hours, and often sleepless nights that are all part of the journey. They also discuss the WHY: the dreams, rewards, and driving purpose that make it all worthwhile. The discussion highlights the critical role of understanding one's WHY. Why are you in business? Why is it worth it? Are you willing to persevere through the setbacks and challenges that will surely come? Skip reveals that money is rarely the sole motivator and emphasizes the importance of connecting with a deeper purpose. Patrick concurs and shares his own insights as the owner of three different companies, two domestic, and one international. Skip shares his invaluable insights on why so many business owners excel at their craft but so often struggle with the “business of business.” It's usually because, while they're good at what they do (dentistry, roofing, law, etc.). they aren't usually marketers, accountants, attorneys, SEO experts, or salespeople, etc. To succeed at business, we all need to do three main things: 1. Put in the effort, maintain a strong work ethic, and be willing to pay the price. 2. Surround themselves with a team of experts who excel in areas they don't (this includes of course coaches, mentors, and other business experts like Patrick and Skip). 3. Commit to continuous growth, learning, improvement, and ongoing evolution. Tune in for an inspiring and practical conversation packed with advice and encouragement for entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey. Welcome to Finding Certainty. Today, as part of our journey through the alphabet of principles that lead to greater certainty in our lives and businesses, I've decided on “K is for Kindness.” Often overlooked in business, kindness is a powerful tool that can help build trust, loyalty, and stability—essential pillars of certainty. Leading with kindness may seem unconventional, but it forges relationships that last, creating environments where people feel valued and motivated to give their best. In this episode, we'll explore how kindness functions as “compassion in action.” We'll share examples like Patagonia and Southwest Airlines, where kindness has led to stronger customer loyalty, company stability, and growth. These companies understand that treating people well—whether employees or customers—builds a sense of certainty that fuels long-term success. Kindness in leadership also creates a culture of trust, where innovation and collaboration thrive. Leaders like Tony Hsieh of Zappos built a legacy on this foundation, creating brands known for exceptional customer care and employee loyalty. Kindness fosters creativity, and when people feel valued, they're more willing to invest their time and ideas. We'll also touch on the importance of everyday acts of kindness. It's not just grand gestures that matter but the consistent, small actions that build trust and reinforce our own sense of purpose. Kindness aligns us with our values, fostering certainty not only in others but within ourselves. In closing, kindness is far more than a feel-good concept—it's a strategic approach that invites kismet, aligning us with opportunities we might not foresee. When we lead with kindness, we set a foundation of certainty that supports both our personal growth and professional success. Every month in 2024, as you know if you've been following our show, I take a break from having guests on Finding Certainty to share my personal thoughts on a specific topic. We're making our way through 26 principles, one for each letter of the alphabet, and this month we're at “J.” I've decided to discuss the topic of Joy … something I think most of us would love to experience more of. Joy, in many respects, an outgrowth of Certainty and of the previous topics we've been discussing. It's also a catalyst for them too, though. Which comes first, right? The chicken or the egg or, in this case, Certainty or Joy? Joy is an experienced and a characteristic that can be elusive if you're not careful, but so much of it depends on us and our minds. What we think of it, how we define it, and how we FIND it are all fair game during today's Certainty discussion. In today's monologue, I'll share why joy is so crucial, explore how it touches every area of our lives (or, can, if we'll let it), and offer a few personal stories and lessons as usual that I've learned along the way. I've experienced some great examples in my life and learned, the hard way at times, how to protect and fortify the joy in my life. During the show, we'll talk about the secrets to finding more joy–how to find it, develop it, maintain it, and retain it. Like all of these topics, joy is something I'm working on daily, striving to improve and grow. In this upcoming episode of Finding Certainty on VoiceAmerica Business, host Patrick Laing sits down with David Kazarian, the innovative founder and CEO of Student Optimum Services (SOS) in Southern California. Join us as we delve into David's journey of building a company that specializes in helping students navigate the complex world of financial aid, scholarships, and student loan optimization. Discover how SOS is making a significant impact by empowering students to graduate with less debt and more financial freedom. In the USA, as of 2024, 43.5 million people carry student loan debt, with an average of over $45,000.00 owed per borrower. David Kazarian and his team at SOS are on a mission to help as many of these individuals as possible take advantage of federal programs available to them that can help reduce their financial burden. Their goal is to free up money that borrowers can then use to lower their total debt, increase their savings, and boost their investments. During the conversation, Patrick and David also explore the specific eligibility requirements for SOS's services, which include: Total student loan debt must be $20,000.00 or higher. Students must be out of school (unless the loan is a Parent's Plus Loan). Loans must be federal loans, not from private lenders. The borrower must currently have a payment plan. If you're passionate about debt-freedom, financial literacy, or simply looking to learn from a leader who's actively making a difference, this episode is not to be missed. Tune in to gain insights into how David and his team are transforming the financial futures of former college students nationwide. In this inspiring episode of Finding Certainty, syndicated host Patrick Laing sits down with Brady Murray, Founder of RODS Heroes and CaringTide, to discuss the profound impact of adoption and the beauty of raising children with Down Syndrome and other disabilities. Brady shares his personal journey as a father of 11, including two children with Down Syndrome, and seven total adopted children. Together, Patrick and Brady explore the challenges and triumphs of parenthood, nonprofit work, and how disabilities—often inaccurately seen as weaknesses—can not only be transformed into strengths but can actually be advantages and inspiration in and of themselves (the lessons they teach can most definitely be). Through their conversation, Patrick and Brady offer a heartfelt message to families, urging them to open their hearts to the joy and capabilities of individuals with Down Syndrome and other mental and physical challenges. Brady emphasizes the belief that no professional success can compare to the fulfillment found in a strong, diverse, and dynamic family, and he shares his mission to change perceptions, proving that disabilities can be a powerful source of strength and inspiration both. Every month in 2024, as you know if you've been following our show, I take a break from having guests on Finding Certainty to share my personal thoughts on a specific topic. We're making our way through 26 principles, one for each letter of the alphabet, and this month we're at “I.” I've decided to discuss the topic of Integrity. It's fitting because integrity in many respects ties all of the previous topics together like the thread in a quilt, much like the extraordinary Quilt of Valor veteran recognition ceremony I was honored to attend this week. Integrity is the foundation of every characteristic we've discussed this year, and I truly believe that without it, none of the others—like Accountability, Balance, or Humility—can stand on their own. In today's monologue, I'll share why integrity is so crucial, explore how it touches every area of our lives, and offer some personal stories and lessons I've learned as well as several examples from around the world about the topic. We'll talk about staying true to one's values, even when it's difficult, and staying consistent and rooted most of all. Like all of these topics, integrity is something I'm working on daily, striving to improve and grow. Every month (on the first Friday of the month), as you may already know, I do a monologue instead of having an interviewee here on Finding Certainty. No dialogue or call-ins. Just yours truly sharing my thoughts and experience on a specific topic (I've planned out 26, one for each letter of the alphabet. It's going to take me a couple of years to get through them all). This week, with August being the 8th month of the year, we're at “H” is for Humility. It seems a little funny, talking about Humility like I'm an expert or something. I'm not, but I do have a few thoughts I'd like to share. In fact, each of the topics I've addressed this year have been areas I'm personally working on and trying to improve at myself. Just like last month's topic (Giving), Humility is a subject I think often about and continue to work at daily. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not. I have some strong opinions on each of these topics, have learned some powerful (sometimes painful) lessons regarding them, and they're each something I'm learning a lot about and trying to master in my life. I believe Humility is one of the most fundamental principles and characteristics we've all got to master if we want to be truly successful in life, not to mention “find” and develop CERTAINTY in our lives. There are a lot of ways that we can learn humility and, in my experience, when we need it, the Lord is happy to provide reminders. Humility is core to any successful relationship, lasting impact, or legacy we hope to leave for our kids, our team, our clients, and more. If you'd like to learn more about yours truly (Patrick Laing), our show, Finding Certainty, our veteran owned consulting firm, Certainty Management, or our global JV firm, Certainty Global, please go to www.certaintyteam.com or call us at (888) 684-3122. You can watch the video version of these radio show interviews on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@certaintymanagement. I wish you the best. Every month (on the first Friday of the month), as you may already know, I do a monologue instead of having an interviewee here on Finding Certainty. No dialogue or call-ins. Just yours truly sharing my thoughts and experience on a specific topic (I've already planned out 26, one for each letter of the alphabet. It's going to take me a couple of years to get through them all). This week, with July being the 7th month of the year, we're at “G” is for Giving. Just like last month's topic (Faith), Giving is a subject I think often about and continue to work at daily. Sometimes it's easy and other times it's not. I have some very strong opinions concerning the topic, have learned some powerful lessons surrounding it, and it's still something I'm learning about and trying to improve at. I believe it's one of the most fundamental principles to “finding” and developing more CERTAINTY in our lives that exists. There are a lot of ways that we can Give vs. Receive. Most fill us up, expand our visions, bring us more joy, satisfaction, and success. It's an eternal principle, one proven many times over. If you're ever struggling … with your health, your emotions, going through an illness, a challenge, a betrayal, or a loss, it's easy to focus inward and feel forlorn and forgotten. It's natural. We all feel that way. I've learned from long experience, though, that the best way to feel better is to look outward vs. inward, to get out and go serve others … to “lose myself in that service” as Jesus liked to say. It's hard to describe but it invariably makes ME feel better, even though I'm not the one “receiving” the service. It's a mystery but it absolutely works. I've seen too many examples of this to deny it in my life. If we can remember this, it can change our lives, our relationships, our very nation and the world as a whole. I hope we can get there. If you'd like to learn more about Finding Certainty, our veteran owned consulting firm, Certainty Management, or our global JV firm, Certainty Global, please go to www.certaintyteam.com or call us at (888) 684-3122. Every month (on the first Friday of the month), as you may or may not know, I do a monologue instead of having an interviewee here on Finding Certainty. No dialogue or call-ins. Just yours truly sharing my thoughts and experience on a specific topic (I've already planned out 26, one for each letter of the alphabet. It's going to take me a couple of years to get through them all). This week, with May being the 5th month of the year, we're at “E” is for Endurance. Just like last month's topic (Discipline), Endurance is a subject I think often about and continue to work at daily. Sometimes it's easy and other times it's not. I have some strong opinions concerning the topic, have learned some powerful lessons surrounding it, and it's still something I'm learning about and trying to improve at. The following poem summarizes the subject pretty well: In this marathon of life we travel along: Through trials and tests, we try to stay strong. Prepared as we are, with our hearts so imbued, Ready to face whatever we choose. Devastation hits, we take the blows, Evaluation helps as our fortitude grows, We reassess, realign, and adjust our pace, Effort and persistence we steadily embrace. We learn from each step and stumble we take, Growth is the journey that we happily make. With faith in ourselves, we rise above, As trials become stepping stones we may actually love. Going the extra mile, we try, we dare, Accountability is and must be our load to bear. No victims here, just work-warriors true, Continually asking, What else can we do? Mentors and coaches, they all lend a hand, Guiding us through this challenging land. We ask for their help ... with humility, Open-mindedness is our truest ability. Teachability becomes our badge of pride, Work ethic, our trusted steed to ride. Momentum builds up with every small win, Sticktoitiveness ... our virtue within. So here's to endurance, to lasting through, With humor, grace, and courage too. In life's grand race, we will always find, The finish line, and our future … defined. In the symphony of life, each step we take, Notes of resilience and hope awake. Harmony, effort, and melody in stride, With every crescendo, our spirits take flight. Choruses of courage, ringing loud and clear, Echoing triumphs, dispelling our fears. Each setback we see as a verse to overcome, Each victory, a beautiful chorus sung. With every trial faced and challenge met, We stand tall and straight, with zero regret. In the journey itself, we have found our might, And, in reaching the end, we discover our light. Every month (on the first Friday of the month), as previously mentioned, I've decided to do a monologue instead of having a guest here on Finding Certainty. No dialogue or call-ins. Just yours truly sharing my thoughts and experience on a specific topic (I've already planned out 26 topics, one for each letter of the alphabet. It's going to take me a couple of years to get through them all). They're alphabetical … so, this week, with April being the 4th month of the year, we're at “D” and my topic for the week is Discipline. Just like last month's topic (Composure), Discipline is a subject I think about often and work away at constantly. I have some strong opinions concerning it and I've learned some valuable lessons about the topic throughout my life. (I'm STILL learning. After all, we're all a work in progress and, yes, it takes discipline to truly make progress in our professions and lives). What is discipline? What does it mean? How do you define it and why does it matter? All good questions addressed and dissected in this episode. It's definitely a goal of mine and, I think it's safe to say, of anyone who wants to be successful at whatever their pursuit or pursuits in life might be. Whether you're an athlete, a musician, a comedian, or an entrepreneur … a student, a parent, a lover, or a friend: discipline and its close cousin, consistency, are two secrets to success. Today's conversation (“with myself”), like so many of these monologues, is one-part analysis, one-part commentary, coupled with large doses of self-reflection mixed in. I believe this is an important topic that touches all of us in one way or another. All of these Insights from Patrick topics are in many respects. Discipline is a key characteristic and habit we all need to develop if we want to find, yes, create and develop more CERTAINTY in our lives. Join me today to learn from a few lessons from my life, a few good examples and some who could do better, and more. We'll look at mentors I've learned lessons from, a good book I recommend, and other insights I've gained. Together we can unpack this topic and try to figure out, and hopefully do it better and more in our lives. I pack a lot into this fourth monologue of 2024. I hope you enjoy it. If you'll join me and listen in, I believe you'll be glad you did. As always, I look forward to the conversation and our ongoing journey together. Every month (on the first Friday of the month), as previously mentioned, I've decided to do a monologue instead of having a guest here on Finding Certainty. No dialogue or call-ins. Just yours truly sharing my thoughts and experience on a specific topic (I've already planned out the next 36 months of topics). They're alphabetical … so, this week, with February being the 2nd month of the year, we're at “B” and my topic for the week is Balance. What's interesting about this is that Balance is a subject I feel I know quite a bit about and have some strong opinions concerning, but I don't feel like it's something I'm nearly as good at as I wish I was. Thus, today's conversation (“with myself”) is one-part analysis, one-part commentary, coupled with a large dose of self-reflection mixed in. I believe this is an important topic that touches all of us in one way or another, for good or bad. It's a key characteristic and habit we need to develop if we want to find, yes, create and develop even, more CERTAINTY in our lives. Join me today to learn from a few lessons from my life, a story about the family business I grew up in (and the lessons we learned from it), a look at one or two of the mentors I've learned lessons from with regards to this subject, a lesson my youngest son, Evan, continues to teach me on a daily basis, and more. As usual, I'll be packing a lot into this second monologue of 2024. I hope you enjoy it. If you'll join me and listen in, I think you'll be glad you did. As always, I look forward to the conversation and our ongoing journey together. If you'd like to learn more about Finding Certainty, yours truly, our veteran owned consulting firm, Certainty Management, or our global technology firm, Certainty Global, please go to www.certaintyteam.com or call us at (888) 684-3122. I wish you the best. Thanks for being a fan if you are or thanks for just stopping by if you have. I hope you stay. I appreciate your patronage and support very much.
