This week a continuation of our series called “In The Shadow Of…”, where we compare obscure bands to a mainstream act. This is not about copycats, but more about artists with similar vibes, sharing a sonic landscape, or whose songwriting and playing styles are sympatico. This is another band that is near and dear to both of you humble hosts. A band whose unique harmonies and awesome riffs inspired both hosts to pick up guitars and start singing; the amazing Seattle grunge gods ALICE IN CHAINS! Join us as we discover other bands influenced and inspired by AIC's revolutionary game-changing music. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This is not a statement about bands trying to copy one another, but more that they have a shared sound and vision. It's been said that there is no originality left in rock n' roll and it has also been stated that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. This week: a sister-cast episode to a series we have called the Inbetweeners where we on the bands straddling the 80s and 90s in rock n' punk n' metal. This is more specific to metal in the 90s after feeling the impact of the overwhelming shifting of sounds during the decade. Metal became a dirty word by the mid-90s as grunge and alternative took over the rock world, but a new movement in the metal genre blended all of these influences with the heavy. Thus, we give you - 90s Alternative Metal! What's this InObscuria thing?

The album showcased his diverse musical influences and featured the radio single "You're Complete." Following the success of his debut, Fabb released another electrifying single in February this year titled "Hell in the Hallway," garnering airplay on prominent radio stations. Continuing his solo journey, Fabb has released a series of captivating singles, including "See No Evil," "Hollow World," and the latest release, "Love and War."Meanwhile, in the realm of Black Label Society, the band is hard at work on their twelfth studio album as confirmed by Jeff on his recent appearance on the Vulgar Display of Podcast. Black Label Society's music is characterized by a sense of rebellion and authenticity, speaking to the disenfranchised and the misunderstood. With Wylde's virtuosic guitar playing at the forefront and Fabb's powerhouse drumming anchoring the rhythm section, the band continues to captivate audiences with their raw, unapologetic expression of life's struggles and triumphs. The band also recently revealed details about the inaugural 'Berzerkus' festival. Set to take place on Saturday, September 14th at Poconos Park in Bushkill, PA, the event promises a dynamic lineup. Alongside Wylde's own Southern metal ensemble, Black Label Society, the festival will feature a co-headlining performance by multi-platinum outlaw country musician Cody Jinks.www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

This week on the pod, Jonah and Vanessa are thrilled to welcome their friend Bill Hader!! They reminisce on the time they all went to Amsterdam for the Trainwreck publicity tour and having the fanciest, and at times scariest, time of their lives. Plus, Bill reminds Vanessa about how he used to lovingly bully her at the read through table at SNL and the time that Jonah did one of Bill's first magazine interviews for "Superbad" all the way back in 2007. We also get into Bill playing bass live on SNL with Corrosion of Conformity and discuss that childhood must-do of sneaking into movies: The times Bill thought he was ready for an R movie but absolutely was not and the time Vanessa got caught sneaking into an R-rated movie and subsequently asked The First Todd pretend to be a lawyer to get her money back, which... he did? (Also, Jonah apparently still did technically sneak into movies as an adult. Thanks, MoviePass.) Finally, in a rousing game of LEGIT MOAN OR UNNECESSARY GROAN, the group debates talking before a movie starts, etiquette for when kids wait for the bus and moms controlling their kids at the store. Before CORROSION OF CONFORMITY gifted us with their signature “Southern Fried Sabbath” sound, the metal world was first introduced to BLIND, a unique blending of thrash, doom, and stoner metal tempered with heavy foundations built on straight-up Sabbath worship. Clearly a progression from the punk & hard-core centric sound of earlier COC and their maiden voyage into thrash metal territory, BLIND sounds as if Black Sabbath time traveled and came to power in the early 90's as a modern-day thrash band complete with all the darker, doomier elements that were such an integral part of their signature sound back in the day. Surely, COC's release of BLIND was pivotal in fostering the resurging popularity of Sabbath's legendary, groundbreaking 70's output. Prepare to receive some sage “exercise” advice and understand why glasses aren't always suitable for certain situations. Remember to never “fake your fartgasms” and don't be a “dry handy jacker” after learning what “U.F.C.” actually stands for. This month we're headed to 1994 for a smorgasbord of slacker rock, industrial, alt country, pop punk, jungle, hip hop, triphop, and more. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - American Music Club, Beastie Boys, Jeff Buckley, Come, Corrosion Of Conformity, The Cure, Green Day, Helmet, Lisa Loeb, Low, M-Beat ft General Levy, Machine Head, Kylie Minogue, Nailbomb, Nine Inch Nails, The Offspring, Pavement, Pop Will Eat Itself, Portishead, The Prodigy, Pulp, Saint Etienne, Seal, Sebadoh, Senser, Silver Jews, Snoop Dogg, Therapy? The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Say hello at www.facebook.com/wedigmusicpcast or tweet us at http://twitter.com/wedigmusicpcast or look at shiny pictures on Instagram at http://instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast Part of the We Made This podcast network. https://twitter.com/wmt_network You can also find all the We Dig Music & Free With This Months Issue episodes at www.wedigpodcasts.com

Have you ever wanted to hear all the heavy in one place? From its origins onward? After the untimely passing of Eric Wagner (Trouble, The Skull), one of doom metal's most notable and esteemed singers and songwriters, The Skull bassist and bandleader, Ron Holzner, contemplated long and hard on whether it would be possible to carry on. Nine months and a lot of soul searching later, an idea was born. Alongside guitarist Lothar Keller (The Skull, Sacred Dawn) and drummer Henry Vasquez (The Skull, Saint Vitus, Blood Of The Sun),  vocalist Karl Agell (Corrosion Of Conformity, Blind, Leadfoot, Lie Heavy) as well as vocalist Scott Reagers (Saint Vitus) and riff master general, guitarist Victor Griffin (Death Row, Pentagram, Place Of Skulls). And so LEGION OF DOOM has come to exist with an all-star lineup of doom's most prestigious figureheads, here to share their ultimate heavy truth, taking the genre from what is known into uncharted territories. Recalls Holzner, “I decided I want to honor the memory of Eric by playing songs that he crafted. I want his spirit to become eternal through his words and melody. And I also want to play songs from the catalogs of everyone involved.” Ron and Karl join Vernomatic and Metal Walt and share the process of how and why this much deserved project came about. The four discuss the history of all the members in this band and how it all ties together with the late Eric Wagner.  LEGION OF DOOM will make its debut appearance at Legions Of Metal Fest in Chicago this June before heading overseas for a performance at Hellfest in France with more live dates to be announced in the weeks to come.   LEGION OF DOOM: 6/03/2023 Legions Of Metal Fest @ Reggies Live – Chicago, IL [info] 6/18/2023 Hellfest – Clisson, FR [info]   LEGION OF DOOM: Ron Holzner – bass Lothar Keller – guitars Henry Vasquez – drums Karl Agell – vocals Scott Reagers – vocals Victor Griffin – guitars   http://www.legionofdoomband.com http://www.facebook.com/legionofdoom http://www.facebook.com/troubletheskull http://www.instagram.com/legionofdoommetal http://www.instagram.com/theskullusa

This week, we have Corrosion of Conformity bassist Mike Dean on the show! During our chat, we discuss their North American tour running all the way until November 27th, performing on Thanksgiving Day this year, celebrating the band's 40th year, and why frequent collaborator and producer John Custer is vital to their sound. We also learn about that time he was left a Texas Circle K barefoot, how Gene Ween helped with long distant phone calls in the pre-cell phone days, what happened if you performed with the SWANS and smiled on stage in the 90's, and the tours that he feels were his all time favorites. The show also has Petar and Sylvia discussing the passing of stand-up comedian Gallagher, my opportunity to go onstage and use the famous Sledge-O-Matic, our thoughts on any kind of Type O Negative reunion, and Nergal's comments about “kids getting a proper job” instead of starting a band. With the beginning of November comes 2 major events here in the US that we decided to Frankenstein together… Hence, Election Day Of The Dead! Join us as we wax poetically about political wax. No matter what side you are on (the ass, the pachyderm, or the angry anarchist), we can all come together to celebrate those that have passed on and rock out to some politically charged rock n' punk n' metal! What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, or something you've simply forgotten about, or that (in our opinion) should have been the next big thing.Songs this week include:Bear Vs.
