It's the 2025 Holiday Episode! As is tradition, we welcome Gary Hodges (Dinosaurs vs. Marsbots) and discuss nice - our proudest achievement for the year (5:00) and naughty - our greatest learning for the year (28:10), before we present a "fresh for '25" holiday hot take extravaganza (42:30)!
In this cozy holiday episode of Linux Out Loud, Wendy, Nate, and Bill juggle Christmas chaos, retro joy, and serious tech lessons. Nate shares the excitement of finally getting his Commodore 64 Ultimate under the tree and rebuilding vintage Christmas trains, while Bill tells a powerful story about stepping into a network left behind after a colleague's passing—and why planning password and account access for loved ones matters more than any gadget. From Synology NAS upgrades and “you can never have too much storage” energy, to Fedora gaming projects, Bazite and Nobara, and the realities of traveling as a digital nomad, the crew covers a lot of nerd ground. They also dig into Home Assistant dashboards, smart bulbs and Christmas displays, securing IoT networks, and why Linux printing is still a little spicy even as it improves. Whether you're here for legacy planning, blinking LEDs, or just some winter-flavored banter, this episode wraps it all up with community love and future-topic teases. On our Holiday Episode of the Tedi Talks Podcast, Tedi welcomes back to the podcast his very special guest and Senior Elf, Cindy Whittum. Tedi and Cindy talk all things Christmas, what they like and what they do not like about the holidays. Tedi and Cindy remind the listeners of their dislike (indifference) to holiday blow-up yard decorations. Cindy shares with us her favorite holiday traditions and all the work they have done at Whittum Farms to get ready for Christmas. Tedi was in a mood and reminded us how much he could care less about Christmas and most holidays for that matter (bah-humbug). Welcome to the HOLIDAY EPISODE. Sandra and Charity are flying solo in this festive episode—no guests, no agenda… just good 'ole fashioned fun. Grab your cozy drink of choice and listen in as they chat about all things Christmas and winter: favorite traditions, simple ways to stay well during the busiest time of year, and the magic (and sometimes madness!) of the season. They also share what's happening with the National Academy, why this time of year is so important for our health and physical literacy communities, and a few sneak peeks of what's coming next. It's light, warm, and full of genuine conversation, making it the perfect listen while you're wrapping gifts, driving to holiday events, or taking a much-needed breather from the hustle and bustle.Enjoy!
This week we're taking a pause for the holiday and bringing you something different: a rewind across all four shows under the All About The Joy umbrella — Friday Night Live, The Private Lounge, Culture and Consequence, and Carmen Talk. Friday Night Live: The week didn't go as planned: too-early holiday decorations, energy at zero, and a funeral that brought everything into focus. That's where our conversation starts—at the messy edge of real life—before opening into a thoughtful, myth-busting look at cosmetic care, modern healthcare, and a practice of joy that actually holds up.The Private Lounge: We're joined by a cosmetic dermatology pro who reframes “Botox” as wrinkle relaxer treatment and walks us through natural results that preserve expression, not erase identity. We talk candidly about safety for immunocompromised folks, when to get physician clearance, and how neuromodulators began as medical tools for migraines, movement disorders, and excessive sweating. The difference between ethical, individualized care and fast-talking upsell culture becomes stark: tailored injections by region, attention to anatomy, and transparency make all the difference. If you've ever worried about looking “done,” this segment will calm your nerves and give you smarter questions to ask any provider.Culture and Consequence: From there, the lens widens to healthcare itself. A simple request for help with sleep turns into a quick pivot toward weight-loss meds, highlighting how billing codes, short appointments, and fragmented referrals undermine whole-person care. We unpack the policy whiplash around insurance, coverage, and political strategy that leaves patients feeling like afterthoughts.Carmen Talk: And then we ground it all with a deeper idea: happiness is fleeting, sadness is fleeting, but joy is a skill you can build. Joy becomes the throughline—from grief and rain-soaked days to better skincare choices and the courage to advocate for yourself at the doctor's office. If you're craving conversations with good friends, from gossipy fun to politics and just good insights, please join and follow along! Share this with a friend who needs encouragement, subscribe for more grounded conversations, and leave a review to tell us where you're finding joy this week.Thank you for stopping by. Send us a textFirst there was a cringey Thanksgiving with a sack full of turkey. Then there was a cringey Christmas alien with a magic mirror, and a magic… you know what. And now, we bring to you: a very cringey Valentine's Day featuring old timey detective vampires and a sweet stalker with Dexter-like tendencies.Today Ashley and Liz give our two cents on two holiday themed novellas we may not have picked up if it weren't for our love of this series: Valentine's Day With A Vampire by Tabitha Lovelace and Little Lies and Valentines by Lashell Rain. We'll give you our star and spice ratings, a basic overview of the plot, and then get into our likes and dislikes, reviews, and whether or not these books are “valentines-y” enough. In this 2024 Holiday Episode, we imagine a year where, Eve and Roarke are so busy with their jobs or with that they did not have time to plan their annual Christmas Party. This is unacceptable to Mavis, so Mavis decides to plan a surprise Christmas party for Eve and Roarke (which Roarke would love and Eve would hate). But Eve and Roarke realize they don’t have gifts for anyone at the party, so they rush to their gift room to find gifts for everyone. So, given this scenario, we found 30 luxury gifts that they might find in the gift room, one gift for each person at the party. We will say a character name randomly, and then we will both decide what gift Eve and Roarke would give each of their friends. It’s a really fun episode! We hope you enjoy the episode and Happy Holidays!

We will say a character name randomly, and then we will both decide what gift Eve and Roarke would give each of their friends. It's a really fun episode! We hope you enjoy the episode and Happy Holidays!

Scott and Mickey talk with Jeff Finup, of Badgerland Legends and the Wisconsin Legends Podcast, about his newly published children's book, "Wisconsin Legends for Kids." The book is a wonderful piece to stir your child's ever-inquisitive mind and sense of wonder, as well as learn about the rich cultural heritage of our state. 10 tales of Wisconsin history are featured, some fact, some maybe up for debate, but all with a flair of enchantment. "Beneath the farm fields and rolling hills lies a darker side of Wisconsin. Mysterious creatures including werewolves, ghostly phantoms, and even lions roam the land. Put your explorer's cap on and dive into some of the best mysteries America's Dairyland has to offer." Jeff Finup is an author, researcher, explorer, and the creator of Badgerland Legends and co-host of the Wisconsin Legends Podcast. When he's not writing about legends, he's exploring the backroads of Wisconsin in search of the strange and the bizarre. In the opening banter, Scott and Mickey discuss the strange tale of Randy Borgwardt and discuss a haunted Wisconsin road trip. All here, complete with Scott's lingering effects of 'Pneumonia Voice,' on a light-hearted Holiday Episode 48 of Badger Bizarre - "Wisconsin Legends for Kids." What's your favorite Halloween costume? What's your favorite Halloween candy? What's your favorite bank heist movie? We figure out how all those questions go together as we hold up Season 2, Episode 7 of Family Matters. (And Season 33, Episode 2 of Dancing with the Stars.) Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. And the best way to figure out how that happened - obviously - is to watch the last episode first and make our way backwards through nearly ten years of television.Join our countdown to number one (and our slow descent into madness) in all the places you expect internet people to be:Website: jumpingtheshuttle.spaceEmail: jumpingtheshuttle@gmail.comInstagram: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Twitter: @JumpingShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577TikTok: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Brought to you by Smooth My Balls
Since 1990, Housing Works has been actively supporting NYC's unhoused population and people with HIV/AIDS through advocacy, mutual support and entrepreneurship. Two years ago, the once radical organization was awarded the city's first recreational cannabis license, and quickly opened a beautiful, inclusive, welcoming dispensary in lower Manhattan that serves the community while giving back to those in need. On this weed's episode, we get the inside story on all that from Sasha Nutgent, Housing Works' Director of Retail Cannabis. While Bean, our host, recalls his own "great moment" of buying legal weed just blocks from where he was arrested for smoking a joint.
