The incident occurred in the school's parking lot, leaving two individuals with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Foor, a witness to a physical altercation, produced a pistol and shot both victims. Another unidentified suspect also brandished a firearm, leading to gunfire without causing further injuries. The motive is under investigation, and the police emphasize it was a specific, targeted incident, not posing a broader threat to students. The second shooter remains unidentified. Increased police presence and counseling support are provided at McEachern High School. McNeill is held at Cobb County Adult Detention Center on a $27,720 bond. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. Wellstar Health System's Dana Rohulich discussed literacy practices for new parents, including the Small Talk program. Superintendent Grant Rivera shared Marietta City Schools' success in raising literacy rates, attributed to strategies like increased reading specialists and a focus on phonics education. The discussion emphasized the need for community support in literacy-rich interactions and addressing disparities tied to zip codes. STORY 5: Power-Jackson Cabin Gets Funding for Relocation Cobb Landmarks has successfully raised the funds required to relocate the Power-Jackson Cabin, believed to be Cobb County's oldest structure. With an initial goal of $65,000, the funds reached an estimated $73,000. The plan is to relocate the cabin to Hyde Farm Park, a county-owned park in east Cobb. The cabin, potentially predating the Cherokee Land Lotteries of 1832 and 1833, is a "rived" log house, unique in construction. Cobb Landmarks aims to preserve this historical structure, and discussions with the county's parks department are ongoing to determine the best location within Hyde Farm Park for the cabin. ***GCPS READ*** Hey, Cobb County! The students' involvement helps them gain valuable skills while contributing to their community. STORY 7: Cobb School Board Chair Slams County's Transit Tax Proposal Randy Scamihorn, the Republican Chair of Cobb County School District, criticized the proposed 30-year transit tax (Mobility Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax - M-SPLOST) in a blog post, stating that it is "bad for Cobb County and our future." The M-SPLOST aims to implement a 1% sales tax to fund transportation projects, including 108 miles of rapid bus routes and new transit centers. Scamihorn expressed concerns about increased transiency, potential negative effects on educational outcomes, and characterized the proposal as disruptive to traffic. County officials, including Democrat Lisa Cupid, support the M-SPLOST as a transformative investment in transportation infrastructure. Información sobre Progreso Latino en el siguiente link:https://progresolatino.org/new-page-20 ABOUT PROGRESO LATINOOUR MISSIONProgreso Latino's mission is to help Rhode Island's Latino and immigrant communities to achieve greater self-sufficiency and socio-economic progress by providing transformational programs that support personal growth and social change. OUR VISIONA socially and economically thriving Latino and immigrant community that drives solutions to statewide issues.OUR HISTORYProgreso Latino was founded in 1977 to serve Rhode Island's Latino and immigrant communities. Local Hispanic leaders saw that the state's existing infrastructure did not adequately meet the needs of the rapidly growing Latino immigrant population. A small group of community leaders came together to form a multi-cultural, multi-service agency with a mission of helping to build a stronger, more self-sufficient Latino community. Since then, PL has grown into the state's largest Latino community organization, serving thousands of people each year through over a dozen core programs and services. We have moved from our original storefront office staffed by a few committed activists to a four-story building in the heart of the city that houses over 50 employees. We have developed critical programs that serve as models for community agencies across Rhode Island. Progreso Latino's programs include adult education, early childhood education, senior services, health and wellness, workforce development, youth development, domestic violence intervention and prevention programs, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, immigration and social services, and emergency food relief. We have developed strong relationships with community partners throughout the state, and have touched the lives of tens of thousands of individuals.

Riverside County Child Support Service's Coffee Break: Episode 1
Espresso Shot 1 Riverside County Department of Child Support Services (RivCoDCSS) has a special guest this episode, Executive Director at the Community Action Partnership (C.A.P) Riverside, Vince Wrzalinski. This episode explains how Taxes and Child Support are connected. The Department of Child Support receives qualifying tax refunds through a Federal Fund program called the Tax Intercept program (1:30). This program provides an opportunity for Tax filers who are entitled to a tax refund and are behind on Child Support to catch up on Arrears. How this program works is that the Federal Government will send the refund or part of it and apply it on any arrears on Child Support. Although it may seem like a negative step, this truly is an opportunity for customers to catch up with their Child Support arrears. The interest rate on past due Child Support arrears is 10% which is high, getting it paid down is very important. The IRS automatically withholds a refund and sends it to the Department of Child Support under a Federal Regulation (2:00). Our guest Vince explains how a Child Support customer can benefit from the resources provided through C.A.P. Of those resources is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) that is available for people with low to moderate-income under $70k. The (VITA) tax program will get qualifying individuals Taxes done for FREE (3:35). The limitation of forms is that it should be a basic 1040 form, have no business losses, and no rental income. The program operates through volunteers who have been certified by the IRS and have received rigorous training (4:50). RivCoDCSS and C.A.P have established a great partnership where C.A.P tax professionals will be assisting customers in our lobby with their taxes. There are select dates where the V.I.T.A tax Professionals will be in our Riverside and Indio locations this month will be March 12th, 2020 in Indio and March 14th, 2020 in Riverside. C.A.P has 26 locations throughout the County that make it convenient for those who may benefit from their services (5:43). The documents that tax fillers should have handy include; a Government ID, Driver’s License, Social Security cards for all dependents, W2's, 1098 forms, and health insurance forms (6:55). The V.I.T.A tax program end date is April 15th, 2020 with an exception of 2 main offices in Riverside and Indio remaining open. 041 Brandi Ghergia—Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)—Amazing Results As the senior manager of the Nashville Alliance for Financial Independence at United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, Brandi Ghergia manages four financial stability programs—Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center, Bank On Music City, and the Nashville Alliance for Financial Independence. The VITA program, with the help of over 260 dedicated volunteers, produced over 15,000 income tax returns in a 30-county area in 2016, resulting in nearly $24 million in tax refunds in Middle Tennessee. The impact VITA is making is amazing. Volunteers don’t have to have a tax preparation background, but they do need to know about computers and be friendly…no grumpy volunteers! Not only do the people helped return each year, but also the volunteers. The service, performed by the volunteers in both a professional and caring manner, creates a sense of community that invites reconnecting from tax season to tax season. United Way is making a better Nashville by creating strategic, scalable solutions focused on education, financial stability, and health—the building blocks for a good life! A quality education leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. Creating solutions in these areas moves people from dependence to independence.
