HCP - Ep. 105- Biblical MetricsOn this episode of the HCP Larry and Drew discuss metrics (what we measure). Often church leaders focus on the 3 B's - Buildings, Bodies, and Bucks as the main metrics for weather or not we are succeeding in our ministry efforts. The question however is, has God called us to success or faithfulness? David was guilty of counting his army instead of trusting God, Gideon was concerned about his lack of army, but God showed Him that the Lord was all he needed. Often as church leaders we're on one side of this or another. We think we're doing ok with a certain “number” that seems ok to feel safe. We must be so careful with seeking our safety, security, joy or fulfillment in the wrong things. What if we counted something over the 3 B's?What if we begin to serve the Lord and His church in such a way that we were more concerned about our disciples making disciples. Or if our people are loving Jesus, serving their families and neighbors as Christ followers. Are our families being discipled in the home and is mission going forward Mon-Sat? The Bible gives us many different scriptures about what should be important to us and Larry and Drew touch base on those “right” metrics and “new scorecard”. We have to look deeper in our people to see if they're “getting it”? Their attendance alone is not enough to determine a life lived for Christ. A new exhibition has opened at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute that takes audiences full circle from the first exhibition there in 1989, to its 30th birthday celebrations and reopening after a six-and-a-half-month temporary closure due to COVID-19 this year.Tandanya first opened its doors to the public in 1989 with an exhibition of batik artwork on silk by women from Utopia community in the NT. This year, the Gallery will be celebrating its 30th birthday (a little late, due to COVID-19) with artwork by some of the same women from the same region again gracing the walls.‘Atnwengerrp – Our Apmere, Our Place’ present works by four generations of artists from the small community of Atnwengerrp, 270kms North-East of Alice Springs within the region of Utopia.The collection of monochromatic artwork is inspired by Country and showcases the entire community of approximately 100 people. It features work from artists such as 97-year-old Emily Pwerle, who featured in that opening exhibition at Tandanya, and her sisters. I was born in 1961 to hippie parents and I was raised in the drug culture. When I was 11 my mom got sober and I continued on my drug path until I became a heroin addict. In 1992 I left my first husband to come to Redding from Sacramento where I was raised. My parents lived here and had a lot of sobriety and God decided it was time for me to get sober. April 6 I will celebrate 28 years of sobriety which is an extreme miracle for me. I met my second husband the day I came to Redding and a year later we were married and had children. Both my children were born in Redding and we owned in Anderson and I had a very fairytale life. As fairytales go discontent came and we ended up selling our house in 2003 that we owned in Anderson and moved to a town called Lawrenceburg Tennessee which was in the middle bottom of the state. I was very naïve and I thought people were the same everywhere yet they did not like me there. I tend to be adventurous and I guess I’ll do anything just about so I opened a cheerleading school in Lawrenceburg and I had that for about a year. A couple years past and I opened a bookstore in Tennessee. I owned that for a couple of years and that was probably my favorite profession I’ve ever had. Tennessee was beautiful yet not a good fit for this California girl so we came back in 2013 after a lot of tragedy in Tennessee. When I got back it was just in time to start taking care of my father who had dementia. It was while I was taking care of my father that I learned of women of vision. Taking care of my father has really changed me and I kind of went into my shell however I’ve always held onto women of vision in some form even if it was just to keep up on the updates online. After my father died it took a Few months for me to figure out what my next plan was. I am also a local realtor so I decided I would open a used bookstore and reignite my real estate business. I opened my book store On February 7. I am located at 836 Butte St., Redding, CA right across the parking lot from the Thai café. I specialize in love and I’ve got a lot of books as well always have a pot of coffee on. My goal is to specialize in advanced reading for the children. I’m starting small on a shoestring and I’m going to just continue to grow. My husband is a truck driver and an avid runner he’s currently training for 100 mile trail run in South Dakota for August. My daughter runs also and I do a little walking when I can force myself. I would say My biggest struggle currently is that I feel old and I’m searching for the youth. Today, I wanted to reinforce the importance of building and taking advantage of natural breaks; ebbs and flows of your business, so you can apply your maximum amount of effort to your goals and work.I am a huge believer in working hard—I work extremely hard and understand the importance of not sacrificing your potential over the immediate gratification of soft scheduling. But, I also know first-hand how vital it is to allow yourself a moment to get some mental head-space and clarity.In 2018, my roughest string of days was 12 consecutive 20-hour days. And that’s not 20-hour days with lunches and time to relax; that’s 20-hour days where I was on emails, phone calls, deals, in houses and meetings within minutes of getting out of bed. Listening to conference calls while in the shower, and hitting the “mute” button between bites of a rushed lunch while I was driving to my next appointment.I got tired, and really really unhappy with my current state of living. Shortening my days to 14-16 hours, Mon-Sat and 12 hours on Sunday, and allowing myself 1 completely free day every 45-50 days is a perfect balance of hard-work and free time for me.
