Our guest this week is Nan Jack, a New York Cares Team Leader who has served the five boroughs for the last ten years. She is a genuinely inspiring and selfless member of our community, who has led projects with Visions and the Astoria Park Alliance.
On this episode, we're proud to feature another exceptional volunteer Team Leader, Patrick McGuire. Patrick is a Queens native who has completed over 4,000 projects and 8,400 hours of volunteer service over the past fifteen years. Patrick is a Coat Drive MVP, serving as an Ambassador promoting our program to commuters at Penn Station and leading coat collections, sorting, and distributions: but the most rewarding of all is Christmas mornings distributing coats at the Rescue Mission Center on Canal Street. In Patrick's own words, "What I really love about working with New York Cares is making an impact on the lives of the people we serve."

On this episode, we're highlighting an exceptional team leader and volunteer, Kai Tham. Kai grew up in Little Italy, and started volunteering in 2017. He became a High Riser in 2019, a volunteer who has completed +1,000 hours of volunteer service. As a team leader, Kai serves as an example of punctuality, problem solving, and dependability. Many volunteers have returned to his projects as a result of his leadership and vision. He advises anyone interesting in volunteering to, "Pick a project and get started. It's contagious."

This is the first year that the SCCD has offered a local high school student the opportunity to volunteer during school hours and learn valuable knowledge and skills related to conservation. Join us as we talk to Jeremiah and find out why he wanted to volunteer for the Susquehanna County Conservation District.
ROBOTICON is held in USF's Yuengling center, and there the engineering department always puts on an Expo that showcases the different engineering clubs and organizations at USF. Of course, this expo could not happen without all the hard work of the volunteers and the team is joined by Sampad the volunteer coordinator for USF's Expo.Sampad Acharya or Sam is a second-year electrical science Ph.D. student at USF. In 2017 he came from India to continue his education in electrical and commuter science. He is at Roboticon managing 54 people from 20 different organization and research groups. His job is to make sure all the exhibitors have the supplies that they need and he is in charge of making sure that they are feed. The only issue Sam has faced was missing the volunteer lunch because he had been working. Sampad is a hard worker and is passionate about learning.He goes into detail about how much he does around campus and in different organization. He is a Teacher's Assistant for a lab in the fundamentals of logic and design and conducts research involved in computer sciences. Moreover, he is the IEEE workshop chair at USF and through this program, he has met and taught other FIRST students. Sam explains how he got involved in IEEE by going to a quality free food banquet at an IEEE event, where he met lots of inspiring people and he decided that he wanted to get involved.When Sam talked about his experience in the electrical engineering field he has already had experience working in India as a researcher for two colleges and at different engineering companies. With some encouragement from my friend Brian, we decided that we wanted to share these leadership principles with the world of emergency management. Our goal is to bring you quality content every week that impacts emergency management, first responders, and disaster volunteers. January 24, 2017 Debbie James VOA Brunetti Lofts On behalf of the Volunteers of America Denver Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, we would like to recognize Debbie James for this quarter’s Volunteer Spotlight. The Community Room at the Brunetti Lofts, a provider of transitional housing, comes alive the 2nd Tuesday of every month with an artistic flair. For the children 9 years of age and older the evening “art club is a special time for unlocking the elements of art theory and imagination under the direction of Debbie James. Each student joining the club reaps from Debbie’s generosity and is issued an art kit packed with goods she has purchased, such as markers, crayons, glue, pencils, paint brushes and more. Art journals are also made available. With these items in hand, inspiration between meetings is fostered for many different projects. When asked how art benefits children and teens, Debbie’s finds that building confidence and opening the mind to new possibilities and perspectives rank high. She is patient and kind-always willing to go the extra mile for her students. Because of Debbie’s kindness and dedication, the lives of the youth who call Brunetti Lofts home have been enriched.
