It's Easter time and we are all rushing to the stores to buy over packaged Easter eggs. While we love the taste of chocolate it's a sad fact that every sale further supports forced labour and environmental destruction.I have spoken about this before and received a cease and desist letter from a chocolate company, even though everything I said was factually correct. This podcast focuses on sustainability and for this episode we are looking at an aspect of sustainability we don't always discuss. People. We'll be discussing why a lot of chocolate companies suck and who you should buy from instead. In this episode I share:The surprising place that 70% of the worlds cocoa beans come fromHow much profit the growers and farmers of cocoa take home compared to the companies that on sell itThe average yearly income of fair trade farmers and how it has increasedHow 80% of deforestation has occurred because of cocoa in some regionsHow fair trade is involved in fixing the social issues from chocolate purchasesThe flaws in the fair trade processWhat Direct trade is and it can also helpThe pros and cons of direct tradeThe social and environmental implications of palm oilHow a customer response to Cadbury has caused the company to make changes in the pastWhy switching from using palm oil is not the option to fix thingsWhat you can do as a consumer this easterTricks to look out for when it comes to certificationWhy you should skip easter eggs entirelyThe unbelievable amount easter eggs have increased by in priceMy recommendations for ethical chocolate for easter this yearWho I don't recommend you buy from this easterKey Quotes“Chocolate, it's creamy it's sweet it melts in your mouth. Autism-Friendly Home Organization Strategies for Overwhelmed Parents – World Autism Acceptance Month 2025Did you know that clutter can actually increase sensory overwhelm and anxiety for autistic children — even when they don't seem bothered by it? In this first episode of my special series for World Autism Acceptance Month, I'm exploring how our home environments can either support or stress out our kids — and how small changes can make a big difference.I'll share what I've learned through personal experience as a mum of a child with autism and PDA, and offer simple, practical ways to create a sensory-friendly, low-stress home that works for your child and your family — no perfection required. You'll learn:Why visual clutter can lead to sensory overload, stress, and meltdownsHow to identify which parts of your home might be dysregulating your childSimple ways to reduce visual and sensory input (without doing a full makeover)The importance of soft textures, calm colors, and clear labelingHow to declutter intentionally, while still respecting comfort items and sentimental thingsWhat it really means to organize your space for calm, regulation, and connectionThis episode is for you if:Your child gets overwhelmed by their environment or struggles to stay regulatedYou're craving more calm in your home but don't know where to startYou want to support your child's sensory needs without creating more stress for yourselfKey message: When we create a low-stimulation, clutter-free space that works for our kids' sensory needs, we also make life easier, calmer, and more manageable for ourselves too.Mentioned in this episode:

I can't wait for you to meet her.The voices that try to protect us are voices of fear, and so often they keep us from expanding and doing what we were meant to do. Action is how change happens.Often we feel like our actions have to be huge to match the bigness of our desires, but we have seen over and over and over again that the little things add up. By stacking up a series of Doable Changes, you will create that big change that you crave. Choose the one that really resonates with you this week and really make it part of your life. Here are Three Doable Changes from this conversation:SET THE INTENTION. Set an intention for what you want and see it done. Really see it done. Focus on being with it, being here. If you've been on the fence of stepping into yourself as an artist you'll want to hear the amazing things she says about how art can serve as a tribute to the past, a processing of the present and of forward visioning. And how as artists in this potent time in history  we get to ask ourselves what we want to put our energy behind and what vision we want to create for our future to invite others into their own creativity and healing. My favourite part comes towards the end when she shares the ritual she does whenever she goes to a new city that deepens her connection to creativity and presence instantaneously - and then connects it to how we can be in our creative lives. I loved it and cannot wait to try it out next time I go on a tripAutumn was one of those lucky individuals who was encouraged to nurture and follow the creativity in her from a very young age. This resulted in her being fairly unencumbered by distracting limiting beliefs that so many of us have to navigate when it comes to creativity.  She has a beautiful, generous soul and is passionate about sharing the wonder and power of creativity - helping people free themselves to infuse playfulness, curiosity and discovery into their own creative journeys through teaching engagements and retreats She's partnered with Alana Fairchild and created artwork on the Sacred Rebels oracle deck, has her own beautiful self published deck, and will once again be working with Alana on a new oracle deck in the coming year. (more information on that at the end of the show) Things we talk about in this episodeHer powerful advice for anyone experiencing fear about beginning to express creativity (hint: it's something you could go out and do today)Her mission through her artworkWhat is creative Draino and why is it so important? Her understanding of the creative process, how it works and what it is trying to do through usHow being willing to be surprised is a key in the magic of her artworkSurefire ways to stop epiphanies and creative insight and how not to do those thingsWhat intuition feels like for herIncorporating muscle testing in the creative process as a way to cultivate intuitionWhat she does when she bumps up into limiting beliefs (and it's not about silencing them!)Using limiting beliefs as a catalyst to not only do the thing, but do the thing and then someHow to approach our creativity in a way that helps it feel safe to come outOur tendency as women to dim our own light. Loving advice for the person who feels they don't even have the right to try - or may have been bullied by a loved one not to shine brighter than them. How artwork can be like a map for humanity as well as shape our reality - it is at the tip of the spear of cultural revolutionHer poetic and inspiring definition of what creativity (which might be the best definition of creativity I have ever heard) truly is that might just change how you look at every single momentResources discussed in this episodeLiz Gilbert (fear being a passenger in her car)Sacred Rebels DeckAlana FairchildGOOGLE HER DECKS AND LINKS to themABOUTAutumn Skye lives, breathes, and dreams art, and has done so since she was old enough to hold a pencil and reach for a piece of paper. Her childhood and early adult years were spent traveling the landscapes of both her wild Canadian backyard and distant international shores. Through her wanderlust she developed a deep reverence for the beauty of nature and the diversity of humanity, and continuously endeavors to translate this inspiration through her work.  As a self-taught artist she is forever a student of the intuitive, creative process. Autumn Skye perpetually explores and plays in many artistic mediums and modalities, from music to sculpture, cooking, event production, sewing, interior decorating, and jewelry making. However, her sustaining focus remains primarily in painting, and finds acrylic paints to offer the most freedom, luminosity, and versatility in her intuitive art-making. Her style gracefully weaves together refined realism, iconic imagery and symbolism, and subtle energetic geometries. She's inspired by the beauty of this incredible planet, the potency of these extraordinary times, the mysteries of the cosmos, the resiliency of the human spirit, and the intricate connections between all facets of life. Autumn Skye's meticulous and poignant paintings continue to gain expanding recognition, attracting audiences, collectors, and students from around the globe. She exhibits and teaches worldwide, and otherwise thrives and paints in the beautiful temperate-rainforest of coastal British Columbia, Canada. Considering herself immensely blessed to do what feeds her soul, she strives to support others through creative empowerment, the gift of beauty, and the perpetuation of inspiration.Autumn Skye website | facebook | instagramKate Shepherd: art | website | instagramMorning Moon Nature Jewelry | website |  instagramCreative Genius Podcast | website | instagramPlease share the show with a friend and if you are moved to make a financial contribution to the production of this podcast, THANK YOU here is the link for our Patreon

I'm taking a little breather over the new year, still in the background prepping some fun new episodes for you. So this week I'm bringing you not only a fan fave from a little earlier this year, but one of my own favorites. That's a write off. Isn't it? This one I step you through some of the nitty-gritty of business tax deductions, with a fun spin from our favourite Schitt's Creek character, David Rose. If you need some help demystifying business expenses and tax deductions (particularly in the Australian context), then you're in the right place. So, what exactly is this thing called a write-off? Well, friends, it's merely another name for a business expense or a tax deduction. Simply put, it's anything you purchase to cut down your profit or taxable income, giving you lower taxes. You could see it as a secret goodie bag for your business - but remember, it comes with some strings attached! The Australian Tax Office isn't playing around when it comes to write-offs. They've got three golden rules which I explain today:1. The purchase must be for your business, not personal use.2. If the purchase is for both business and personal use, you can only claim the business portion. 3. You need records as proof, and no, bank statements don't make the cut. You need tax invoices!Knowing the what and the how of deductions and business expenses is great, but it's pointless if you don't keep your tax invoices. Keeping those ATO-required records is your secret weapon. Without them, you could be shelling out more tax than you need to. Tax deduction eligibility will always depend on your unique business but to help you along, I'm sharing some common write-off categories that may be relevant to your situation. And while I know it's tempting to turn to Facebook groups or your best friend's aunt for advice, it's always best to get advice from a qualified professional to avoid any tax troubles. Enjoy this episode and I'll be back with you shortly with fresh content to get you on top of your bookkeeping matters.LINKSPrevious Episodes Mentioned:Do your (Tax) Invoices say the right thingsWhat happens when you don't keep accurate recordsConnect with Lisa Turner: Instagram:     @accountedforyouWebsite:         https://accountedforyou.com.au/

Are you a little confused about which items you can legally claim as a write off? This week, I'm uncovering some of the nitty-gritty of business tax deductions, with a fun spin from our favourite Schitt's Creek character, David Rose. Happy bookkeeping!LINKSPrevious Episodes Mentioned:Do your (Tax) Invoices say the right thingsWhat happens when you don't keep accurate recordsConnect with Lisa Turner: Instagram:     @accountedforyouWebsite:         https://accountedforyou.com.au/ Join us in the Accounted For You Numbers Club on Facebook here Join my Numbers List for small business news and fun, helpful tips here Download the New Biz Checklist here Download the FREE P&L Generator here Check out my blog here!

I LOVE my Hermes bracelet. My girlfriends gave it to me on my birthday and it symbolizes so much more than the beautiful piece of jewelry that it is. To mean it feels like friendship, connection, my old life in Florida,  good wine, boat rides, raising our kids, long phone calls, shopping trips to Sassy Boutique, tennis matches on clay courts, days at the beach, drinks at the tiki bar, great memories, laughter, and girlfriends who have stood by me through anything and everything and make me feel like coming home every single time I visit. In this episode I have the pleasure of speaking with  Dr. Aaron Ahuvia, professor at University of Michigan at Dearborn, who is also author of the book The Things We Love and all around world renowned expert on psychology of brand love. We start our convo talking about our connection to things, which was the original intention of the interview, but  we end with healing stories and discussion about the importance of compassion for ourselves. Of course. It always goes there, doesn't it? Some highlights we get into:What luxury brands really mean to us and what they symbolize to othersWhy only the bravest men will drive mini vansHow people fall in love with each other and how we present ourselves in the dating worldWhat are the similarities in the way we love people and the way we love thingsWhat the best brands invoke within usWhy loving the things you already own is the key to happiness What you really learn about yourself by realizing/noticing what things you loveHow to clear out the energy in items that an ex gave youOur ability to be fluid in our beliefs and in lifeA better way to view mistakes than self criticismI thought this conversation was going to be about love and the difference between loving people and things. Hello everyone! Welcome to The ITfactor Show! When was the last time you really thought about what's really important to you and what would really make you happy? Today, I have an amazing guest who has completed more fun, exciting, and challenging life goals than any of us can count. Sebastian Terry is a changemaker, best-selling author, thought leader, and founder of 100Things. Shocked by the death of a close friend in his mid-twenties, Sebastian experienced a moment in his life where he asked himself a simple question; ‘Am I happy?'. The answer was NO, and so, he created a list of 100Things that he hoped would bring him closer to a sense of happiness, if not purpose, in life. What started as a journey for one man has now developed into a journey about many. Following his heart and armed with nothing but a list, Sebastian's incredible story has grown from an entertaining tale of adventure into a global philanthropic movement that engages a growing tribe of hundreds of thousands to not just set meaningful goals, but pull the trigger and achieve them - all whilst helping others do the same. Turned into a best selling book, an ESPN documentary, and most recently a US-based reality TV show, where Sebastian travels the world helping complete strangers achieve their specific dreams, 100 Things inspires people and organizations to gain perspective, think big and be the best they can be on every level so that others can follow suit. Listen in as Sebastian invites and inspire you to start living, doing, and achieving, your own 100 Things! She's Not Doing So Well - Gay Perspective On Everyday Life

On this Episode Bobby & Jim Go to Wilton Manors Florida and get into good trouble for Jim's Bachelor weekend and Birthday. They end up at Cannonball Bash which is for Chubs and chasers . They also got into some trouble at the eagle party . Will they make it out alive? While there, they ended up at Cannonball Bash, a weekend party for Chubs and chasers in the gay community. They also took off their clothes at The Eagle, a bar known for its dark rooms and endless nights. Bobby ended up being a total Sub (Submissive) for a night and even bought a shirt that said "Sub in training" off the back of someone at Cannonball bash. Lets talk about that. First, Lets define some thingsWhat is a Chub? A chub is a type of gay man who is overweight or obese. Chubs often have big bellies, big thighs, and large arms and shoulders. They also tend to have narrow hips and wide feet. What is a Bear? The bear concept can function as an identity or an affiliation, and there is ongoing debate in bear communities about what constitutes a bear. Some bears place importance on presenting a clear masculine image and may disdain or shun men who exhibit effeminacy, while others consider acceptance and inclusiveness of all behavioural types to be an important value of the community. Some people believe that the term "bear" originated within gay male culture to describe a larger and often hairier man who projects an image of rugged masculinity. Others claim that the term has broader application, referring to anyone who identifies with its gritty, no-nonsense vibe. In any case, it's safe to say that this influential subculture has left its mark on popular culture – and not just through drag queens lip-synching Sandy Duncan! What is a Chaser? A gay chub chaser is someone who, for recreational or sexual purposes, pursues an obese person. This can include anything from intentionally pursuing an obese person in public to sending them unsolicited images or messages. Because this type of behavior is considered predatory and illegal, it's important to be aware of the dangers involved and take precautions if you find yourself being targeted by a gay chub Chaser. What is Cannonball Bash? Largest chub/chaser event weekend in the United States! The Cannonball Events Team has been hard at work making arrangements for a fun-filled extended event weekend, filled with fun and surprises for everyone.Between the sights and sounds of Miami, the beautiful beaches of Fort Lauderdale and a host of other attractions, it will be a weekend that no one will soon forget.Lets just say it was an eventful weekend. Then like a freaking truck, it hits you!The honeymoon wears off, but you also haven't reached your goalsThis is 100% going to happen to ALL of us.For hair pros, this is where you realize your technical talent isn't going to carry you any further because technical hair skills and biz skills are two completely unrelated thingsWhat the messy middle may look like:Things begin to pile upYou start questioning everythingEverything feels uncertainThings feel unpredictableRevenue plateaus or dropsYou start to freak out internallyYou start micromanaging if you have a team and if you're independent it might manifest as passive-aggressive posts toward clientsYou're focused on what others are up to - and it's tempting to shift gears and do something that feels safe You may experience feelings of wanting to give up, stuck like you're spinning your wheelsYou begin looking at money; differently, & suddenly not as freely spending as you were when things felt good - this may happen even if the money is still thereYou feel like things are going up and down - you're not just riding the high of opening anymore How do we deal with this?Recognize where you are in your journey and appreciate how far you've come - I know it isn't easy when you're stressed out, but please try.Recognize that you ARE capable of making it through the stormRecognize that you're NOT aloneRecognize that you're going to need both sides of your brain - the logical side AND the creative sideIf you haven't, you need to start learning about businessEvaluate and consider what you could improveIs there anything that you can pass off so that you can focus on higher-level tasks? What changes will bring in some money - it doesn't have to be crazy but little wins compoundWhat changes will ease your mindWhat changes might keep your team or clients engaged - it's quite possible that things aren't as bad as they seem to youTake SMALL or even TINY steps - this isn't time for an overhaul, you may have a ton of changes to make, and that's ok - do not try to fix everything at once Be good at pivoting - when you're small, you can take advantage of how nimble you actually can be. this is freeing when you think about it because you can make little changes and test things without shaking things up too much or upsetting too many peopleIf you need to chat please reach out! Global Medical Device Podcast powered by Greenlight Guru

There's a transition underway for devices that are currently under an EUA. People may not realize it, but this EUA, which was put into place under COVID, covers more than just COVID-related devices; many products are affected. Kyle Rose joins the podcast today to talk more about it. Kyle is the President of RookQS and works as a contract Quality Manager for multiple medical device companies, overseeing overall quality strategy and ensuring compliance through documentation and auditing services. Listen to the episode to hear what Kyle has to say about the EUA transition deadline, the potential uses for the EUA going forward, and what companies should focus on if they only started selling medical devices during the EUA.Some of the highlights of today's show include:Whether there's an EUA transition deadline yetWhat EUA companies need to be doing right now on the quality side of thingsWhat the EUA transition will look likeHow adverse events need to be documentedThe potential for the EUA as the norm in certain situationsWhat to focus on for companies that started with a non-med device then got into the EUAWhat happens if you go past the 180 daysMemorable quotes from Kyle Rose:"This is going to end, and companies have to figure out what to do to go back to their traditional regulatory path for their device or their expansion of labeling and use to maintain compliance.""You need to start working on this before phase three.""From phase one to phase two is 90, from phase two to phase three is 90, and then phase three it says 180 days after implementation.""If you're going to build your quality system, I would definitely say you can apply with both FDA and ISO."“If you have submitted, and it goes past the 180 deadline into phase three, you're still able to sell as long as you're under review."LinksRook Quality SystemKyle RoseFDA Guidance DocumentFDA Webinar SlidesEtienne Nichols LinkedInetienne.nichols@greenlight.guruMedTech NationGG AcademyGreenlight Guru

This episode features guest David Pereira, Head of Product at Virtual Identity. Episode 24 is the last episode of Season 1 of the Creative Genius Podcast! It has been an incredible year and I am so glad you are here. We're taking a bit of a break over August so that you can go back and listen to your favourites, while we work on some amazing things to kick off season two with a bang in September. Our guest today is Autumn Skye - an incredible artist with a massive online following, and when you see her work you'll immediately get it. Her pieces are equal parts painstakingly detailed and evocatively magical. This is a deep and deeply nourishing and expansive feeling episode. We cover a lot of ground from the practical to the esoteric. I came away from this conversation feeling more spacious and filled with a sense of possibility and wonder that I have in a long time. How artwork can be like a map for humanity as well as shape our reality - it is at the tip of the spear of cultural revolutionHer poetic and inspiring definition of what creativity (which might be the best definition of creativity I have ever heard) truly is that might just change how you look at every single momentResources discussed in this episode:Liz Gilbert (fear being a passenger in her car)Sacred Rebels DeckAlana FairchildGOOGLE HER DECKS AND LINKS to themABOUTAutumn Skye lives, breathes, and dreams art, and has done so since she was old enough to hold a pencil and reach for a piece of paper.

In today's episode I want to share a recording of a Live session I did with The Caregiver Cup Community.   I shared an article I found in caregiver.com by Mary Damiano As you listen to this episode today, I want you to think about two thingsWhat can you do to put yourself first - carving out just 30 minutes each day can make huge changes in your energy.  What motivates you?  Not everyone is a runner.  Not everyone is a morning morning.  You need to find what works best for you to recharge.  So be open and listen to all the tips but then personalize it to your values and your current situation right now.  Recharging your batteries is one of the most important ways to help your loved one.R: Rest. One of the most important things a caregiver can do for the person they're caring for is to take care of themselves. A caregiver who wears himself out, and keeps going 24/7 risks burnout.E: Eat right. Take a cue from your loved one's diet and take the opportunity to eat healthy things as well. Maybe you don't have to adhere to such a strict diet, but eating right certainly never hurts.C: Communicate your needs to others. Don't expect anyone, even other family members to read your mind about what you need or what your loved one needs. Let people around you know the things that need to be done and that occasionally; even you could use a hand.H: Hydrate. Drink lots of water. Water hydrates your body and keeps you energized. Take vitamins if you don't get enough nutrition from your food.A: Accept help. This can be the hardest thing for the caregiver to do, but it's one of the best things a caregiver can do for their loved one and for themselves. When people offer to help, often caregivers turn them down because they don't want to burden them or because they can't think of something off the top of their heads. Get over the notion that the only way to get it done is to do it yourself. When you have a few moments, really think about the kinds of things that will make life a little easier. Then when people ask how they can help, you'll be ready. When you tell someone something very specific, they're more comfortable doing it, and you'll get the help you need. Helping makes people feel good about themselves. Don't deprive anyone of that joy.R: Respite. Caregivers should make a point of getting away sometimes, to take a mini-respite for themselves. A movie, lunch somewhere, window shopping or just walking along the beach or through a park can be enough to get some distance, and come back with a fresh perspective on things.G: Get enough sleep. This is often the hardest one to manage because you're on someone else's schedule. But sleep is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. Eight hours are ideal, but the concept of getting eight uninterrupted hours of sleep might be impossible. Try breaking sleep up. Get what you can in one shot, but take a nap during the day. A short nap can be very refreshing and just the thing you need to get you through the day.E: Exercise. Anything will help. Walk around the block a few times a day when you have a few spare minutes. Try yoga, something that will exercise your muscles, yet relax your mind. Meditate. Spend a few minutes alone and quiet.Make RECHARGE a 'Must' and Not a 'Should'Our values motivate us and tend to influence our attitudes and behavior. If self-care isn't valued as much as caregiving, work and family, then self-care inevitably falls by the wayside. So what can you do to put yourself first.    I encourage you to carve out 30 minutes each day.

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk. You'll recognize yourself in these true-life stories of adversity, challenge, fear, discovery, adventure, expression, and more from women who are walking their lives while their lives walk them and the lasting difference their journeys have made. I'm your host, Diane Wyzga.  Welcome back to Part 2 of the podcast interview with my guest, Leanne Gordon, founder of the consulting practice Changing Futures, the author of the newly published book, Change Seekers - making a difference, and co-author of The Book of Java: Together We Write, who joined us from Perth, Australia. I invited Leanne to talk with us about the unexpected changes Life created for her as she changes futures for others, claiming her Page as a writer and author, challenging herself on a long distance trek, and walking her life with guidelines instead of rules. We were talking about Leanne's consulting practice, Changing Futures when I asked Leanne: “What's important to know about uncertainty and change in the workplace?” Let's hear what she has to say about this, writing and publishing a book, and so much more on all things Change.      Minutes     37:2200:00 to 2:12      Intro    2:12 to 8:28      Consulting Practice: Changing FuturesI understand that you help people and businesses navigate uncertainty, embed change into the way they work and live so that there are meaningful work cultures that can be created, work and workplaces can be made more human. What's important to know about uncertainty and change being embedded in the workplace?COVID has been a shock to the world in terms of work and its place in our livesThis is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for those who have lived and breathed the concept of workPre-COVID Leanne has always argued that uncertainty and change is part and parcel of who we areLeanne specializes in change as a result of her own entire working life (and personal life)Nothing is certain; life is not in our controlThe last 18 months has amplified the basic concept that the world and the world of work is uncertainLeanne would argue that there are some levels of certainty (the sun is expected to rise) but overall not in the way we can control it or know itCOVID has handed us layers of changePeople have told themselves this fairy tale and now are finding out that the story (we can control things) is wrongPeople really do need assistance to navigate their way through next and not feel the fearAny step we take to the new is feeling fearful, uncomfortableLeanne is abnormal in feeling comfortable with change spaceYou can control what you do, your actions, your questions; but not others or what might happen; otherwise, the anxiety and worry is wastedWait, be patient, see the lay of the land, and then decide how to move and changeIt's an interesting time to the extent of how we will do even the everyday thingsWhat we've taken for granted cannot be anymore - Leanne  recognizing the impact of all of that on people8:28 to 12:08     Meaningful Workplace CultureQ: Given all that you've mentioned, the fear uncertainty, COVID, because we have a chance to begin anew, what makes a meaningful workplace culture? And how does one create it?Creating it is creating it togetherMyth: some one person or senior team in an organization has the big idea and puts that out and people will follow suit is falseThe reality is that in all workplaces, over all time people have their own thoughts, their own ideas, so it must be created togetherThe culture the leaders are creating versus the culture they actually have in the organizationThe culture (what we do) is there already in our actions every dayThe way to create something different is to come together, collaborateWhat is meaningful? Meaningful is different for different peopleFundamentally we need to be working for a purposeWe need to be working for something that means something to us, that is allowing us to achieve, have a sense of achievement, being part of something, connectedness, collectiveOrganizations with success will see collaboration, flow, energy, excitement, satisfaction, and vision which make for meaning in our lives and in the workspaceThis is meaning in the workplaceOtherwise, people find meaning in other parts of their lives12:08 to 16:13     Change Seekers - making a differenceQ: So it's no accident that you recently published a book called Change Seekers - Making a Difference. If we were to look back on this conversation there is almost a yellow brick road leading through our conversation to this book. Would you tell us about what gave rise to the idea of a book like this? And what was it like to write it?For Leanne to let go of the idea that was THE BOOK and flipped to the idea that this would be A Book or the First BookNo longer necessary to take every single idea she ever had and put it in one placeThis doesn't need to be A Book for the AgesAll Leanne's expectations evaporated and began to write a bookLeanne has lots of ideas and many years and many books to be writtenLet's write the first one, see what's involved, and put it out into the worldWhether this first go is brilliant or not isn't the point; it is so exciting to have a published bookWriting the book was great to do it in communityA key to discover the joy of writing with others on similar missionLeanne's goal was to publish on time and it got done! Not the book Leanne envisioned as “the real book” but is a collection of her thoughts she hopes will resonate with others who are making things happen16:13 to 23:45     Change Seekers AttributesQ: You say, “If you are the type of person who has ideas for change, can see things differently and where improvements can be made, you are a change seeker. This book is for you.” Do change seekers have certain attributes? And, if so, what might those be?A change seeker does have certain attributesLeanne's book is a “find the others” bookChange seeker is much like Leanne was (prior to becoming a solopreneur) working within organization, knowing things could be better and wanting to do something to make changeIt's often a lonely place; feel like being the only one or one of a fewIf you are the one who says, What about this? Or what if we were to do that?  Have we thought about XLeanne's book speaks to those folks: question askers, why, when, how, always seeing things differently, curious, pulling ideas and thoughts from different directions, disciplines, synthesizing all of it to be betterChange Seekers seeing what is possible and what is differentIf you see yourself in these pages: Don't give up - there is hope - there is many a way of persisting, asking questions, making change in the workplaceA lasting legacy of change takes patience, calmness, persistence, a quiet confidence that you will get thereSome of Leanne's biggest satisfactions are being surprised that the “unchangeable” person changed! The acceptance of a different way, a better wayLeanne wrote her book to help give people confidenceQ: This book isn't a how-to or a self-help book. It is a find-yourself and find-the-others book. Which takes us right back to you sense of community which is where we were talking earlier on with the Akimbo and altMBA to Book of Java experiences. What do you hope will come about because your words are out in the world?  Leanne would like to know that her book helped one person to have the confidence to back themselves, to give themselves permission to do something they might have not done or held back  This book is a collection of little words that will stick forever; that would be happyWhat would make her ecstatic: the book becomes an opportunity to organize as change-seekers, find the others, provide community in the organizational lonely places, gain strength23:45 to 28:45     CAPE TO CAPE TREK: Zero2HeroQ: On this theme of “stronger together” you recently took part in a fund raiser to bring awareness to and support suicide prevention, mental health and well-being called The Cape to Cape Trek - Zero2Hero. As a walker I love the experience of walking, what was the experience of walking 135 KM (almost 85 miles) for you?Leanne is proponent of step out of comfort zone, take the first step, do something different no matter how small (walk a different pathway, wear a different color, etc. )Signing up for this Trek was a big jump out of comfort zoneLeanne had been unwell in 2018 and lost confidence in own physical capabilities; was concerned could not do the distance  Leanne knew she would enjoy the purposeful-ness and community and for a causeSigned up and then Life got in the way of trainingLeanne was concerned about being able to finish because she didn't train as she had plannedThen away we went! The fear dissipated as soon as Leanne began walking; she had more strength, capability and resilience than she had given herself credit forThe story Leanne told herself was no trueFully enjoyed the experience of being away, out in nature the entire day daylight to darkClimbed hills and sandy dunes and moreDay-by-day proving to yourself that when you want to do something you can and you shouldPhysical challenge, mental challenge - you can do it - because you can and you should28:45 to 32:39     Living  Life With Guidelines  Instead of RulesQ: As we sit here today how has walking Life with guidelines vs rules shifted your world view? For Leanne definitely connects the dots looking back on themLeanne thought she was more rule-based than actually isCarried her Inner Rebel and Inner Questioner along the way Questioned: is it a hard and fast rule? Is it somebody else's story, made up rule?In a very compliant and traditional way has followed rules but more of a confident question-er, curious, what if, how comeConstant questioning is the way Leanne roles  Leanne having children saw her qualities in them and thought Ah ha! That's what other people see in meLeanne decided that it's okay to take a left turn here and it will work outYou don't 'feel lost' is the keyI think I'm headed North and since I want to go North I'll be okay with the overviewWe'll get thereHost: There's a great deal of confidence in your statement: Somehow or other we will get there whether we're being flown or flying ourselves  32:39 to 37:22     LegacyQ: One last question of you: What would you like to see happen in the world as a result of your work as we sit here today? We have work spaces that respect and treat everybody as humans and in Leanne's lifetime  Would like to know many people are change-seekers to whom Leanne can pass along her batons, knowing her work will continueIf we come back to this: work is a human endeavor and we are all about humans doing that work it will be a better place for all of usAll about the humans, about the humans, no ‘bots. Before I say thank you to you, Leanne I want to mention that all social media links and connections to Leanne Gordon and her work Changing Futures, as well as her book, Change Seekers - making a difference, and a link to Zero2Hero if you're interested in donating to the 2022 trek will be posted in the Episode Notes. Rhum Barbancourt is a square peg to the round holes of rum categorization. It's made with fresh sugarcane juice in a nation with historic ties to France, but it is not rhum agricole. It hails from Haiti, but there is a world of difference between it and clairin. Its production has aspects associated with all three of the colonial-based French, Spanish, and British categories. To get to the core of what makes Rhum Barbancourt unique, we sat down with the company's new CEO—and fifth generation member of the family that started the brand—Delphine Gardère. We discussed:The aspects of production that make Barbancourt distinct from other rumsBarbancourt's relationship with the 3,000+ farmers that supply the distillery's sugarcaneDelphine's vision for the company, and the relationship between maintaining tradition vs. trying new thingsWhat it means as a company to be an ambassador for HaitiThe importance of elevating women in the spirits industry and transitioning from a male-dominated environmentBarbancourt's approach to aging with a combination of vats and different cask typesBringing pot still production back to the distillery (and what kinds of releases it might yield)And much more!Links mentioned in this episode:Netherlands Rum Society Facebook GroupNetherlands Rum Society InstagramMaggie Campbell's interview with Delphine Gardère for the Daily Beast Watch Rhum Barbancourt's livestream with WIRSPA and Zavvy.coRhum Barbancourt Website

11 years ago, when Sebastian Terry was 24 years old, he lost a friend. The sudden death shook Sebastian to his core, to the point where he re-evaluated his own life and asked himself, “Am I happy?”  His answer was, “No.” Sebastian started looking for more happiness in his life. He wrote down a list of 100 things that he thought might make him happy — 100 things that he wanted to accomplish and that he thought might bring him a sense of joy — and as he started crossing things off his list, other people were inspired by his example. They started their own lists, which turned into Sebastian writing a book, speaking at events, and starting a movement. We’re all so wrapped up in everything going on in the world that not many of us have stopped to ask ourselves these questions lately: Am I happy? Am I living a purposeful life? What’s on my list? How can I help others? The closer we can get to answering those questions, the brighter the future is going to be for all of us. When you challenge yourself by setting yourself goals outside of your comfort zone, what can happen? And what if those goals are simply the 100 things you want to do before you die?Author of the book and TV host on ESPN’s series ‘100 Things: What’s On Your List?’, Seb Terry shared a beautiful conversation about how he followed his passions and now has found real purpose in his life helping people all over the world. The Moment He Decided His 100 Things To Do Before You DieAfter graduating, Seb felt lost with no purpose. He decided to travel, and while backpacking in Canada, he got tragic news that his good friend Chris had passed away at the age of just 24. Reflecting on Chris’ life and what a life well-lived and happiness could be like, Seb created a list of 100 things to do before he died, and went on a quest to complete them around the world. This unfolded into a journey of publishing a book on his experiences, landing a TV series with ESPN, moving to LA from Sydney, and finding his true values, passion and purpose finally in life. It seems when you challenge yourself and focus your time and goal setting to do what interests you, magic can indeed happen!Challenge yourself to find your true callingSeb has now created an online peer-to-peer platform for giving called Kindsum, which is facilitating meaningful connections with people around the world and creating opportunities to help and volunteer to help people from simple to deeply life changing ways. Every time I say YES, when my answer is NO, I pay for it.”I’ve learned, you can pay for it financially, mentally, physically or all of the above. Saying yes when you should have said no, can certainly be a teaching moment. I know the first client I ever had, was certainly a teaching moment. The thing with business, you’ll constantly be faced with the decisions to say yes or no. It doesn’t end once you’ve unlocked a new level in business. The decision making never really ends.Especially now more than ever, understanding what to say no to so you can say hell yes to the projects that will really make you soar is so important. But first, let’s quickly talk about why you should learn how to say no.During this short episode I share:The importance of saying no to the right thingsWhat to consider when saying NoWhat to consider when you decide to negotiateAdvice on how to terminate an existing project (because it can happen in business!)

This week we chat with Daniel Zen, former Google engineer, technology instructor at zen.digital, NYC Regional Coordinator for Burning Man, coordinator for the Angular.js NYC Meetup, and general high-tech wizard. https://zen.digital/https://twitter.com/danielzenhttps://medium.com/@danielzenhttps://github.com/danielzen Some of the topics we discuss:• The curses – and blessings! – of runaway technological surveillance (and sousveillance, and coveillance…).• How adolescence and sexuality have changed for children growing up with the Internet.• The future of festival culture and how it is a testbed for disaster relief technologies.• The danger of putting your medical devices online (the hackability of the Internet of Things)• What happens when we RECORD EVERYTHING• The isolating effects of Virtual Reality and how to create interactive spaces that allow us to share in the experience.• The collapse of VR, AR, and MR into just: “reality”• How TV, digital photography, and streaming video has changed the way we think about sharing our lives, perceptions, and emotions.• Adapting to an age of accelerating change by staying curious and loving learning• Concerns about technology’s role in widening the gap between the poor and the ultra rich.• The internet as a kind of “planetary cathedral” and re-envisioning our lives in light of a project that extends beyond the horizons of our individual lives. Daniel Quotes:“The festival world has changed, where now everybody has a cell phone and the ability to take pictures. And very much I believe, and the community I’m in believes, in consent when it comes to photography. Especially when people are in maybe a greater state of undress. Now we’re in a world where surveillance is much more prevalent…”“I’m a believe in bringing off-line technology to Burning Man. I don’t like the concept of being online at Burning Man, but I do like the concept of technology at Burning Man. I’d love to see an INTRANET at Burning Man…without any connection to the outside world. And such a system, if it were implemented well, could be of use in disaster situations.”“Unfortunately, we are a society that enjoys convenience – and we are all too ready to give up our privacy for that convenience.”“I’m not one of these guys that’s like, ‘Hey, the Singularity’s happening, Oh My God!’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, OF COURSE it’s happening, duh, I mean can’t you see that?’ It’s so blatantly obvious to me I don’t feel the need to argue it. It’s just part of my reality. I accept it as much as the air I breathe.”“The haves and the have-nots is a really scary situation. Michael Quotes:“If the sea level rises, we want the city to rise with it.”“The way that people play poker when you can see someone else’s hand is fundamentally different. There’s no body shame in a nudist colony. We’re going to have a much healthier relationship to living in public, in a few decades, than we do today.”“I don’t really know which version of the future is better: one in which we can keep our secrets, or one in which we can’t.”“We’ve been living in an audio-only virtual reality since the invention of the Walkman.”“I hold out hope that it’s the desire to keep everyone in the game that ends up that ends up winning this for the human species.”“Couldn’t we maybe upgrade it from Burning Man to Composting Man?” Mentions:• Kevin Kelly, author of The Inevitable• David Brin, author of The Transparent Society• Dadara (aka Daniel Rozenberg of Solipsmission)• Google Latitude• Burning Man• Gregory Bateson• William Gibson (“Cyberspace is where you are when you’re on the phone.”)• Lynn De Rothschild’s proposed Universal Income See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
